- Nate Evans Jr. discusses an issue within black communities that persists due to the lack of mental health awareness. Nathan Evans Jr. is a First-Generation High School & First-Generation College graduate. He creates experiences for apprehensive students to feel worthy when they are waging a war in their mind. Nate is a #1 best-selling author, a highly requested speaker, mindset coach and podcast host. He also is a youth mentor and educational consultant. He lives by the quote, "CHANGE WHAT WE NORMALIZE™” which was inspired by his mission to eradicate the stigmas around mental health amongst Gen-Z. This passion was birthed by his own battles with mental health issues as a teen and young adult due to childhood trauma in which he overcame. With this motivation, he has developed workshops for high schools, colleges and non-profits based around mental health, emotional wellness and resilience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
We also lack emotional fluency because we have a subsect in our community who allow celebrities, sports stars to be our heros, and this deep attachment to pop-culture and obsession of trying to be viewed as "cool."
Or validation
This!!! So true. And we look up to people whom haven’t done the healing they need to
It’s deeper than this simple minded shii….
Agreed and they take on a self centered attitude like those celebrities
It’s a shame that this young brother doesn’t get the recognition and respect he deserves in Atlantic County , NJ . Keep up the good work.
I’m sure this young man gets the respect he deserves, do you mean you want him to become popular or well shared ? I like my gems to be well kept secrets, like appreciated amongst his community because the ones that blow up change the format and ruin the magic, among other things. This young man deserves a particular type of crowd that genuinely respects and understands his craft & he’ll be just fine ❤
Thank you for speaking on this! Our young males of color need to hear it from men in their community!!
This was absolutely beautiful. This is needed in our communities. So simple steps but because the trauma deeply rooted in our community many need to be taught just those 4 steps!!
I needed to hear this today.. Somebody still cares. 🙏🏼💯

I don't often go through and listen to Tedx Talks, but this one...my family was there but I definitely dealt with some of the things here... I'm here for it...I want to help.

🦋🌎I hope Nate’s endeavors for emotional fluency and creating a safe space becomes nation wide and global. Thank you for addressing how intergenerational trauma, abuse and dysfunction needs to stop so the healing can begin.🦋🌎

😮 That only 18,000 people have watched 👀 this as 2023 is the tragic 😥 😔 Shame on the process that doesn't push this information forward!!!
51k in a year doesn’t seem bad. However people have to grow or want to grow to become emotionally fluent so they need to have in interest in this topic.
This is real
Bless
