Why BMW Is No Longer The Leader In Luxury Sales
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 січ 2020
- BMW lost its crown as the top-selling luxury brand around the world to fellow German rival Mercedes-Benz. In 2012, the BMW brand led Mercedes-Benz in global annual sales, but Mercedes-Benz gained the top spot in 2016 and has held it since. Mercedes has also surpassed BMW in its home continent of Europe, a major market for both. BMW appointed a new CEO in August 2019 and has assured investors it is on its way to reinvigorating its brand, but progress could be a bit slow.

Why BMW Is No Longer The Ultimate Driving Machine
They need to stop innovating their grills and focus on the rest of the car.
@Donald Trump 😂😂 your right, grills are the most important thing next to fake vents.
Yup the main problem is their designs are either super ugly or boring as hell
@@webchamp930 I've yet to see a BMW I like better than the E30, E92. Their interior designs aren't really that good, never actually were. I'm a fan of like Porsche, Mercedes, Audi before BMW, I feel.
🤣🤣🤣 I swear bro
@@jorhop4005 apparently the reason for the stupidly big grills on the new BMW"s is because of China. Apparently Chinese ppl like cars with big grills.
The main signs of a company’s failure is brand abuse: focus on investors over innovation, dividends over development, and CEO’s over workmen.
Sounds like typical publicly traded companies...
They also diluted their M brand, so many fake M car out there
the last one doesn't exactly apply for a great company. A lot of great companies like Amazon don't really care about the workmen and they are still profit machines.
You've basically described every corporation.
Ferrari are doing the same thing , they have always been the pinnacle of design and engineering and performance , low volume gorgeous cars . Now they are churning out bland uninspiring model after model and jumping on the terrible suv market . Others cars used to copy ferrari , now ferrari copy other cars

Mark my words in a couple of years BMW would start sharing technology with Toyota and vice versa..
What they really need to do, is "aggressively" focus on reliability. The market now is not into spending huge for a car and continue spending huge for the rest of its lifecycle
Innovate some durability and reliability and maybe they will sell more cars......
Correct
Right? Nobody buys a BMW these days, they only lease them because they're practically junk after 3 years.
For the pretentious, they appreciate the fact that BMW innovates their ego so they buy based off of impressing strangers. With that said, I think BMW will do just fine by catering to these people alone.
Same thoughts. My go to weekend car is a Lexus IS350 - you get the performance and luxury, with the added bonus that it won't fall apart after a few years. BMW needs to stop their planned obsolescence tactic and bring back the famous quality craftsmanship that Germans are known for.
Anything I’ve read suggests you’re out of touch..Mercedes has lost quite a bit on quality/durability in recent years, recently recovered somewhat but not on the BMW tip. Interesting that you don’t know this..
Bmw: so how much plastic can you throw inside the engine bay?
BMW engineers: yes!
Too much plastics
Spot in comment- plastic water pumps designed to brick the motor at 50k miles and people are on to them now
My $16k '19 Nissan Note has less plastic in it's engine bay than a 39k 2020 BMW 3 series!

unfortunately all the japanese models i have owned were the most reliable cars ever with superb electronics
They obviously operate in different consumer markets than German brands.
Robin Östringer of course this is global marketplace and distinct markets do offer different models than in other markets. In Europe, China, and USA/Canada there are both Japanese and German and plenty of the Japanese cars are either fast, premium sports cars or fast, premium luxury sedans.
@@Elliott_Elliott actually in 2020 everyone is fair game to car brands
But slow asf cant beat the twin power
Kurt Wollermann Definitely more reliable but they build for that and if you drive them you can tell the difference also the electronics in japanese compare to a german car are like comparing a Nokia brick to a iPhone reliable but very simple
The reason they're having an "image" crisis is because they've had a quality crisis for a while.
Every bmw after the e36, excluding M models, every series is basically the same just with a different body even the interiors are just scaled up
They're made out of plastic and charge ridiculous amounts for those plastic parts. So they fall apart after a few years. Meanwhile Audi quality is top notch and Mercedes is very good.

I had a 02 e39 540i, it is still my favorite driver's car, even today. When you try to have driving dynamics like Porsche and luxury like Mercedes, you have to save money somewhere, looks like it was reliability and build quality.
Bmw needs to improve their reliability first.

that has nothing to do with their sales because nobody who buys/leases a new BMW keeps them for more than 3-6 years anyway
BMW dilemma is this: there are people who wants sportiness but there are a whole lot more who wants luxury. Cater to just the sportiness crowd means it won't grow as fast (evidenced by Mercedes growing at a faster rate). Catering to both crowds means diluting its uniqueness and heritage and thus alienating the sportiness crowd. Unless BMW can satisfactorily solve this dilemma I don't see it take back the crown from Mercedes anytime soon. Sure BMW will continue to grow and make profits but the crown is gone.

7:43 In my opinion that is totally incorrect, what made Mercedes more popular now is what made BMW more popular in the early 2000s. Innovation and a good design, not more models. That is actually something that is currently being harmful to them, they have way to many cars that are really similar and confusing for customers. So whist more models might boost sales in the short term, BMW has to face the reality that they have to start to innovate again, like they once used to.
Yeh exactly, Tesla is doing quite well and they don’t offer many models. I do think they need better designers. The new 3 and 7 series look terrible imo.

I think you are wrong. Mercedes just squeezed every drop out of ic engines. Bmw made electric cars merc made 6.3L engines for rich sporty chinese buisnessmen and maybach kinda cars for the relaxed chinese buisnessmen. Bmw heavily invested in mexico before trump, build one of the most modern factories, invested in britain with mini before brexit. All in all many smaller errors and merc was just... these are the fossil years baby! (Don’t know if the electric smart is any good)
I always had a sweet spot for the i3. To me it was the perfect urban/suburban car. Perfect for day to day driving: small, practical, electric and peppy. I hope they are able to bring back a i3 v2. The big coupes are not my cup of tea, performance doesn’t need to be big engine, rear wheel drive 2 door anymore. That’s an old concept. To me a “sporty” car is equal to fun, not to absolute performance numbers. If it’s light on its feet and have enough power to move, I’m interested, I don’t need a big noisy engine.
I noticed years ago that both BMW and Mercedes suddenly had a weird "Chinese look" about them - grill, tail light, etc. Its obvious they are now making them to please Chinese accountants and dentists. Americans can put up with it or walk away, doesn't matter.

The reason BMW became so huge and desirable is because the company had a mission statement to build the ultimate driving machine and they delivered decade after decade.
