  • Hey guys and welcome back yo the channel.
Its been a while sense i uploaded any content, although Im documenting lots of jobs, but post the COVID pandemic I have no time to edit the videos.
Power steering pump leaks are very common across all saabs, easy to do on some models and harder on others, this is a pump from a last generation V6 powered saab, famous for leaking from the front seal, second common leak is the inlet pipe oring, and less common to leak from the outlet fitting oring, so we are replacing these three.
There are two seals that you can be lucky to source from a matching VW pump, but these never go bad, the same pump was installed in some late 90s VWs and early 2000.
The front seal dimensions are 17x30x7mm.
The other o-rings are common sizes found in any oring kit, u can match these at the part store, i go with feeling and to make sure they fit and seal.
Cleanliness is the most important part of this job, clean the pump and all the part, i missed out to show the filter screen at the bottom of the valve, make sure it is very clean.
Inspect all the parts for scoring and abandon the pump if there are any.
Make sure the valve moves freely but snug and doesn't stick.
Finally, use your own method to extract the retaining clip, but make sure u reshape it if it got deformed and it must be snug to the shaft.
Finally, it is almost impossible to video The removal and installation of the pump, you have to remove the belt after you relieve the tensioner, remove the top air ducts and filter housing, And when u try to extract the pump u might have to wiggle the engine by a big pry bar to get enough clearance, If extra clearance was required, then support the engine by a jack and remove the right engine mount.
    Enjoy the video.

Are you based in the UK? My Saab has a throttle body fault and I'm trying to find someone who might be able to fix it...

ADVICE: Use a magnet to fish the two sockets you need to remove closest to the pulley. You can rotate it to give you access to each bolt. It’s tight so you’ll need a 13mm socket and a small ratchet. You’ll have just enough room to crack it.
There’s another bolt on the opposite side, you need to remove the air box, engine mount, engine bracket, throttle intake, and you’ll need to remove two Torx bolts to get the intake out of the way.
Once you do all of that, you’ll want to put hose clamps on the main hose that connects to the power steering pump and if you’re working on an 08+ like me, you’ll no longer be able to remove the radiator supports as they are welded on, instead you’ll have to remove the upper radiator hose. Keep a receptacle handy because it’s gonna get messy.
Only then can you pry something against the engine. Use a blanket of sorts to cushion the black crossmember above the radiator and then you’ll have just enough room to wiggle it out.
From there, you can rebuild the pump. What this video does NOT show is that there are TWO larger seals deep into the pump. The kit I purchased contained those too. Power Steering Pump Seal Kit For 2006-2015 VOLKSWAGEN Crafter (KYB Pump) on eBay but the kit is SK 8765. I replaced and rebuilt. Good luck, this sucks be it’s absolutely do-able. It just takes some patience and the right tools.

Thanks for sharing the removal process, this video created well before any kit was available. I now use the kits from eBay .

You can rebuild these pumps using a reseal kit from a 07-10 Saturn outlook or Suzuki XL7.

My car is a 2008 9-3 Aero Saab V6 turbo convertible - will this video work for reparing my power steering rack leak? I think it's coming from the bottom of the car. Guesing I need to replace the seal to the rack at bottom....any idea where I can find the correct seal kit ?? I really dont want to replace the entire power steering rack

Do you have any information about where I can find the rear gasket? I’ve searched the internet intensively but couldn’t find anything of the same shape. I did look up the VW power steering pump and I couldn’t find rebuild kits either. Thanks in advance!

Remove the air filter and air pluming front of the engine, support engine with a jack from underneath, remove right side engine mount, remove belt, loosen pump connections and bolts, pry against the engine pushing it to the back to have just enough space to pull the pump from the front side of the engine

So what would be the problem bcz i confirm noise is from the pump.
Also Do you know if there is any matching pump from another GM vehicle

    • @TheFlyingMechanicDIY
      @TheFlyingMechanicDIY  9 місяців тому

@@abuelzoz2009 there is no latching pump, noise could be wrong fluid, or damaged pump internals (usually if u run the pump low on fluid)
