Anything is possible. They just started working on the sixth gen V8 and they said the 2029 Corvette (C9) will be gas powered with that engine. Who's to say a new Camaro won't have it too? Probably wishful thinking but hey, why not?
@Marc Torres Not really. 2 different platforms (chassis), different engines (direction injection vs not having direct injection), different interior and exterior. From a non cat person view, they look the same. From a car person view, they are not the same. Want to talk about not changing a vehicles looks for decades? Look at a Challenger, Charger, Tacoma, Wrangler or a GT-R. The differences between a 5th and 6th gen Camaro (exterior) is much more noticeable than those.
They’re not ending it at all. This video is either clickbait or just wrong. GM says a new Camaro will be released sometime after the current gen ends as a 2024 model.
@@joshualewis393 I actually just meant the body style. It's a newer version throwback of the 1967 69 models. I understand everything else is completely new and different.
Car prices are outrageous compared to what they used to be. A young adult in the 70's-80's could buy a brand new car 10x easier than they could today. Now a car, like a Camaro, which was the cheaper sport option is reserved for the same people who bought Corvettes. It's no surprise they are cutting all these iconic names. It's not like people don't want them, they just can't afford them.
you are totally wrong, the amount of opportunities people have today, they never had them before and it was harder to earn money then, but things were cheaper, now its easier to earn money but things are expensive
My mom bought a Camaro in 67. It was Butternut yellow with gold interior, and by that I mean everything was gold: seats, carpet, headliner, steering wheel, everything. It was a 327/ 210 hp, two speed auto with a console. She paid 2200.00 for it new. Five dollars got you filled up from dead empty. Those were the days.
And people averaged $87 a WEEK (source Chi Tribune from US Census data), you know like $2.18 an hour, so the car cost 1,000 hours of work before taxes. The Camaro was an average cost car then. An average car cost $48k now, but that is very much sent off average because of the stupidly high cost of trucks and luxury cars that were not popular in 1967. Even so the average salary today is $29.7 an hour so yeah it is more than 1000x more, but the vehicle is objectively much less polluting, much safer, much more powerful, much more efficient, and more reliable. So the thing is now are the days.

My family’s first car when we came to America was a 76 Camaro. Not really sure why, since it’s not a family car and there were four of us. Years later, when I turned 16, I was going to fix up that Camaro. I remember people coming by wanting to buy it because it was 25 years old. My dad donated it to charity. I almost had a stroke.

The new Mustang borrowed a lot of styling elements from the Camaro so I can see a lot of Camaro guys either switching up to a Corvette or settling down with a Dark Horse
@alex kennedy they are going to keep the v8 mustang for about 10 more years then slowly transition it into a ev unfortunately but the mustang isn't going anywhere
Mustang guy also, ‘twas my first car and I still own it, and I agree with everything you just said. so much respect. It’s almost more sad to see our competitors fall, than to see our own beloved nameplate fall onto a ev crossover. LONG LIVE MUSTANG CARSSSSS
If we can't this part of American culture to survive, we need to vote for Trump. It's just that simple. Ford won't keep making the Mustang if it fined out of profitability.
The problem is sport cars for many people are their second vehicle, having something more practical as a primary vehicle. Today fewer people can afford such a luxury.
Not sure why the crossover, a needlessly tall, un-aerodynmanic, heavier vehicle superseded sedans which handle better, are safer, offer a locking trunk and are just plain more fun to drive. With our sedans, we raised kids and all their crap, , carried my extensive video equipment, and with folding back seats, my road and off-road bikes away from the elements, all without having to drive a top heavy, unsightly box on wheels, instead of a car. It's my belief if more people drove the equivalent sedan over the SUV model they would see (and feel) the advantages. Sadly, our choices for rear drive, high performance sedans are pretty much limited to German, Swedish, Japanese and Korean options. The 25 year old Dodge Charger, is the sole popularly priced American sedan. RIP sedans.
As a Mustang owner that has converted and bought a Corvette C7. I feel for my Camaro cousins. I never had the pleasure of owning one. But they are beautiful cars. A sad day to watch our V8 icons dwindle away. But I bet it will have an amazing revival in the future.

its not just the sound of the v8 we love. its the shaking of the car as it idles. the smell of the gas. the heat from the exhaust. the whine from the supercharger. EVs will never replace that no matter how quick they are.
Not to mention the weight of the car. I understand that EVs are fast in a straight line, that's well and good. But you can't change physics, it's impossible to hide the thousands of extra pounds in a turn. Teslas are fast and fun to the lowest common denominator, but the second you've got a turn in the road they handle like slugs.

I just wish I could get 3 pedals in my mid sized GM trucks. But just like the V8 they are going away because government emissions standards, now all I can get is a turbo 4 cylinder in my mid sized GM truck. Now a twin turbo V6 in my GM mid sized truck now that would be power to weight I would LOVE to feel. I know the new 24' Toyota Tacoma has it but its a hybrid so I would wait about 4yrs so they can fix any bugs
I can’t help but think that Ford and GM are setting themselves up for failure by completely getting rid of “car” production. The only reason sales are so low for cars is because you can’t buy one because they don’t make them.

I think GM actually tried to save the Camaro by offering the LT1 trim, but consumers want all the luxury features too and by the time all the options are added up, you basically have a 1SS. The LT1 captured the essence of what a true muscle car used to be back in the 60s and 70s.
Honestly this is a simple fix. #1 Redesign it to make it a bit more like the Mustang. Make it more user friendly so that the average customer will consider it. #2. Be like Ford and make sure you have so many unit on lot at all times. #3. Stay away from making it EV. GM doesn't seem to understand that their client base (Especially for the Camaro) doesn't want EV. It 100% destroys the heritage of it, it doesn't have the rumble, that feeling that Camaro's, mustangs and Challengers have. They want vehicle with character and I'm sorry but EV's just aren't that. #4. All of the auto manufacturers can't not continue to take losses. So EV's are only going to get more expensive as these companies have to make a profit. So all the manufacturers should make it simple. Let Governments fine them and put those fine costs into the EV's MSRP's. If they all stood up for each other, the government will back off because they will have too. Simple.

My first muscle car was a Camaro. Ever since then, I’ve been looking for another Camaro to buy to enjoy on the weekends. I never cared about gas mileage when buying a muscle care, I want the power and fun when I hit that pedal to the floor. Sad the company is folding the brand instead of working harder to save it. I lost a ton of faith in GM after they had back to back bankruptcies. This tells me the company isn’t making good decisions still and this Camaro decision tells me they are making more bad decisions now.
And; With GM continuing to make bad decisions, in time they'll tank again asking the government for another bail out at the expense of hardworking, poor tax paying citizens.
But let’s look on the Bright side. Everybody is celebrating the fact that they are led by a woman and that they have more women on their Board of Directors than any other automobile company. That’s what counts!
GMs best ideas always came from rogue visionaries not from committees. The Camaro/Firebird rivalry was a bit of genius because GM supplied both of the competitors. after the last Camaro reboot the Camaro was competing against Corvette another car from its own stable . The styling of the recent Camaros is somewhat bland and subtle for the high price.
They are all domestic crap. The challenger is fat barge you can’t see out of but has a market with people who value high numbers in their engine but low numbers with their credit score. The mustang is a rental car and also the defining value domestic sports car. Like no enthusiast wanted to be in a GT over a M2. The Camaro was always just #2 to the latter and therefore is dying.
I purchased a 2017 2SS 6MT in 2021 as a used car. That is an excellent car. It gets far better mileage than one would think. In fact, it has become my highway cruiser. I also own an1994 Honda Prelude, and a 2018 Nissan Titan. The Camaro SS with 455hp, gets the best mileage out of all of them.
Those 6th gen Camaro's are nice, specifically in the bang for the buck department. It's always been that way throughout all of the generations, for instance the Camaro's astonishing lap time at Nürburgring. I've owned many Camaro's over the years in one form or another and still do today, everyone of them treated me just fine.
I love Camaros and always loved them as a kid when I watched Transformers when I was 5 years old. It’s so sad the Camaro is getting discontinued but I know there’s a lot of problems in the Car industry and the inflation makes it worse. If GM and Chevrolet is making an Electric Camaro I hope it looks futuristic and with the 6th gen aspect but better. And Chevy can add fake Camaro sounds to be optional in his EV Muscle, so that the essence is not lost
inflation comes and goes- all you have to do is get the timing right. inflation doesn't directly affect the motor business because its just a sign of the times
The reason car sales have dropped so much is because the manufacturers aren't making cars anymore for the US market simply because they can make more money on big trucks and SUVs.
That's because they can't make the kind of cars people want, they can only make Japanese-style cars, which some of us do NOT want. Chrysler kept making some, but they refused to make enough styling changes and stopped advertising it, which destroyed sales.
@@michaelbenardo5695 What do you mean by Japanese style cars? The Ford Fusion was a good seller for Ford, but they got rid of it and other cars for a number of reasons. One of those reasons is fuel economy related.
I think another reason sales dropped is because GM hasn't updated the look of the new one much at all since its rerelease. The old angry transformer look is getting tired.
i think its its quality and constant recalls, and cost and lack of vision in styling dept ,as i can honestly say my 1980 z28 camaro 350 4sp muncie and posi was far nicer and more reliable and also my 88 iroc was so much better looking and fun to drive. We've owned 4 gm vehicles ,but failure by GM and Dealerhip to tell us about recalls on our newer cars has made any future purchase by us on any GM vehicles a higly unlikely venture ,due to the way us as customers have been treated poorly by GM and there dealerships.
The real reason for drops in sales are the dealer mark-ups period..and that goes for a lot of cars in this class, how can someone financially justify paying almost half more than what the car is worth for a vehicle that not practical?
No. They just have not managed to keep up with the dodge charger/challenger. So much history that they could have used to truly compete with dodge but they just fumbled the ball. Also the body style got old, hadn't really changed significantly since it came back in 09. The guy said only 22k cameros were sold in 2022. Well Dodge sold 80k Chargers and 55k Challengers in that same year.
As a proud Charger owner, I agree with Mack 100%. Dodge has done the retro muscle car better than Ford and Chevy. They ate way more popular and the Charger is probably the best value. I remember writing about the possibility of a 5th Gen Camaro in 2002 for a college writing class. GM has never learned the lesson of how to preserve brand legacies. It’s not about retro styling, which is equivalent to the Hollywood “80s reboot” craze. It’s about allowing new technologies to evolve, while keeping the purpose and function of a particular car brand the same. A great example is the Impala SS. The ‘94 to ‘96 Impala was brilliant, because it evolved while still being what an Impala was meant to be: a full size mid-level luxury passenger car with enough muscle under the hood to make driving fun. As soon as the Impala became a wimpy, mid-size, entry level economy car, it died a slow, horrible death. The GMT400 trucks are another great example. The 90s reimagined look for the C/K series of trucks and rebranding them as the Silverado and Sierra didn’t diminish the customer demand for a solidly built truck with an interior and fit & finish a step above entry-level Ford and Dodge half-tons, while there was still plenty of demand until 1991 for the previous generation “square body” C/K Series.
@@TheRealJLucas, but that’s the thing: Buicks were selling like hotcakes to Chinese businessmen as the better investment per gross vehicle weight compared to BMW, Mercedes, and Maserati. Pontiac was just the “driving excitement” brand guys like Bob Seager would drive (saw his ‘63 Catalina in a car museum in Amarillo, TX). Let’s face it: GM has always bent the knee to politics because its that bureaucratic, feudalist mindset that’s required to acquire successful car manufacturers like Chevrolet into a single parent company, and do stupid things like sabotage Pontiac’s performance line by refusing to let them use forged connecting rods while only the Camaro and Corvette get them in the 60s, or limit marketing of the GNX and ‘89 Trans Am Indy Pacecar that could smoke the Corvette with a 3.8L V6. As much as I’m in love with GM tooling and branding, it needs to be broken up, or GM just needs to commit to each brand under their banner producing a certain type of vehicle (GMC for trucks, Chevy for general purpose cars, Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile made more into brand packages for Chevy cars for the type of luxury and performance one wants, and Cadillac as the de-facto luxury car/SUV brand).
I think the biggest problem with the recent generation Camaro is the overall design. Just too close to the previous generation, and nothing really exciting. Historically, each new generation Camaro (and Firebird) were clean sheet designs and brought in new excitement to the nameplate. Hopefully the (eventual) EV version will bring a new fun direction.
I wish they would have made a modern version of the 70-81. It would have been larger. The current one is a great sports car, but people buy Challengers instead and a big reason is they are more practical. The trunk and back seat can be used.
@@houseofno True, 100% agree - Though you could easily tell the difference between the 3rd & 4th gens. I think that decision was a contributing factor to the beginning of the softening sales that led the 2002 cancellation.

Challenger is being changed from a muscle car to an electric car. Seriously have to wonder what kind of idiot pitched that idea and what worse idiots said "do it!"
The Challenger could be your only car. The Camaro was just not big enough inside to be that for most Americans. Sales come from the bottom up. It’s not all helllcats that pushed the challenger numbers that’s for sure
GM has said (not publicly) in the past that the Camaro directly competes with their Corvette. For a while (not sure if is still true) they both uses the same power plants so you were getting a 'vette engine for 'cheaper'. Which of course people figured out and it ate into their vette sales. I imagine that is, at least, part of the reason as well they just dont want to say that.
well, the people who can afford the corvette (which isn't most people) buy them... by getting rid of the camaro they're just losing more sales... rather than gaining more for the corvette...
The original Camaro, (1960s and even 1970s), didn't compete with the Vette. It never offered the top Corvette engines, and as good as it was, it was a sporty car, not a sports car. The Corvette is a no-holds-barred Sports Car, not merely a sporty car.

They finally made it to the top of the heap.
Same deal with owning a motorcycle, a sports car like the Camaro is just a luxury item and isn't really that practical to own if you don't have a good amount of disposable income.
GM made the 6th gen Camaro too much of a sports car. The Alpha chassis was significantly better than S550 (stiffer/lighter/better handling), yet it became about 4 inches too small for casual buyers. Unfortunately, the American market cares about size over performance, hence why the Mustang and Challenger sold better. Speaking of the Challenger, it's on a 20 year old chassis that is absolute garbage, yet it sold incredibly well because Dodge focused on it as a muscle car rather than a pony car. The best car does not always win.
They also give out loans to people who could not normally afford them. My friend works at the bank and said Mercedes and Dodge were the number one defaults. I see a lot of people pulling up next to me 2:29 in Chargers and Challengers with 24” wheels. I cannot beat the Hellcat in my 911 or M3. When I am in the Tesla I have not lost yet. I kinda disagree with "too much of a sports car". In my opinion, the very best sports car you can get for ~$50,000 right now is the Camaro SS with the 1LE package (and 6-speed manual, of course).
@@LanguagesWithAndrew The 1LE is the car you (and me) want, but it didn't appeal to enough people. Sadly, most people want a Challenger sized pony car and the poor handling didn't stop them.
@@ChrisFromFloriduh great point, another reason I’m tempted to keep my 6th gen SS instead of trade in for C8. Lot of kids love it. And with its tune capability I expect as gen z gets more money they’ll drive 6th gen prices up crazy 10-15 years from now
As a 19yo college student with not enough money to even afford the base models this hurts. I’d much rather a new Camaro than a used one especially if it’s a v8. But it seems my dreams going to just be a dream. My last hope is the mustang now. I just need that v8 muscle :( ugh

Let's not forget there was a huge gap between 2002 and 2010 when there were no new Camaros. So it isn't quite 57 years. Also, the age of the small, impractical 2 or 2 + 2 sportscar or ponycar is kind of gone. Sales numbers for these kinds of cars are very low, performance of "normal" EVs is so good that the V8 ponycars are lagging behind. With the low CG of an EVs the low bodies of ponycars no longer provide a big advantage, and it has simply become a drawback. They lack space, you sit low, you can't see well, etc... They became niche.
From an economical standpoint of view, I can fully comprehend the discontinuation of the Camaro, it wasn´t worth to hold it on. From a german petrol head perspective it´s a sad moment, every time such icone disappears. I´m even happier that in 2020 I saved myself one of these last Camaro masterpieces, a manual shifted 6th GEN ZL1 in beautiful silver ice! It´s an incredible car to look at every angle and perspective, combined with an insane driver feeling and bloodcurdling sound.
Glad I picked up my 2022 2SS 1LE last year when I did. The days of manual transmission V8 cars is waning and I wanted to make sure I got one before they disappeared completely.
This has been a long time coming because of the poor sales, Chevy, and GM in general just didn’t push this car enough and the 6th gen deserved more. But Ford was smart by not strictly making the Mustang an EV, but having an EV crossover in the family and I think if we do see the Camaro again , it’s going to be strictly EV.
I thought my 2010 camaro was pretty cool until the tone ring shifted on the crankshaft.. what a stupid design. After replacing the crankshaft the timing chains stretched a year later! Lost all of my trust in GM after that and I needed something reliable so I traded it in for a Toyota and it’s been great, at least it starts every time 😂
The 6th Gen wasn't a bad looking car, but the design didn't appeal to the masses the way the Challenger and Mustang did. If you notice Camaro used to have lots of commercials when it sold well and had "ahead of its time" design. The second gen and the Thirdgen with the IROC Z had everyone and their moms wanting one. The reason they got cancelled in 2002 was the same issue, an unenthusiastic response the the 4th gen re-design. Again, not a bad looking car, but not liked by as many people who loved previous designs. The death of Pontiac was not good for Camaro sales either. The F-Body platform with Firebird and Camaro had strong roots and heritage. The newer Camaro is a Cadillac platform. Better, but also more expensive. A Camaro used to be style and fun first so everyone wanted one. If you knew what options to get some were quick but they had T-Tops, V8 rumble and were a party on wheels for cheap. Like if a Jeep Wrangler was a sports car. Camaro owners were content to let Porsches that cost 8 times more win because they were having more fun for far less $$$. Now that Camaro has to keep up with luxury and exotics they can get really expensive. If you look at GM marketing its 100% Truck, SUV and now pushing EV. If marketing = sales then there's also part of your answer.
To me, in terms of aerodynamics, both the 3rd and 4th-Gen Camaros and Trans AMs are as close to the "Corvette-Feel" as any of the other Camaro and/or Trans AM Generations, with the front pointed bumper noses. Thus, in spite of the low head room, I am keeping my 4th-Gen 2002 SLP SS with a 6-Speed Manual.
That wasn't the issue. GM wanted to get out of its agreement with the Quebec plant and I recall there being some clause, that prevented them from switching factories. The plan to bring back the Camaro, was already whispered verbatim around the industry in the early-mid 2000s. Bob Lutz knew something that the public didn't obviously, St. Therese plant had to go, but doing what they did was an open secret for years.
@@nwezetx1 could be, but when the 4th gen came out it was outselling the Mustang for a couple years (over 110,000 units) and once the did the facelift in 1998 they were under 50,000 units and plummeted to 23,000 units. Mustang sales did the opposite. I do remember them wanting to get out of their agreement with the Quebec plant. They had a lot of drama from what I heard when they shut Norwood down in 1987. I heard the stories from people that worked there during the Third Gen run. They gave away the last Norwood car to an employee so as not to totally collapse morale. Still shows how Chevy really always treated Corvette better. Aside from the Thirdgen and even the beginning of the 4th gen you can tell just from the marketing they were excited about what they were putting out. And even now the press videos on the C8 and Z06, you can tell Chevy is proud of that product. That’s part of the story as well.
The same thing happening the first time they ended them, they priced themselves out of the market. Simply put, the people who wanted them can't afford them, and the people who can afford don't want them anymore.
I hope they had a good reason for that high cowl, like major cost/platform limitations, because the lack of glass area not only makes it really hard to live with, but gives it cartoonish proportions as well. It's such an excellent car mechanically, but a lot of people have people have probably refused to consider it due that compromise.
I had one for a weekend in Colorado and tried to take it through the twisties in the rockies, and found that seating position abhorrent! I couldn't see the curves in the road ahead because more than10 degrees to the left or right and there was a 25% blind spot right where the car was headed. In other words, it made every corner a blind corner! It took everything away from the experience of an otherwise nice looking, good handling, well powered coupe :( I never touched the Camaro again after that.
@@1499Crew My new '23 Camaro was an easy and quick adjustment. It's my summer daily driver. I have absolutely no problem seeing out of it in any direction. What about the direct competitor to the Camaro? The Trans Am? How come that car doesn't make a comeback, I think that that car would be an instant hit, thousands and thousands of pre orders.
Over the years Camaro, Mustang, etc... have come to look more like every other care. Corvette was going that way for a decade or so, but now has reinvented a new look different from most cars, but similar to some high end European high performance cars. I guess 60 years ago there could be more niche styled cars because the total market was smaller. Now the market is bigger makers want every model to sell a lot of units.
Getting to ride in a friends 67 Camaro was super cool. It’s a shame they are ending production but with any luck just like ford did with the Bronco, it will come back at some point

Us 'car guys' are becoming a dying breed. Just go to any classic car show and you'll see old guys with old cars. Not too many young people. A few, yes, but not enough imo. We had a great run but when we head to the junk yard in the sky that will be that. The next generations will be driving electric toasters talking, maybe, about the old guys with their gas guzzlers. They will have plenty of time to talk as they will be waiting for their vehicles to charge...
I still remember a friend's '68 Z28 with the Thunderbird speedometer. His dad worked at Ford, and the T-Bird speedometer went higher than the Camaro’s! 😃

GREED BEA T S PASSION

And;
With GM continuing to make bad decisions, in time they'll tank again asking the government for another bail out at the expense of hardworking, poor tax paying citizens.

To be fair, GM hold the longest running nameplate for a vehicle - the Suburban
@@charlieruns7953 that's right I still have my 1987 3 quarter ton with the 454 engine in it

@@chrisbullard5901 very well said and agreed!
Actually the early fourth gen cars resembled the third gen cars so there is a precedent for this.

It's about smog credits. They'd rather axe the Camaro then the Corvette.
The Corvette handles much better than the Camaro. But with only 2 seats it has a very limited market.
The original Camaro, (1960s and even 1970s), didn't compete with the Vette. It never offered the top Corvette engines, and as good as it was, it was a sporty car, not a sports car. The Corvette is a no-holds-barred Sports Car, not merely a sporty car.

Gen Z is actually making a comeback of the manual transmission. They WANT sports cars, they just cannot afford them.
They seem to have trouble hooking up. My favorite thing right now is to take my 4Runner rock crawling, camping and then ride my mountain bike around the terrain.

F-ing Government, hell bent on killing the human spirit.
I’m disappointed that the last edition is just an appearance package.Should have went out with a beast. I have my 2018 ZL1 I’m fine
Maybe my experience helped me adjust quickly. I've driven everything that can be driven on the road.......from a VW Rabbit to tractor trailers and everything in between including motorcycles.
I remember climbing into a new one about five years ago at an auto show; once I got in it felt like I was sitting in a bathtub.
I'm not thrilled.
Camaro to me, I had a 1984 Z28, is like Heavy Metal...Raw, Loud, Aggressive, and Powerful.
EV won't be the same.
Getting to ride in a friends 67 Camaro was super cool. It’s a shame they are ending production but with any luck just like ford did with the Bronco, it will come back at some point
GM's making a very big mistake
[again]
@@MrMustangMan Bingo !
Not the first time General Motors has killed off the Camaro. They did it along with the Firebird in 2002.
I hated this before I found out manufacturers were going all electric. Now I think it's a good send off for it, I'd hate to see an electric Camaro! I love my '81.
Legends don’t die, this car definitely is a legend and will live on but in a different way
Us 'car guys' are becoming a dying breed.

Well not actually 57 years since it was taken out of production in 2002 and returned as a 2010. I was one of those Camaro nuts too. 3 of them.
Indeed. The name spanned 57 years but was actually produced for 50 years 👍🏽
I still remember a friend's '68 Z28 with the Thunderbird speedometer. His dad worked at Ford, and the T-Bird speedometer went higher than the Camaro’s! 😃
