Wow very interesting startup of course now with the Mild Hybrid in the engine there is no more startup motor. Thanks for the video, i was curious if the mild hybrid changed the startup sequence. Turns out it did, can’t wait to get my xDrive40i.
@@abayamangali That was a warm start in the sense I had already removed it from the garage. The cold starts are ferociously loud. My neighbors actually complained.
After I learned BMW introduced new mild hybrid S68 engine which sitting between the crank and and the zf transmission I was wondering if it could be reliable as before.
Super easy, there's always on buttons for adjusting the temp up or down for both front seats, then there's a permanent climate button that gives you an array of settings. It works well.
Yeah, we're baby'ing it for sure. I don't have an M50 reference, but it is an "all new engine". Time will tell if it's got any more real power (versus advertised). Being an "S" engine, one would think it's got some decent changes. The 48V system definitely makes for incredibly smooth starts and auto start/stop!
@@UraniumTwoThirtyFive also looking forward to the tuning numbers on stock engine/turbos and maybe catless also. Curious to see how emission limited this car is compared to the M50i
@@UraniumTwoThirtyFive Is it even smoother than we start the with the stop/start disabled? I found it was smooth when I had test drive an gle though I was wondering if there is caveat to make the system complicated to pass the emission regulation.
Beautiful color and sounds great. But aren’t you concerned about the 48v system as designed with V8? I know one personally that caught on fire a couple years ago at the yellow wire harness on a x7 40i and that engine doesn’t run nearly as hot. If you leased it, doesn’t really matter and that was a rare case but boy I am not sure what they were thinking putting it near the crank case and transmission. Time will tell but no freaking way would I own this thing after warranty.
I don't lose any sleep over it. I have to rely on the engineers at BMW knowing what they're doing. I'm enjoying the 48V system, the eBoost really kicks in and provides an immediate punch as the turbos are still spooling.
Had it for 4 days. Already cut out the resonator added an h pipe, took out the over engineered air and charcoal filters replaced with BMC and installed an exhaust valve controller. Waiting for the tune firmware to code the piggyback map sensors and hopefully get upper 700’s.
@@MrToastyman900 it’s pretty much a redesigned m50i motor. The air filters are the same. Exhaust valves are the same and 3” pipe is 3” pipe. Heads up: Bad idea taking the resonator out. It definitely needs either the factory resonator or an h pipe. I installed the JB4 to the obd port and map sensors. Just have to wait for burger to update the firmware for this motor. Hopefully they can get a +6 map for it. It was insane on my 22 m50i
@@xellium5445 I had a 2019 x4m comp. The shift points and rev matches in the new S68 seem to be more responsive and more “M” like they were in that. To put it into perspective, sport plus in the N63 is plain sport mode in the S motor. So with the S motor sport plus will just stay ready to go holding at 3200 rpm’s (just like my x4m comp did). With the N63 I found myself alway putting it in manual to keep the rpm’s up around town. Not with the S motor. It’s fantastic. If you don’t come to a complete stop it will stay in 2nd. The turbos are incredibly loud! And the tune seems to be matched to having the best sounds at 23-27mph (city driving) and 37-43mph around town. So it’s always turning heads. I have about 1800 miles on it now and am starting to get some of the deep gurgles here in there when I let off the throttle. As far as the sound I though I liked the N63 better. It had a true V8 drag car sound. But I have found myself preferring the more exotic v8 sound with the loud whistle from turbos. And yes, there is a proper blow off valve. Not a full recirculating gate. On a true highway trip of about 420 miles I got 23.4 mpg and around town in sport plus I get about 12. In the N63 I was getting 11 and 20. Not that that really matters 😂. Over all M did a fantastic job on the new motor. One of my friends went to the unveiling of the S68 and sent me a ton of pics of the cut aways and internals. The only thing I’m curious about is why they didn’t just call this a X7M. I know the XM is coming out so they absolutely could have. In the dash, it says “M” not M60i on the Motor cover it says “M” not M Performance. They only place other than the back that is stamped M60i is the lower door jamb plate. It even has M mirrors. I talked it over with a few M enthusiasts even though it is lacking an m mode they and myself felt it was okay to re-badge mine to a proper X7M.
On the rev? I'm not sure, the car will not go over 4500RPM at all (even in Sport Plus drive) for the first 330 miles. It literally tells you this when you start up the car and the RPM gauge above 4500 RPM is greyed out with a lock screen. The car says this is due to required engine break-in. I haven't hit that limiter as I generally take it easy on my cars for the first 1,000 miles. I'd have to report back after I clear that period if revving is limited.
@@UraniumTwoThirtyFive yes plz don’t try to push it to hard if ur car is under 1k miles cuz it’s basically factory new wait till after that then they will unlock full power
great choice bmws engineers definitely know what there doing with all the new m models

New S68 engine sounds great
Thanks
Thanks for sharing wanted to know what the new starter would be like as it’s not really a starter motor anymore sounds good still!

BMW... reliable? Hahah stop it!
The N63 wasn't reliable although the TU version that made it into the X7 was as good as that motor was going to get.
Have a 23 x7 M60i on order! What is the screen like to operate with the climate controls integrated in the screen?

very curious to know how it picks up compared to the M50i, looking forward to some updates after the break in!! great car, congrats man
