Hi,
I am Jamila Musayeva, an international social etiquette consultant and the author of the books “Etiquette: the least you need to know” and “Afternoon Tea Etiquette.” If you wish to order the books, email info@jamilamusayeva.com or my website: jamilamusayeva.com/order-books
In this video, I talk about jewelry etiquette: everything you need to know about how to choose the right kind of metal and dimensions that suit your stature, complexion, lifestyle and profession and how to stack and layer jewelry pieces.
I will also address some of the most common etiquette rules regarding jewelry. At the end of the video, I will show you some of the most beautiful statement pieces kindly provided to me by the Bvglari boutique in Baku, Azerbaijan. So make sure to watch the video until the very end. The best is saved for last.
Many thanks to Bvlgari boutique in Baku for kindly providing their store as a shooting venue and for the beautiful jewelry pieces presented in the video.

Also, do not ask “is that real?” This so rude, it might be a very cheap knock-off, or a very expensive precious-material piece, either way, it’s not anyone else’s business. I was once approached by a stranger on the street who wanted to know what my bag cost, I was floored. It was only a decent leather bag, not a designer one, or expensive. One time, an acquaintance asked me at a restaurant dinner “is that a diamond watch!?”. I was so embarrassed in front of a lot of people. Some people save for years for, or inherit, a nice item, some wear inexpensive look-alikes, so what? I think this is a mostly-American, very tacky thing. I can say that, I’m American.
I had plenty of embarrassing moments outside the US, though. I own amber jewelry, and several times people said how nice it looked- "almost like the real stuff". Well, it IS real amber, that's why. Same for my gold bangles. "Only" 14ct, but real enough. ;-) I always smiled graciously and said, "It _should_ look real, because it IS." - People need to stop after, "Ooh, how pretty." ;-) :-D
IMO it’s perfectly fine to ask someone what their bag or jewelry, etc costs. Maybe they like it and want to buy it for themselves. I have no issue telling ppl how much something costs, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
Yup! On point! It also happens with latin and chilean people! 🤦🏻♀️ Inappropriate!
Unfortunate situation!
on personal thought, I do not see shame on wearing man created stones or cubic zirconia/swarovski crystals or custom jewelry. If you love a piece, brings you happiness or memories from a dear one, cheap or expensive and suits you, wear it with pride and love.
As annoying an impolite that question you were asked is, if it happens again just reply what it is quickly and graciously and change the subject of the conversation to deviate the attention from it.
Unfortunately not everyone has prudence or manners.
Just don't wear / use Branded fake items. 🤭 it's just a no no. If want use original or high class items, use original brands that one can afford as long it's not fake.
75% of the content was obvious to me, i was already applying these rules without knowing they are “rules”, but i still enjoyed the vid. It’s a pleasure to listen to her and those jewelleries are stunning ❤️
It's the same for everybody.
☺️🙏🏻

Thank you ❤
The founder of the Bulgari brand is Sotirios Voulgaris was actually greek. He was born in March 1857 and came from the Epirus Village of Paramythia, the center of silversmithing in the Balkans. . In 1881, Sotirios Bulgari moved to Rome and, in 1884, opened his first store on via Sistina 85. In 1905, he unveiled the Via Condotti shop that would become the company's flagship. In its early years, Bulgari was known for silver pieces that borrowed elements from Byzantine and Islamic art, later he was turned to Art Deco.
Thankyou for that history, its nice to know. Always interesting.
I love nothing more than a few strands of perfectly matched Mikimoto pearls. Where I live in the South, a girl’s first fine jewelry is often a strand of pearls given to her by her father on her birthday. If they belonged to her grandmother even better. Then her husband will give her a double strand or a pair of pearl earrings for her wedding.
Lovely tradition. Where in the South do you live?
@@JamilaMusayeva The Northshore of New Orleans
Yes, you are so right. Here In France it's almost the same tradition in upper class families : at the age of 16, the daughter receives her fist pearl necklace, and 2 pearl ear studs as well. When she's grown-up, parents of spouses will indeed add more; One things always remains true : you can never go wrong with a pearl necklace and ear studs, whatever the time of day and activity, and you keep elegant from 16 ... to 106 ! Also did you know that thieves are not keen on stealing pearl jewels ? They'll steal all the rest, diamonds, etc.. but will avoid pearls, because there's a superstition among them that it will bring bad luck , " the bad eye/ le mauvais oeil" onto them !
@@clementineclement5757 Make sense since we’re of French heritage. Louisiana is the only part of the US that has the Napoleonic code for our legal system unlike the rest of the country.
The rest of the country used to go by a chivalric system, before the central government put it's own system into place. This is really apparent in Old West and gangster movies (non mob).
What I love about being South Asian is all the beautiful bold jewelry. I own way more than I ever need haha I have an obnoxious collection. I always have a gold chain and a diamond nosepin on with the idea that even if I ever run out of time and I have to get dressed and leave, I still have something on!
So true. I'm always wearing a pair of dainty earrings and rings. They often look good with most outfit.
I went to Bulgari Jewelry store last week, the sales associate told me that he went to Italy for a biz trip. The most Bulgari jewelry sale in No.1 county is Singapore , and 2nd county is Japan. Thank you for sharing this necessary information about Jewelry Etiquette. The women improved themselves and improve living standards.🎉
Thanks for sharing this! I did not know it actually
Very interesting. I agree with you in everything and would like to add one thought: In the Corona period with masks and frequent hand washing, I do not take rings and earrings outside of the home. Brooches, (very pretty with cashmere sweaters or in combination with a plain-colored blouse) are making a comeback.
They are. You are right
Love brooches on long fall-winter coats too ✨
I stopped wearing rings since the pandemic, too!
I love the exclusive necklace, it's really beautiful. Thank you Jamila, and thank you to Bvlgari in Baku. :)
Thank you
I didn't know I've been following many of these Ettiquettes without even knowing. I'm grateful to you for this video. Please consider doing a video on your journey of becoming an Ettiquette teacher and opening your own kids gym.
Thank you .
I loved this video so much because I have been growing my interest in earrings and diamonds.
As an Indian, we wear very heavy jewellery for special occassions but I always follow only stacking 2 areas (like neck and wrist, or ears and fingers) as you mentioned!
Thank you, Jamila, for doing this video! :)
Thank you Jamila. It was interesting as always. Like you, I enjoy a more coherent look. I do not mix yellow and white gold, and I like to wear matching pieces from the same set together. It was new information to me that you should only wear 1 pearl piece at a time. When I got my pearls, I chose earing and a necklace that match so that I would wear them together. Had I known this before, I might have not limited myself to buying matching pieces only.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video that I almost passed! It answered all the questions I had about which pieces to wear and match. Thank you!
Very excited for this vid! I did have a coworker who wore a row yellow gold bangals on her right arm and silver or white gold set on her left. I absolutely loved it. It opened up the idea of on one arm white rings and bracelets and other yellow. I also love ecclectic bracelets. Its so exciting to see on others as well. It's mysterious because you can not take it all in as w simple elegant small delicate jewels which I also love haha. Third point I loved the massive rings Tilda Swinton wore in Io Sono L' amore. It seemed to be her only accessory in some scenes and I love that sometimes 1 bulky gorgeous ring is all you need. Definitely do not mix all of these styles though haha.
Thank you 💕☺️ am growing in my elegance journey because of your videos and Anne's🙏
Thank you
I enjoyed your video very much. Your soothing speech and cadence is meditative. I think your pronunciation of certain words is charming. We native English speakers understand you and the point of language is communication, which you do superbly! What a treat to see the Bvlgari pieces! The v is intentional.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful video. Those jewelry pieces are simply stunning! Thank you for great content you make for people like me on self development journey.
Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video!!! I absolutely love Bulgari, one of my favrorite jewelry brands!!!!
Thanks
Jamila, you look absolutely lovely! The dress, shoes, makeup and jewels look so exquisite on you. I feel this will inspire my wedding rehearsal look. But in all white - I feel like white women in black, and black women in white is just beautiful. Beautiful contrasts.
🔥THANKYOU JAMILA MUSAYEWA 🔥
LOVE FROM SRILANKA ♥️🙏🙏
🤩I learned a lot! Thanks Jamila 😊
You are welcome
Jamila💛 I love your dress!
I love yellow gold. I think look best on me. It does turn me away from wearing silver.
Thank you for much for this amazing video. It is always pleasure to listen to you. ❤️ Also you look amazing and the jewellery is just stunning.
🙏🏻
Beautiful video and amazing jewelry! Thank you for this advice!
Thank you
I enjoyed this video but wish example photos were given throughout for better memory retention of the concepts provided.
I normally do not listen to any advice of etiquette but this lady knows what she’s doing. Definitely applying all of this.😉
Mrs. Jamila, I'm so happy to find Portuguese subtitles for your videos. A hug from Brazil ❤
❤️🇧🇷
Hallo Jamila!
How nice you had the Idea of such Video! I enjoy!!!
While I'm doing this:
I vision you in something from Saphire with Brilliant and Emerald Influence, based on Rosegold Metal. Some big Ear Pendants maybe? 🤔 ❤❤❤
Jamily, could you consider making a video on charcuterie board etiquette? I have once been on Rosenthal event in Baku (Nizami Cinema), they were offering cheese with coffee beans and even feijoa gam, it was delicious and rare at the same time. Maybe it would be even nice to offer cheese with out nut confiture! Thanks!
Good idea!!
First rule : don’t order charcuterie board 😂😂
@@GildaDouglas It is already on the table when you are invited😅🤷🏻♀️
Great video Jamila, with love x
I was really looking forward to it. Thank you so much for your guidance ❣️. Ànd yes you are gorgeous
Thank you 🙏🏻

Thank you 😊
Excellent presentation as usual! You are radiant!
Thank you
Thank you so much ❤️
That was helpful ❤️
Thank you
Loved the video. You look stunning. I absolutely love your dress.
Thank you for this great video! I would add that no watch should be worn at black/white tight event or only precious/small watches.
I disagree about pearls, my favorite. I wear small pearl earrings with a simple pearl necklace all the time. All my pearl items are already “cut with” yellow gold elements, such as visible findings, beads or station-link chains, and are small and understated, even adding a simple pearl and gold bracelet is fine. I don’t like layers of those big, traditional “pearl” strands, though, it’s outdated. I used to buy white gold because my pro color analyst insisted, but I never enjoyed it, so I switched to yellow and am much happier with it. Now I want to replace my white gold items. I say, go with what you love, jewelry mistakes are so expensive!
How wonderful! Thank you for this video!
Thank you!
Thank you for the great content! ☺️
You are welcome
Loved every bit of it! ❤
Thank you
Thank you so much for the informative video, Jamila Musayeva! It is interesting to see that I have been unconsciously following some of these rules. May I ask if there are any etiquette rules when it come to wearing spectacles? Thank you once again! Love your videos so so so much! 💓
Thank you!
You are sooo beautiful and elegant. Thanks for your work ❤
I realized that silver fits both my skin tone and under tone since I have tan skin with a little cool tone .
i have always read that wedding and engagement rings don't count for ring and stacking rules, since you're sort of obligated to wear them, and i was wondering if you could speak to that.
it might be an outdated rule, or a peculiarity of Christian culture, since i know not all religions have such an emphasis on wedding and engagement rings, or even use them at all.
Absolutely brilliant video.. your speak very elegantly, you look beautiful with all the collection. I have found you by accidental browsing here and I am delighted that I did👍🏽 I am looking to buy a statement piece of jewellery for my 60th this year and I will surely visit Bulgari in my city London. Thank you
You are very welcome 🙏🏻
Let's appreciate the fact that she arranged all of these things!!! Love your videos keep up the good work!!👍
Thank you so much!!

Thanks ☺️
Jamila im here since the beginning, you are sooo soothing
Thank you 🙏🏻
Such an interesting video and beautiful jewellery pieces 😍
Thank you
I've read that if you are a woman who wears her wedding ring on the ring finger of the left hand, a "statement ring" can be worn on the index finger of the left hand.
I love your outfit. So elegant. I love to wear elegant clothes.
You always make me want to buy jewelry
So lovely, polite, soft, intelligent woman. It is a joy to watch her.
Thank you!
Your speech is charming, but I thought you would like to know that the last syllable of accessories (noun, pl.) rhymes with ease, not eyes, so it’s ak-ses-sor-ease. Now, in the verb form to accessorize, the last syllable does rhyme with eyes, so ak-ses-sor-eyes. That’s English, for you, it rarely makes perfect sense. Enjoyed the video, thanks🙂
I love this dress!!!
Thank you so much for this video
You are welcome
Thats profound , thank you Jam
You are welcome

Hi I’m new subscriber! I’m a yellow undertone, result of a very tanned puertorican mother and a 🇳🇴 father. I find that all metals look good. I’m petite. I like the noises that the bracelet makes when I’m doing light chores or driving a sports car
I am new subscriber here from Philippines . I love how you speak.
Thank you! Welcome to my channel
Thankyou, this was really helpful
Thank you!
I use to not like necklace because I use to think they don't look good on me but after try many time I finally known yellow gold with thin lace and small pendant look good on me more because I have a small body frame from face to bottom
Beautiful video, thank you!
You are welcome
I do believe our friends at Mikimoto would beg to differ in respect to your Pearl comments.
The length of the video may be longer than I usually like, but the high-quality content and her smooth voice kept me here.

Прекрасная Джамиля, Ты воплощение совершенства и красоты во всём, Спасибо тебе за вдохновение становиться лучше🌹🕊💗
Спасибо большое ☺️
So stunning!🌹
Thank you
I love it 😘
I love your feathered dress and nails . If I could humbly suggest looking at jewels made from Whitby Jet which is a black stone that would suit your immaculate style here
Thank you love bug for the video
Great one
Love the shoes.
Also, never lend your jewellery to anyone. I had a very pretty green-stone in yellow jewellery (earrings w/necklace costume jewellery set) which I gave my mother. One day my aunt (mum's cousin-in-law, asked my mother if she could borrow this set to wear & then she said she lost it & we never got it back. *So never never ever lend your jewellery to anyone, N-E-V-E-R.*
Very much enjoyed the educational video.
Thank you 🙏🏻
❤️❤️❤️ Well done!
