  • Just over one week to go before my Victorian High Country 8-day ride. I wanted to have a full dress rehearsal with the Skydio and the new gear I'd mounted on my bike. I grabbed a few mates and we spent the day up at Newnes Plateau in the stunning Blue Mountains. Found some amazing trails and sights.

My wife and I don't have adventure bikes yet, but we ride dirt bikes, snowmobiles, ATVs and do a lot of kayaking. Man, Brent. Have been watching all your videos now. Just great. You certainly deserve a lot more subscribers. I am sure that will happen with time.
    The thing I enjoy most is the down to earth attitude (quite literally, when it comes to the bike 😉), both in your narrating style as well as in the way you seem to go about your rides. Having the bike down is just taken in stride and while other Tubers would make that THE big topic of their clip, you just pick up the bike and continue. That is how it should be, ´cause that is what happens when you do ADV riding. Many of us still get a big dent in their confidence (or perhaps just their egos?) when we find ourselves on the ground. (I know!) You "normalize" this so much that already I feel better about my past slips - as well as those that will come.
    Perhaps I am wrong, but to me this also seems to be part of the relaxed Aussie attitude I so much appreciated when travelling your country. - I love it!
    On a sidenote - probably the best lunch spot I have ever seen in a clip! Awesome!
    Safe riding, mate!

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  2 роки тому +1

      LOL.... You crack me up.... I think that is the first time somebody has said they like my channel because of how frequently I crash and that I don't make a big deal out of it.
      :-)
      I totally understand what you are saying. Yes, I do love pushing the envelope when I ride, and I don't mind if I am dropping the bike at low speed because I'm trying some tricky terrain or pushing the bike (and me) to our limits. That is part of the attraction of adv riding... the hurdles and how you get over them. I agree that some people over dramatise this... it's just part of our our sport. I make sure I have good protection on my bikes, and I don't set out to drop teh bike, but at the same time it doesn't bother me if I'm laying the bike down at low speeds because I rarely suffer any damage (either bike or me).
      Yeah, that lunch spot in the Blue Mountains is incredible, I'm going to head back there when we get out of lockdown and do a high resolution panorama so that I can print that image and hang it on my wall... it's a pretty special place.
      Take care

    Great footage...also, that drone has amazing collision-avoidance compared to most it seems. Here in the UK, I'm not convinced that with the flight restrictions here and in many European Countries, plus carrying a large box on tour, is worth the paperwork, cost and grief. However, your country offers so many massive filming opportunities and I enjoy your quality vids Brent 👍

      Yeah, I hear you. You can fit the skydio in a backpack (it comes with a much more portable case), but I don't mind the pelican case on my bike, it's fast access to the drone. As for paperwork etc.... Yuck... I definitely hear you there. We do have some incredible remote country which is. conjusive to drone videography here. I'm going to the Vic High Country which would have to be a Mecca for 4WD and offroad bikes... so I am excited to see what sort of footage I get there.

    Fear of getting lost, I feel that strongly by watching this video. Not that its awe inspiring, and the fact that we have GPS these days. But so deep, so isolated form any form of help, is that not confronting?

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 роки тому

      Hey Salesberg, No, I don't find the remoteness confronting, to me it is all part of the adventure. Yes, sometimes the trails we ride may be hundreds of km from civilisation, or fuel etc. But we are well prepared, we have GPS navigation (usually 2 separate devices with cached maps), we have first aid, we take food and water, and finally we ride with satellite communication and SOS capabilities. So if something really goes wrong, we can hit an emergency SOS and know that help will come, but we can also send and receive text messages from anywhere in teh world, and that is hugely reassuring.

      @brentbat  2 роки тому

      @@racingkid89 Hey Ken, if you are new to adventure riding, then I definitely would NOT recommend Firetrail # 6. But Gloworm Tunnel Road is definitely one I would recommend. Nice easy dirt road, great tunnel, beautiful scenery. If you haven't joined Sydney Adventure Riders Group on Facebook I would do that, there are plenty of people organising rides you can join in. Be very careful about riding solo. My mate is an experienced adventure rider, but 2 weeks ago he was riding with a group, his 1250GS hit a rut and he came off (which is no big deal), but he rolled down an 8-foot embankment and the GS rolled down and landed on top of him. He was pinned down under it for 45 min and he couldn't even move his arms to trigger his EPIRB. Luckily he had comms range to one of the other riders and he managed to direct him back. So be very very cautious about riding solo until you are well set up and know what you are doing. Just my 2c worth :-)
