These geeky videos are up my street. I have a 04 TDCI sport and payed £180 road fund last year. When it was new that would have been £120. Really are trying to price these beautiful motors from the road as in agenda 2030, like you mention that’s electric cars or carbon net zero.
The TDDI post 2002 is a rare car as the TDCI came out and was cleaner quicker and cheaper to run.
Thats the aim to get us off the road or just get more tax, either way its a pain
Oh my god. The tax system is a mess. Only £90 difference in tax between my 2005 100bhp 1.6 focus and 1998 220bhp Fiat Coupe 2.0 turbo. It's mad.
The mk1 focus won't be the only car to be split by the 1st March 2001 date. A mk4 vauxhall astra, mk4 vw golf, mk1 Ford Ka immediately spring to my mind.
That is a valid point and depending on engine size some models with certain engines will do better on one-side of the pond than the other. This will have a big effect on numbers going forward, hence the reason for the video.
What they don’t take into account is E5 & E10 petrol which reduces overall levels of Co2 so the levels would be less than what the have recorded on the V5
It depends whether you believe that fuel makes any difference! On these cars I don't believe it does.
The government can do one, it won’t make no difference to me as I enjoy my car and worth every penny of the high tax bracket. I own a Honda S2000 which used to be £165 to tax back in 2005 and now it’s £395 currently, do I care? No! Because as you say, if you love your car, you will pay the tax.
On the other hand, my MK2.5 Focus 1.6 daily on a 2010 plate is quite a lot for what it is, and probably still increase year by year, may need to evaluate on that if it gets too much. Good point on the 2.0 manuals/autos being £415 which is crazy, this will certainly make people re think about keeping them on the roads which is a real shame, we want more older cars than the new modern stuff which have no personality and just white goods. I respect those with the older cars to keep them on the roads and pay the expenses needed, we all know VED don’t go towards anything they are meant for and values are plucked out of a hat. They make no sense most of the time. Good info on this video for those who need it.
Absolutely if you love your car you will just pay and live with it, it's if your having doubts anyhow which can lead to moving a car on
I have never understood why we have Road Tax which is now Vehicle Excise Duty base on emissions (so sitting on a road is not the taxable problem surely?). We already have a very robust taxation measure on fuel, with huge duty and then 20% VAT added on just to rub it in.
The whole VED system is purely there with totally insane rules just to provide employment to swathes of public sector staff over in Swansea.
Don't get me onto ULEZ...
It,s just a money making for the government they want you to drive electric vehicles but when you do they will still charge you because they need the revenue even though your saving the environment it,s all b,s.
Agreed, on fuel duty it's alread "pay as you go", more fuel therefore more tax. So why do we need to pay road tax again! Whole thing needs an overhaul in the way we pay tax.
i have a 1990 Escort before special date and a 1.6 focus £255 a year, my first car a 1L corsa and 1.6 mk2 tdci (really a peugeot HDI) was at £30 now 35
Its pretty expensive when comparing.

It's weird. What I find for TDDI is 131g per km, because in my country there is tax when you buy car based in co2 and officially tddi is 131. Also, was in UK 55kw (75hp?) and 66kw 90HP versions? Is tax same for both? because less power, less pollution? EDIT: 131co is because in my country before 2014 they calculate by weight and power and that puts me in cheapest bracket so far..
Nope its just based on CO2 after that date, power is irrelevant as cars are mapped to meet a certain bracket!
Ved system is a mess , surely for ice vehicles it doesn’t need to be before or after dates , just standardise the rates or put it onto fuel and scrap it and for electric vehicles just have it for them

Is there a difference in tax between the 3 door and 5 door versions with same engine and gearbox? I was looking at a car for sale just recently, Y reg same as my 3 door I did I vehicle check like I always do and noticed that the road tax was more expensive. I it’s a 1.6 manual Zetec like mine it was registered the day after mine, mine is March 22nd 2001 the other one March 23rd 2001. It is a 5 door and that seems to the only difference with the exception of a few optional extras and the colour. My car is band G at £255 and the other one is band H at £305. Any ideas why?
I have this theory that the 5-doors weigh slightly more enough to put it in band H in this case! If it weighs more, more CO2 per KM

£400 is nothing compared to some of the average bills on MK1's, I wouldn't let the tax price put people off unless it has to be taxed for 12 months and can't be sorned for a few months here and there!
