I can't imagine having the 6.4 in that car with this power - it's INSANE how far cars have come in the past decade with power numbers. This car is a steal of a deal at this price for what you get!
engines today have more power than 15-20 years ago, you can get 200+ hp from a 4 cylinder, we rented the new Camry this summer, a lot more power than the older cars, tuned for faster acceleration
How? Its just a classic copy cat japanese design... People get so captured by the aura of these jdm cars they literally blind themselves to the most obvious facts. I don't care what anyone says, the 300C is a great car! My parents bought a 2006 300C with the 5.7 hemi in brilliant black paint. We felt rockstars in that car!
I find it absolutely incredible that this car is still in production. I wanted one ten years ago. Back then I was in uni for my second year. I’ve since graduated, had a few jobs, gotten three other cars, quite the jobs, moved on from those cars and moved to another country. All while this thing is still roaring through canyon roads.
I own a 2014 300, we love it. Here in Quebec, there are rare and you actually feel having a unique car. I have two kids and a dog, comfortable for long rides with a big storage. I enjoy it greatly.
I just had a 300 from avis when the rental Nissan altima died, a hell of an upgrade. It was just the v6, 2k miles new, but it had an alpine stereo, 20in wheels, sunroof, leather, and got 30mpg at 80mpg through 130 degree heat with 3 people, 2 dogs, and luggage. It handled surprisingly well, was very comfortable, and had plenty of punch. I was super surprised at how much I liked it. It's just big, bombastic, crass, and simultaneously a sleeper but flashy in weird ways. Kind of hilarious. I totally dig it,and would love to drive the hemi version.
@@volvo09 they're super nice wheels too, great design. This car was kind of a metallic root beer color, and the rims were satin charcoal. Dope af? Yeah kinda lol
@@bman99ss yeah through Nevada, AZ, and Utah at the peak of the recent heat wave, 130 was a typo (and the 80mpg lol) but it was well over 120 degrees, which caused the previous rental altima to cut power and limp along. The 300 didn't care one bit about the heat, just cruised right along.
I have had my '23 300C for a little over a month now. Love the car, just like you said. Big V8, powerful, big comfy sedan. Love it. Yes, you can get a Charger Scat Pack for a few grand less than a 300C. That's the cheapest way into the 6.4L V8. But that doesn't get you the adaptive suspension, active exhaust, etc. To equip the Scat Pack as close as you can to the 300C, the Charger Scat Pack comes in at $63K... much higher than the 300C. Plus, you can't get the Scat Pack with the full Laguna leather (gotta step up to a Hellcat for that) or the panoramic sunroof (unavailable on the Chargers).
I'm glad they kept the car relatively unchanged with upgrades here and there. The reliability is there, it had the Mercedes inspired chassis and actual Mercedes suspension. It is Daimler's "Monster". I just bought a low mileage 2020 300S , w/Red S package, and hope to be driving it for reliable years and years to come. Other than having a stiff ride, for a "luxury" car, I am happy with it.
Nah, Chryslers are for the more dignified. It would be like putting a Corvette engine into a Cadillac (When Cadillac had big large sedans). Lincoln, Chrysler (and Imperial when they were alive), and Cadillac are for the dignified people who still want power but not overkill power

They use the last gen of these as highway patrol cars in NSW Australia, unless you have something proper quick you are not getting away. Sound great when they send it too, somtime it seems like the cops just pull people over so they have an excuse to launch one of these
I tried so hard to get one of these in Canada. They sold out mega fast! Ive owned the previous SRT8 models. They are so brilliant, theyre comfy, theyve got a huge trunk. And they dont look too outlandish like the Charger. I cant believe they didnt market the 300 more throughout the past half a decade with everyone racing for big power, this thing was a down to earth luxury machine that easily runs with everything else that was selling really well.
I was lucky enough to get the 300 SRT here in Dubai after they stopped selling them in USA and Canada, till this day it has a commanding presence and sounds amazing, and actually because it is rare to find one -as they didn't sell much for some reason-, its value is increasing since Chrysler stopped making them.
This is the last thing I expected to see on Throttle House lol but its clearly why you guys are my favorite 😂😂. The 300C has always been an interesting car to me. It's come a long way from looking like a Kirkland Signature Phantom
It is what it is. These cars aren’t for everyone, but they have their place. My wife and I had a 3.5L Dodge Magnum (estate/station wagon) for a number of years. It ended up being a wonderful and wonderfully practical vehicle for us. I liked a lot. It was always easy to find in a sea (Costco parking lot) of Camry, Civic and small-to-mid sized S/CUVs. Thanks for the video.
The Magnum R/T is a sort of dream car for me (the "dream" part is having the money to give it a "rally" mod makeover, kind of like what was done to the Lambo Hurracan with the Sterratos), but I've heard some generalizations about dodge product's reliability, including of the Magnum. Did you and your wife have any noteworthy issues with reliability, or even just aspects of it's design that you encountered problems with? By the time I can get one, it will be quite and old vehicle so I want to go in knowing what to expect/fix as much as I can.

I remember driving a Chrysler 300C back in 08, and that thing was hyperactive. You barely press a toe on the accelerator, and it's trying to fly somewhere.
That’s a lot of the Chrysler/dodges, interestingly. When i was a teen, I worked at a full service car wash and we weren’t allowed to push the accelerator on a jeep, unless it was manual, to get it out of the tunnel. I still just let my left foot do all the work, honestly lol. The GM kept an active binder of every time a car wash employee around the world was killed by a jeep because of the super sensitive accelerator and it was scarily frequent
Do they realize that a Charger Scat Pack Widebody with no options but the Plus Package is $60,905? I’m actually impressed they were able to get this so low.
Mopar Insiders did a breakdown, $66k for a comparable Charger Scat Pack vs the $55k for the 300C. I think it was a great deal if you were able to snag one before the waitlist filled up.
Just remember that this was the basic car formula for most of 20th century USA; V8 up front, rear wheel drive in back, four door sedan. Yeah, you had slant sixes and thrift sixes and Pontiac's Trophy Four, and wagons and coupes and so very much more; but this is the last of the giants, a once common style of vehicle now reduced to a flame snorting special edition. It's beautiful.
@@GooglePixelGoogleThey we’re marked up in some cases to over $100k, and people bought them (shockingly), and here we are 4 months later, and you can pick one up “used” with 50 miles on it, for $10k under MSRP. 😂
These are not the most refined cars, but they are definitely good cars. I am 29 and I want a hot hatch or a "warm hatch" I am not this or the Charger's intended demographic. However, I have always had a massive soft spot for the V8 300's and Dodge Chargers, especially the Charger AWD V8.
They look cool, they sound great and they go pretty well. I think its a W. No point comparing apples to oranges. Take it for what it is, hemi V8 rwd full size sedan 🙌
Yeah, this car isn't a good value new in this configuration, but you can pick up a 5 speed auto/5.7 Hemi car for $10k or less these days, and it's a cam and converter away from being a 12 second, comfortable cruiser that has that old school, American Muscle feel. I've always felt that 12/13 second daily drivers are a good spot to be in and still be able to have fun without getting too carried away with speed to feel like you're "using it", how James mentioned.
Really the only way a 5.7 will feel like a 6.4 is with a supercharger and that just kills your mileage and it's harder on your entire drive train. It's still overpriced, but a 5.7 just can't replace a 6.4 imo.
Everyone hates on this car but the day is coming when all you'll be able to buy is a hybrid 1.5L, FWD, CVT driven soymbile. Wait, that day isn't coming, it's already here.
"I want a wide body charger scat pack, its cheaper" (11:34) Well, funny story, so did I. Ordered a 2023 SPWB and specced it out to have most of the bells and whistles I wanted and it came out to 63k. Fast forward two months after ordering it and low and behold there is a 2023 300c for sale that the person who ordered it backed out on. MSRP? 56k. And it came with more options than the SPWB. Long story short, I am the lucky owner of a 2023 300c.
I have gone completely electric. I drive a Rivian truck, and I gave my Model Y performance to my son. Next I have an order in for a Volve EX30 for my wife. This is a car I would like to buy and put it in storage with as few miles as possible and then send it to auction in 10 years or so. A sure winner.
I hope Stellantis does not kill off the Chrysler brand. They have found it difficult to position it within their portfolio, but I think they can easily fit it in alongside Jeep and Dodge. Jeep being their off-road feature-rich vehicle, Dodge as their sports marque and Chrysler as a proper luxury vehicle with more focus on electrification. Chrysler holds so much history in their back catalogue and I think given the right direction the brand can be revived to its glory days.
It’s going to be a tough thing to do now that Chrysler is only going to have the Pacifica to sell. Not sure that alone can float an entire brand. Hey supposedly they have the large EV coming next year- and a couple crossovers based on Jeeps- so just maybe. They need a version of the Wagoneer.
I totally agree Chrysler has so much history in the luxury segment and so many amazing concepts that could help push them there. But it seems like Stellantis just doesn't really care about Chrysler, as it seems they've given Jeep the role of Chrysler, being the luxury part of the company unfortunately. Its really sad to see
Yes, definitely an aging platform, but if you think about the buyer they are targeting, it's just fancy enough to feel like an upgrade. also, I'm glad the v8 is still around.
I owned a 300S AWD and V6. I loved the car for a daily. I bought it used before covid and watched the price of it soar, had to sell it back when I made money on it. I really, really like it. The style is muscular, gangster, American, comfy. My only complaint is that I could not get it with a stick shift. In Sport mode it was plenty of fun, but I hate having to switch modes, I would prefer leaving it in gear/downshifting for a quick blast around a corner. 300hp is the sweet spot for fun and MPG in a daily.
The 6.4 Hemi's want to be thrashed on. My wife and I have a 2020 Durango SRT and if you mosey around town for too long in it, it gets sluggish. We make it a point to take it outside the city at least once a week and beat on it.
If you need to take a newer vehicle and ‘beat on it’ after it becomes sluggish from a week of city driving I have some unfortunate news… it’s a piece of shit.
I love how the car has been the same for along time. Car makers need to take note more on that. Cars dont need to drastically change ever 3 or 4 years. Let it age 10 year with a few touch ups and marinate amongst the people.
Great video. My experience with these has been horrible. I've had the 1st gen with the 6.1HEMI. I've owned it for two years. Out of that two years ownership, it spent more than 5 months in the shop for variety of reasons. Never again
2 years and only 5 months? That sounds pretty fly for a Chrysler. I managed to get out of my Ford purchase since the repair technicians themselves kept finding faults one after the other. One being that the rear doors where so ill fitted that they scraped the paint! "Hey we agree, here's your money back"
The reviewers compared the 300C to the Lexus IS500 and preferred the latter. However, the 300C costs less, has more room, and is faster 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile. I dont think anyone intetested in a 300C would actually find the Lexus to be a serious alternative.
Something not often mentioned is that these cars, and Challenger and Charger, have independent rear suspension (carry over from Mercedes). Handling is better than expected for many reviewers, and I think that's why.
@@karlmuller44 From the Wikipedia page: While the suspension was revised, the front suspension is still derived from the design of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) and the 5-link rear design from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W211).
I drove a 2014 300 SRT recently and absolutely loved it, even with that ancient Mercedes 5-speed auto. The ZF 8 is nicer, obviously... but that old WA580 is quite fun when paired with the 392.
These and the high trim chargers catch a lot of flack, but I gotta say, they kinda nail it for the price. I loved my charger when I had it. It handled surprisingly well and had enough power to melt tires in third gear. It didn’t have many features but it was extremely comfortable and easy to drive when you wanted to cruise the highway. It had keyless entry, push button start, and a backup camera, and at the time those were all luxurious to me. And despite Chrysler’s reputation, I drove that thing until 200k miles and the only thing that ever happened was a bad water pump. Otherwise very cheap to maintain. I drive a Mk7.5 GTI now and it’s honestly not any nicer, just a better fit for what I need at this stage in life. If and when I return to a sedan it will be a hellcat charger.
We all know American cars aren’t known for their luxury, but when the car is fun to drive and enlighten your senses, like this one did for you, worth it.
Great vid! Loved seeing you guys on the podcasts btw. And id take the Lexus since it'll last til the heat death of the universe. And I like the look the most. And resale value. Tho the Caddy is cool too, V6 or otherwise.
...I've always thought these cars looked great, especially when everyone else is building boring looking CUV/Crossovers...and other sedans were jagged and looked out of place (Cadillac)...this always just looked right...nice smooth lines, proportions were always just right room to spare (sure you may sit high, but with a big level hood like this car has you want to be able to see where it ends...other cars drooped their noses for a less desirable effect)...to me they have always drove well, and for the money you really couldn't beat them...sure you can get nicer, but you will spend more to get it...I also like the fact that they aren't 'over-techy'....cars are getting to nutty with too much 'tech'...too much stuff to go wrong, and some of the tech really isn't needed...such as soft close doors...these are some of the reasons that higher priced luxury cars can't hold their value as when, after a certain age, they are known for a lot of expensive repairs in their 'tech'...to me the 300's were always the right balance of car, tech, luxury, style, power and ride...
My 2013 Charger R/T AWD MAX also has the exact same heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, sunroof, very similar seats and color scheme. I just have the 5.7L instead of the 6.4L. Ehh, gets the job done on the road with some nice sounds.

I ordered mats from Weather Tech for a 2007 Nissan Murano at considerable expense. The mats didn't fit the factory mounting points and provided terrible coverage. I would have got a better fit with a generic cut to fit mat for a fraction of the price from Canadian Tire. I contacted Weather Tech via email and they completely ignored me. Not a single response to multiple emails. I took this to mean Weather Tech already knew their mats for a Murano were absolute garbage and couldn't care less about customer service. More recently I ordered mats for a 2019 Acura RDX from Tux Mat. They fit beautifully and are worth every penny. I wouldn't trust Weather Tech to provide a decent coaster much less a full set of mats. As always YMMV.
I also liked the 300C and 300M, sad that they sucked when compared to the options. Then again, they were based on the Mercedes-Benz E-class of the 90s. It was dated before it released.

I can't imagine having the 6.4 in that car with this power - it's INSANE how far cars have come in the past decade with power numbers. This car is a steal of a deal at this price for what you get!
I've got a 6.1 challenger and it's more than enough power
engines today have more power than 15-20 years ago, you can get 200+ hp from a 4 cylinder, we rented the new Camry this summer, a lot more power than the older cars, tuned for faster acceleration
The 6.1 SRT 300 was a 12 sec car stock. Not bad for a naturally aspirated heavy sedan.
Power is measured in KW or HP, but not displacement
0:01 James' cheekily parked Toyota Century looks gorgeous even all the way back, I'm sure those weathertec mats would fit perfectly in it

How? Its just a classic copy cat japanese design... People get so captured by the aura of these jdm cars they literally blind themselves to the most obvious facts. I bought the first gen 300C for my Dad, way back in 2007. Glad to know it's exactly the same, for when my daughter needs to hook her old man up.
How hilarious is it that 20" wheels used to be rapped about, and now you can get them on a rental car 😆
@@volvo09 they're super nice wheels too, great design. This car was kind of a metallic root beer color, and the rims were satin charcoal. Dope af? Yeah kinda lol
130-degree heat?
@@bman99ss yeah through Nevada, AZ, and Utah at the peak of the recent heat wave, 130 was a typo (and the 80mpg lol) but it was well over 120 degrees, which caused the previous rental altima to cut power and limp along. The 300 didn't care one bit about the heat, just cruised right along.
You pretty much described why I want one.
Not to mention that the 300c is infinitely better looking.
@@joshuasterling2144🫤 idk about that
this is Not better looking.. Charger looks better.. Especially the wide body edition.. I will take a Daytona / Scat over this all day long..
I don't like how the Charger looks at all. I like the Challenger and the 300, Charger is trying too hard. Widebody makes it worse.
Our car has the differential of the hellcat to
I'm glad they kept the car relatively unchanged with upgrades here and there.
The 300c is sexy as hell. Sad it didn't get a makeover for a new year before stopping them. Also they should have definitely did a run of 300 hellcats
I’m definitely bummed we never got to see a factory 300 SRT with a Hellcat badge. A lot of people have done the swap though and it’s glorious.

That's sad because these vehicles are made in Canada!
@@frazzleface753i thought also made in Poland.
Just looked them up on AutoTrader and there is a few in Ontario.
We are going to miss cars like this, truly.
The Magnum is one of my absolute favorite practical cars. An R/T with the optional AWD would be my ideal spec, but they're very scarce.

Definition of “sweet ride.” It’s kinda gangster, reminds me of a 90’s SS Impala.
@@yeoscore That's crazy
That’s the magic of the great torque 🚀
The throttles feel very front loaded in every dodge/chrysler vehicle I've ever driven
I despise front loaded accelerators. 2012 Rav4 has the same issue. Miserable experience. That's why you need to test drive.
European here. Even though it’s old, I really like the looks. It’s refreshing not to see enormous screens and touch buttons.
Had this thing three weeks as a rental and I have to say, I had a lot of fun with this car! I really loved it!
Due to the extreme markups on scatpacks and hellcats today, the 300c actually makes sense now…

What years were those available?
Yeah most I see are 2-4k under 150k. Very tempting sometimes
Straight from an actually hilarious intro to a burnout

"I want a wide body charger scat pack, its cheaper" (11:34)
Well, funny story, so did I.
Its really sad to see
These are garbage cars. Let them slip into oblivion.
Stellantis is going to be Death of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram brands. Though they probably would have ended up dead anyways, sadly.

Never a dull moment with these two 😂
The 6.4 Hemi's want to be thrashed on.
The LX/LD platform cars handle surprisingly well for their size!
Decent'ish vehicles so long as you dont over pay.
Yeah people are still overpaying for cars. That why a lightly equipped truck is $65k+.
I love how the car has been the same for along time. Car makers need to take note more on that. Cars dont need to drastically change ever 3 or 4 years. Let it age 10 year with a few touch ups and marinate amongst the people.

I loved my 2018 300s v6. Plenty quick, 32 mpg highway. Best highway car I ever drove.
Great video once again. I have never really liked the way the Chrysler 300 look, but they do a better job with the interior.

...I've always thought these cars looked great, especially when everyone else is building boring looking CUV/Crossovers...and other sedans were jagged and looked out of place (Cadillac)...this always just looked right...nice smooth lines, proportions were always just right room to spare (sure you may sit high, but with a big level hood like this car has you want to be able to see where it ends...other cars drooped their noses for a less desirable effect)...to me they have always drove well, and for the money you really couldn't beat them...sure you can get nicer, but you will spend more to get it...I also like the fact that they aren't 'over-techy'....cars are getting to nutty with too much 'tech'...too much stuff to go wrong, and some of the tech really isn't needed...such as soft close doors...these are some of the reasons that higher priced luxury cars can't hold their value as when, after a certain age, they are known for a lot of expensive repairs in their 'tech'...to me the 300's were always the right balance of car, tech, luxury, style, power and ride...
My 2013 Charger R/T AWD MAX also has the exact same heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, sunroof, very similar seats and color scheme. I just have the 5.7L instead of the 6.4L. Ehh, gets the job done on the road with some nice sounds.

The mats didn't fit the factory mounting points and provided terrible coverage. I would have got a better fit with a generic cut to fit mat for a fraction of the price from Canadian Tire.
