@@langbo9999 You honestly think Doom Eternal wont come out next year? Theyve got so much done and ready to go, and theyve been developing it for the last 2 years straight
I wouldn't mind having DOOM 4 (Call of DOOM) as a spin off from the perspective of a Marine stationed on Earth. As long as it's not riding on the title name and uses a different name but will take place in the same universe as either DOOM 3 or DOOM 2016... Really wouldn't want another Hardline, which rode on Battlefield's popularity and should have just been its own title.
This would be so awesome. Wonder if they'll use it or use it as inspiration for DLC. A stand alone title would be awesome too. Set it during the Hell invasion before the events of Eternal.
I believe that Call of Duty needs to be more like Doom as far as a single protagonist..something different. It's the same every year...without Doom there wouldn't be a call of duty
I was there at QC int the 3rd row when they did that private DOOM reveal and it mind-blowing. I'd never seen anything like it and was completely blown away. We were all expecting some sort of lame teaser with like a 20-sec clip of "in-engine" footage that wasn't representative of anything...instead we got something like 15 minutes of live gameplay! agreed, rage was pretty damn fun. It reminded me a lot of doom with the extremely minimal story and heavy focus on gameplay. A lot of people said they didnt like it but I think it introduced a lot of really cool an unique mechanics and I really enjoyed the style and art design and all of that. I hope they dont just drop it and they end up doing a sequel some day.
Joe Can holy shit I forgot about that lol. That was so weird to see. Its such an obscure game and it was kind of jarring to see it on an extremely popular national tv show. I guess it was cheaper than call of duty at the time :P
As for me, RAGE was not something of a really GREAT game, it was just a good game to play. Looking back (and trying to play now) I can't really recall any hype I might have had. Perhaps I was really excited by the game, but the ending ruined everything for me just emotionally, it seems.

***** just because outdated ways of building maps arent implemented in the new doom it doesnt mean that its consolized, the fact is that you cant have both somewhat realistic (meaning that they would make sense in real life) looking enviroments and the puzzles of the originals, i do agree that sometimes it locks the doors behind you for no other reason than to force you to progress, making you miss stuff that you wanted to access later, which is compleatly unecesary since levels like the foundry have no problem with leaving you be. its not consolized, its just a dumb choice in map making that doesnt work well with doom's style of mapping. im serious when i tell you to replay levels like the foundry where bullshit like that doesnt happen. also, the glory kill system isnt consolization either, consolization would be if it had a fuck ton of QTEs just to make it more worthwhile for console players since they cant aim for shit at close ranges

I gotta seriously say a lot of credit and mad respect goes out to the people at id software for making the very extremely tough call to scrap everything they made for the doom 4 project and restart all over again from the ground up. Developers like kevin cloud, robert duffy, marty stratton and hugo martin who at the end of it all took a step back and re-evaluated the doom 4 project as a whole and accepted/realized that it just wasn't going to work as a doom game as much as they hoped it would and changed course all together. I gotta say that must be heartbreaking for a game development studio to throw away months to years of hard work on a game project just to scrap it all away especially when the devs who worked on it probably busted their butts hours every day on it, believed in it's production value, saw the potential of the idea's and thought it could work from a strong narrative angle. Hate them or love them there's no denying bethesda had a role in doom 2016 success and a lot of respect goes out to them who stuck with id software all the way through those dark and difficult years for the studio and gave them all the support and creative freedom to make a masterpiece game. But at the end of it all it seems like they put aside their pride to work together and accepted it wasn't going to work and agreed as a studio to do what was best for the franchise and the fans. And from the ashes of their scrapped doom 4 project came perfection in the form of doom 2016 and their time working in the trenches on the doom project through those rough years paid off for id. I wish every single developer who worked on the doom project all the success and more in the world for making the right call, working their asses off and making doom badass again. Thank you Id software for all your hard work. Your fans appreciate the love, passion, creativity , ambition and hard work you all put into making both doom 2016 and doom eternal bad ass.
Mad props to id Software for being confident enough in their brand and what they do to not be bothered by showing footage of the cancelled Doom game. It gave awesome insight into the development process and you can see the origins in Doom 2016 in Doom 4 1.0 which is fascinating.

I vaguely remember the Quakecon 2014 demo and what we got out of E3 the following year was practically the same as how people described it. Maybe only those pars were the ones that differed. Right down to the Jetpack Revenant punching you.
Kelltron i mean it looks interesting. I wouldnt mind if they released it as a seperate game away from the doom franchise. That way it wouldnt taint dooms legacy.
I liked the way the Imp teleported. The particle effect and teleportation combined made the demon much more creepy and it looked cool, and I think it would be cool gameplay wise.
Great pacing and editing - this is the perfect display of company culture vs development for game industry people like myself. An overall excellent documentary. Looking forward to watching part two.
I am thinking more from Bethesdas perspective. If id said "This game we are making is cool but we don't feel it will be a good Doom game" my first instinct would be to rebrand it, instead of completely scrapping everything after obviously significant amounts of money were poured in.
+Kaffeebohnson Looks like DOOM 4 could have been a cool spin-off title instead of a main series entry. Call it Hell on Earth: A Doom Story or something like that.
Hey! Danny! First Noclip vid I've seen. Is this his channel? Also can you do one for Unreal and Deus Ex? Both centered on only the original. Also a series on all of the Thief games would be incredible.
The fact that this game came out and is so perfectly executed in every way... in 2016... is cathartic. I was convinced nobody knew how to make video games like this anymore.
This is still my favourite Noclip video, it made me get off my ass and go buy doom and today I'm going to watch it all over again, thanks Danny for the amazing content!
Rage and Doom 3 were so awesome! I loved Rage and there was so much to do in that game despite the very abrupt ending. Doom 3 was hard but the redeeming factor was the option to save anywhere, it added a strategy all to itself, trying to decide when to save or if the ammo I saved is gonna be enough to continue...
One part of Rage that sucked was if you got to a certain point the last town area with the racing gets cut off due to the story. So... you couldn't play stuff if you kind of skipped it and wanted to go back.
DrSmokeTrees Nah sorry, Doom 3 was a great and well made game. It was a good step forward towards Doom franchise just like every next Call of Duty is a step backward towards First Person Shooters.

using Vulkan API on PC , was getting 140 + fps on ultra @1080p with a gtx 1070 , Best optimized game I've seen till date
Yep, probably the best optimized game in my gaming years. I played it with my mid-range RX 470 Radeon and was getting 90 - 110 fps on ultra at 1080p using Vulkan. Too bad not many developers use Vulkan.
"A trip to hell Richardson Texas" as a Texan that was painfully accurate
That come-out-of-nowhere power walker though
I was never really much of a gamer until I played DOOM 2016
I still don’t know what caused me to buy it, I had never played a Doom game before or ever really seen much of how any of them plays, but I bought it, ripped through some demons and have been obsessed ever since!
Welcome to the Doom Family, haha) You might want to check out some other gimes like Painkiller, Serious Sam (1st and 2nd encounter specifically) or Bulletstorm.
Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein! (Not Wolfenstein II or YoungBlood)
@@Doomreb I heard new order was good
@@sadham2668 It is! it's Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: Old Blood. Then Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, then Youngblood. To be fair though it's the same awesome gameplay in Wolfenstein II it's just the story and themes that's not good.
I love this. I’ve been playing doom my whole life and never thought of what the developers went through. I never thought of who was making this stuff. It was an emotional experience to see it with their level of investment. Good job guys.
Cannot wait for part 2, Loving these docos, I think NoClip might be the first patreon I contribute to.
Yup, just went $3 myself, happy to help out in a small way :D
same here man
Danny O'Dwyer, a true gaming journalist, one we have needed for a long time. Keep it up
Loving this style of gaming media. Feels so, premium, like something I should've paid for...

I'm confused? Context pls? You mean marty?
@@chrispy5249 wasn't it Bethesda that was behind the scummy treatment of Mick Gordon?
@@clouds-rb9xt I think he means that we learned that Marty is actually a dirt bag, and he doesn't want to learn anything about about Hugo.
I would bet money that Hugo is as he seems which is a totally great guy. Hugo is one of the coolest guys in the game industry IMO.
@@metalandmagic1424 I think it was mostly Marty Stratton nad probably bethesda. I don't think Hugo Martin had anything to do with that shit at all. He's the creative director so he's really not in charge of paying or even hiring composers.
Rage is such an underrated game, i absolutely loved it so i'm often bemused when people say it's a bad game. The shooting feels satisfying and the enemy AI is excellent.
Look at any of the dozens of crap games on Steam early access, THOSE are bad games.
Exactly! Rage is very underrated.
Rage was incredible...the pistol was a beast
I adore DOOM 2016. I had to delete it from my PS4's hard drive to make space for FFXV, but you can bet I'll be re-downloading that massive file to replay it again and again.
And Danny, I love what you're doing with Noclip. This is some top tier stuff, my friend.
+BlackSun it played nothing like Painkiller.
it's more like serious sam if anything
munky cheez
Have either of you even played Serious Sam or Painkiller. It really doesn't seem like it. As DOOM is nothing like those two games, whom are similar to one another in terms of gameplay.
BlackSun Nice b8 m8
Man the PS4 is a hard console to use with that limited hard drive space and whatnot. PC is so much easier and straightforward and not as nerdy.
Game of the year. These guys came out of nowhere with a game that few expected would kick so much ass.
Very cool to see behind the scenes on 2016's surprise hit.
I'm glad the went with DOOM 2016, it's amazing. Also loved DOOM 3, btw.
And DOOM 2019 is going to be epic.

It would be awesome if they did spin off Doom games that are more survival horror like Doom 3 was
It is a possible DLC to Doom Eternal now. They said in the DLC we wont play as the slayer but as someone on ground.
Call it: Hell on Earth
I was there at QC int the 3rd row when they did that private DOOM reveal and it mind-blowing. I'd never seen anything like it and was completely blown away. We were all expecting some sort of lame teaser with like a 20-sec clip of "in-engine" footage that wasn't representative of anything...instead we got something like 15 minutes of live gameplay! Dude came out and was playing the freaking game!
MyNameIsFatMike wow! Looked immense. how close was the in game footage to what we got in general release?
I can't believe they showed the Quakecon footage. You don't know how much I loved seeing that
This was awesome. Is there any chance of the entire QuakeCon gameplay being uploaded somewhere, and even more Doom 4 1.0 gameplay?
OZKABOT Gaming lol that's what I said
not yet :/
yea pretty much

Danny O'Dwyer bringing the freshest content and channel to UA-cam in gaming! Brilliant

I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind playing Call of Doom just to see how it would play out.
yeah me too. I played Quake 4 which was imo pretty much shit, but id software was my real gaming mother in a sense.
Yeah I’d like to give that a try
Its not Doom. So no thanks.

These are absolutely fantastic documentaries, and the exact type of content I can't get enough of. Stay inspired!
I finished watching this and immediately started the Rocket League doc. I have to say Danny, I'm thoroughly impressed. I can't imagine how strenuous the work is that you put into these because they're truly phenomenal! So much content and it's produced so well. I'm not really in a position right now to become a backer, but rest assure once I am in a comfortable position I will totally become a Patron! Content like this is what makes UA-cam, the Internet, and creativity and passion awesome!
Wow, this is a very well composed and edited documentary. Thank you for taking the time to create it and to share.
I'm very happy to know that ID software still has passionate, dedicated and loyal game producers who are not just making games for the money
26:06 Damn, son, can I get some fries with that shake?

he got that call of b00ty
It's called power walking.
Saracen Gaming In Texas though? It seems like such a Californian thing to do!
+StraightOuttaJarhois I was on a lunch break, leave me alone!
Amazingly well done documentary, love id!
Also, RAGE's so underrated it's crazy...
agreed, rage was pretty damn fun.
Helder Pinto I know right?! I love RAGE! Hopefully they make a sequel
Helder Pinto I remember what made me want to play it was that Jesse played it on Breaking Bad hahaha
Noclip the best video game documentary Channel on UA-cam hands down the level of quality unparalleled among the rest keep it up noclip you are forever changing the video game documentary history for the better shedding light on the dark and mysterious creation video games and the amazing people behind them

What we got was obviously way better, but I wonder if they'd release whatever they had of "Doom 4 1.0" as a free DLC or something for what we got, just for shits and giggles so we could see what the story was like.
+BlackSun Just, just stop it.
wat? if anything you could compare it more to shadow warrior 2013, but painkiller, where the fuck did you get that idea?
100% Agree ! I'm willing to pay !

just because outdated ways of building maps arent implemented in the new doom it doesnt mean that its consolized, the fact is that you cant have both somewhat realistic (meaning that they would make sense in real life) looking enviroments and the puzzles of the originals, i do agree that sometimes it locks the doors behind you for no other reason than to force you to progress, making you miss stuff that you wanted to access later, which is compleatly unecesary since levels like the foundry have no problem with leaving you be.
its not consolized, its just a dumb choice in map making that doesnt work well with doom's style of mapping.
im serious when i tell you to replay levels like the foundry where bullshit like that doesnt happen.
also, the glory kill system isnt consolization either, consolization would be if it had a fuck ton of QTEs just to make it more worthwhile for console players since they cant aim for shit at close ranges
The speed walker at the end though lol
Awesome video! can't wait for part 2.
I dunno if you're gonna see this Danny but this is what I've always wanted videogame journalism/media to be. No Clickbait, No Cringy stuff, Just pure quality and professionalism !! I always loved your work man, and i'm sure as hell going to promote this channel however I can :)
Keep up the great work
Am I the only one who thought it was pronounced I.D. software and not id?
thats because I.D is a diferent thing, the id from their name is taken from Freud, you know id, ego and superego?
Kayhub , I used to call it I.D., too. :P. I felt dumb when I was corrected it because then it seems kinda obvious.
same here haha.
to the Community it will always be I.D.
It's idiotic claiming to take it from Freud as it loses all power in the translation. Freud coined the terms of Ich, Über-Ich and Es.
There is no "id", it's just IT. Guess you can't steal from a German Jew correctly, being the successors of the Nazis. USA, we'll end you in time. Greetings from Europe!
so fuckin good. cant wait for part 2!
Thanks so much for watching!
Fantastic work Danny! Looking forward to part 2!
I wanna play that Doom 4 that didn't come out.
Call it "Doom Wars: Hell On Earth."
I'd play the shit out of that game as muchas the Doom 2016.
Call of doom
you have a terrible taste
@@marcosmourino7130 aw cmon it was different but the concept was still valid. I'd at least give it a shot, as a sort of "what-if" alternate dimension version of the Doom I love
24:20 DUDE imagine being in that room. noone could have imagined how new doom would skyrocket. amazing stuff
Doom 3 is still one of my favorite games. Haven't played Doom 2016, waiting until I get VR next month. Can't wait!
you should try Doom 3
Doom VFR was a big letdown tbh. You should try Fully Possessed VR mod for Doom 3
Mad props to id Software for being confident enough in their brand and what they do to not be bothered by showing footage of the cancelled Doom game. It gave awesome insight into the development process and you can see the origins in Doom 2016 in Doom 4 1.0 which is fascinating.
I want to play that unreleased DOOM 4!
But you have it. Call of duty. Replace enemies with demons and there you are. Call of doom, aka doom 4.

Rage was a great game. Just wanted to get it out there for those who still bag on the game.
i wanna see ALL the quake con footage
HairyHog Me too.
HairyHog go to quake con two years ago
Bulid a time machine
I think that was all of the gameplay btw, so you'll just get a ton of hype building & deserved cheering.
I vaguely remember the Quakecon 2014 demo and what we got out of E3 the following year was practically the same as how people described it. Maybe only those pars were the ones that differed. Right down to the Jetpack Revenant punching you.
I really want to see a full gameplay video for the cancelled doom 4 if you have it
Yeah, the footage presented here really isn't enough.
Kelltron true
Kelltron i mean it looks interesting. I wouldnt mind if they released it as a seperate game away from the doom franchise. That way it wouldnt taint dooms legacy.
I liked the way the Imp teleported. The particle effect and teleportation combined made the demon much more creepy and it looked cool, and I think it would be cool gameplay wise.
Great pacing and editing - this is the perfect display of company culture vs development for game industry people like myself. An overall excellent documentary. Looking forward to watching part two.
Love the color grading work, it really came through even on UA-cam :)
Cool to see more footage of the original Doom 4! That would have been a cool game, I wonder why they didn't simply rename it and made it a new IP...
Money. Gotta throw it at something and I think id really wanted both a success and a real homage to DOOM.
I am thinking more from Bethesdas perspective. If id said "This game we are making is cool but we don't feel it will be a good Doom game" my first instinct would be to rebrand it, instead of completely scrapping everything after obviously significant amounts of money were poured in.
idk what you'd be able to rebrand it as though, it has demons and a hell invasion on earth, and it's by id. What else could it be other than doom?
***** I guess you are right. It wouldn't have fooled anyone.
+Kaffeebohnson
Looks like DOOM 4 could have been a cool spin-off title instead of a main series entry. Call it Hell on Earth: A Doom Story or something like that.
Hey! Danny! First Noclip vid I've seen. Is this his channel?
Also can you do one for Unreal and Deus Ex? Both centered on only the original.
Also a series on all of the Thief games would be incredible.

Noclip makes FANTASTIC video game documentaries. One of my favorite new channels!
Top 1 soundtrack of this year, easily.
bigsuff and unofficially GOTY!

Dont forget that they wanted to make Rage trilogy, thats why it feel so unfinished.
Doom 3 was a shitty game. Doom is not survival horror.
+DrSmokeTrees It fits the theme well and I appreciate all the work and quality put into the game.
DrSmokeTrees Nah sorry, Doom 3 was a great and well made game. It was a good step forward towards Doom franchise just like every next Call of Duty is a step backward towards First Person Shooters.
I agree with everyone on the quality of this documentary, you did a great job, really well polished and captured the tone of the interviews really well with the video
