The car is smart enough to know if the driver or passenger is requesting a temperature change. I usually just say I'm warm and it cools the driver side if there are 2 people. It will adjust as needed for what the passenger says...crazy good technology.
I hadn’t even noticed that about the climate. I set “Simon Says” when I got mine, but I’m used to “Hey BMW” from prior vehicle, so I never remember Simon says.
This was excellent. Some things I would still like to find out about or see developed: * Can my car address me by name? "Hello, " * Can I assign a verbal passcode that must be presented in order for the vehicle to start? (for additional security) * Can I name my BMW? I like "Ava". * Can I insert an audio clip as "intro" or "starter music". My favorite is Shania Twain's "Let's go!" from the intro of her "Gonna Getcha Good" video.
Thank you, that was great. I have a question sometimes my personal assistant ask me to repeat the command or it doesn’t understand what I need it to do?
Id make sure your BMW ID or profile is setup first and not in the guest profile. If you have a 2019ish BMW they were newer then and wernt the most consistent to be honest. Sometimes using different phrases might work better too.

Yes the "blink to pass" blinker feature takes some getting used to. In Germany, passing legally requires using at least 3 blinks and police write tickets for no blinker passing. The "blink to pass" feature is designed to be "one touch and release" for 3 blinks. No cancelation or holding required. IF you move the lever past the detent (you feel resistance) THEN you must cancel the blinking. Practice this, move lever a little bit and release, 3 blinks and it stops. Most people think they must cancel leading to left blinker, right blinker, left etc.
I have a question. When I turn on my 24 BMW X7 drive 40, the seat warmer turns on by itself along with the seat cooler. I have to turn it off manually every-time I start it. Is there a fix for this? Thank you
Fantastic resource. Much better & easier than wading through the handbook. I've a m135 xDrive (UK) & it has system 9. Some good. Some not so good. Just for fun I'd like to change the name of the PA but I can't find anway to change it to something else. Am I stuck with Hello BMW or is there a way to change this in system 9?
Yes my recommendation would be to leave it on for the first couple weeks so that the buyer has a chance to play around with the system and not have fingerprint marks all over it!
You have really good and helpful videos! How can I get the car to stop turning off when the driver opens up the car door. For example when I go into the store but still have people sitting in the car and everything shuts down even after only hitting the park button. I have even deactivated the feature "turn off vehicle after opening door"?
@richarda3764 The car automatically cuts off after the driver opens the door before anybody actually steps out the car. I figured out a way now. Place it in sport mode before getting out, will prevent it from cutting off.
I have a question and not a comment. I have read the owner's manual, watched very helpful videos on this channel but cannot find anything about how to check the oil, water, temp gauges? Can you tell me how I can access that please? I have an X1
There should be a video on how to setup remote start if the vehicle is able to support it. I would check out that one. Preconditioning isn't very neccesarry for gas powered cars, its more of a comfort thing for them. For EVs it is recommended that you pre-condition the battery in the winter time as this improves the range of the vehicle.
Haha great question, I love Joda btw lol. So alot of times you do have to keep the order in the phrase the same. So say for example you could say Navigate or take me or drive me to, etc and then say the address. But I dont think it would work if you were to say the address and then the command.
Appreciate all you content creators, so thank you for that. Just a suggestion that maybe keep the background BMW sounds to a minimum. Was kind of distracting, at least to me. Good content, though.
Which X5 (Idrive 8.0) features require a subscription? In other words, which features will I lose if I let my subscription expire? For example: remote start, drive recorder, navigation routing, etc.
Remote start you won't lose. You will lose access to the my bmw app, traffic jam, points of interests, etc. Connecteddrive.com is where you go to renew and see exactly what they are for your car.
I have a 2023 X1….using the Personal Assistant can be hit and miss… get your syntax correct with the PA and it works fine. If the syntax is incorrect it’s not going to work. It does take some training yourself to have workable commands at the ready that will make it effortless and amusing. Otherwise you’ll end up just performing the function manually and probably getting frustrated with the PA. I’ve let out a few expletives while trying to get a function performed…and the PA just cracked me up with the response back. I’ve made a commitment to be nice to her…she is very pleasant and forgiving.
Haha great points, yes it does take some time and adjustments to the speech to get it right. I personally have a stutter and it can be a nightmare at times =)
Only if you're close to hitting another car or object. No way to have it auto activate. There is a surround view feature that you may have. You can set a activation point and have it pop on when you get to a location.
lol, love the channel but I gotta point this out. It seems that according BV, there are two type of people who watch this channel: those of you who “may already know this” and the “many people who don’t know this”. 😂. Keep up the good work.
Great guide. In the 2018 X3 you can change the voice between British English and American English in the settings. Can you not in 2024 cars? I have an M2 (from Mexico) on the way,
Yess it's a feature that can be easily forgotten but I think we all should get into the habit of using it more since it's getting much better every year. Congrats on the 430i, and thank you for watching!
I concur. Just commit to using it for a week and you’ll be set. I had to consciously tell myself. It works so much better than looking for stuff and pressing buttons.
That number will change depending on driving style, there is not a way to control it. The car will take an average of how you're driving, what speeds, whether or not you are stopped, all into the average.
Unfortunately not, usually helps to keep windows up. You could also try changing the wake word to something else that may be easier to say. I named mine Emmy =)
Love your videos! Love my new i5M60. I have had arguments with my Personal Assistant. This video is a big help. Thanks!!!!! Coming off a Tesla Model S Ludicrous. The M60 is a superior car in every way! I drove this car for 2 weeks and have finally found a car that I like better than my 2008 M5 ! your videos are great!
My 2024 X3 has so many beeps but it doesn’t beep when I am backing out of the driveway to let me know cars are coming from the left or right! Is this normal? Thanks
The X3 can beep when the cars are very very close to hitting you. It's a 2 step warning. One where it just shows a red blinking light on the screen either left or right depending on where the vehicle is coming from. Or it'll make the actual sound only when the other car gets very close to hitting your car. It's very hard to get this to go off.
I agree. I also just purchased a 2024 X1 M35i and the rear cross traffic sensors suck. Coming from a Cadillac which would warn me at least 3 or more car lengths that a vehicle is approaching the rear, BMW should have had a equal or higher standard when it come to this safety feature. I might as well turn off the flawed safety feature because it is useless..
This feature really sucks on BMWs and is one of their biggest flops. It will warn you about a second before you get hit because that's how late it is to react. I had a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee before this car and it would nicely alert me to vehicles before I could even see them which is the way it supposed to be. I even try to back into a parking space with my BMW now so I can drive out straight just because the rear radar is such crap.
That climate control only has 5 fan speeds. How do you like it? How do you rate the strength for each setting? I have X1 with also 5 fan speeds. It's the most annoying thing ever. Super Low is barely non existent. Low is already super noisy like a hurricane and blows air in your face. And when I shut the central body vents, it blows in the windshield vents even harder. Almost no win win solution here. It cools and heats very well and fast, and therefore I need it to always adjust it down from Low to Super Low after a few mins. But then need to bring it back up to Low again because Super Low is like nothing. I wan more fan speeds, something in between Super Low and Low. Any tips?
I have a question, for the voice command are you able to control heated seats settings and stuff. Also one question I saw your vids about the mistakes to NOT make on your BMW. It's really hot down here and as soon as I started the car and 45-60 seconds after I started to get on it, in the summer are the engines usually pre-heated up because of the hot weather. I just want to make sure I didn't do anything, is the cold engine ONLY in the winter? I want to make sure I'm not doing anything and will have a healthy engine in the long run.
Yes voice command should be able to control the heated seats as well. You can get on your car as long as the engine temperature is where it should be which is not too hot or not too cold. This is especially important in the winter more than it is in the summer. So just keep an eye on the engine temp, if its good then you can get on it fine.
After one year usage it seems my BMW active tourer has learned from my routines and suggest some actions just before I activate. P.ex. The car detected I always open the window just to push the button to get the ticket at the parking entrance in a commercial area, and asks me something as if I want to activate the same action (open window) every time I arrive there. A couple of days later asked for the same in another parking entrance. 😮 By the contrary I find the navigation is not much precise. Often says wrong street names. P.ex. Instead saying turn right at S. Vincent street, says turn right at street town center. It seems is reading some panel indicators instead of saying the name of the street. Embarrassing some times.
Good to know, I actually wasn't aware that the vehicle can learn the habits and offer to save them! I personally only use the BMW navigation for short distances. If i'm going to a area I've never been to I personally use google maps since it's far more accurate.
2024 X5 navigation command changed from 2021 when saying drive to a person in contacts. It would go directly to address and route. Now instead it puts address in search bar and doesn't show route. Now do I change this or what command would get me to the route?
I haven't tried that one yet. But give it a shot to see if it does it. Keep in mind, a lot of newer BMWs prevent you from disableing the feature even if it had the option to do so. They are trying to reduce emissions in the world by doing this.
Try doing a search for "engine sound" I know they had this in the last generation OS system under settings. Or you could look for iconic sounds and toggle that to see if it does it. The vehicle is a hybrid so it's normal for it to be quiet at lower speeds, you would most likely have to put it in sport mode to have that sound louder all the time.
@@BeamerView Appreciate it - im slowly learning more and more, my old Diesel 5 Series from 2016 had nearly nothing compared to these Beamers nowadays!!! it had the MyBMW app and that was about it lol
If you leave it in Hybrid mode, it should re-start in Hybrid mode. Actually, for myself, I don't know how to only start up in "Electric" (only) mode. My 50e only starts up in Hybrid; as I would expect it to.
Are all of these commands available on my 2023 3 series? My Hello bmw gives me a really hard time. I have to speak really slow to her If I spoke as fast as u do in this video, it would be a mess !!
@BeamerView the weirdest thing was, as hard as it is to get her to respond properly, when my hubby said , BMW Is a bit*h, BMW responded with, "Watch your tone".! We didn't speak for a good 10 seconds. We were spooked !!
I have a 2023 230i with Idrive 8 any chance I can get the parking sensor display in the center? and is there any way for me to get the newer self parking the one that can actually read the lines?
You're vehicle should have the sensors as all BMWs do of course, that you can press on the P button near the gear shifter in the center. As for the full display and vehicles that can park themselves you would have to have a higher end BMW and/or the package Parking Assistant Plus built into the vehicle.
@@BeamerView it does have the sensors it just puts them in the center infotainment compared to the center display for the driver. Gotcha so not for see able way to update. I really wished their website was more transparent about the exact use cases for all these features. I wouldn’t have gotten it knowing what I do know. Thanks for the info.
You can for Siri if you go into your phone settings. Look for the siri settings and there are a few different voices to choose from. As for the BMW command I don't think you can.
Can I have the BMW navigation remember an address by a name I assign to the address? For instance, it navigated me to 26 Main St, Arlington, VA. I would like it to remember it as "work".
It should be. Try pressing on the voice command button not holding it. If you hold it you’ll get Siri which is different If you have a BMW that’s older you may have to renew the subscription.
@@lilpea1488 Try rebooting the idrive system, turn on the engine, hold down the radio knob for 30 or so seconds, let go when the screen goes black. See if that helps, also make sure you have a Driver profile setup as well.
I am getting a speed limit warning on the main cockpit screen since I got my BMW ios8 upgraded recently. I checked all the settings in the speed limit menu/options in the system but I keep on getting this warning right from the beginning. Eventually that resumes to just a danger triangle icon. It’s not that I cannot leave with it, it’s just annoying. And worst part of it is I cannot get it away and I don’t know where it came from… All I now is that it started a week ago when the system got upgraded. Any idea on how to change it or get rid of it? My BMW is a 2023 series 4 GC (G26). Any comments would be much appreciated.
I don’t care if it has a personal assistant, it takes longer to use this than press a button. Sure let me close my windows with my voice when I can just press the button next to me. Group think is a bad thing when developing products.
Sure, depending on the task you're trying to do or the situation you're in. I personally would always use it for things like navigation or situations where I would other wise have to type out a word.
The point of personal assistant is to accomplish what you want without taking your eyes off the road. Many options require you to go through sub menus to reach them.
The best way to do it is leave it in auto and keep AC on at all times, the car will do what it needs to to make sure the right temperature gets reached in the car. I have heard of some new x5s not blowing full cold air here and there, if you feel it may be an issue feel free to get it checked out in case.
Hey, I hate the drivers vents. It’s very hard to get them to blow in my face…Takes 5 minutes each time… Then I figured out the issue, may help you: The fan speed doesn’t always follow “auto”. So if you turned the fan down manually, it’ll stay there even if you put it back in Auto. Try “Hey BMW, Max AC”. Also, about the only thing I can do with my Protool is code “Colder AC”, so you may be onto something. Complain at the dealer and see if they can “program” it.
@@carsbykev7037that’s interesting that the fan speed stays low even when you go back to auto, that is very useful to know. I too thought the climate control was useless, I know what to do now…..many thanks
Operating the vehicle in any eco mode or efficient mode let's the temperature "float" beyond the set point and slower fan speeds. Use "max ac" to override all theae restrictions.
If only BMW had a hand gesture control, you'd be to totally squared away. All joking aside, your videos are hard to watch with the constant hand chopping going in front of the camera. Just let me see what you're videoing please.
Alexa is very inconsistent in BMWs for some reason. I would personally advise using another option. Try a idrive reboot though. Hold volume button for 30 secs with the engine on, let go when the screen turns black.
You should add the year to your title to the vid.. I dont think my 2019 M430i has this feature, so It was wasted time for me, you must be in a 2024 or 2025
Pretty useless video, since the majority has their smartphones connected and uses for example Carplay. And BMW Personal Assistent can't be activated simultaneously...
Yes it can. You can set up hey siri and hallo BMW both. Also when I use CarPlay I can use the hello BMW phrase. Not only by voice but also by using the button on the steering wheel. Long press the button for Siri and short press for Hello BMW.
Hahahaha yes you can in the 2024 there are separate buttons on the steering wheel. Also they know their name. You say hey siri or hey BMW and the one you wants will help. Personally I need both. Siri can’t adjust my ac 😂😂 . Bmw can 😁

A couple of days later asked for the same in another parking entrance. 😮
By the contrary I find the navigation is not much precise.
Why is t the air conditioning cooler?
Temperature might be down.
Do a video on how to find parking in certain areas
Sure, easiest way is to just ask the voice command, "what are some places I can park here" or "what are some parking garages here"
2024 X5 navigation command changed from 2021
when saying drive to a person in contacts. It would go directly to address and route. Now instead it puts address in search bar and doesn't show route. Now do I change this or what command would get me to the route?
why the left side of the steering wheel is jacked and the right side is smaller lol ?
Any recommendations on where to get a downpipe for the 2020 330i xdrive?
Not much focused on aftermarket accessories, I would revert to forums like bimmerpost to get the best idea!
@@BeamerView any recommendations on where to find a good amount of choices for a spoiler/ trunk lip ?
@Botzz28 did you not read their answer? This is not a spares channel!
Will voice command turn off the auto engine off feature?
I haven't tried that one yet. But give it a shot to see if it does it. Keep in mind, a lot of newer BMWs prevent you from disableing the feature even if it had the option to do so. They are trying to reduce emissions in the world by doing this.
If you put the vehicle in the sport mode, it turns off the start stop function.
can it hear you clearly when driving at 50-60mph
You can with windows up.
Sunroof cannot be controlled on all BMW's. Tried it on a 2024 i4 and the voice says it can't do that.
Good to know, this may depend on the country of which the vehicle is programmed in.
@@BeamerView I'm in the US
Awesome!!! Thank you!! 🙌🏼
You're so welcome!!
how new is this feature ? im buying a 2019 3 series
2019s should have it too. Just not as fast as it would with the newer BMWs but will still do many of the same commands
How can I get my exhaust sound on demand on my 2023 Bmw XM? It's always silent when I turn it on and kicks on randomly when I drive.
It’s the quote for me “Or U might get lucky for the night” 😂
Haha!
Can you get lucky with the BMW assistant too?
Haha!!
I have an i7 - could do with a video on that
WIll add that to the list!
@@BeamerView Appreciate it - im slowly learning more and more, my old Diesel 5 Series from 2016 had nearly nothing compared to these Beamers nowadays!!! it had the MyBMW app and that was about it lol
Have a new x5 50e when I start the car it is in electric mode. I would like it to start in hybrid mode. What do I need to to.
I have to speak really slow to her
If I spoke as fast as u do in this video, it would be a mess !!
Yes the same commands should be available. This BMW has the newer 8.5 Operating system which may be more responsive.
Is this only for 2024 models
Works for 2019 and up depending on which bmw you have.
This is good to know!
How do you change the voice on the command from a man to a woman?
You can for Siri if you go into your phone settings. Look for the siri settings and there are a few different voices to choose from. As for the BMW command I don't think you can.
Thank you very much, this video is very helpful
You are welcome!
And most importantly, you don’t need to pause after saying “hey BMW”!
Good to know, that makes it easier for sure.
Can I have the BMW navigation remember an address by a name I assign to the address? For instance, it navigated me to 26 Main St, Arlington, VA. I would like it to remember it as "work".
I've wondered this same thing
On my X5, I can use the voice command to raise all windows.
I've noticed some vehicles outside of the US can do this!
@@BeamerView I’m outside the US. Makes sense.
I actually dont like this new console without the stick or drive modes.
How can you add the widget in the map? 4:47
This vehicle has the new iDrive 8.5 display which includes the widget you see on the home screen.
@@BeamerView thank you! How can i update mine? I have i drive8 in my bmw 3 series 2024
I still can’t deal with the new grills and fronts end design. BMW, lost me forever because of this
I love the new design on my x5mc.
BMW is switching up their design team, the future looks bright =)
I asked my wife and she did confirm that she would put out if I matched the lighting to her dress color.
lmao!!
Can Hello, BMW! transform a car loan payment book to a zero balance? That would be very helpful and Hello, BMW! could be my new best friend, eh?

Focus on the road, there is nothing but the road.
Yup another reason why voice command is crucial for safety.
I CANNOT USE THIS FEATURE. IT TELLS ME IT IS NOT AVAILABLE WITH CAR PLAY! PLEASE ADVISE
It should be. Try pressing on the voice command button not holding it. If you hold it you’ll get Siri which is different
If you have a BMW that’s older you may have to renew the subscription.
@@BeamerView I tried that. I have a 2024 X3 M340i.
@@BeamerView I’ll have to bring it in to service . Ugh!
@@lilpea1488 Try rebooting the idrive system, turn on the engine, hold down the radio knob for 30 or so seconds, let go when the screen goes black. See if that helps, also make sure you have a Driver profile setup as well.
@@BeamerView thank you
I am getting a speed limit warning on the main cockpit screen since I got my BMW ios8 upgraded recently.
You might get lucky that night 🤣🤣🤣, cool!
I don’t have a wake word, I just push the microphone & talk!
That also works well!
I have aM850i
Hello BMW should also be available for it!
I only use the voice command for navigation. Everything else is kinda gimmicky.
Try checking to see if there is a software update, that may help a bit.
Takes 5 times longer to tell it to do something then doing it myself.
Sure, depending on the command.
I have a 2024 X5 and the AC is the worst I have ever encountered in a vehicle, especially in deep south Texas. 😰
It’s very hard to get them to blow in my face…Takes 5 minutes each time… Then I figured out the issue, may help you:
The fan speed doesn’t always follow “auto”.
I changed my keyword to “Darh-ling” so I can feel fancy anytime I ask her to do things. Like Edna 😅lbs
Love it! I might have to do something similar lol
I might use a stronger word, but darling is good too😂
It’s Bimmer.

Great video and will def use now lol
Hope you enjoy!
Wow! Another 5 min video ‘squeezed’ into 15 mins. Why?
UA-cam Algorithm.
Can you change the voice of the personal assistant?? I think it is annoying!
You cannot unfortunately
Those glued on cheap screens are terrible.
If only BMW had a hand gesture control, you'd be to totally squared away. All joking aside, your videos are hard to watch with the constant hand chopping going in front of the camera. Just let me see what you're videoing please.
Sure!
Mine says Hey Alexa not BMW
Alexa is very inconsistent in BMWs for some reason. I would personally advise using another option. Try a idrive reboot though. Hold volume button for 30 secs with the engine on, let go when the screen turns black.
1 minute 20 seconds before you actually get on topic, then mention voice command! Waste of video; waste of time.
Thanks for a minute and 20 seconds of your time
Voice commands can be good, but what if a person can not talk. Too bad the buttons are gone😢.
You should add the year to your title to the vid.. I dont think my 2019 M430i has this feature, so It was wasted time for me, you must be in a 2024 or 2025
Personal assistant should be available for the 2019, it would not be as great as the new up to date one, but you can still use a lot of the commands.
First feature we disabled when we got our M3😂
Hahaha, hit or a miss I guess you could say. I personally use it for a couple things when Im trying to do too many things at once while driving =)
@@TomHiel Of course you can use that phrase, you can also say: 'Hey Baby'... but both pretty useless, imo...
@@onzebubbels1549 that’s why my phrase is “hi dipshit” 😆
