Hello everyone! Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm glad you like seeing the Empire's TIE series getting some well-deserved screentime! In case you're wondering what I'm up to now, here's an update video: ua-cam.com/video/S6uZfTRv0K0/v-deo.html (It has a bunch of clips from other projects I've animated that you might not have seen, so take a look if you want to see spaceships exploding!) Cheers!
Just to let you know, this video is one of my absolute favorite videos ever, I can't help but smile the whole time that I watch it. Never stop doing what you are doing please, and make more of these if you can. Galactic Empire all the way!
@@j-play4325 The Rebel leadership, their main computers and a lot of valuable Rebel personnel escaped but yeah, the Rebels suffered heavy losses and lost their main base so the Empire won the Battle of Hoth, they just didn't get the total victory they aimed for.
Really like how there is a cool back and forth and significance to everything. Both forces being competent. The rebels fighters having visible shielding while ties don’t, the calibrations before firing, switches being flipped and indicators going off, people going to different stations, orders being given, countermeasures being deployed. its all just very satisfying and weighty.
Didn't the TIEs have shields in the Tie Fighter games? It's been decades but I thought I remember being able to switch shields around to double-front like they mention in A New Hope.

Ethanoux Nah, I'm good, I really don't care what it is, maybe it could 1v1 a star destroyer, but the Empire is never going to play it fair and fight the Rebellion with anything other then as much overwhelming force as it can bring to bear Which was kind of my entire point, the Rebels are CONSTANTLY outnumbered and outgunned
Only an idiot "plays it fair" in warfare. The goal is to eliminate the enemy's capability to conduct warfare while ensuring your own capability is minimally affected.
I like the added touch that the TIE Interceptor Pilot is clearly the oldest, looks like a long time gruff veteran who’s been through hell and back and has taken the two younger pilots under his wing. It’s very lore accurate, at least in Legends, since TIE Interceptor pilots typically were senior pilots hand picked due to their experience and piloting skills. Giving the oldest guy an Interceptor and making him the leader of the trio is an amazing touch, and not to mention just how lore accurate everything else about this animation is. I can definitely tell that the animators were big fans of the EU and likely played a lot of EAW. I’d love to see a whole Star Wars movie, where the Empire are the “protagonists”, like this.
Even better, he played a lot of TIE Fighter, the 90's flight sim game where you play as an Imperial fighter pilot (2nd game in the X-Wing series). This is just *full* of nods back to that game. The pilot ready room map display, the cockpit displays, all of them straight out of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games.
I believe the saying was “your average tie jockey is stupid, your average interceptor pilot’s suicidal, but the defender jockeys? They’re stupid *and* suicidal, that’s what makes them so dangerous”
Yeah, it rewards people who flipped through the books an articles on different ships and weapons. Loved seeing the Interdictor-class and how it gave context to the battle. Also how the admiral switched tactics and fired the ion cannons to disable the transport. Great stuff.
@@RyanEX2000 it might have been avenger, but I might have to open my new essential guide to see the quote again, I could have sworn it was defender though
LevelCapGaming I wasn't expecting to see you but glad to know that you have seen it. Not sure if this has gotten you even more pumped up for the next Battlefront game. Guess I'll find out in one of your upcoming vids :D.
It shows what merit, TALENT, and passion can create, you can have millions of dollars like Disney but if that isn't spent wisely it means next to nothing in terms of quality.
Very true but it's also worth noting this took four years to make and it must have been hard on him because he so far hasn't made another. This is a fantastic video and I've watched it multiple times but still, four years for seven minutes of content isn't exactly what you'd call efficient. Sure, it'd be great if the official creators could put stuff of this quality out but it would take even a dedicated team AGES to make something like this but at a length fans would find acceptable.
@@Goldenkitten1 Well, with more than one man, obviously better tech, money and time used efficiently, we could get wonders like these longer than 7 minutes in maximum of 2 years
@@steel.9714 Of course, but then you're looking at value return. Would the number of people interested in something like this number high enough for Disney to give a shit and put a team on. So likely they'll either not do it at all or if they do, do it put as little funding as possible since there's no empirical evidence something like this would do well. Closest we may ever get to it is the Visions anthology. I'd love if one of them could be adapted into a whole series but I won't hold my breath.
@@omegawilliam95s36 the rebellion has slaughtered millions of normal every day people who work for the military. Yes it was their duty but that doesnt leave the rebels with bloodless hands. Our soldiers are human as well.
@USERZ123XD but their pilots are bunch of farmers while the Empire has the elite of the elite. Who do you think performs better on the streets? A professional racist in a multipla or an old lady in a ferrari?
@@sandsundertail6936 Elite of the elite? Where did you get that? Vader is choking them out like they disposable. They have the worst leadership, look at how they performed at Endor.
I like the detail that every Interceptor had an older pilot. It would make sense that they would be, since the best and most experienced pilots got to fly them.
A lot of this is referencing to the various games. The Interdictor's missile-scrambling party trick coming from the Empire at War strategy games. Meanwhile the heads-up-displays, cockpit layouts, and that PTSD-inducing missile warning come from the TIE-Fighter/X-Wing sims.
Words can't even freaking begin to express how happy I am to finally see a film where THE EMPIRE ACTUALLY WINS. The tactics used were textbook! Droids detecting the enemy fleet, a group of Star Destroyers and an Interdictor pop out of hyperspace to greet them. Interdictor prevents the enemy from escaping back into hyperspace, the TIE fighters block the Alliance fighters from getting a good shot at the Interdictor and the INTERDICTOR ACTUALLY FREAKING USES ITS GRAVITY WELLS TO THROW OFF THE INCOMING MISSILES (I can't stress enough how sweet that was to see). Once the Alliance capital ships were weakened and undefended, the bombardment destroys the rest of the fleet. Absolutely amazing.
ThickOnlinedotcom Will do! Sorry, I'm totally swamped with private messages at the moment and am just getting through them all today. I can definitely do interviews, though I don't think an interview with me would be especially exciting..!
I do love the fact that the commander of the imperial fleet is obviously a veteran, based on what he brought to this fight sure he has the typical star destroyer focused fleet but he also brought with him the most important vessel for fighting the rebels alongside his larger battleships Words cannot describe how fearful the rebels must've been when they saw that interdictor jump in, they knew that whoever they were fighting A. knew what he was doing, and B. they were not getting out of there without a fight
@@knightmare5097interdictors work on a principal of generating a large gravity well to spoof starship navicomputers into thinking that they can't safely jump to hyperspace without hitting a planet. Disney in their infinite idiocy, made the falcon jump with the destination being INSIDE the atmosphere of a planet, aka well within the planet's gravity well. They also did that bull where they made several rapid, random jumps, but I'm not sure that applies. There's also the Holdo maneuver, but again, not sure that applies.
Destroyer2150 actually this Is the realistic result. Imperials were extremely competent but we rarely get to see that side of them. An average imperial soldier or pilot was much more skilled than their rebel counterparts. Also sorry if something posted similar, WiFi and UA-cam both have problems
Dues Caymania UA-cam auto deleted your comment because you used a certain term or string of words which activated the auto censorship. Authoritarian, isnt it? Glad you got past the censors.
Well, TIE-bomber quite agile for his class, and barrage of guuided missiles is really good argument against shield-leaning opponents. This could well become a mass tactic.
Look, if only Thrawn didn't disappear during the Liberation of Lothal, the TIE Defenders will soon replace the shitty regular TIE Fighters. The TIE Defenders has shield as strong as TIE Bombers, but as fast as TIE Interceptors. Basically that's like the Empire now has it own A-Wing starfighters, instead of a bunch of annoying space mosquitoes without hyperdrive and proper shield
@@theasianboy315 Actually I'm pretty sure that tie fighters weren't all that bad. Sure they had their faults, but the fact that tie fighters did not have shields was in a way also a plus. It trained imperial pilots to simply not get hit. Which made the average imperial tie pilot one of the best in the galaxy. Correct me if I'm wrong
@@Foundation_Specialist the empire will call anything elite if it works for them in a lot of cases elite soldiers are just glorified Stormtroopers or regular Storm troopers for that matter
@@Foundation_Specialist also the ties themselves were pretty bad compared to the x-wings and most other ships in the history of Star Wars. The pilots had to compensate somewhat but that did not make them anywhere near best in the galaxy. That would discount general/admiral/captain syndulla who has a really tricked out ship but is still one of the best in the Galaxy regardless. Tie pilots are not on her level
This is the perfect example of why the rebels had to hide their bases and fleets The empire was just to powerful and well trained, if they had their main base exposed, the rebels would have to run Almost all rebellions that attempted to openly start a war was crushed, the empire is perfect for all out war That is why the rebels rely on hit and run attacks, that is why every loss is a major blow to the rebels, and that is how they are able to score victories
Even the old canon followed this. After the Empire lost and was scattered; They were still a threat because of Thrawn who adapted and perfected the Rebel's hit and run startegy, he would've conquered the Galaxy again. The new canon just doesn't have this sense of danger for the Resistance, eventhough they are supposedly outnumbered, they crack jokes, and even trashes the New Order in space battles. Not to mention the New Order seems way too incompetent.
@@boxtupos7718 I fully agree. The First Order is supposedly a major remnant faction of the Empire. They should be comprised of some of the most loyal and experienced soldiers, pilots, and commanders from the Empire. On the flipside, the resistance should be made up of people who respect and understand that the Empire was no joke to contend with, nor should any splinter group. Instead the new trilogy is a bunch of goofballs and idiots who play around like it's all one big party (right up until someone important to the movie canon dies). It's a stupid mess. Even after the First Order unleashes their super weapon and blows up half a dozen major rebel/resistance/republic/whatever plants, it's still treated like a silly saturday morning cartoon romp. The 'bad guys' are fighting like they're standing for something. Meanwhile the new rebels are fighting like it's a temp job. Like it's no big deal. When Luke and rebel squadron were launching against the Death Star, that was heavy shit. They were way out gunned, and way out numbered. It was almost by sheer luck that they won. Now all the main characters treat the whole thing like it's a fucking game. You get short cuts of nameless mooks behaving like it's the dawn of D-Day, but everyone important is all lackadaisical and playing around. They flail their arms and shout like they're on a roller-coaster. It's fucking stupid. And of course the execs of Disney expect you to love it as much as the OT was.
@@buttlord2223 The thing that pisses me off the most is the loss of the basics of physics. The ship running out of fuel will not really work, since they are in space, the ship will not lose its momentum because there is nothing stopping it. So it'll become an endless chase. And the bigger ship, with the bigger thruster should move faster, because although there is mass, there is no weight or any other force going against the bigger ship, there is no drag. Aaahhh.... pisses me off
@@boxtupos7718 I typed out a big giant essay on why physics shouldn't be a major concern and youtube fucked it up. Basically large scale battles in SW are WW2 battles. Space combat is naval combat, with star destroyers and death stars being battleships and aircraft carriers. X and Y wings are fighters and torpedo bombers. AT-ATs are tanks. Hoth is probably some battle straight out of WW2, but the attack on the first Death Star is definitely the battle of midway. basically my point was that physics and real world science take a back seat to the theatrics and storytelling of a battle. It's why that stupid admiral lady's hyperspace ram is so fucking garbage - she uses semi believable real world physics and knowledge to obliterate an entire fleet, and also make every single battle prior completely pointless.
@@buttlord2223 Oh that's ok, but they treat it as the ship will stop in the vacuum of space because it runs out of fuel and will suddenly lose all its momentum just because(?) It's so dumb, that I can't just unsee it. Even in a fictional setting, specially a Sci-fi setting, the vacuum of space is still pretty much going to be that a vacuum. Not to mention it's so basic, that it stands out. And as you mentioned they've used FTL travel as an offensive attack; Which is stupid because in Star Wars going to Lightspeed just sends you to Hyperspace. So they manage to ignore basic physics and lore. Now if rewatch the other movies, I can't help but think, just do a lightspeed bombardment. Create weapons with lightspeed technology.
You know my favorite detail of this is how Otaking knew the EU Interdictor can't have its gravity wells and shields operating at the same time. Hence I just love that scene where the rebels launch torpedoes at the Interdictor and you see them responding by raising the shields to protect themselves.
I was under the impression that the Captain of the Interdictor ordered the manipulation of the gravity wells to disrupt the torpedoes, which is why they ended up careening about, rather than impact on the deflectors...
It's 2020. And this is still the best Star Wars fanfilm ever. Only to be topped by TIE Fighter II by the same creator. Update: it's 2021 and this film is still on top of everything else out there.
I think Astartes is more the TIE Fighter of 40k since this short came out before Astartes if my memory serves. Unfortunately, with the original Astartes uploads being taken down, I cannot verify this.
I can actually see it as one. The guitar-driven rock soundtrack shows that it's targeted at youth who might be thinking of signing up for the Imp Navy.
Well rebel ships were superior in design like how tie fighters, interceptors, and bombers didn’t have shields along with Star destroyers overly exposed shield generators. Pair this with the fact that Tarkin one of the empires best was killed. Also grand admiral thrawn didn’t lead many battles until after Endor.
Three star destroyers worth of Tie's VS some fighters and bombers, transport ships and a medical ship.Outcome might have been different if they fought against Mon Calamari ships, especially MC80 Home One class cruisers.
@@engandaus8815 Plus: the Alliance had brought together the absolute elite of fighter pilots from all over the galaxy. Not that the imperial academies did not produce excellent fighters, too, but for the empire it was quantity over quality - generally speaking a poor choice in counterinsurgency warfare. Besides: the Alliance did their very best to prevent open encounters like this at all cost. The battles of Yavin IV and Endor were absolute exceptions to their method of warfare.
Coming back to this again now, and this short displays the competent threat the Empire is supposed to represent better than any of the movies ever did.
well nah, the empire was pretty competent in Empire Strikes back VERY well. Everywhere else and especially Return of the jedi where they lose to ewoks, not so much.
I FOUND IT! GOD. My dad showed me this several years ago when I was pretty young. It was one of the things that inspired me to take upon animation as an avenue for telling narratives. This was a huge thing for me back then and is a core memory of mine. Such a fantastic animation.
Hello there! Here's an update, since a lot of people have shown interest: I haven't heard anything from the folks at Lucasfilm and I wouldn't want to do more without their blessing, so I can't really do any more TIE Fighter at the moment, sadly. Honestly, even if people were paying me just enough to eat and pay the rent whilst I animated episodes, it would still be pretty dodgy as I'd technically be making money from someone else's property. So that's totally understandable. I have a good 4-episode story arc in my head though if the situation changes (or if I get so rich from other projects that I can just take a year's holiday to do nothing but TIE stuff!). So here's my future plans. Right now at this exact moment, I'm animating a 3-4 minute R-Type space battle (remember R-Type? The 1987 arcade shooter?) for the Mashed channel here on UA-cam. That'll be up in March/April, so don't worry. I'm not exactly starving to death or anything! Mashed are cool and are paying me in ham sandwiches and vitamin tablets. I actually have one of those new-fangled Twitter things where I'm posting updates on that if you fancy a look: twitter.com/OtaKing77077 I already have concepts and pre-production designs done on an original animated film which is my own IP; basically a "realistic" mech film (so no crazy special moves, anime tropes and whatnot). I guess you could call it "space Vietnam" or Generation Kill with mechs. This thing would be 45 mins to an hour and a half and kind of be my attempt at bringing back those beautifully-animated anime OVAs that we used to get in the 80s and 90s (Cyber City, Gunbuster, BIRTH, etc). If anyone's interested, I guess I could do a Patreon thing for that and stick it up on UA-cam for free when it's done? But I understand that it's just some random thing by some random guy, and not Star Wars, so most people won't be especially excited about it (plus there have been a lot of Patreon/kickstarter scams so you have to be careful when people like myself start promising stuff!). It's pretty nice to be doing my own thing though... all the blood and violence that I like with no censors to get past. And it's mechanised jungle combat so you need a bit of violence where appropriate. And lots and lots of cockpits, joysticks, HUD displays, actual tank-based tactics etc etc. Anyway, I'll show off some of that when I have more done and you can see if you like the look of it. I'm currently trying to make the main cast as memorable as Predator or Aliens (yeah, good luck with that). If your characters are sitting in cockpits for most of the film, it needs a really good script (luckily I have an excellent writer on board to make my shitty lines actually decent) and top-tier voice acting (that'll come way later though). But really, thanks for all the support and kind words/critiques. I need to improve so please do slag off anything that looks weird in any of my future stuff and call me out if I start developing an ego. I would never have guessed this thing would get over five million views and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Good luck to you man , your animations are brilliant, is there any place you can start learning this style of animation? I'd love to have a go myself although nothing of this standard any time soon. Keep animating!
+OtaKing77077 That was brilliant. The Fleet commander, with that rock track in the background, conducted the whole battle like an orchestra--and the whole animation fit together perfectly. You are the Mozart of animation.
+OtaKing77077 I think a petition needs to started and sent to LucasFilm, if this were to become an online or TV series, hands down would be a bigger hit than Rebels.
Brendan McCallion Maybe Lucasfilm has already made a deal with him. If they don't someone will. For being one person doing the work, it's really, really good. I know Lucasfilm talked about experimental films so maybe someone referred this film to him and it caught Lucas's attention.
+Brandon Trollsten I DOUBLE THIS MAN. ANY ANIMATING COMPANY IS STUPID NOT TO HIRE THIS GUY. HEY BRANDON TROLLSTEN DO YOU HAVE STUCK CAPS LOCK ME? no? ok...
You know what? I can see the stories behind the main characters in this short. The fleet commander is a gentleman of class and bearing who received a prestigious commission when he joined because he comes from a wealthy family. However, his wealth and privilege don't dull his skills and he is a competent and ruthless career Navy officer. The pilot in the TIE fighter is the idealistic rookie who joined out of a sense of duty and a desire for adventure. He's kind of like Luke from Episode IV and just wants to do a good job and impress his superiors. The lady in the TIE Bomber is the fanatic daredevil who has had to claw her way to where she is with grit, determination, and a strong desire to see the Rebellion wiped off the face of the galaxy. She's insanely talented, but her scars and flying style show that she takes a lot of unnecessary risks and she doesn't play well with others. The older guy in the TIE Interceptor is the most senior pilot on the ship and the quiet badass who is probably the best pilot in the entire fleet. He has been doing this for a very long time and he is too tired and too wise to get caught up in messages and ideology. However, he refuses to accept a promotion, reasoning that if he keeps flying and working with the next generation of pilots he can help them stay alive a bit longer. Anyway, those are my thoughts and a big reason why I keep coming back to this film over and over again. Thank you for this, and I do hope there is more in the future.
@@dsdy1205 The one who got shot down? Sure. I see him as a guy who joined the Rebellion out of boredom, volunteered to become a fighter pilot as a way to impress the ladies, and managed to survive just long enough to become a pretty good flyboy but not good enough to survive very long.
The fleet commander is Commander Gaunt. There isn't much known about his past, except that he quickly became best pal with Tarkin, because they share the same political and strategic idea. He is a very competent officer, that always use the same tactic, that is so efficient it work everytime (probe possible rebels hideout, wait for month until one is spotted, jump on it, send waves of TIE while interdictor stop ay ship to jump outta there and force the ennemy to fight or surrender). He love fruit, offer fruit basket to his subordinate, is terrible with a blaster, but deadly with his fist and his basically an anime character when he give an order. The TIE pilot is petty officer Neel that is fresh (1 years) out the flight academy. He is a hotshot pilot that profit from the law regulation of the outer rim to grow his out of fashion sideburns. He is a Gaunt fanboy, because Gaunt don't use his TIE like canon fodder, which give him better chance to survive any battle and his biggest fear is some fighter landing a lucky hit on the bridge. He has a crush on the TIE bomber pilot (but she don't realise it). He ask to much question in briefing, despise A-wing (because they keep blowing his ass in the simulator) and has 20 confirmed kill. The TIE bomber pilot is flight lieutenant Ada. She is generally laid back, but she is a total bomber craft nutjob (she even has bomber miniatures in her room). If someone talk shit about the TIE bomber, she'll go full berserk. She is also the only known bomber pilot to fly her bomber like if it was an agile interceptor. She got her scar by hurting herself opening a closet, but keep it and pretend it was during a skirmish against 12 x-wings. She keep pushing for having custom stuff on her bomber and, with Neel's antics, she is basically the nightmare of the flight boss. Also, someone keep sending her chocolate boxes (Neel). The TIE interceptor pilot is wing commander Rosh. He was a merc before joing the imperial navy. He is probably the best pilot on the fleet, but he generally prefer to keep his tought for himself. People are constantly asking him for tips, but he just give very basic stuff like "don't get shot". He is the dude that got the most fruit from Gaunt and people don't seem to memorize his name That's from the official character chart from the vid.
@@johnwotek3816 Thank you for that quote. "Don't get shot." -Commander Rosh, ace pilot in the imperial navy, circa 19 bby to 4 aby. Thank you for your incredible words of wisdom.
This is what the actual result would be. The rebel are outclassed in terms of personnel and weaponry. The bulk of the rebels are made up by new recruits rather than seasoned veterans. In comparison the empire have clone soldiers that constantly mobilized to fight all around the galaxy.
Kulaks Metis Most rebels weren’t even military defectors, almost all were criminals, smugglers and other bad being who usually fought just for the free shit, since they could leave whenever they wanted.

This is the pre CGI style of anime. Tedious work, but when it done well it's amazing. I would have lost my shit had I seen something like this in the 80s.
Check out the World Devastator. Combination factory/smelting ship and warship. Based on what it eats and what it has to deal with, it changes its weaponry/defenses/fabrication systems. And it can self-replicate.
@Mooxieclang same. It could be cool having something like this done on a bigger scale. A movie or as small series made by ppl that aren't useless disney employees. So much potential disney throws away with the stuff they can do.
They made The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith, which those two movies about the bad guys won. Despite all of this, Disney refuse to cancelled Star Wars.
@@leonrussell9607 To note, tie fighters are far more maneuverable, and it doesn't matter if you can take a shot if that shot can't hit you to begin with.
I have so much to say about this: 1. I absolutely love the 80’s style animation it made me feel like I was watching the 80’s transformers movie all over again. 2. I love the idea of a star wars series focused around cadets and soldiers not only on the ground but in the air and space. And like others have said we can learn about various characters and reasons as to why they decided to join the empire and their journey of rising through imperial ranks.
Years later I keep coming back to this. God I’d love to see this artist make a full series like this. So much gundam and other OG anime inspiration and still is so distinctly Star Wars. Love it
4:50 This feels like they are a squadron that has been in many battles, making them not only skilled pilots but also good friends. Even it's only for a few seconds and there's no dialogue, it still feels human, it feels like they are actual characters with chemistry between them you would meet and follow in an Empire-focussed show. Brilliant!
Even though I don't get a friend vibe, its clearly communicates the older gent is in command, they're professional, and they enjoy their work. While they are the evil faction, delving into why and how they can operate this way says a lot. Even the Commander fellow of the actual ships is in control and only lets out a little glee at the end when victory is assured. Once the job is done the last we see of him is a quick turn away. He's not relishing the victory like a bunch of amateur rebels. This is work, and these guys work hard and enjoy it.
@Ryan Empire is not necessary evil. Republic was going downhill with corruption and it killed many innocent lives on the way. We see show from good guys perspective, but Republic was corrupt to the bones and made many peoples miserable until Empire stepped it. Think of Republic as Democrats nowdays in USA. Sure they use good guys blue color and shine their virtues while realistically it makes people miserable and democrat politician use good guys vibe to corrupt, spread misery around the world and enrich themselves.
And its not unrealistic either. by this point in time in the empire, the cloning facilities used in creating the clone armies have been long gone and the empire recruited just normal people and their was a definite ranking system for everyone to climb up in. That squadron we saw clearly was a seasoned veteran group that was more than likely tasked ahead of time to flank the enemy while the main force took the frontlines. as everything in a squadron is VERY structured with specific battle planes prepared ahead of the engagement. In WW2 it was very common for the more experienced pilots to be assigned special assignments in a battle like this.
@@TheRoadToArea51 An imperial I Star Destroyer actually has 48 regular TIEs, 12 interceptors and 12 bombers. A particular point to appreciate is that while the animation is top notch and there's fancy anime explosions and cool spaceships and lasers, it's not just superficial flashy spectacle. These are two military forces employing strategy and tactics, in a way that I haven't seen in Star Wars in a long time. Both sides use tactics like screening, flanking, cover, stealth, combined arms and electronic warfare. It brings the battle to life and heightens the spectacle. Truly, the Astartes of Star Wars.
That orders were being followed, ships were utilized effectively, and shields and other devices were not infallible. And the Star Destroyer Commander simply knew he had the Alliance Fleet outgunned and outmatched. But the Alliance for what they did have, gave a good accounting of themselves and put up a small, but capable fight. Had it been a main line Alliance Fleet with top of the line Mon Calamari Cruisers, it might have gone either much different, or the Imperial Detachment fighting might have taken FAR heavier losses.
This is what the Empire really should be. Not this incompetent and bloated military system that can barely maintain control over a single galaxy, while being defeated in countless battles by some scrawny group of rebels; the Empire is portrayed in this video as a terrifying and mighty regime of advanced technology and tactics, capable of destroying any enemies in their path. 10/10 animation.

I hope you realize how much this seven minute clip means to some of us. When I was 10 years old, TIE Fighter wasn't just a game-it was a cinematic experience. However, it was a cinematic experience that was limited to the confines of your player character's cockpit. The world beyond it was given life by the crude technology of the era: blocky cutscenes, mechanical voice acting, and graphics that were probably rendered in MS Paint. What you have done, Paul, is give life to a world that for twenty years has only existed in the imagination of TIE Fighter fans. You have shown that the world of TIE Fighter is even more incredible than our imaginations dared to dream. Thank you.

Vaclav Sobr I'm with you there. Though, it'd be embarrassing to think that Thrawn would have needed 3 ISD-IIs to take down a frigate a few corvettes. I'm sure Thrawn would just "study their commander's art" well enough to figure out a way to get the rebels to crash into those asteroids.
There was some kind of character sheet that expanded on the characters a bit. She's a huge fan of the TIE Bomber, gets mad when people call it slow or sluggish, and constantly pushes it past its limits.
Why ? because he did his job right, he is payed to succeed to the rebel. If he failed and fell back, well he would probably have won a execution as punishement for his failure. After all in the galactic emperial fleet, failure is not an option.
4:50 I could so see a story following these three in a squadron. The grizzled veteran and ace pilot in the Tie Interceptor, the tough as nails badass, and demolitionist who loves explosions just a bit too much in the Tie Bomber, and the new but promising rookie on a seemingly never ending lucky streak in the Tie Fighter. All three of these characters working together to bring glory to the Empire.
Just in case you haven't seen already there is a link in the description which leads to a pdf file with the info on the characters. This thing was a whole project but OtaKing didn't want to continue the story without the blessing of whomever owned Star Wars at the time of creation. Your take on the characters isn't too far from the truth however, which just adds to the credit that must be given to the creator since they could so clearly portray these characters without the use of dialogue.
How the heck did I go 8 years without knowing this exists? Not one word spoken, and still manages to have more character development and heart than literally all of the 'Disney star wars' works combined. Bravo.
What I love about this is that the Empire don't just steamroller the Rebels straight away, they actually do put up a fight, but they are hopelessly outnumbered all the same
True, and what I like is that it also shows the inherent flaw within the Rebellion. They rely too much on one-off miracles to gain the upper hand. Unknowing, that when such actions fail to bring the desired results, it ends with disasterously for them. Like, if the Imperials had an Interdictor at Hoth, the transports would've been screwed the moment Vader's ship regains function.
@@TheNapster153 One off Miralces? More like the empire being a Glass Colossus. The Fleet in this video had their shit together, but few if any other fleets will.
@@TheNapster153 Also, Palpatine himself structured the empire so that all the career oriented types would be focused on attacking, and hindering others. From denying critical info on rebel movements to withholding fire until the rebels have started their escape for a more satisfying and interesting victory, many imperial officers are so utterly stupid that it made even Palpatine himself think about why things aren't going entirely as planned.
@@RooneyHimself Sorry for the week late necro, but yeah this definitely. This is the difference between if you had actual, trained and drilled pilots under your command as opposed to way too much of the Imperial army being made up of rapidly produced 'Spaarti' clones with flash implanted skill and personality; the pilots very often were as disposable as their star fighters were. Apparently there was a rigorous screening and training process for pilots, but if there was it certainly doesn't show. From a glance at Wookiepedia this could also come down to the fact they thought keeping the TIE pilots constantly unstable and insecure would make them fight better, which any idiot who's ever felt that knows it only makes you stressed, inefficient, exhausted, and jittery, and caused constant tension and rivalries to form. This was in direct contrast to their combat doctrine of working in teams, so you got highly unstable and stressed people who're taught strategy that runs counter to the environment you place them in - a recipe for disaster.
There's more to a character then looks. ...is what I'd say if Rey had a particularly defined character. As it stands this fighter pilot is at-least equal without having said a word.
At least two revenge scenes here from the movies that I loved... There's the scene coming up on the Nebulon B frigate where the interceptor takes out the X-wing. Together with the sound, it's a reversal of a similar scene in Return of the Jedi when the Millennium Falcon is pursuing TIEs beneath a Nebulon B. Then there's the use of the ion cannon on the transport ship. A very similar ship was fleeing Hoth when ground-based ion cannons disabled a Star Destroyer in orbit. Awesome!
Astrid Nipflake I wrote a novel about stormtroopers but I kinda toss it away. I guess I was wrong, there are someone who likes to see their point of view :')
Well most Stormtroopers you see in the original trilogy weren't clones. Most of the clone army had died out and it wasn't uncommon for normal people to be recruited for the Imperial war machine
Astrid Nipflake I'd suggest reading the novel "lost stars" then. It delves into 2 Imperial cadets going through training and combat etc. and it's fantastic!
I wish the star wars movies were more like this where the empire is posing an actual threat and are an intimidating enemy. It would make it a lot more interesting of a fight and struggle for the rebels.
I like to think they could be a threat if they'd stop investing everything in really flimsy superstations that can be cracked open with a few pounds of C4 and a fighter or two.
Harrison Smith its just me that watch this AWESOME and GORGEUSLY beatiful animation and at the same time feels a bit of Anger, anger because its the really strong empire that wins against the weak but strong rebel allience,i dont knowbut it gives gives me agony see the winning empire
Just play the Game TIE Fighter. That game solely focuses on the Empire and actually gives them character. Also, it show that the Empire isn't just dealing with Rebel terrorists. They also had to deal with criminals, pirates, the sepan civil war, and even traitors like Zaarin
If this was an anime, I would watch the hell out of it, dissecting every scene and cosplaying as it's characters at comic-con. It is fucking amazing, and it's a tragedy it isn't 4 seasons of 30 minute episodes. It's even more tragic than the story of Darth Plageuis the Wise.
One of the attentions to detail I really love (besides everything about the interior of every aircraft) is how all of the explosions slowly 'bloom' outward and balloon like they would in a vacuum. Unrelated, but I also adore that the pilot of the basic TIE was able to take a hit and keep flying instead of just dying in one hit.

One guy did this. This shows what one person with dedication, knowledge of the lore, and passion can win out against multimillion dollar productions.
Actually 3 the music and part of the animation was made by other guys. But yes

It’s really how Star Wars should be

Imagine being such a badass that you fly a bomber like an interceptor
This is the perfect example of why the rebels had to hide their bases and fleets
The empire was just to powerful and well trained, if they had their main base exposed, the rebels would have to run
Almost all rebellions that attempted to openly start a war was crushed, the empire is perfect for all out war
That is why the rebels rely on hit and run attacks, that is why every loss is a major blow to the rebels, and that is how they are able to score victories
@@buttlord2223 Oh that's ok, but they treat it as the ship will stop in the vacuum of space because it runs out of fuel and will suddenly lose all its momentum just because(?)
It's so dumb, that I can't just unsee it.

This, ladies and gentlemen. Is what happens when you strip away the rebel’s invulnerable plot armor, absolute annihilation.
Yep
Absolutley right!
These Imperial recruitment holos are getting better every day.

Hello there!
Here's an update, since a lot of people have shown interest:
I haven't heard anything from the folks at Lucasfilm and I wouldn't want to do more without their blessing, so I can't really do any more TIE Fighter at the moment, sadly.
I actually have one of those new-fangled Twitter things where I'm posting updates on that if you fancy a look: twitter.com/OtaKing77077
I already have concepts and pre-production designs done on an original animated film which is my own IP; basically a "realistic" mech film (so no crazy special moves, anime tropes and whatnot).
+OtaKing77077 a show strongly inspired by star wars/ tie fighter? I see you conundrum

@@SatansPooper noo which episode?
I like how, even 9 years later, this is STILL popping up in my recommendeds
Can you do this for the Xwing dude too please?
@@dsdy1205 you mean luke Skywalker and R2-D2?
He is the dude that got the most fruit from Gaunt and people don't seem to memorize his name
That's from the official character chart from the vid.

These are two military forces employing strategy and tactics, in a way that I haven't seen in Star Wars in a long time. Both sides use tactics like screening, flanking, cover, stealth, combined arms and electronic warfare. It brings the battle to life and heightens the spectacle.

That orders were being followed, ships were utilized effectively, and shields and other devices were not infallible. And the Star Destroyer Commander simply knew he had the Alliance Fleet outgunned and outmatched.
@@RooneyHimself found the rebel meat rider
That laser blast right through that tie fighter from the Corvette was serious 😮
Impressive... most impressive...
I agree, my lord.
Its a shame Disney couldn't hire this animator to create a new show. But instead we get... Resistance...
@@VaderReviews it is indeed a shame, my lord.
Hopefully some day we'll get a real quality show like this from Star Wars.
@@VaderReviews I hope so, lord vader.
Seriously, boys, who needs Rey when we have that beauty of a tie bomber pilot?
look, i dont usually simp... but... random TIE bomber girl is better than rey in every conceivable way.
I'd rather have her be cannon than rey
@@sansgolem168 damn straight
Took the words right out of my mouth
There's more to a character then looks.
...is what I'd say if Rey had a particularly defined character. As it stands this fighter pilot is at-least equal without having said a word.
I love how you can tell that at 6:09 he's saying "They're trying to escape. Target that transport"
And they use ion cannons to not destroy it so they could probably send a boarding team later
I just loved the Admiral and his "Ready! Aim! F@CK EM UP!!!" Pose
Use ion cannons tho I want prisoners 😈
I thought he said “switch to ion cannons” instead
I took it more as he realized there was a chance to get some intel. Hence the ion cannons after the chin scratching.
The TIE Bomber girl is more compelling in 5 minutes with no dialogue than Rey was in her entire trilogy.
This is how it would’ve gone down if Thrawn was in charge
This would happen to Luke if that happened 3:02
Did no one else read the official books of the movies? This is stated to what happened to several of the groups that fled hoth
This is how it would've gone down if they removed the plot armor
No clue who Thrawn is.
@@wh3nderson95 he's a blue dude with red eyes that was an absolute military genius in legends, recently brought back into canon by the rebels series.
This is everything I didn't know I wanted in a Star Wars anime
Star Wars if it was made by fans, for fans, not by agenda-pushing corporate people for their twitter followers.

A question: Are the Star Destroyers 3D models or are they drawn every single shot?
*You, Sir, have won the heart of countless Star Wars fans all over the galaxy*
*Thank you for your hard work!*
Awesome!
you never think of The men and women Who wear those stormtrooper helmets. they are stil People. I love this video because of that.
Astrid Nipflake I wrote a novel about stormtroopers but I kinda toss it away. I guess I was wrong, there are someone who likes to see their point of view :')
Natthanon Suktian I Would love to read it! They are People stil, no matter how you turn it.
Well most Stormtroopers you see in the original trilogy weren't clones. Most of the clone army had died out and it wasn't uncommon for normal people to be recruited for the Imperial war machine
So does the rebellion
Technically (in the originals i guess?) The empire IS winning.. but off-screen. We never see how crazy BIG and STRONG the empire actually is.
Just play the Game TIE Fighter. That game solely focuses on the Empire and actually gives them character. Also, it show that the Empire isn't just dealing with Rebel terrorists. They also had to deal with criminals, pirates, the sepan civil war, and even traitors like Zaarin
Callum you gotta pick one
You can't have a "weak but strong rebel alliance."
Those two are opposites
If this was an anime, I would watch the hell out of it, dissecting every scene and cosplaying as it's characters at comic-con.
It is fucking amazing, and it's a tragedy it isn't 4 seasons of 30 minute episodes.
It's even more tragic than the story of Darth Plageuis the Wise.
One word bro: "Passion"
*Nothing is more tragic than Darth Plageuis the Wise*
66 like bruuuh
"It will be done my lord intesifies"
nah the tragedy of darth plageuis the wise is sadder than John Wick's puppy
James Bennett I get what you’re saying, but what about the droid attack on the Wookiee’s?
One of the attentions to detail I really love (besides everything about the interior of every aircraft) is how all of the explosions slowly 'bloom' outward and balloon like they would in a vacuum. Unrelated, but I also adore that the pilot of the basic TIE was able to take a hit and keep flying instead of just dying in one hit.
