  • A first look at Martyn's Rover 45 CVT IXS and use the cars similarities to compare the differences and what Project Drive did but also what was added later and why a MK2.. is just a 45. Not a piece of rubbish.

Excellent & interesting comparison. Good to see that one with double the mileage of yours drives very similarly, a testimony to good maintenance and original build quality.
I fitted the bonnet sound deadening piece to my 03 plate Mk1 45 from a pre PD car and noticed a big difference straight away.

Really enjoyed driving Beatrix on that very sunny morning. It was pleasing that both cars felt so similar to drive.

Ohhhhhhh a wonderful comparison. I'm a big fan of 45 autos and genuinely not sure which I'd choose there. Maybe the mk2 just for the digital air con. But only just.

Cheers buddy! They both have their credits and unlike what people generically say about the gulf in quality... there's so little difference and it's not just me who thinks this as this video shows!

Interesting comparison and how similar and different the mk1 and mk2 45s are. Thanks for a great comparison.

Forgive me for being old fashioned Andrew but i prefer the earlier interior with the walnut finish and door Garnish rails and deeper seats and real carpet and the colour interior options and chrome bumper inserts earlier grill(Full chrome one on mine) front fogs-- I could go on! I did have a series 2 with the cheapened up interior no garnish rails etc.I swapped the door casings and dash for walnut one.The ride was harsher on the 03 one i had and there was no anti-roll bar at rear..

Everyone has their preference and old-school interior is more classy in a 'Rover' way. The MK2 is more modern-looking and therefore losses that ambiance.

The first thing anyone should do is take those hideous arch lips off the rear arches, they trap moisture and dirt causing the arches to rust badly overtime. The MK1 interior is definitely a spitting image of the 6th gen Civic 5dr (96-00) interior which is no bad thing at all as the 6th gen civics are great well built cars. I do find the MK2 a bit odd at the rear without the number plate in the bootlid but I know it was to freshen up with the spaced rover letters. Fair play for Rover to hang onto the design for soo long despite a few changes.

The arch lips? I've rarely seen a 45 rust badly in that department so that's news to my ears, definitely not hideous in my book. The interior is absolutely Honda Civic with some wood splattered on but still has a quality feel and look to it for predominantly a mid-90s interior!

@@usuallyfixingtinkering Hondas have that issue with the arch rubbers trapping in all sorts, most are removed by enthusiasts and the arches have survived. I would throw them away unless it’s a pure dry weather car. It’s widely noted on social media and forums.

I reckon that's a Honda Civic issue not a Rover one, Rover I think did something different with the body protection

@@usuallyfixingtinkering as a Honda owner, and one of many over the years, I can confirm Honda offered 0 rust protection from factory, It’s up to you to look after it. Brilliant engineering though.

Absolutey spot on... I wonder whether thats why a Honda Civic MK6 is a much harder spot despite being made way more than the equivalent 400/45!

id say things you like about prefacelift, you could fit to yours but at the same time not original to the car, my focus is no longer original, yes its got ford parts on it, was never sold with them
