30 foot pounds on the pinion preload? Sure about that? As for the half shaft seals in the stub axles, far better to remove them or rip their lips off so that diff oil can lubricate the drive flange splines and wheel bearings - those seals are why 300Tdi and later drive flanges and shaft splines rust and wear so quickly.
It would have been nice to see the mesh pattern in the paste you applied.
Hey Dean, cool to see you guys doing these videos. A trick I learned from a friend, put the carrier in a press to hold it while you undo and retorque the carrier and ring gear bolts.
Very clearly explained and illustrated video clearly showing the stages from removal, inspection to re-fitting & setting up. I know how to do this but this method seems simpler & more straightforward somehow whilst still doing the job properly & getting minimum backlash bang on the button, well done & thanks.

An alternative method to set the carrier preload/shims is to make larger diameter shims and fit them behind the bearing shell in the casing, much easier than behind the bearing race itself.

Very helpful video - great effort - do you have a video on installation of a diff locker on a Salisbury diff?
Not yet! That's something we could do in the future if/when we do that job on a vehicle
Where can I get the tool to spread the diff? And what are the measurements?
How do you make sure it’s only spread by .3mm?
