    Just received my Omtech 60W laser and new AC Infinity fan. This was the best upgrade tutorial I found anywhere on the internet. Thank you sir!!

    Thanks for sharing, I've had a Glowforge for over a year and I decided to get a real laser machine. I got the same one as you, just received it yesterday.

    Thank you for this I did the same thing. Wow it not only pulls everything out but it makes the laser so much quieter. I wish I did this 3 months ago.

    Nice detailed tutorial. I will be swapping out my fan tonight and relocating my air assist on the outside of the machine!! Thank you!

    Another great video. I did some serious research on placement of the fan. Seems for smoke etc you want the fan as far down the line as you can get it. One reason is at the end of the line it creates negative pressure to it's less likely to 'blow' smoke into a room if there was a hole or something.

    I mounted my external fan outside. Super quiet.
    Good design easy to clean.

    It is interesting your air assist is small and inside the body of the laser. Mine is this big compressor and outside of the laser. I have to put it on the floor! Also, my Chinese laser didn't come with a small fan inside like yours. Mine came with this noisy and massive industrial blower fan that look like it was made in the '70s. It seems your laser is a much better (updated) version than the one I got. I am so getting that external fan when mine dies. Its so much quieter!

      Yeah I got mine almost a year ago, they keep making these tiny changes every few months and changing parts

    I'm going to need this to real soon. Cutting the small test burn that is on the key chain, left a bunch of smoke in the main compartment.

      It’s a definite improvement. One day I’ll get around to upgrading the air assist and put that video out too.

    I'm looking... Is there any solid science for the requirement of taking the machine fan out? From what I've read, it can help get the smoke out of the cabinet... so I'm looking for a solid answer with the math to back it up...

    Great video! I know nothing about lasers this sounds very important.

      It’s great for moving fumes of out a shop especially if it’s inside the house or in a connected garage

    I would have thought that having the stock fan in series with the in-line exhaust fan would have resulted in higher air flow. So I'm curious why you think it is necessary to remove the stock fan?

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  7 місяців тому

      Stock fan doesn’t move as much air as the inline fan, so having it in place actually blocks the airflow of the inline fan and reduces its usefulness

    Thanks for the video. I've recently received my 80w (Black/Red) and installed my AC Infinity inline exhaust system. Next step will be to remove my stock exhaust as I see that all it is doing is hindering air flow. I see you are fairly new to the UA-cam world. I am as well. I'd be interested in collaborating on some things if that is something you'd be interested in. Feel free to contact me through my channel.

    Great video! Question, in an attempt to save a few bucks, if I do this upgrade, could I then reuse the red and black wires for my air assist upgrade? Just relocate the ends to proper #5 and #6 ports for v and "wind/air assist"?

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  Рік тому

      I’m not sure the gauge of those wires, so I can’t 100% say yes since it’s a different type of fan compared to the one inside the machine

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  Рік тому

      But Ace Hardware might have gauged wire you can buy in length Vs trying to buy a bundle

    Do you find that you still get a fair bit of smoke escaping? I'm trying to find out what I could be doing wrong or what else I can do to improve my situation here

      Way less than before, but the seams on the doors aren’t air tight so I’ve seen some people take a magnetic roll and cover the door slots and that helps

      Put the fan as far down the line as you can so it sucks in lue of blows...

    It looked like there was a plug right at the fan why did you not just unplug it and leave the wire to make the future reinstallation a little easier. Is there an issue with leaving wire in the machine when it’s being used?

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  2 роки тому +2

      It wasn’t actually a plug it was just the way the wires were bound together. Everything in this particular machine are just staring cable runs

  • @nigelf43
    @nigelf43 2 роки тому

    Is there a switch on the machine for the fan? If so I'm just wondering if the replacement in line fan could be connected to the existing wiring in the machine.

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  2 роки тому +1

      No it automatically comes on when the laser turns on and it has variable speed on it so not sure that would work with trying to wire it into the laser power system.

    Question so i know the arrow on the inline fan should be pointing towards your exit point and when you look inside the fan does that make the blades point towards the machine and the back of the blades point towards your exit point im trying to make sure it wasn't sent to me wrong

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  Рік тому

      without being in my garage to check i'd say the easiest way it to plug it in and see which way it's pushing the air out

    I have the same setup but there seems to be smoke trapped in the lid and when I open it the shop smells. I am thinking of installing two little fans to create air flow from right to left in the lid area to clear the smell faster . Any comment.

    • @vanstray
      @vanstray  Рік тому

      That might help. Sometimes I also cover the door seams on the front with flexible magnet strips so it creates a better seal in the machine so less smoke can seep out and the fan gets better pull
