Fantastic. Thanks so much for that really enjoyed that. A straight talking Welshman. Can remember watching the film Zulu with my Dad so many times. Diolch yn Fawr.
I always feel very sad when I see an overgrown and neglected cemetery or graveyard. Is there not one volunteer willing to help a little occasionally, the delight that something positive was done is very satisfying. I’ve done a little tidy up on one gravestone some years back, it took half an hour with no cost to do and that grave still looks good. I’m proud to have done that but wish my health was better so I could do one more grave.
He was very nice bloke, when I worked on the reception desk at Alembic House, Albert Embankment , London. He had the penthouse at the top of the building, and would often let film crews use it for the views of Westminster and Big Ben.
Had my very first Pint at the (Long Gone) 'Imps Club' in Ferndale, way back on my 18th birthday in 1966. Sat at a table next to Stanley and didn't pay for another pint that night. I so wish I could remember it all but, after he plonked down a pint with a very large Whiskey, I remembered very little, other than, he signed my Tie with a felt pen!
Nice, i was born in 79, my father was a professional model painter for airfix and a ww1 and ww2 enthusiast, he had wild knowledge of war i miss him. My stepdad actually plastered a new part of this mans somerset house, to think he plastered Lt chards gaff is nuts.
Stanley was a great actor, a tragedy he died so young. Robbery was a good film, the car chase formed the basis of the one in Bullitt with Steve McQueen. He was in Hell Drivers in 1957 a film that featured Patrick McGoohan, Sean Connery, Sid James and David McCallum in the cast. He was in Hill in Korea with Michael Caine and obviously spotted his potential.
Yes as we all know how the weather is very often wet and windy in Wales! 😂 But in those days perhaps that’s what made men, men? (That and working down the mines!)
Brilliant vid LT. I remember watching Zulu when I was a kid and was transfixed and become a little obsessed with Rorke's Drift. Stanley Baker was such an amazing actor and could have been much more famous if he did every movie that came his way but he has integrity. Cymru am Byth 😉 Diolch LT
You did a great tribute to S Baker .. very interesting. Seeing the graveyard did put in mind of suggesting you could gather an effort together to maintain it ., thereby keeping those past in mind .
Just recently came across your videos on UA-cam I'm loving them beautifully filmed with respect and beautifully narrated with lots of information about the subject I'm from Wales myself the north 🏴
Super Vlog L.T. Great info about Stanley Baker and the reference to Zulu. Loved the Italian job iconic film. He was a very proud man of his roots. Great views from cemetery were his ashes was scattered. Great Job indeed.
Just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed. Great upload. 👍. I was 6 years old growing up in North Wales when he died and it was the first memorable death of a star that I remember happening as my father was a huge fan of Baker. Being 6, death was a new concept and my father gave me what I remember being, an eloquent explanation of what death was and I’ve used the same explanation to explain it to my own children. His passing was overshadowed by the passing of Elvis the year after then John Wayne in 1979. It’s as if his passing has been almost forgotten. Thanks for locating the possible site where his ashes were scattered and some very happy memories from that period.
Small point, in the film Zulu Jones 593 references Bwlchgwyn (The next village up from where I was raised) as his home village but there was never any reference to him living there. He was born in Bristol and attested in Worcestershire. 👍
Ciao LT. Preferisco questa tipologia di video rispetto a quelli notturni. Sono mie opinioni. Grazie come sempre per il lavoro che ci regali. Un abbraccio Monica ❤
ITS NOT SO EASY ITS REALLY VERY HARD TO FORGET OLD ACTORS YOU KNOW MOVIES AND ACTORS OF 50'S 60'S AND 70'S WILL NEVER NEVER GO OUT OF OUR MINDS AND HEARTS MAY GOD ALMIGHTY FORGIVE THEM AND SEND THEM BACK WHEN JESUS RETURNS
I've been to that cemetery many times over the years. I once 'met' Stanley Baker although I was too young to remember. He was filming the TV series, How Green Was My Valley in old Fochriw and in between takes, my father spoke to him and I was there in a pram. I wish I could remember it. P.S. This is something a lot of people probably don't know. Opposite Saint Gwynno Church in a pub called Brynffynon Hotel and in it's car park a Welsh choir sang March of Men of Harlech and was it was this recording that was used in the film Zulu.
My fave Welsh actor - ahead of both Burton and Hopkins.I know 'Zulu' is regarded as his best film, but for me,it's a griity british crime drama - "The Criminal". A superb actor who died way too young.
A lovely video for a great actor , who died far too young. He kept true to his roots and refused the easy way into Hollywood films, preferring to produce and partly finance his own projects. He did not have the best of luck - British films were not doing well internationally at the time , so he suffered financially - the stress must have been intolerable. His film Robbery is a cracker, and much appreciated now, sadly, not sufficiently at the time. The local council have a lot to answer for letting a graveyard get into that state - I know it's not a priority but surely there has to be some respect there.
Obviously this grave yard is shamefully neglected. Even Mr Bakers grave hasn't been cared for. Doesn't he have relatives to take care of his resting place.
Shame on the Welsh 🏴 local people were this grave yard is :: the local community should be complaining to there local council on how they have let these deceased down. and are not looking after people 💙💙💙
The graveyard is owned by the Church where is only one service once a month not the council as the stones are doted around the Church whereas a council graveyard is not established around a church.
There are many cemeteries in Wales in far worse condition sadly, people seem to forget their deceased final resting places and there is no excuses but thats the way it is unfortunately. Rest well Stanley you made your mark and was taken far too soon ❤🏴
He's NOT in an unmarked grave, his ashes were scattered overlooking Ferndale , just off the Llanwonno road. According to his wishes. Llanwonno used to be a small community with a shop. The only building left besides the Church is the BrynfynnonbPub. Good beer, good food.
Bear in mind that there is no community there any longer, hasn't been for decades. It is an isolated spot with very narrow roads which makes access problematic for much of the year. There have been very few interments there in recent times. Incidentally, it was used for on-location filming for two episodes of Dr Who, years ago.
Being welsh he made sure the movie zulu had a strong welsh Flavour altho most of them were english and denigrated Private hook into a misfit Most of the extras were south African soldiers clean shaven!
A disgraceful looking graveyard, isn't there any respect for the dead. That vicar needs to be sacked he has no compassion for the dead,to allow their resting place's to get in that state

Nice fine British actor , watched him in film with Adam Ladd other day
After Zulu Stanley Baker bought the medals including the VC that was awardwd to Lieutenant John Chard. The medal are now owned by Lord Ashcrof.

Sad to hear a man who fought at Rorkes drift is buried in an unmarked grave deserved better
Hi Colin, thans for watching
At least he got a grave, when my neighbour died his daughter sold his body to the medical university and was thrilled to receive $500.
I've been to that cemetery many times over the years.
I once 'met' Stanley Baker although I was too young to remember.

You are very welcome.
That was a great series with Sian Phillips.
Very well done
Thank you very much!
Shameful condition to Welsh cemetery RIP Stanley
great actor. is the church still in use? kind of a lonley cematary. hillside has a great view. wonderful place for ashes. great video.
I belive it is still in use. I think the nearby pub has a key but I was there too early in the morning. Thank you
What's the music track that you use at the end of the video? Great work, iconic figure, RIP Stanley Baker. Thank you.
My fave Welsh actor - ahead of both Burton and Hopkins.I know 'Zulu' is regarded as his best film, but for me,it's a griity british crime drama - "The Criminal".

Great actor, and odd coincidence right now watching Hell drivers on talking TV channel, good film.👍
Is that the small church in Llanwonno ?
Yes
Good Job, well done

Great actor best films Zulu & Hell drivers
Obviously this grave yard is shamefully neglected. Even Mr Bakers grave hasn't been cared for. Doesn't he have relatives to take care of his resting place.
Hardly anyone I know lives anywhere near their ancestor’s birthplaces. They likely don’t know where they are buried.
i knew he was scattered on the mountain side but not sure which side thanks
Thank you
Such a shame the cemetery is not maintained. It is almost as if those who rest there have been forgotten.
Realistically, the majority of those who lie there have had no living descendants for centuries.
Also the home of the late great Alan Evans darts player
Thank you
That cemetery was very unkempt.... Some respect for the dead please ....no doubt council cuts...
The film Zulu will forever be associated with Stanley Baker and Michael Cain which isn`t a bad thing , two great film stars in a remarkable movie.
Thanks for watching

I'm from the Rhondda, childhood..... All thr cemeterys were unkempt like llanwono. 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Same as the old cemetery at St Sannons church in Bedwellty, totally disgusting how the council has let it go.

The graveyard is owned by the Church where is only one service once a month not the council as the stones are doted around the Church whereas a council graveyard is not established around a church.

It's Thomas Chester that's in an un-marked grave
Its my understanding Stanley bought a "very good copy" set of John Chards medals....to find out they were his including the VC.
Thank you, I wish I knew that before I filmed the video
He was brilliant in Hell Drivers.
Very strong north wales accent.
A shame the graveyard looks like it does 🙏
Dont forget he starred in hell drivers .
Absolutly disgusting to let a cemetery get overgrown total disrespect to the deceased

Correction in the video description
A disgraceful looking graveyard, isn't there any respect for the dead. That vicar needs to be sacked he has no compassion for the dead,to allow their resting place's to get in that state
The Church authorities would rather divert their funds overseas in response to long past slavery issues.🤨
I do volunteer from time to time to tidy my local church.
The local council are the only ones legally allowed to strim the churchyard.
