I always loved Waiting for the punchline. It has this raw sound that became Nuno new sound in 1995. He kind of took more vintage approach to his guitar sound, more Hendrix sounding. He stick to this sound from 1995 till now. I guess he really likes it .And lyrics on this album are really incredible.
My God this solo... !!!! Nuno is the greatest and the most novative guitarist I know. Some are more technical, but Nuno just has everything : the sound, the phrase, the melodic touch, the gimmick thing, the sensitivity, the inventivity...
Gary did this song at NAMM in 2003, but it was with Tribe of Judah, his band after Van Halen. I have the entire show in video & audio, shot by yours truly. Totally blew me away when they did it as it's my favorite Extreme song.
Man, can't wait for them to come to HOLLAND, and to hear the new album. I just missed them in 1991 when they came, so I've been waiting for like 17 years now...never thought the day would come!! this is so awesome, EXTREME is still the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From such a religious album as III Sides to a very Nietzsche inspired album like Waiting For The Punchline... Extreme really bet high on the new concept and sound but, sadly, the critics had no mercy with them. In my humble opinion, one masterpiece of an album, completely ahead of its time. But I guess the Nietzsche influence must have alienated a lot of fans.
Yea! I am so happy Extreme is back:) Now new fans will get their chance to see Extreme in action. p.s. I am very happy Nuno's hair is comming back!!!!!
I was beside you when you were recording this, it was a great concert. I have some soundcheck and backstage footage I will post. Check out my posts as well. Cheers
Great song and album. Despite the title, this is not an anti-God song. It is quite the opposite. Gary Cherone is outspoken Christian. Listen lyrics carefully.
1 Corinthians 15:1 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 1 Corinthians 15:2 - By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:3 - For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15:4 - And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Acts 16:30 - And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be Saved? Acts 16:31 - And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy House. /
My #1 favorite Extreme song
