Kinda crazy how Frusciante just straight up said "I couldn't come up with anything, so I ripped off The Cure" lmao
Music history is one huge recycle bin, awesome to hear such big stars tell it like it is
Chord progressions
If you understand music theory the two songs aren't very similar beyond the first few notes It was just inspiration
a lot of artists come up with new songs by learning old ones
Look up a bands top 10-20 biggest influences and you will find pieces (or entire sections or even entire songs if the writer is unscrupulous or oblivious) of their music all over their stuff. Music is language. You dont invent a new language for every song. Its all the same alphabet and sentences. Context is everything
good artists copy, great ones steal
Chad: "I've never been on a snowboard in my life." 😂💀
Chad is my favorite Pepper.
Mine too. He was great in Step Brothers.
I laughed so hard
that's "Big Cat" to us he famously goes by the nickname "Big Cat"
Chad had that "I got a rock" energy in his voice when he mentioned the snowboard.
i remember being blown away by the video as a kid. glad it still looks awesome
If you have an android phone you can get to play it.
@@botJK2925what it’s called?
@@botJK2925NO WAAAAAAY THATS AWESOME
My little daughter loves it. And the song.
@@apl2606 i remember being very little and loving everything about this, i know that feeling and its awesome. Glad your daughter loves it too ❤
I always thought that the line "space may be the final frontier but it's made in an Hollywood's basement" was about the moon landing being fake lol
Same here
havent seen the vid, but..
so it wasn't about that ? 😮
@@kellenmoon3084no it wasnt about that it was about star trek
its a triple entendre. thats why the song is magic
Isn’t??
Wow i'm so glad I clicked on this video, what a treat. It was so nice having everything laid out nicely in front of me so I could enjoy it all super easily. Seriously, amazing job! I would love to see this type of video with any other of their songs! Or whole albums in fact maybe
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Would definitely like to do more RHCP content in the future :)
@@3minuteswithMarcplease do
@@3minuteswithMarc congrats, this is really good content!
@@3minuteswithMarcOther bands, too, please 🙏🏼
Good video essay. Has all the qualities I enjoy. No over-talking, showing the source (aka RHCP) instead of quoting and saying it yourself, no over-researched areas. Perfect!
Thanks a lot!
Mate, what the fuck is this? I started on this video, got blown away, watched other ones and came back to say you're a great visual storyteller, what the actual fuck. You bring to the screen everything you mention, it's such a pleasure to watch something where everything is served on a plate for you. My curious mind really thanks your effort, I know how hard is to edit a video like this. Subscribed, great job!!
Thank you so much!
Just get on your knees already 🙄
It's actual content. Not copied and pasted. Hard work.
This video changed my life. I was 6 years old - crazy about video games. This is how I got hooked to Red Hot Chili Peppers and subsequently rock music.
The real lesson here is: If you can’t figure out how to make a song work, you just need a John Frusciante lol
John frusciante #1🎸
Man if you'd produce more red hot chili peppers videos i would be very happy
Thanks!! I'm hoping to do more RHCP content in the future :)
Also other bands
Do You Guys Like One Hot Minute ? I Know Its Not Their Best Album But It’s Still Very Underrated And Gets To Much Hate
@@mikolajpaluch4927 yeah, I do enjoy it, but it probably in the top 3 albums from them i heard the least. But I do love the songs Aeroplane, Deep kick and the b side Stretch

I watched the RHCP live in 2000, it was so awesome!
Lucky you, must have been amazing
@@3minuteswithMarc You bet! Opening act: Foo Fighters 😉
I've listened to this song probably a thousand times, and everytime I read the lyrics it's evident how beautifully poetic Anthony's songwriting is.
growing up in germany, for a non-native speaker, his lyrics sounded like total gibberish to me. now, after 25 years of learning and speaking english, i am so amazed at the depth of his lyrics.
Ding dang ding ding ding dong ding dang ding dong

if you think anthony is poetic lol check out mike patton, wipes his ass any day on his own style or any other. anthony still cool tho but check it out
@@MollyGaia Can you not just appreciate someone's work? What's with the stupid comment?
8:22 dude Anthony is totally right on this. Good point if view
The life and lore of this band is fully an interest of mine in and of itself. The shit these guys have seen+experienced is insane. Each of them could write several books and have several biopics.
They are hollywood history, theyre an og homegrown L.A band that are still selling out tours.
I remember watching this video as a little kid and being so fascinated by it+the music. Its burnt into my brain. 😂
Acid for the Children is fantastic. I recommend the audiobook just because Flea narrates it himself.
@@derrickrussell8933 I'm definitely going to be listening to or reading it! Thank you !
“Scar Tissue” give it a read. definitely interesting
This is something of the highest quality RHCP story telling I’ve seen. Please keep going!
6:30 actually had my jaw dropped for a second 😭
HE GOT ME THERE TOO LMAO
Remember buying this album, watching fightclub and matrix in 99. What a year.
Fuck i varely remember im 30 lol
I legit as a kid thought there was no way video games would ever reach that point. At least not anytime soon. But I always thought it would be so cool if they did. It's funny looking back because it looks silly now compared to the state of modern video games lol.
Its one thing to love the song and video, but to find out how it was made behind the scenes, makes me love it even more. I think because i can appreciate the art and creativity that went into it. You also get the sense that it wouldve been really fun to actually be there while it was all happening. Im just happy i was around when it came out (I was 5) lol.
Great video man, perfect use of clips and your explanations and inputs are on point! glad you included info on the music video as well👍🏼
Very captivating video, glad you took the time to make it! well done!
This is such an informative and enjoyable video! Better than any documentary segment I’ve seen in a while. Gotta check out the Californication demo now - so good! Would’ve never heard it if not for this video. Keep up the great stuff!
man this is an amazing video. love how you dove into different topics like the early history of the band and video games and johns journey without straying from the main theme at all. very easy to follow too and full of great information. well done, gotta sub now!
Thanks!!
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC! first RHCP song ive listen too in the 2000's Poland.....childhood 😢❤
AK talking about the ocean is such a mood
you went crazy on this vid i hope your hard work pays off
I love this song. I’m amazed that the music was inspired by a Cure song. This was great.
Legit, never noticed it before but now that I hear it its a shock
Amazing video dude, it felt like 3 minutes. Thank you so much
glad that you showed a lot of clips from the actual band members instead of voiceover the whole vid
Best video recommendation I’ve ever clicked on. What an incredible deep dive. Thank you for what you do
Thank you so much!!
Great video. Brings back memories and nice to know the background too.
This was a great watch thanks for the hard work putting it together!
Thanks a lot!
Lol nice touch with the Donkey Kong Country soundfont! Loved the video. Well done.
Thanks a lot!
thanks for putting all of it together
Hope this vid gets blessed by the UA-cam algorithm.
Thanks, fingers crossed
I found it randomly!
I’m glad this was our timeline
TERRIFIC job, loved the editing and storytelling. Thank you so much.
Thank you!
Great work on this video mate! 👍
Amazing video man, I love RHCP and at the same time i'm learning english, so your video help to know more about the band and at the same time practice my english listening. Thank you, grettings from Barraquilla, Colombia.
Anthony kiedes flew on the Lolita express....
Let that sink in
Amazing video. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you!!
"i never snowboarded in my life" the way he says it is gold
A música deles entrou dentro das minhas células quando eu era adolescente e agora fazem parte do meu corpo
I love this. When I was still a singer in a band, we made songs exactly like 2:00. It is so nostalgic to think about that.
Awesome video my dude, this one of the best detailed analysis I ever saw.
Thanks so much!
John Frusciante is the guitarist of our generation. He's a genius.
He really is. I don’t like rhcp at all, but John is amazing.
Such a great video. Pls more!
I loved this song as a kid and not really knowing the meaning behind the lyrics but now since i’m a little older i took a look back at the lyrics and it’s very deep and showing the real meaning behindbut
I love this album so much, definitely one of my favourites of all time
If it wasn't for Californication
I would have never known that Mr bungle exists.
Such a blessing.
this was an amazing video to watch, thanks man
Thank you so much
Great vid! So well made
Awesome video dude, well put together
Thanks!!
great job with the video!
Thank you!!
Super interesting! Love the band, the song and this video
Thank you!
That was a simply great video essay - thank you for that.
Thanks!!
This song is “a lesson in perseverance, if you think there’s something in there, you gotta just stay at it”. 20+ years and the audience are realising there’s something in there
Great video! I'd love to see more videos like this from that era
Thank you!
Awesome video bro, super super well done
Thank you!!
Very well done video!
Thank you!
You should make more music videos. You’re good at it.
Thanks a lot!!
Yeah I agree, I liked this a lot. Very good work
I love how real the creative process is on this one. No I dreamed about this song woke up wrote it and it was perfect, but yea we couldn't figure it out so we listened to the cure and played crazy taxi lmao
Just seeing those video game characters takes me back
Phenomenal video, thank you!
Thank you so much!
Such a good job, congratulations!
Amazing video! 👏
Great video mate, love it
Thank you!!
Terrific video, really enjoyed that!
Thank you!
What a great video! Loved and enjoyed every second of it! I wish there would exist such a video to every song from the Chili Peppers. Thumbs up!
Thanks a lot!!
the fact that Carnage visors inspired Californication is absolutely wild
Ive always kind of wrote off the RHCP but that original recording of californication gave me goosebumps!
"To the papers?" *John struggling not to laugh* haha
very well written video + presentation!
Thanks a lot!
so interesting, thanks !!
Merci !! 😉
Yay! Its from the Cure melody ❤ and I love the demo version with a touch of reggae❤️❤️
Dammm bro never thoght how hard was for this guys to make u know the whole song n video... Youre a good visual storytsller mate, loved this vid
Thank you!!
Great video man.
Thanks!!
I remember being a kid and every time the video would play on MTV I would use my ps1 joypad pretending to play it. So many good memories.
i loved that 1080 snowboard game so much when i was a little kid
I love these back story's. Ya think; I got the lyrics & the melody, we're almost done, but there's so much more & so many parts of the puzzle coming from so many people, in & out side the band. The song is the sauce. The players are the spices & the Chef gets his que's from from not only his tastes, but all the muses that touch him.
Omg, really really good video!
Thanks a lot!!
I've enjoyed watching and listening!
Love death stranding and the chilli peppers
awesome combination!
That CGI was so groundbreaking at that time
Awesome video!
Excellent video!
that was super cool thanks!
Thanks a lot!
We need a music video remaster!
I was there at the show in the very first clip of Flea and John facing each other playing the intro. It was their performance at Austin City Limits. What an incredible night, it was Flea’s birthday.
Marc this video is longer than 3 mins and i love it
oh yeah forgot about that 😂 Thanks!
Great quality vid. Subbed
Thank you!!
Best 3 Minutes of the Chili Papers in my life
Use to be able to play it on Accoustic Guitar when I first took it up. Great track, as is Scar Tissue from the same album.
To be honest, back then, as a teen, I listened to a lot of music not so much because I liked it, but because I felt I needed to be part of something to be cool or something like that. It was more about identity than about the actual music.
I wasn't even some fashion victim follower who listened to the popular stuff to be part of the in-crowd. I was a contrarian loner, but I listened to music that seemed to fit that image I had of myself.
The Californication album was one of the few exceptions. It was one of the very few I genuinely listened to for the music and on which I liked pretty much every song.
What a amazing video... 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I was playing Crazy Taxi back then and I immediately get the reference. They made really good job with the video (game)
You think you could do this for one of their deep cuts like My Lovely Man or something similar with a deep background. Absolute banger of a video bro
Thanks a lot!! Perhaps I'll do more RHCP songs in the future, but I'm planning on other bands as well. Love that song by the way
Che, este tipo de video estan BUENISIMOS, segui asi! Estan geniales
Thank you!!
Yes man. Great job on that.
Thanks!
Nice made video. ❤
