While is not unheard of for a preacher's kids to go "bad" for a while, Abe is well past the teen rebellion stage. It is possible that Abe knows his father better than we do and that that has caused a rejection of God. His father's theology of Christian hedonism is full of holes that go opposite to biblical teaching. One is that John Piper does NOT see time spent with spouse and family as time spent serving God. He sees the congregation rather than the family as the basic unit of Christianity. To him Christian service is volunteering to serve the congregation and most importantly the Pastor's success. He repeats this teaching constantly in his Desiring God series. John P. sees time spent with spouse and family as a distraction from serving God rather than the average person's prime duty TO God. This is the result of that in his own house. He built his brand and lost his son.

I know that he is charismatic (which is unusual for a Calvinist. I am Calvinist, BTW). Nothing to break fellowship over, but that CAN be a slippery slope. Not very long ago, he shared his hyper pacifism in sermons, using as an example that if, Heaven forbid, he was the victim of a violent home invasion, he would not defend himself nor his family. 😳 Lastly (and this is NOT a biblical issue whatsoever) he has an odd belief that Christians should not own guns. As an owner of several guns, I honestly do not care at all if someone does or doesn’t own one, as a matter of fact, many friends of mine do not own any. Having said that, that is a strange thing to say or teach. I am guessing it stems from his pacifism.
I know most Reformers don’t believe that God can still supernaturally teach us in our lives but I had a sobering experience. God allowed me to hear hell this one time and it was absolutely mind blowing. I heard a multitude of people just crying out at the top of their voices (yet some were louder than others). There was this one woman in particular that was screaming so loud. I don’t know what she did when she was on earth but her pain was beyond the rest. I also had a sense that this place was in a cavern of some kind. They were all trapped there with absolutely no hope (and they knew it). While it was not said, you could sense that the general consensus of all the damned was “GET ME OUT OF THIS PLACE!” Even now when I think of it, I develop tears in my eyes. It’s a very real place, warn your love ones and let no soul go unprayed for!
It's either God's will be done or our own will be done. That's the choice. Seems Piper has made his choice and Hell is the end result of "having it his way." Or as C.S. Lewis once stated - “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, in the end, "Thy will be done." All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell.

I was friends with a rebellious son of a sweet hearted pastor. He despised his dad but when pressed on it wasn't able to say a single bad thing about him. My thoughts are that a lot of people want to use the world to fulfill all their passions and cravings for sex, drugs, power, and fame. They don't want to see brokenness as the result of sin, but the result of people and systems that keep them from enjoying their debauchery. I didn't grow up in the church but found it later in life when God chose me. Because of it I have spent a lot of time with those who live for debauchery. The Bible 100% understands what humans are, what motivates them, and what the results of their desires are.
It’s always interesting for me to examine the atheist, or whatever Abraham is, arguments; every single objection begins with a humanistic presupposition, not a biblical one. Hell is this place where God whips and lashes you BECAUSE a human understanding sees that as the worst kind of torture. God is insecure BECAUSE the human understanding sees itself as necessary, instead of seeing itself from God’s perspective.

No one seems to understand hell, Abraham just being the current exemplar of that misunderstanding. Hell is where evil gets the punishment it rightly deserves. We don’t like hell because we know we are evil. By saying hell is evil, we’re saying that punishing wickedness is evil. Well of course it’s good to punish wickedness… but I suppose we know better than God what wickedness really is.
Abraham Piper is just outwardly expressing, in his attention seeking way, what all people hold prior to God’s sovereign act of transforming a heart of stone & sin to a heart of flesh. He really, really reminds me of Ronald Reagan’s despicable son, in physical appearance, mannerisms and snide way of speaking.
Here's the part that people like Abraham Piper won't say (although they believe it). 1) They believe that God should just keep giving to them forever, getting nothing in return - not even respect. And they would never ask so much from anyone besides God. 2) They don't believe that the good things they have are due to the grace of God. They believe that they simply have them due to no one, and that they are entitled to them. And so they don't understand that Hell is the loss of everything that they never deserved and never appreciated as gifts from God. 3) They are so hubristic that they actually believe that they - with their limited knowledge and viewpoint - can argue right and wrong with a being who will never learn anything new, because there is nothing unknown to Him, and who sees all of the past, the present, and the whole future all at the same time. I mean, if you accept Abraham's shaky foundation then what he says makes perfect sense.
This Piper boy looks older than his father. Sin makes you age quicker. He is def not aging gracefully. Donno how long it's gonna take him to realise his beef is not with God, it's with his dad.
If a Parent of 117 billion children lost 99.99% of them to some serious sickos and their torture chamber, I would find it hard to justify that Parent's right and ability to raise children. Surely an all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving Parent could do better than the Deity described and defended by Doug Wilson.
Pastor Doug, thanks for this. What you expressed is the accurate articulation of what I believe the Bible teaches about hell, I think the point that Abraham is trying to make (albeit in a very snarky way) is that the way many Christians think about hell and at least the way they talk about it when they present the gospel, is probably more as the torture chamber threat to force a decision than as the "thy will be done" natural conclusion to a life spent running from God that C.S. Lewis describes. While this is absolutely a mischaracterization of what Christians actually believe, how many of us can articulate a biblical response to the criticisms he's throwing out? I've heard these arguments from many "intellectuals," and while most are not in good faith, it should also be a reproof to the church on the lack accurate knowledge of Biblical doctrine in the average church member.
Absolutely, we should pray for, and discipline our children. We should also keep in mind that they have free will, and they may choose to use their free will to turn against everything we taught them. Adam had the perfect father. Adam fell anyway.
Yes, pray for them and discipline them. Pray for yourself and discipline yourself as a parent. Don't be HARSH with your children. Spend TIME with them. Be intensely interested in what interests them. Treat them like Father GOD treats His children. The fruit of the Spirit should be nowhere more lavishly displayed than in our parenting.
@Jennifer Mugrage And if they get the impression that you are always against them or turn against you, you need to tear up their behind until they stop getting that impression.
"Douglas Wilson, a Reformed theologian and pastor, generally aligns with the Calvinistic perspective on double predestination. Double predestination is the belief that, before the foundation of the world, God has predestined some individuals for salvation (election) and others for eternal damnation (reprobation)." So, when he says that God is simply letting people choose to go wherever they want, he actually believes that God makes that choice for them
God does not need our love. His love is perfect and that is magnified and displayed on the cross. We do not know what perfect love is we only have a glimpse of it when we know the Gospel. God is the perfection of love before he created all things. Why would God need our love if His love was perfect in the trinity before He created us? If something is perfect it needs nothing else for it is perfect and complete. Praise the Lord for His enduring love and kindness towards us. Amen

When Abraham first denied Christ as a young man, his father John needed to step away from ministry. He didn’t. Disobedience has its consequences. The Church desperately needs to learn this lesson.

Poor Abraham! He is a simpleton so he’s sees everything through his simple mental lens. As God said to Job after allowing Satan to actually torture Job, God is the Creator of all things and can do what he wishes with His creation. Man is less than nothing when compared to God. God could send us all to eternal torture and be completely justified and perfectly righteous on doing so. God owes man nothing. But, God offered His own Son to satisfy man’s debt to God, and will one day restore the creation to perfection and God’s people will live in it in perfection eternally.
Hell is destruction NOT eternal torment. The wages of sin are death and the wicked will perish, be destroyed, and be no more. This is taught in the Old Testament at least 200 times and multiple times in the New Testament. Eternal life is a gift given to the righteous. Abraham Piper is right to reject a false view of God and of hell.
I think this is the main ossue and concern for christianity in general.. the fact that you need to even try to attempt to lighten, or fluff up the reality and clear horrific imagery the bible has painted as it is, portrays a real moral issue for hell itself, and a “good God” sending someone there. Imagine a beautiful young girl, mid twenties, had a horrific life from lets say... her upbringing until that time, then was sold into sex slavery, raped tortured and killed, only to wake up immediately in hell, solely on the fact she didnt know God existed, because she didnt beleive.... now i for one do not agree withthis as a former christian, as being morally acceptable, but you cannot deny that this one incidence i just explained, has not happened before... if God and the christian God is real.. it clearly shows how to get to heaven and how to get to hell, and there have been over 100 billion people to walk the earth, there are sure to be some other great examples then the one i just mentioned... now getting back to what i was saying about fluffing, or lightening hell, the reality is, it does not matter if u litterally beleive hell is u being tortored, arms being ripped off and growing back, theres a verse that does explain something like this, a body built for destruction, or u beleive hell is just what uve made up in your head, the fact is is it it atill horrible, and to send someone to a place , even the place you beleive hell is .. for eternity, for simply not beleiving, i think we could all agree is morally wrong... god says life is a gift, but how is it a gift when there is such a strong consequence of living it wrong? If u gave your daughter a gift, and said in order to receive this gift youned to obey me for the rest of your life, and then said oh honey, also if u dont accept this gift you die, now this would not be a gift at all, or ofyou gave her 2 gifts, and 1 gift had a bomb in it..... this is no longer a gift, in other words, the people in hell did not sign up for this life, they did not choose to live and end up like that, but if they knew the reality of what they “know now” assuming hell is real, then they would never have chosen to not beleive, or to live the way they did. Hell is morally rediculous either way, but to be quite honest your attempt to re invent hell, and what the bible already says it is, already shows you have a moral disagreement with it anyways
Seeing Abraham Piper say such things makes me love him even more and even more for Christ mercy on him to see the truth. It's unfortunate to see how hypocritical folks like that are with their own self defeating statements.
Listening to Abraham is a reminder that a prodigal is simply a ass for a season. The sooner we don’t pay attention to them, the quicker they can face their sin and hopefully their righteous God while on earth.
My children think I am stupid old woman too, when it comes to things of God. When I was lamenting, and asked aloud what I did wrong, the youngest, ironically, lovingly told me, "you did nothing wrong mum"! Perhaps she is right, after all, my unbelieving father did not make me an unbelieving daughter, I came to the Lord by God's power, not my parents.
No, hell is fire and brimstone in punishment for refusing to love and obey, (and come to Him on His amazingly generous terms) the God who made each person and the whole universe in order to demonstrate in full every aspect of his character, love, patience, mercy, sympathy, righteousness, holiness, justice, and wrath. Yes he gives us up to the result of our own sin, if we refuse to repent. But he also punishes us for each transgression in full, and also for the crime of putting our will above his. This is infinitely unjust and evil, therefore hell must be eternal, because no punishment could ever atone for it.

@@johnbreitmeier3268 Only thing is: whether he isn’t one of the elect is NOT in our purview of knowledge, this is God‘s domain. So we are called to keep praying, relying on our certain knowledge of God‘s grace and mercy. A Calvinist is not prevented from doing that.
@@Puma5 Puma, a couple of things:
1) We can certainly judge fruit as Jesus commanded us and clearly see that Abram Piper is NOT saved.
2) If God does the electing as Johnny Calvin wrongly thought, what on earth is he waiting for? Abe has been amply exposed to the gospel. He is of age. He is doing damage to the faith in a prominent position. there is no reason for God to wait if it lies ALL in His hands. If there is a lack it must be on Abe's part. Peter has stated that God wants everybody to come to salvation. Most just won't.
3) According to Calvinism, if God has already elected an unrepentant Abe, God will bring about Abe's salvation whether you pray or not or preach to him or not. So, by that logic while you can pray for him it would be pointless. Either you are asking God to do something He has already decided to do or you are even more foolishly asking God to do something He has already decided NOT to do. Either way you cannot influence a Calvinisticly sovereign God. This is one of the reasons we know Calvinism is nonsense.
Please do more of these . 👌🏽 . The youth that is on ticktok needs this. We need to share such videos 👏🏽
I think they need to be on tiktok
When the enemy cannot defeat you, he will oftentimes attack those closest to you, in attempt to destroy your reputation. Abraham needs fasting and prayer to overcome this pride.
Wonderful! So glad you are doing this -also this is a good reminder to keep Abraham in our prayers.
I cannot imagine how painful it is for John Piper to know his son has denied God. Very sad.
All I can think is: his behavior is a prime example of what hardening your heart is. How can he IGNORE everything he learned the first 20~30 years of his life and come up with the same Atheistic Dogma complete ignoramus villainizers of the false god of Atheism dictate.
This is the most heartbreaking situation to me as a parent.
Honestly his son's falling away may well be tied into John Piper's blurring Truth with worldly deception in his own doctrine. That said, we're all responsible for ourselves in the end.
@@jackjones3657 As a Reformed believer, I have wondered, at times, that exact thing. While I certainly wouldn’t call John Piper a false teacher, he’s taught and said some concerning things over the recent times.
@@jackjones3657 What are some of John Piper's "blurring truths" and deception that you speak of? Or some of the concerning things that he has taught in recent times?
I thought the most heartbreaking situation to you as a parent was the Buttigieg's adoption? Remember, you suggested that 'some corrupt agency likely coerced [the mother] into it for being "too poor"', and 'she was duped enough to choose a gay couple.' This is the excommunicated son of a Baptist making anti-evangelical tiktoks..
@@Apologia5 I don’t want to speak for Mr Jack Jones here, but I know that Piper has been a part of the Gospel Coalition, which has become increasingly, alarmingly vocal in wokeness, white guilt, social justice nonsense.
Lastly (and this is NOT a biblical issue whatsoever) he has an odd belief that Christians should not own guns. As an owner of several guns, I honestly do not care at all if someone does or doesn’t own one, as a matter of fact, many friends of mine do not own any. Having said that, that is a strange thing to say or teach. I am guessing it stems from his pacifism.
'Hell is the final destination point where we as sinner's become what we have been intent on becoming.' Pastor Wilson gives some great responses here!

Finally, someone responds!
Abraham must make his father cry every day! How sad his rebellion.
God is so secure that He commands us to love Him; that's good stuff here!
Love this man Doug Wilson
Let him go sir..we all choose..Jesus is the only one that can reach him
I know most Reformers don’t believe that God can still supernaturally teach us in our lives but I had a sobering experience.
Im so glad someone like you is finally covering this! Thank you pastor Doug!
Excellent correction and instruction on God and Hell. Abraham Piper is in need of a heart change and saving faith. May God pour His Holy Spirit on him and bring that to fruition.
Thank you so much for doing this. This gives me encouragement to know that you have addressed every one of his false assumptions about God and are willing to help others see it as well. We pray that the Lord would open his eyes for the truth of who God is and who he is according to God. May God have mercy on his soul.
How would you know if they are false or not?
Short and sweet commentary. This video would take Dr James White 30 mins to comment on. 😂 I do enjoy his long commentaries though.
Dr white is awesome. He can slurp vinegar like a boss, even 15%, with a single ice cube.🥃
I was a version of Abraham, I grew up in a southern Baptist church. I was also led astray by Alan Watts. I pray for him to be reconciled to God and his father
If you suffer all your life without understanding or reason..see the torment of the world and never hear or feel the presence of God..
It's an understandable feeling..
And then most ( Christians) will tell you it's because you do not know God and he will not hear you because you're a sinner
I feel really sorry for his family. I’m sure they pray for him unceasingly. John Piper seems like a tender hearted man. I don’t see how his son could hate him this much. Even in clips of Abraham as a much younger man, he seemed very bitter. I’m sure a lot of people are praying for his repentance.
Excellent content, God bless Pastor Doug!

Abe Piper hasn't left his rebellious 90s grunge phase yet.
I would really like to see both men sit down and have an exchange that is friendly and respectful of each other .
I don’t know that Piper even believes what he’s saying. I feel like there is something underneath all this. Anger , frustration at Dad and God for an unmet expectation? Idk just a thought
That’s my impression- he’s angry upset...
Oh, yeah! It's all there. The devil will use everything and anything to turn a young man into one of his slaves. But in the end God will be victorious. Abraham will bow and praise the name of the Lord Jesus and with him many will turn. 🙏
That he's blinded by simple reasoning...he needs prayer
Agreed!👏 he is clearly angry at his father and taking it out on God as his father represents what God stands for in his eyes...
Yeah that's right on... You can tell by his expression that he doesn't believe what he's saying that he simply just mocking because he's angry.
4:40 That bit about who would be God’s therapist was so on point. God bless.
I love P. Doug’s stuff, even though I am emphatically not a Calvinist. That being said I love how he took wrath here as a “turning over.” Many Fathers understood it that way and I think Scripture predominantly reveals it that way also.
Abraham Piper is on the level of an edgy teenager rebelling from a parent for the first time.
These are great Doug. I really hope you'll do more interactions with what A.P. has said.
What do they say the two principles of atheism are?
-God doesn’t exist
-and I hate him.
A fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
Please tell me these responses will become a new regular part of Canon Press? (: Good stuff
This Piper boy looks older than his father. Sin makes you age quicker. He is def not aging gracefully.
Donno how long it's gonna take him to realise his beef is not with God, it's with his dad.
If Paulie Shore, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Keanu Reeves had a baby it would be Abraham Piper.
The desperation in your voice is quite funny.

This is the first video of yours I actually like. Most others i hate.
Luke 15:11-32
This is heartbreaking.
I'll never understand why people spend so much of their time talking about someone they don't believe to exist.
Because millions of people do believe in the existence of gods, and in turn, many of you expect the rest of us to live by your religious beliefs.
For $
Pastor Doug, thanks for this.
It is odd to see the likeness of John Piper spouting things that John Piper would abhor. Pray for and discipline your children folks!

Could you do a take on Rabbi Tovia Singer? I’d be interested to hear some of your responses.
"Douglas Wilson, a Reformed theologian and pastor, generally aligns with the Calvinistic perspective on double predestination. Double predestination is the belief that, before the foundation of the world, God has predestined some individuals for salvation (election) and others for eternal damnation (reprobation)." So, when he says that God is simply letting people choose to go wherever they want, he actually believes that God makes that choice for them
Such a powerful statement. "God is so secure that He is a able to tell us, unless we love Him we are going to be eternally miserable."
Amen

Pastor Doug, Would it be disrespectful if christians praise God for causing Abraham Piper to mock God and the Bible?
Please explain. I’m confused.
Well said. Love you brother.
When Abraham first denied Christ as a young man, his father John needed to step away from ministry. He didn’t. Disobedience has its consequences. The Church desperately needs to learn this lesson.
@Rick Destree
WHERE is it in Scripture that a Pastor has to "step away" when a child misbehaves? It's not in my Bible. They ARE to have their family in line, but there is nothing about them stepping away at all concerning that. Ya can't make up your own version of Scripture.

The qualifications for eldership/ pastoral ministry found in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3 are nonnegotiable. If a man does not meet all of them, he cannot function in the Office of Elder/Pastor. As an elder myself I have had to regularly evaluate my own life in light of Scripture.

"... and now we're doing stuff on tiktok. Good grief ." 🤣🤣
Great stuff. Hope to see more.

Concerning the Bible condemns "therapists" and all Psychiatry and such, it wouldn't happen, but I digress.
Hell is God saying to the lost sinner, " Your will be done."
