Flying far and in exceptional comfort is all well and good, but not if you can’t land at all the airports you need to reach. This is why Dassault’s latest Falcon 8X jet has been developed to be need minimal runway space to touch down on. AIN editor-in-chief Matt Thurber had the chance to test the aircraft’s short field performance for himself when he went flying with Dassault test pilots. The scenery in France and Switzerland was breath-taking, but so too was the Falcon 8X’s performance.

It's a Dassault... I wouldn't expect anything less. Great aircraft manufacturer.
I am praying that Dassault soon announces a competitor to the G700 and Global 7500. A jet of that size and capabilities, with the signature falcon tri-jet and silhouette, perfection!
Oh what a dream that would be!
The G700 quoted field performance is 6250ft take off!! Distances are getting ridiculous. Many want private jets because of the convenience to land at smaller runways. Dassault have always (I hope they continue) to buck the trend and aim for short field performance.
@@3204clivesinclair the global 7500 can do 5,800ft.....AT MTOW. I Work for Bombardier so im bias but it's very impressive
Clive Sinclair There are MANY categories of “private” jets. Light jets with less fuel, passengers and range give you shorter field capabilities. Large, heavy jets need more runway space.
@@JDJD-mw9rr you guys need to figure out how high lift devices work. But that's not your business model
This is the solution to my travel problems. Which now raises many other hurdles.
Love this airplane. The fighter plane heritage is something other jets can't match. And it shows in this jet and other of its kind. Love this jet allot. Well done Dassault.
Gulfstream is owned by General Dynamics so they also have a military heritage
the falcon 50 is a truly business fighter
It will only take one engine explosion to ground this plane forever. 3 engines closely together is an engine failure led disaster in waiting. One explosive engine failure will take out the hydraulic lines to the tail planes and rudder. Will possibly ignite an adjacent engine. will possibly destroy control input to remaining engines. DON'T TAKE YOUR FAMILY ON THIS AIRCRAFT.

Jack Rainbow relax, it’s not a DC-10
I felt that landing.
Right?
Expected it to be greased and it WASN'T.
Love the look of a tri-jet. These days they all have two.
I've watched this a dozen times, and It's always the same...... Awesome!
I really enjoyed the video, a plane that size able to land on a short runway like that great. Just shows you the quality of Dassault Aircraft.
Beautiful looking jet!
Dassault founder was always telling this, a good airplane is a beautiful airplane ! Its way to tell that everythings is good when Its perfection arrives till Its style/design.
Good lord, a large jet landed in that distance without a tailhook.
Great video of this incredible jet
beautiful airplane...landing distance is A~mazing!!! ..... from seoul
This plane looks and flies like a dream, I have to get me one of theses some day.
Truly the best!
Great presentation, this looks like a great aircraft for international travel. I am totally liking the tri-jet configuration.
I'll have one of those. Thanks
Maravilloso Avión!!!. Felicitaciones Dassault!!!.
Great plane!
That's pretty darn impressive

Pretty plane!
I was surprised to see that plane at Vatry, just drove by the airport...
Rich families prefer 3 engines for safety.
I have already seen a rich family on tv buying a dassault 3 engines because the father was anxious for his family with 2 engines. That ´s right a lot of poeple / families don't care about number of engines.
@@stephen10. huh ...then in that case all passenger crafts must have ten
I know right... That's why we got a 4 cylinder mini cooper verses the 3. Extra security.
Name the last time Boeing or Airbus designed a three engine airplane? Oh and by the way the most recent design from falcon will have two engines also. Three engines are antiquated.
Truly rich families fly the BBJ.

Can somebody name the song that starts at 2:00?
Can it get in and out of Mountain Air, North Carolina?
Nice , but what was her fuel load a gross weight ?
i am trying to see if this could land at Kapalua Airport
3:44 seems to be a hard landing.
A scale sized L1011 Tristar. Based on a great plane.
How will they be able to take off from that runway? Doesn’t the aircraft require somewhere near 5500 ft of runway for take off?
Correct me if I’m wrong
Was the 8X made to compete with G600?
Honestly I am just happy it doesn't have those hideous Gulfstream oval windows...
hideous? they are big as fuck. must be great looking out of them
I hate the way they look too
@@JDJD-mw9rr love them ................
Gulfstream is just big on big everything. Grandeous for the mission requirement, except ironically the line they purchased from IAI the G100, G150

if i get so much money i will def buy such a private jet
AND YOU WONDER WHY THE"RAFALE"IS A MARVEL.....????
Zak Giffgaff worst fighter . Here comes the troll .
And the concorde was a very capable aircraft that did crash because of a DC-10 that lose a part .
If it's a " marvel ", please, lets have it go in a live firefight against an F22.
@Zak Giffgaff The SAAB Gripen and Dassault Rafale are among the top fighter jets in the world, with the Gripen offering unmatched performance and capabilities for the buck
And the Concorde crash of 2000 was due to poor maintenance of a Continental DC-10, of which a chunk of metal fell off onto the runway, and led to the Concorde running over it causing the tire to puncture and parts of it causing the engines to explode.
Either you are a troll or your knowledge in aviation is laughably abysmal.
Zak Giffgaff Trust the guy who cannot even write Rafale properly.
Jeremy H. Equality against a f22 ;-)
Loved how he planted it on the runway. It wasn't the time to finesse the touchdown. As the french says "l'atterissage c'est la science des ânes"
👍🏼
slip it In. ... Hmm. Mike from Adelaide.
Do the computer systems keep track of short landings and adjust brake maintenance accordingly?
Non
This is a nice plane now really nice but what can you say it's a falcon
Test the stopping distance at load capacity! Then make the video again.
So gulfstream 650er and bombrdier7500 cant do like this short landing in small runway?
The Falcon 8x/7x has the best short field performance than the two you mentioned. Whether the 650ER/7500 can land in that particular airfield will require a look at their landing performance data but I'm quite sure the 7500 has a better landing performance than the 650ER due to the 7500's wing slats resulting in lower landing speeds.
Global 7500 can land using only 1380 feet of runway. Don’t be confused.. the 8x is outclassed, but the 9x is coming. Don’t worry.
The Global 7500 is at the top at the moment
This plane can probably land on an aircraft carrier
How are they going to take off from a 1km runway since takeoff distance is 1.8 km?
when can I fly one ?
I will make enough money to afford a jet made by Dassault someday
yes yes and yes same here
That day wil probably come in 30 or 40 years because this thing costs 55 millions bucks

Perfect for short landings and take off in drug cartels!!
Really smart of them to be thinking about their clients
Hahaha
Lol
Stupid comment, produced by a brain like a blank page book.
more like their clients can land at moutain airport (chamonix 1700ft) so they can go skying or land in small rural aerodrome so they can go to their country club.
Flying is safer than driving ; do you applaud at the end of a car trip ?
It depends on who is driving and what type of car is used. I had an opportunity to ride in a Bugatti last week under full acceleration for a while, and.... yeah, I applauded when I got out, after I caught my breath!!
If Stevie Wonder id driving
It is mostly an American thing. Europeans don't do that outside of special flights. Sometimes you can hear a few Americans clapping alone on an European flight, but that's the most I've seen.
japanese bullet trains are the safest form of transportation... no need for clapping there.
psychiatry is eugenics do you fly twice a day, everyday? People are just nervous since they're not used to it.
2:51 There are NO aerodromes in Switzerland (or any country outside of the USA) of which the declared runway lengths are expressed as feet and inches. METRES please!
@@TheOwenMajor I am not European you dunce hat . . .
2:57 it shows the meters at the middle bottom of the screen. The numbers do flash up where you can clearly see them. All else fails just multiply .3048 times how ever many feet. 3458feet X .03048meters=1054meters. Looking at the runway it is at the end next to the taxi way. 3,458 feet and 1,054m.
@@TRPGpilot Not trying to be rude but who needs to multiply??? "LOOK" at the freaking screen!!!!! The meters are right there in plain sight. Can you not see 1054 M????? You must be one uptight helpless individual who just enjoys complaining. Hope things get better for you. Have a nice day dude.
@@TRPGpilot Minority of what?? You are the "ONLY" one being negative in all these post about this aircraft. If there is a minority, then it is you being negative. Be positive and thank me for pointing out that the meters have been there on the screen for you to see all along. By the way I am not that smart, but smart enough that I use both systems and do these simple conversions in my head, but then again what do I know. I am not the one complaining here.

Not the same size, but the Pilatus PC-24 don't even need a paved runway.
Little known fact, but the 8X doesn’t either.
@@dufonrafal He is not designed to. The PC-24 is.

I'm waiting for your video ;)
Unless an emergency, landing data is not as relevant as take-off data, that is, if you want to go places..
So you land on 700m, how do you leave? Take the bus?
Dassault Falcon 8X Take-off BFL 6,000 ft /1,829 m
Landing 656 m 2,150 / ft 656 m
Pilatus PC-24 Take-off BFL(MTOW, sea level, dry paved runway) 2,930 ft / 893 m
Landing distance over 50 ft (15 m) obstacle(MLW, sea level, dry paved runway)
2,375 ft 724 m. Plus it can do it on an unpaved strip.
mr smith That's a question i'm asking to myself as well... except getting rid of the BFL concept I don't see how.
i hate people bringing up pilatus pc 24 that is like comparing
a sportscar to a stretch hummer limousine the falcon cabin is 70 ish cm wider and more than twice as long .
and the unpaved strip thing every damn time i have to remind people that all falcons are designed for unpaved runways
they just dont make a big deal out of it .
for the takeoff do not worry about it around 800-900 meters is plenty enough when fully loaded
but lets say half fuel , 4 pax or less and really letting it rip 600 ish meters
It just needs to be the size of a md80 and it would be perfect ;)
or put new engines on the MD-80
There was a Dassault project like that in the Eighties, but it didn’t go through.
I noticed a hard landing here.
You noticed a precision landing to avoid floating and lose LDA.
Good airplane but also a great pilot....no much margin for error.
its a beauty but i think that a 3rd engine is not necessary
Please enlighten us on your expert qualifications, perhaps where you obtained your aeronautical degree for a start . . . .

Is the lust over this jet a sin?? Dammit !! It is......sob......sob...
JD/82ND
Good Lord! Where are the fuel tanks?
Metric et mètres si'il vous plait !
Very nice airplane but the performance is easily matched by the Bombardier Global line. The only real advantage the 8X has is the smaller visual footprint. Some public companies are wary of optics.
Making short field landings are relatively easy if you don't mins abusing the brakes and tires. You make landings like this very often and the cost of changing brakes and tires could be amazing to say the least. Not denigrating the airplane, am sure it is amazing, but these landings are not normal for any airplane. The Boeing 727, pound for pound, had the best brakes I ever used in any airplane, including the 747. But either airplane, depending upon weight, could make very short landings but you had to wait on the ground 45-60 minutes for the brakes to cool enough to take off again. Obviously, these are much heavier planes than a corporate jet but the principals are the same. I could go on but mercifully I won't. LOL
Hard landing
Oh yeah can she operate on a 3000 foot runway or 3500

Any plane can land short, but only once...
