hey man your adventures are great was unsure on my next dual sport but definitely going to be getting the DRZ ...Now i need to find a way to ride one in Australia
Hey man, greetings from Cape Town. Love your videos - have watched a bunch of them now. And really enjoying that NSW scenery. Not a bike rider myself, but if I were to ever own one it would have to be a DRZ with more or less the mods you've done. Plenty of similar tracks around my part of the world, so it's a very tempting thought. Happy & safe riding.
The_katman, mate you’ll have to get yourself one. No better feeling exploring on two wheels. Doesn’t always have to be high speed crazy stuff, just get out on the bush and have fun 👍
@Handlebar Monkey Moto Adventures, those good decisions must come with old age. Too many times I have become stuck on a hill by myself hating life and breaking things on the bike. Life experiences. Thanks for watching.
Two weeks into my 2021 DRZ. Love it! Newer to off-road so I’m trying to learn everything I can. I’m on the central coast of California and great weather year round. Great video. Thank you
@John Heitman. Congrats on your purchase. They are a great bike that just keeps on going. Don’t shy away from rough looking hills and rutted out tracks. Best way to learn is just to go for it. In Australia we call the DRZ a tractor because it just plots along and goes up everything nice and easy. 🙂
Mate, if you're gonna carry bags and fuel etc, you need to upgrade your rear shock! Heavier spring and Racetech valving, it will make the world of difference. It will reduce the bouncing around heaps and increase stability and safety! Do it ASAP. Great vid mate, keep it up! Cheers from a Kiwi.
@munter10 my bike had a heavier rear spring and re-valving done 6 months post buying it back in the day, so I could feel the difference. Works a treat. Best money I ever spent. The bouncing around and going slower is more so my sub frame doesn’t hate me. I have reinforced it but still worry about it breaking one day.
Great vid. Reliving my previous rides. Same tracks too. Lance, do you have the link to Martin the van guy at 14:08. He looks interesting. Now, the kayakers. Names or type of boat? My son will know them or competed with them probably. Last point, solo riding is great. I was guilty of following obscure trails too. Recommend an EPIRB or something like my Garmin Inreach. It saved me once. Long story but worth every cent.
@Greg B, yeah there is some awesome riding out that way. His channel on UA-cam is called Martin vanman. He is a top bloke and takes his 4wd van out locally all the time. Can’t remember the kayakers name but I saw him competing in the recent Olympics. Don’t think he went to good though.
Well done great ride and video sometimes the weather is not great I have been riding for a long time some 40 years, and looking back they are the best rides and times...Bob
Great Video mate! Where you turned around at 17:00 was on Spanish Steps trail in Lithgow, You'll be glad you turned around where you did, whilst the 1000m through the valley floor in and out of small creek crossings is nice the climb out the other side is full of rock steps and some rough terrain. I recently got a DRZ400E and know that Lithgow area really well from many years 4wdriving up there if you are ever keen to go for a ride in that area let me know! :)
@aussiercjordy ah really. I have heard of the Spanish steps but never really knew where they were. Well that track and many others around there will be getting done by the DRZ in the coming months. I just need to covert my bike back into a enduro bike after my Simpson run. Certainly not set up to handle that rough stuff right now, she is looking a little worse for wear.
Spanish Steps is on the climb out of the valley on the other side, sounds good to me mate! Happy to give the steps a crack on the bike one day with ya!
@@aussiercjordy sorry for the short notice bud. If your keen I’m heading out to Lithgow tomorrow 12/06/21 on my own. My bike is in enduro mode and im going to attempt all the tracks from this video. If you get this in time DM through my Insta link.
It will definitely handle carrying the weight plus able to carry more of it. Much better for the long hauls. In terms of the hard riding, that’s the compromise I guess. Capable but just a bigger bike to handle.
@Ed Ca, nah mate, just in the hotter months you’ll get a fair few of the top ten most poisonous snakes in the world floating around and some pretty poisonous spiders. Otherwise maybe the odd wild dog floating around. That’s about it really.
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer I seen in other videos that tigers , bears, ostriches chase people riding bikes 😄😎👍 it is funny watching but in real life is scary as hell
Great content mate. Stumbled across your channel because im looking at buying a DRZ. Im also in Sydney and looking to do similar weekend trips. I subscribed and look forward to seeing your next adventure.
@Peter Devlin, thanks for watching, hopefully my videos have sold you on buying a DRZ. There an awesome all rounder, certainly have their downfalls (as does any bike) but for the money you spend and their durability you can’t go wrong. Great day or multi day rides around our area to 👍

@john tractor. Mate you’ll love the 606’s, I highly rate them and if you just trust the tyre you’ll be surprised how well it handles even in the wet. I dare to say you’ll be faster through the winds than a road bike. Just ensure you pump them up to 18psi if doing decent road stretches than back down to 15psi or even 13psi depending on the weight on the bike. For an all round tyre their unreal. My opinion anyway.
Actually the JD3x3 mod is like night&day to performance, especially down low. Worth doing. If you don't want to buy an exhaust upgrade, then drill the baffle holes out (I think I used 4mm drill) so it opens up the exhaust but doesn't lose torque due to being too open. Pretty affordable upgrade, really. Buy the JD Jet kit and the rest is labour. Then down the line, when you find a FMF Powerbomb exhaust for a bargain, BAM!! Good to go! I've seen a fair bit of the blue mountains but not the Bridle Track. Love the Newnes, have done a lot of 4WDing there. Shame about the fires....they ruined my VIc High Country tour and then Covid hit shortly afterwards and haven't been back since as I live is QLD.
Yeah my drz is lucky enough to have a 3x3 rubber grommet. So I can just take it out and the hole is already there. I have been thinking of getting an exhaust and remove my grommet but I just trash the bike and my current exhaust is full of dints and scratches. Feels like I’d waste my money with a new exhaust and just watching it get beat up. 😕 The Bridal track is pretty tame but it’s the views and slower riding pace that makes it a top spot to go to. Not much traffic on it either these days. Definitely recommend it for the bikes.
So you have re jetted your carb already, then? The 3x3 stands for 3" square hole x 3 areas of modification (airbox, jetting, exhaust). Certainly helps with low down torque and boy does she fire up in the revs too, helping over taking traffic, etc.
@@Kaegis nah she is still stock standard but I only need the exhaust if I was to go ahead. My model comes with the jetting equivalent to the JD kit already and the air box hole is prefabricated in. Slap on an exhaust and pull the grommet out and I’m good to go.
@Bobcat, yeah you can’t go wrong with a DRZ. It will get the job done every time. It’s an aftermarket tank. I got it from Safari Tanks, they are based in Victoria. Mine is the smaller of the two 17L but holds 20L.

@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer yeah one of the riders is my dad, i love making as many memories with him as i can coz i know one day he wont be here. I dread the day 😢 The other rider is my best mate. Yeah its always fun riding with others. It was supposed to be a total of 7 riders doing the crossing but have pulled out now.
Thanks bud. You've just reminded me of the importance of going ultra-light. Less is more. Just a pity that 'less' is also most expensive, somewhat ironically,
@Alex Fladung mate I can assure you my ‘less is more’ is also cheaper. Everything I have on my kit including the bike is the cheapest in the market. But you are right the top ‘spec’ ultra light gear, bikes etc is expensive. That’s why I love the DRZ it’s one of the cheapest bikes to buy and run on the market.
I've just put a deposit on a 2019 with 1250 kilometers on it. I'm paying top dollars for it. There are basically none for sale. I was also looking at the klx300, the klr650 and was considering the ktm 390 adventure. Decide to go for the DRZ. It will be better suited for me after watching a ton of videos and reviews on youtube. I have a crotch rocket at the moment but will either lose my licence or will kill myself. The DRZ will be way more fun.
Mate good choice. I was the same when I was on the road bikes. Just one ride away from loosing my licence. Since adventure riding I have never looked back. Best decision I ever made many many years ago. The DRZ will do you proud.
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer Why not give you an update. :) I ended up not buying the 2019. I bought an 09 SM instead, with 9600 km. It's already jetted with a Yoshimura full exhaust system, hand guards, rear luggage rack, engine case savers, a copy of the service manual, a 41 tooth sprocket, the bike has 15/44. The reason is 2 days before I was going to go to Nova Scotia, from New Brunswick, the Sm pop up on on Facebook for 4000$ Canadian. The 2019 was 7400$. I had to drive about 3 1/2 hours one way to get it. With the price of gas, I'm sure you get it hehehe. The SM was an hour away. I am trying to find a set of wheels, 21" front and 18" rear. I may just order the rims and the spokes and just re lace my hubs if I can't find a set at a reasonable price. I love the bike. It's got lost of power. Some guy built a single track in the woods in front of where I live. About a one min ride from the door of my RV. I believe it's over 6 km long. The bike is not really made for it but I still go ride it. It's good practice and it will definitely make me a better rider.
@@nonameyet7162 awesome stuff. I believe the SM has a longer and stronger rear sub frame as well. So it will fair well with the weight on it. Sounds good though, once you get your wheels and maybe play around with your suspension (I would say it would be quite stiff if it’s road orientated), maybe not, you’ll have a great off road bike. Just check your read sag, you want about 100mm to 105mm. For the off road stuff anyway. 👍
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer At first I found the suspension was way too soft, and it was lowered also. I installed the original linkage and raised it back up and I adjusted the suspension to the factory settings. It is definitely stiff but I think it rides better now than when I first got it. I will keep playing with the settings till I find what works for me. I haven't measured the sag yet but I think it's pretty close to 100mm. I need to buy a chain so I can try the 14/47 sprockets that I just bought. I might buy a 51 or 52 also. I installed a kenda trak Master on the rear. Still looking for a front knobby. The wheels are 17" and there ain't too many choices. I may end up just putting a rear tire on the front. The Continental T80 TwinDuro front is slippery I find. It had the same on the rear.
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer I got my chain today and got my 14/47 sprocket installed. What a difference in that single track that I do. Got some boots too. I registered in a scramble race for tomorrow. First time I will be racing. It will be fun. 😁
@Max Moriarty, mate I just finished the Simpson trip five days ago. So I will definitely be giving that trip a miss for a few years to come lol. Thanks for the invite though. Good luck with your trip and channel.

Drz is awesome, but it also helps with you being as tall a person as you are. Because I am 5.4” and I can only fucking imagine putting my Drz through such terrain. I bet she secretly loathes me. Another entertaining content though.
@zrij21 haha I was cracking up at your comment. You’d hate my DRZ with the extra high comfort seat. Yeah my height definitely helps me man handle the bike on the tough stuff. But you would be in heaven on the open roads with straight legs and or standing up. My knees extend out past the handle bars and when I stand up my torso is horizontal with the ground. So we are even. All DRZ love their owners. Well most 😉
Lol @zrij21 I’m 6’2 and even with my seat cut down by a shorter previous owner, I find it hard to get my feet down to stop the bike going over on me in the slow tight stuff at times. I could do with bar risers just for a more comfortable riding position though.

Thanks mate I’ll try to put together a good Video of my experience, just hope COVID doesn’t wreck it like last years plans.
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer yeah one of the riders is my dad, i love making as many memories with him as i can coz i know one day he wont be here. I dread the day 😢
The other rider is my best mate. Yeah its always fun riding with others. It was supposed to be a total of 7 riders doing the crossing but have pulled out now.
What's your phone charger setup?
Mate just a standard iPhone charger. After the fact the charger cable was damaged from the rain. In all my years of riding that’s a first for me.
Doing simpson desert solo in july/August starting a UA-cam channel. My profile picture lists they rough trip...keen?
@Max Moriarty, mate I just finished the Simpson trip five days ago. So I will definitely be giving that trip a miss for a few years to come lol. Thanks for the invite though. Good luck with your trip and channel.
@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer hahaha bit of a mission was it lol turned you off it for that long lol
@@4x4maximus I wouldn’t do it solo again as that has now been ticked off. I’d go unsupported again one day in a group to make it more enjoyable.
However I now need to work towards my other adventure riding location. So yeah the Simpson is dead to me now haha.
Thoughts silver tree and the light against them , and with the red dirt trails ahead going up !!!!!!!. always been the best place in Australia . what is better than that , then maybe a few mates to share a campfire with Ya and a few beers .to say how good it is without being there..... is not good ,,,, .. what's not to like Mate . But stop whining ..you have it better than most !!!!!!!!!!!...
Another great video of another great adventure. Was fun to bump into each other! Here is the short video we made on the cliff top of that amazing camp spot: ua-cam.com/video/rsmbKDMBkLQ/v-deo.html
If you like you can download it and integrate in the video. Safe travels!
Love your vids, But seriously do yourself a favour, sell the 🚜 & spend the extra & buy yourself a late model 2019 onwards KTM 690 Enduro R.
The POWER & the PASSION
I personally wouldn't ride anything less.
Cheers 🍻 👍
@Steven Bennetts mate are you talking bad about my tractor 😝
I need many bikes I know. One for all occasions. Bloody kids and mortgages saps all my bike spending money.
Big mistake not wearing gloves.
Do you actually love doing adventure riding ? to much swearing on the video which otherwise is good content.
@anbu999, it’s the best.
I'm enjoying your vids. What other dirt bikes have you owned?
@Drop Bear, thanks champ.
Mate apart from some road bikes I have only had the f800gs.
Although I have ridden a Wr450f, crf450r, KTM 450 6 days and crf250l.
