Today I complained to the manger of my local Peugeot garage about this ridiculous fandango just to replace an air filter. He laughed and said "Why make something easy when you can make it complicated ?!" This is in France ... Seriously tho', some sort of consumer watchdog should get on to cases like this and forbid manufacturers from designing engines which result in an hour's labour just to change an air filter, a regular maintenance part. The vid is 17'.38" long with numerous speeded up sections. So you can bank on 25mins for a pro to do this and the same again in reverse - there's your 1 hr labour charge to do a 10 sec filter change.

Thanks for that, I just had a "full service" done to my C4, and I doubt very much that they changed the air filter seeing how pernickety it is, so I basically paid €246+VAT for an oil change 🙄

If a garage has a set price for a service and the air filter is part of that service then it would have to be done regardless of the time it would take. We show how you can do it yourself so if you have the time and don't mind a little challenge then it's fun and rewarding to be able to say "I did it myself"

Thanks for that, I just had a "full service" done to my C4, and I doubt very much that they changed the air filter seeing how pernickety it is, so I basically paid €246+VAT for an oil change 🙄

i was thinking about buying one of these cars lol now i am shtting myself all this to change a air filter bet half the dealers would not bother fitting it would love to know the cost for this job
If a garage has a set price for a service and the air filter is part of that service then it would have to be done regardless of the time it would take.
We show how you can do it yourself so if you have the time and don't mind a little challenge then it's fun and rewarding to be able to say "I did it myself"

And Citroen have made this such a ball-ache that I'd be surprised if even a Main Dealer would actually bother, let alone an Independent on the feathery edge of profitability.
I'd go so far as to guess that every Citroen dealer and independent specialist has a dirty air filter on standby for if a customer says "show me the old part" for when they claim to have replaced it.... there must be thousands of C4s driving around with filthy 10yr old air filters.
Disclaimer: I have one of these and am constantly amazed how 'kin complex Citroen have made even the simplest task; try taking the battery out, for example!!! ....... Harry Dunne was right: The French ARE assholes!!!

Several others use this type of engine including Peugeot, Ford, Volvo, Suzuki, etc. It may not be as difficult in other brands

Citroën put the air , fuel filters, glow plug ,egr and starter motor behind the engine and sold it UK.
The airbox is a crap design with it being in an awkward spot and ive lost count on how many times ive heard a 1.6 HDI sound like a tank when the intake pipe is broken or loose.
It's not in the easiest to get places
