For those curious about COVID19's impact on this channel: - At the moment the UK government's advice it only to stay at home if you or someone in your household is showing symptoms of the virus. Right now Becky & I are both fine. - Despite this, we're obviously staying inside a lot more just incase. - The two of us driving around the countryside for a couple of hours per week by ourselves and not coming into contact with anyone is very low risk anyway. So unless the government advice changes, or one of us start showing symptoms of COVID19, there WILL still be 2 Tesla videos per week!
Guess what time it is! :D *It’s corona time-* I’m glad it won’t have an effect on the channel, although, if COVID-19 does get worse I think we’ll be fine without videos, haha! (I’m sure you know that though loll)

The interior movement detection is only activated after the car stays still for a while without a key in range. Loud noises directly in or next to the car will trigger the alarm (again, after it has been sitting still for some time) as well as opening a door from the inside. Oh and lifting it up or moving it will also trigger it. I also drive a Tesla Model 3 by the way
I was honestly thinking that living next to someone with a Tesla would be quite pleasant instead of by people who have cars with alarms that go off when a leaf falls near them or something.
According to the owner manual, you need to wait 5 minutes after locking the car to enable the security system. Also in European version, there are two ultra sonic sensor next to the rear seats lights
@@mikec2845 definitely not an arm, but in some cars without a window motor sensor can remove a finger if you aren't careful, but i'm pretty sure tesla has a motor detector so that lil jimmy doesn't hurt his finger when he winds up the window
You answered your own question. You said: "Right I'm shaking the car around like as much as I can without wanting to damage it" (11:46) Someone who's *breaking* in doesn't care about damaging it. It's only designed to go off when someone *is* damaging it. Becky's test at the end if probably the most useful one. Sentry mode should be enabling when that happens (doors unlocking from inside while motion occurs outside, next to the car) and also when the car is shook, but not the alarm. The alarm should only be for people trying to force entry e.g. extreme force on door handles, breaking windows, force between panels, etc. I know you said that you get a notification when the alarm goes off but I'm 99% sure you also get a notification when just sentry mode activates. You're still alerted.
Yeah, there definitely needs to be some work done on this. I’m if there were someone who tired this, this would really just be disappointing, even though in the end it did set off, it really needs some work.
Yeah, I agree. Although, not all technology can be perfect. I’m still glad it at least set off once, after all, that’s better than nothing. Luckily because people like Jack, do these videos, the people making the cars can find ways to improve and fix problems with that car, haha! :)
Some features of the alarm system are only activated after the car has been sitting still without a key in range for some time, the alarm sometimes triggers just because there is a big fly trapped on the inside of the car. It will also trigger when a door is opened from the inside or when the car is moved.
This is totally not a good test a thief wouldn’t push the car and clime on top of it, it would break windows etc. And when he was sitting in the car while it was locked and the alarm didn’t go of that was because when the car was closed the weight sensors of the car felt somebody their so it new that their was a passenger in the car and not a thief.
We own Tesla model S, and the tilt/intrusion mode is the car detects tilts, or movement of the car. For example if someone tries to physically steal the car by taking it on a flatbed or something. You should turn that of of if you are going on a ferry.😀
That car does not really need a car alarm, because it automatically locks the wheels when locked, and there is almost no way to hot wire it. So that is why it is alittle hard to set the alarm off.
From what you show it looked like when the alarm went off the cars' sentry mode was turned off, and looking at the screen when you showed it, it could be that the alarm is disarmed when sentry mode is engaged ? Did you try turning sentry mode off on that screen to see if then you got control off turning the alarm on and off ?
Since you didn't have dog mode on its senses dogs in the car so it turned on the alarm to let you know just in case I feel forgot a dog or a baby inside the car so it will turn on the alarm to let you know just in case if you forgot
If you want to set the alarm off with the sentry mode on you have to bang hard on the car so like if you are a thief the car can hear if you was trying to break the window
Jack... the handle you were using to open the car from the inside ALWAYS opens the door, that handle is a manual release in case the car ran out of battery or shutoff for some other reason. So obviously the rest of the car automatically unlocks to let the passengers out.
If the sentry mode is on, the alarm is set automatically, and the music will play. ( triggered by loud noise. Try it next time to slap a window stronger than you did) If the sentry mode is off, you can choose whether or not you wanna engage the alarm, but the music won't play. You've probably noticed since the video. Cheers
8:00 It's pretty standard for cars' interior door handles to work with the car locked, unless you activate deadlocks as well. I assume the Teslas have them. Deadlocks would prevent the interior handles from functioning as well.
Our Volvo V90: Normal lock, after a minute or so, the inside handles doesn't work. If you use "downgraded alarm mode", the inside locks works and the motion detector inside is shut off.
I think the Tesla can detect the weight and choose if it´s an animal or a human. Maybe thats why the alarm didn´t set off while Jack has been on the backseat.
I know impacts set it off. A severe (and expensive) hailstorm set mine off three separate times based on the alerts I got on my phone. This was on a 2019.36.2.1 though, and I haven't attempted to simulate a break-in since.
The alarm can either go off by loud sound like music or if you hit the car hard the touches you were doing were like baby touchs you need to actually hit the car hard.
I expect it to at least do warning beeps when the window is down while locking, or the door opened from inside shortly after locked, or the door closed after it is locked (if that's possible). And relock the door thereafter.
mostly all car alarms have a sensor somewhere in the front (for example my bmw series 3 gt has a sensor attatched to the lower part of the rear view mirror) and that sensor detects movement inside for example if a window is broken(supposed to at least), it''s not connected to the doors from what i know
I think it uses the microphones to detect if a window shatters or something like that. You could try to make a really loud noise next to the car and see if that triggers the alarm.
Jack, the alarm has a warning alarm which warns someone they are handling it too hand/ being too agressive with it, if you carry on it would set off the alarm.
And, Jack & Becky, this with coronavirus is _serious_ - we love your videos, but we would like to watch them in the years to come, too. _Realy_ do avoid contact with other people.
FYI, you're placing the key card on the wrong part of the B-pillar. It doesn't go over the camera, you're suppose to start below the came and swipe down. And it's not useless and really doesn't need improvements...it's designed to tell the difference between someone bumping it and someone legitimately trying to break it. A good way to trip it is to go around the car, constantly pulling the door handles while banging on the glass.
The car alarm is very good. I was stupid and locked the door car in a car park while watching Netflix . The alarm went of twice and believe me it was VERY loud. I didn’t know that if you lock a car and you are inside, the alarm goes off. Your M3 alarm didn’t go off bc your girlfriend had a key card on her near the car. Even though the keycard needs to be tapped on the door pillar to open, if the window is down I guess that the car would open, but when the alarm went off for you, the window was down meaning that the car wouldn’t open meaning that the alarm went off. So the alarm isn’t useless -it works very well, just make sure there are now keycards near the car next time.
