Thank you for the video to reference when I did the job. One thing I did different was I disconnected the 2 first then unscrewed the housing and dropped the filter down, then I unclipped the single one which was much easier to get at that way.

Just did this on my 17 Jetta 1.4t
No issues . I didn’t need any tools as well
I have VCDS so primed the system but you don’t really need VCDS for this.
    Thanks
Just used my fingers to gently remove the connections
Push the lines toward the filter and then push down on the tabs and pull back on the lines away from the filter
    Car has 40k miles

YOU SAVED MY LIFE! My fuel line retaining clip on the black fuel line also got stuck just like yours did in this video. I didn’t realize it wasn’t locked in place and tried to start the car, when i cycled the key i heard a “pop” but didn’t think anything of it. Turns out the black line popped off and spewed high pressure gasoline EVERYWHERE. when i went to turn the engine on, the car sputtered infinitely and wouldn’t start. I panicked. this is my only car, not only that, i had only 2 hours left before i had to be at work and i’m also planning on taking a 6 hour drive to meet my girlfriend’s family TOMORROW! By chance, I decided to rewatch a filter replacement tutorial. I got SO LUCKY that i found this one by Pauly D. When he explained about popping the clip back into the armed position, i lost my mind with happiness. Earlier, to ensure i could get to work, I secured my loose fuel line onto the filter with ZIP TIES and was just hoping and praying that the thing would hold strong until i could replace what i thought was a broken retaining clip. Apparently it’s just stuck. Can’t wait to try that “pick trick” later when I get home from work. THANK YOU PAULY D!! Life-saver!

Good tutorial, was the same filter and setup on my 2017 Jetta 1.8T, used MANN part WK69 (6.6 bar). Just had one stubborn hose on the intake side that had to be pressed in first in order to get the clip/tab to press in. Did it at 50k. The plastic bracket where the screw goes in also had a plastic tab that had to be broken from the factory in order to open the filter bracket mount.

SUGGESTION/IDEA: At new or after a replacement, cut a small section of tubing to surround the connection to act as a debris boot to ease future service efforts. Use zip ties(no rust potential) to GENTLY compress the tubing into place on each side of the connection so the tubing doesn't slide. You could also slice the length of tubing to wrap it around the connectors to save disassembly effort. Won't be as protective, but. .
Also, maybe a DROP of soapy water into the clip depression section to loosen debris during clip depression to ease removal. Clean the clips with a rag before re-install.

@@usa5046 go ahead and explain then. Stalling your engine will pull the pressure away from the pump so theres no fuel pressure at the filter. Opening your gas tank has no effect at all, that would be the best case. In the worst case you allow the gas to flow freely towards the fuel line that used to be connected to the filter. Not opening the gas cap may still leave a slightly negative pressure which will reduce the pressure the fuel has at the filter.
Hope you were able to follow me. Now go ahead and explain why im wrong and why your right. Looking forward to that, tho i dont expect a reply...
