Its a street rod with a rusty body, you guys just don't get it, sorry, "A" for effort but real ratrods aren't built with store bought parts and a shop like a ladies kitchen, they are scrounged from junk piles and built on a greasy garage or even a dirt floor by talented backyard engineers
You are so right. That thing is laughable. Powder coated frame in real rust. My frame was painted with black paint from a farm supply store. They should go back to shiny cars.
I think Welder Up is in a class by itself. The stuff they build that you don't see is better than the cars they show. Some of their rides border on clown cars. Agreed he does have some pricy cars. I'm kind of a purist, rats are built buy working guys in their garage. Build for fun.

That panel over behind the seat positions, I’d cut out and use for space of things to come or need on the road. Great vlog, it’s still a hot rod that HAD TO BE BUILT. And I’d put one of the Chrysler 3.6 Ltr., v6, twin ohc, 296 hp, just to be different, and a good engine that doesn’t start with “LS SOMETHING”. My Chrysler van will burn the rubber if punched with the v6. It’s also compact.
See, that's not what rat rod means anymore. Like every other automotive fad, it is exploited by the rich and TV. It is completely contrary to the origins. Rat rods were just cars built with either money or motivation as the limiting factors.
I read this and wondered if the guys on Iron Trap Garage were watching it 14 years ago. Maybe some kids watching it now will take up the torch for Hot Rods.
Got to love these sponsored shows right where they have a team of pros all the time and money in the world because it's a big advertisement for tools and parts... It's neat to see something done the right way. on the other hand sometimes the jokes get stale and the presenters aren't the best personalities so the home built DIY vlog is also pleasurable.
The PCV valve is a smog device I like, it pulls bad vapors out of the crankcase before they condense into the oil, making the engine last longer between overhauls.
How to spend tens of thousands of dollars building a car thus defeating the whole purpose of building a rat rad. Sorry boys, it's not a rat rod just because you dropped a rusty body on $20,000 to $30.000 worth of parts! Try again!
Well when you build yours you can use an original chasis that has several rust holes and breaks from the weight of the body and the engine, everyone has there own opion of what looks good so stop telling leople what they should and should not build
@@garrettpolhamus3733 That's not my point at all. You can spend a million dollars building a rod. If you have the money, power to you!! @@joshslackslack8115 Thank you Josh. You actually get it! Cudos to you for building a real rat rod! Guys like you and I are an inspiration to the average person interested in building any type of project car. I too have built a street rod on a mini truck frame. I used an '85 Toyota pickup frame. It has won two awards and has been featured in two magazines as well as a front page news paper article. Like I said to garretpolhamus3733, I'm not just a wannabe.
I get it "Rat Rods" are built with used parts but this is how you pay the bills on a TV show like this. When advertisers are putting up 100% of the money you have to appease them with promoting their products.
Having just completed a build on a rat rod Jeepster, this is just about a half-inch away from a checkbook hotrod: at best, I would call it "rat rodesque."
Top Tip: Save your money until you find something you like, then change it to suit your taste. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. I would definitely NOT run a flathead. They are prone to overheat and be underpowered. Even a blown flathead makes as much power as a stock sbc. I used a '64 283 for a fraction of the costs of their flathead. My trans was a Muncie M-21.
I think the scrap body steel is worth more than regular scrap steel. It’s got something to do with steel made before nuclear weapons testing. The aerospace industry has a great need for non radioactive steel for special parts of aircraft. That’s why old navy ships have a higher scrap value.
We've been adked what color are uou gonna paint it. It is its satin black. Primer is hygroscopic. It can rust with primer on it. Thats why we use John Deere Blitze Black. Its implement paint. Its satin and seals out water. Can be mixed with lacquer thinner.

I jave a Winfield cam in my flatty with Eaton adjustable lifters. I also have a 4 bolt center main. The block is a later flathead. 53 I think.
All i needed to hear was roots style blower! Cut to the burnouts!
The PCV valve is a smog device I like, it pulls bad vapors out of the crankcase before they condense into the oil, making the engine last longer between overhauls.
It removes blowby it was actually an early smog control. It can create negative pressure in the crankcase.
500lbs for a roadster body. My whole car running weighs 1500.
Don't you have a tig welder?
I think the frame is rust color paint, not ratural rust.
