Within the first 5 minutes driving the thing I drifted the entire 360° freeway entrance perfectly. The rear diff was a thing of beauty. It was on or off. No bullshit. The gear ratios were kind of odd, BIG gap on the 2-3 shift but 3-4 was unbelievable. When you revved it the thing cracked like a whip. Seriously i had a super tricked out Audi b5 Rs4 at the time. I converted it to a single turbo, haltech stand alone ecu, lightweight single mass flywheel and a whole bunch of other stuff. It made 512hp at all 4 wheels. My point being, with that flywheel being less than 3 lbs in my audi, the thing sounded very impressive. The jag sounded more tight. Anyone know what im talking about?? @slickhitler power steering that works at low speeds (to help you turn the wheels) makes the feedback from the front tyres at high speed very weak. its common these days to get merc and bmws that automatically switch off the PS once over 30km/hr because while the vehicle is in motion the force required to turn the steering wheel is signicantly reduced. Most japanese cars were locked to 280hp and you know that. Hottest shit from europe was like McLaren F1 with 621hp. 911 had 400 max with 2 turbos slapped in. Why no one complains about Veyron with it's 8.0l W16 with 4 turbochargers making 1k hp? Even your Supra with a turbo from a truck can make more.
Healt Desimal mmmkay my Supra back when the Viper came out made 320hp stock and with literally 4 parts made 410whp/~450crank, more than the Viper and yes in the early 90s. An intake, downpipe, exhaust and boost controller got you sub 4 second 0-60mph times on an otherwise stock car. The fact that Dodge FINALLY made that much power is a fine example of how incompetent they were in the 90s. The OEM couldn't even beat a mildly upgrade 183/3.0L I6 with an 8.0L V10. Cars back then had to rely on mechanical engineering and driver skill to not kill you as soon as you turn the wheel, but now you can have 1000bhp and driver aids do most of the work for you.
To those slagging off the TVR Speed 12; the first Speed 12, which can be seen in Clarksons video on here, and my video of it racing, was producing around 680bhp in race form. I've spoken to the guy who raced it, and his son who was in the car perched on the fuel tank during the filming. It had problems cornering as the tubular chassis wasn't really up to the task of containing the power, however the acceleration could leave a Mclaren F1 standing. That 220S could use some stiffened rear Suspension!
Guys how did bob ross take clarkson’s spot?
I'm trying to think what the song was that was about to kick in at the end there.
Slower or not, I much prefer the original classy XJ220 than the 220S.
Yes me too.
Yup, much cleaner lines
@DeanoTheLegend87
I dont think the V12 would have been needed. I am glad they did only a V6. it just showed that less cylinders does not mean slower.
STEALTH TORNADO what a cool name!
nice to see some engines and real car information on top gear
In the world !
My old Lotus Europa special was 125hp and then 140hp after a Vegantune tune up and that felt VERY fast.
450BHP isn't that much today. A lot in the 90's but average today. Most 911's have that now.
Well the Lotus Carlton had 377 bhp, that was enough to make it the undisputed king of the fast saloons during the 90s.
You got Hellcats with 700Hp and cost a fraction of what some cars with much less cost. Only $65,000
That car is pure jizz cocaine
450 to the wheels average??? I guess for super cars
Cars back then had to rely on mechanical engineering and driver skill to not kill you as soon as you turn the wheel, but now you can have 1000bhp and driver aids do most of the work for you.
Leaded petrol is not illegal.
It's just difficult to get hold of.

Him:There you have it.The ultimate tuned car.
Me:Realises that there's still 3 minutes to go.
Also him: _Or maybe not_
That colour totally ruins the XJ220, looks like a kit car
To those slagging off the TVR Speed 12; the first Speed 12, which can be seen in Clarksons video on here, and my video of it racing, was producing around 680bhp in race form. I've spoken to the guy who raced it, and his son who was in the car perched on the fuel tank during the filming. It had problems cornering as the tubular chassis wasn't really up to the task of containing the power, however the acceleration could leave a Mclaren F1 standing.
The Cerbera Speed 12, which is the big red thi
Some people don't understand that the aftermarket passed 1000 horses in the 60's. ALL cars have tons of potential if you're willing to compromise comfort, user friendlyness, fuel consumption and/or reliability.
Cost is usually what "holds back" most cars though, they are engineered to affordable, they wanna sell them after all.
That TWR XJ220S is finally coming to a racing game... Forza Horizon 5 ever since seeing this clip av wanted it in a racing game hahaha can't wait.
Jags have way more class than those other rich-boy toys.
Classic Jezza! 🔥
I really enjoyed it when they used proper classical music in their reviews, it suits the more relaxed and refined style of presentation.
awesome, i want a power steering off button on my car. You can feel when it's close to the edge.
BUT: The Manufacturers could homologate Evoution models which only had to be produced in 20 examples, like the S1 and the 205 T16 Evo2.
I miss my first generation Viper. Lots of fun it was just not in any rain lol
This VCR had the snooker recorded onto it WAY too many times lol! Those where the days!
Where can i watch full series of young jeremy?
