Sadly I spoiled my Son and now that he’s almost 18 I am paying the price. Wish I hadn’t listened to therapeutic goo. Please listen to this sermon for the sake of your children. God bless.

Just had this discussion yesterday with my wife and daughter about how psychologized our culture is. Psychology and Psychiatry is steeped in naturalism.

There is no act as craven as a big person striking a little person who is in his care. It is the essence of evil.

As a catholic, I've learnt that a sin has only been committed if the person previously understood such action as a sin. When talking to really small children that still can't understand complex explanations, isn't it fair to simply look at them in the eye and say "you don't yet understand, so you need to trust mommy and don't do this again"? My parents have never beaten me, but whenever I saw them disappointed about something I did it would teach me a lesson way harder than any rod would. Couldn't this be a non-literal way to understand the validation of child correction in the Bible? Afterall, repent generates physical pain in the heart without the need of any level of spanking.

Yes, I totally agree. I’m a child therapist and a Christian and yes, you are absolutely right because when we assume children “know” what they are doing when they misbehave, we are more likely to over punish them and become unjust with them because we see intention, motivation and adult understanding in their actions, which the don’t have.
In fact, if God was judging us that way, then we all be going to hell and there wouldn’t be any need for salvation, for Christ, and the cross would make no sense.
God knows EVEN WE as adults not always understand fully what we are doing and that even when we want to obey we can’t. He has compassion and grace with us. So we have to have give the same compassion to our children. ❤

@@araci88 Happy to see a child therapist agreeing with my interpretation, as you surely have more understanding of child pain than the majority of us 🥰 I can only speak of my own experience with my parents, afterall~
May God enlighten our actions towards children with the same love and compassion He dedicates to us as adults 🙏🏻🩵

I think psych has some benefits if rooted in a Christian environment. We get to better study the “how’s” and “whys” behind certain sins with science

Just as long as you don't turn into Focus on the Family - textbook example of psychological Christianity departing from scripture.
