I think that there should be sensitivity settings for the alarm. If you want to make it really sensitive or take some beating before going off.

i think with them sending footage to your phone, you could also maybe trigger the alarm? that way it can scare the person off. But I definitly agree that Tesla should notify the driver. i feel like it'd help a lot. I'm glad to see that the alarm got better

Jack, the Alarm will only set off if there is motion detected inside the car. Like when you got in the car, it would let you in the passenger but not the Drivers because it thought you wanted to drive off with it. Hope this helped. :)

I think that one of the reasons why it doesn't trigger very easy is because of the fact that it could trigger to other things like a rock chiping up from the road from under a tire of a passing car could ping of the car and cause it to go off if it was super sensitive. But with that being said, I think they should add sensitivity settings that let you choose how sensitive the alarm is.
The most basic alarms use a single voltage sensor to determine when a theft or break-in attempt is being made. This sensor monitors the static voltage of the car's electrical system and triggers the alarm when it senses a drop in voltage, such as when a door or trunk is opened and the interior lights go on.

Imagine having your daily walk and passing this man with bright pink hair attempting to break into a car using a cushion .
As with a lot of cars there is an ultrasonic sensor that is doing most of the alarm sensor work, it’s at the front where the hazard warning button is. If there is air movement that is what is triggering it, and having the window open may also make it less sensitive as there is already air movement. I believe it is expected in the next major update to potentially have sentry notifications and maybe streamed or at least a still picture of you car. The main issue with live stream is that it uses a lot of bandwidth

There is probably a limit on how long the alarm can go off for.
And I think your phone would get a notification when the alarm goes off so you could probably unlock then relock the car from the app or something

Yeah, I think that would be a really beneficial thing to have notifications when sentry mode turns on, I hope Tesla sees this!
Any chance it’s because the car recognises you and you don’t get notified. Try it with a friend that’s never been in the car before and see if it still works same way. Just a suggestion the car might recognise the owners of the car.

The problem in making the alarm more sensitive, is that accidental activations become way more common.
Tesla has a relatively sensitive alarm for a car
With the sentry cam sending notifications to your phone when it detects motion it should also give you an option to set off the alarm to try and scare off the person who may be trying to do something to the car
Now we are just waiting for jack to paint his car pink!

As well as the notification for sentry cam, it should allow you to turn the car alarm on from your phone, I think that could scare off someone who’s trying to get in or just acting dodgy around the car!

In the next one you should try climbing in the drivers side window, and then turning the wheel or pressing the hazard button. Also try pressing the trunk button on the outside.

I've heard a rumor from some decent sources that the car will set off the alarm if it hears a glass-breaking sound. Maybe roll down a window (so it can hear) and break a vase or some other glass outside the car to test this? Be sure to put a tarp or something on the ground to make clean up easy and don't run any over!

That is actually an interesting idea. But usually the person would have dog mode on so it will take a little more for it to set off the alarm.
Plus he probably wouldn’t stick his poor dogs in there with that loud alarm

Very very very interesting to watch as I am a new tesla owner and learning about the car. Just a couple of days ago the sentry mode alarm went off and I did not understand why it went off.

jack there is a way so the alarm doesn't go off while you're inside the car you tap on the screen when it's blank and press the lock button at the top of the screen and then you can move around in the car and the alarm won't go off but remember when you come back you will have to press the lock button again to unlock it so you can get back in the car.
How did I not know that Jack was left handed until now
If your ever in a situation like that time you were at McDonald’s, tap the screen when it goes off and it should automatically turn to camp mode. If you decide to leave the car after that then it will lock. If your concerned that it hasn’t turned to camp mode you can always turn it on before the person leaves with the car key.

Your test seems to suggest that one should not enable Sentry mode while sleeping in the back (e.g camping, etc.). Right? I know for fact that Sentry mode won't trigger any event while sitting in the driver seat with door locked. But that won't be the case when sleeping in the back.
