I would say Hondas have brilliant air con’s. My 19 year old Honda still blows out ice cold even with the roof off. It’s great. Definitely agree people need to use their A/C as much as possible due to wear if you don’t, I think people are frightened because of the fuel consumption and rather the windows open but what people don’t realise is you use more fuel with the window open than using the A/C.

I think the window open vs air con in terms of fuel consumption is an unproven test and so many variables to that, it would be interesting!

That sensor that is near windscreen is sun sensor. Idea is that it will compensate heating sun to make it comfortable. In my manual ac focus it is problem because you find ok temperature then sun comes from cloud and you need lover temp. There should near ac console small grill for temp sensor itself for cabin for keeping temp that you set. Also if system was dry for long time there is danger that moisture will be started corrosion from inside (that what my ac guy said when i was fixing it). And lastly it was empty for reason, You may have tiny leak that next season it will not cool anymore (that is most common scenario). And lastly, Welcome to AC club lol :D

That is the danger that surface rust will have started in the pipework being mainly empty for a few years but I wont know until I start getting leaks and I can report none at all, still very cold after 2 weeks since filming this episode. It was empty because it had been sitting a long time which means the gas will have escaped, usually 3-4 years is enough time for gas to escape to affect the air con temperature, plus whatever was in the system I took out when I did the head. I am enjoyed the AC club, hopefully for longer :)

Lovely to have your A/C working properly.
As your 45 was laid up unused for a while before you got it, the gas could have escaped by not being circulated.
If its still working and fridge cold in 2 months that'll pretty much tell you there's no leaks 👍

Thanks Neil I'm hoping so - it's been 2 weeks without any noticeable change in coldness! I suspect its just slowly leaked out at least over the 2 years its been stood and the last 18 months I've owned the car before looking at it.

The aircon in my mk1 focus and mk7 fiesta is so delightful especially on hotter days. Both work great. I usually aim to.use air con even in winter at least once a month for 30 minutes at least to keep it working.

thats exactly how the guy said to use an air con to prevent leaks and problems!

Don't want to be a mood hoover as in a similar position. But have had the mobile guys out, everything recharged ok, wondered why the compressor is on when it should be off and 3 days later ac gas has gone. New when I opened the door on day 3 can smell the gas as it smells like Cow Pat..

Oh gosh that's so frustrating - they haven't done it properly or put gas in when there is a clear leak and not a small one. That sounds like a condensor to me!

Don't blame you not trusting garages thats why I work on my own cars that's why I stick to older cars you do worry alot that was a good price when coming to your door and sort it out for you 🙂

You may be surprised. It may need a new condenser which tends to be the weak point
