She certainly does "yip". :) It's often heard at the end of a shanty to indicate the work accompanied by the shanty has finished and it's what we in the business call a "Sailor's Hitch." - technically speaking ;)
"Fighting for Strangers".: Sounds just like a column of soldiers marching wearily along, using their boots, rifles and brightwork as percussion, with an occasional tired drummer heard, far down the column.
I wonder why Rick Kemp was not with them this time. He was very present at SpanFest in '07 and a delight to hear. And what a musician he is! He was often compared with Entwhistle and Squire; that's not bad company to be in.
Much as I love Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span I think this is a poor video. No disrespect is intended, but the mix quality at St.Davids leaves much to be desired.
Ha ha, I don't think many people will be playing shove-penny anymore after hearing that the boards contain bird poo, I was listening, he certainly had my attention. I suppose really it might have been worse if they were actually laughing at him. Can't fault the song though, love this band.
He told an interesting story in a rather uninspiring, boring way. I'm not surprised the audience's eyes started to glaze over. I'd always wondered what the connection between seagull and shove (ha)penny was - now I know!
Thanks for posting this retrospective look at one of Britain's greatest groups in the genre.
Eb English is such a beautiful piece of music written by Peter. Not a dry eye in the audience these days with Peter Knights Gigspanner and this tune.
Peter Knight plays with grace and skill, a players' player.
Gay Woods had the most wonderful voice ....... hope her "Lowlands of Holland " is here somewhere .... love her yips at the end of songs.

Steeleye Span sublime.
Peter knight superbe violoniste
Steeleye are fantastic, but they’re a bit like Yes; they don’t really swing.
10:42 - Peter plays the same melody as in Seven Hundred Elves :)

Could do without the seagull story, he got narky because everyone had stopped listening!
