I don’t feel like it’s just a coincidence this was posted November first. To all my brothers and sisters trying to say no to lust this month (and hopefully forever after the month ends), we got this. Praying over all of you. And please pray for me too. Something that’s helped me too is praying a few Hail Mary’s when tempted. It’s hard to talk to your Holy Mother then commit an act of lust after.

Eventually the priest I went to confession to one day said to me, “ he said out of blue, “you are going to be all right” it was when I realized he was right, that wise priest, despite confessing over and over the same sin. The the times between those confession got longer as the sins decreased. There came a time where I learned that I was stronger. Praying always, and it did stop. I was free of it. Praise the Lord!

This must be God’s providence! This video popped up right when I got back from confession. I myself committing the same sins every time. I always bring myself back to confession. Often the priests in the confessional say to me “just keep trying your best,” and I do, but it’s not exactly the wisdom that provides me with help. One time a priest asked me about, “the script.” I told him how the same thing occurs every time. He said to me, “Put a crucifix next to the place where you commit that sin the most.” Interesting advice! I follow it, but I still fall short. Now this video comes to me! “Re-write the script.” Recognize the script and offer it to the Lord! It reminds me of the quote from St. Leo the great quoted in CCC 1691. Go read it. (It’s too long to copy here.) It also reminds of St. Paul saying that we aren’t slaves to sin anymore! All of this coming together is great. THANK YOU Father!

This is such great advice! I am a new Catholic. During my first confession, I confessed the sin of wrath. The Priest said that he (being Irish, LOL!) also struggled with being easily angered. He learned to overcome it when he stopped having expectations of other people. He only needed to adjust his thinking a little and then Jesus just took the sin of wrath right out of him. He rewrote the script! I've tried to do the same thing, and it really helps! I don't expect people to agree with me all the time, or do things my way. It's a lot harder to make me angry now. I so appreciate my Priest's counsel.

We all fail, we will fall short at one point or another. Ive developed this mentality of "Fail forward" we fail but God and Our Lady will help us up every time, so every time I walk out of confession in a state of grace, I try just a little bit more and a little bit more. This is fairly recent and results will never be instantaneous. This is just how I started going about things. Also frequent confession has been helping! Even a singular mortal sin, and confession is on my mind, the first opportunity, I pounce!

So you say every day, try and go two days, then 3, so on and so forth, youll get there! Fr. Chad Ripperger said we need to pay attention to our frequent sins, its a sign from God that those are the virtues He wants us to master or cultivate, so to speak. Lust- God wants you to cultivate chastity, Anger- Patience, Pride- Humility. There may be 7 deadly sins, but there are 7 virtues to combat them!

Oof, I understand that sentiment. It sounds like you have some good awareness though. This just came to me, based one comment that this isn't a game (which I agree with). We could gamify it in a different way. In lots of games we hold on to all sorts of items or tokens to help us continue in the game. You lost a token and that's frustrating. Great news though, you still have a whole bunch more of tokens to hang on to. Dropping one token doesn't mean you drop the whole bag of tokens. That's how you can get your money's worth. By hanging on to that bag of tokens. Anyway, that may not be your cup of tea, although I may use something like that for myself. However we look at it, we've got this, we CAN do this. God is with us.

I know this is a little long but I ask you please take a second to read this!
I understand and relate to that completely… but we must realize to sin over and over knowing we are going to confession anyway is a serious sin of presumption.
I don’t say this to make you feel bad (I fall into that sin also) but to show you just how serious sin is! Jesus wants to be your best freind! Think of it like this, if you went and did something against a friend or a parent, say talked about them behind their back. If they figured out you would want to immediately apologize and ask for forgiveness, not go and continue to talk bad about them, that would make you a bad friend. This is the same for our relationship with Jesus, the only difference is that unlike a parent or friend, Jesus knows EVERY time you turn against him and choose sin over him to “get your moneys worth”
but don’t fret because guess what…
Jesus wants a deeper relationship with you more than anything! And no matter how many times you fail, or how many times you turn away, he will ALWAYS be waiting with wide open arms And unlike a friend or parent here on earth, once you repent no fail or sin of the past will change your relationship with him! It will be as if you never turned away! 8. “He remembers our sins no more” (Isa. 43:25) I know because here on earth when we fail someone it will forever effect our relationship even if it’s just a small way, but how crazy is it that no matter how much we fail… as long as we repent (are sorry and try our best to turn away from sin) Jesus will love us as if it never happened!! Oh what a friend we have in Jesus!
      God bless 🕊️

It's no coincidence that this video is the first listed as a suggestion this morning. I have a habitual sin that I was staying away from for a few months. Yay! I was even feeling stronger about staying away because I had started thinking about my guardian angel more. It kind of seems like I had rewritten the script a bit, probably my angel helping me out there. And then something popped up in life that I wasn't expecting, and could be linked to my sin. I had already been telling myself "no" for some days right before that happened (I was really proud of myself too, it felt good to not engage in the sin). Looking back I can see I probably did feel helpless. I just fell into the cycle for a few days and I was getting on myself for not distancing from the problem. Last night I stopped engaging and I felt like I had a better hold, and more confidence I could distance myself again. And here we are. I treasure these moments. God knows and loves us so well.

My journey had to go deep. Not only did I have to really appreciate St. Therese of Lisieux - and learn to be honest about being little - but also I had to do some trauma work with a psychologist who appreciated Catholicism. Childhood trauma is a real thing, and it doesn't have to be huge and dramatic to leave a wound that leads you to repeat things that are not healthy. That's the "grooves" to which you refer : the brain is wiring at a fast pace in childhood and wants to be efficient later, so it would rather waltz down the old pathway than make new ones. I do believe that Grace perfects nature so a combination of therapy (to reprogram the grooves, the neural connections) and Sacraments is not problematic. It seems to be working for me, in any case.

Ya....working on a sin I did openly and routinely without ever thinking of sin or any of this for over 20 years. My entire world view and expectations were built around it for all of my developing years and then the entirety of my life from that point on as a purely indulged and openly enjoyed matter of habit.
Thats a lot of momentum to turn around....God's going to have to be patient on this one....

Thank the Lord because this is exactly what I needed to hear today. I've been trying to escape some habitual sins and start better habits for so long and I couldn't figure out how to do it. Thank you Fr. Mike and all those who make things like this possible!

One of the reasons why I avoid high school reunions is because its a venue for gossip. I love what you said at the end. That's from 2 Timothy 1: 6-7. Stir into flame the gift of God that you have from the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power, love, and self- control.

DAILY dolorosary, rosary, fasting, meditation and frequenting the sacraments are indispensable. Most of all... remember that God TRULY loves YOU, and the desire to master this in order to be with Him is a grace that comes from Him... so do not despair. Do not be disturbed. Do not give up, not for an hour; rest in the certainty of God's love.

My first year of teaching, a veteran teacher told me to avoid spending too much time in the teachers' lounge. He said that's not a good place.

My mom is a retired teacher and she also indicated she didn't spend much time in the teacher's lounge. Mainly to use the microwave or something like that. When I was a kid there were special days that I could go to school with her, for whatever reason I didn't have to be in school. I remember one specific visit that we did eat in the teacher's lounge. Oof, I sensed something wasn't right. I have no idea what was said at this point, but whatever was said made me uncomfortable. I think inherently I knew what they were doing was wrong. That may have been the time my mom shared she pretty much stayed away.

Thank you for this video. If there is one thing I do agree with in the first minute, it’s that we fail and we fail again to live up to the standards that we determine will lead us to a good life. That standard that we measure ourselves up to though does not have to theologically grounded. That is where I differ here in the first minute. Morality does not need a god to produce its truth or binding obligation.

Habitual Sin sometime you can also apply a Habitual Prayer to that time when it occurs - One of my favorites was "Arise O God - Let Thine Enemies be scattered, Let those who hate Thee flee from before Thy face" This was a most helpful prayer and I overcame a terrible temptation. Gossip is a horrible habit - Many people are gossips and don't even know that is what they are doing because they think of a gossip as intentionally trying to cause harm to one of the subjects but not so, you can gossip about true things - but they are things that don't need to be discussed in present company and mulled over by you and same. So gossip is a constant in this country I think. TO get away from them doing it I used to say " Uh, I don't think we should talk about it" or "I think we should ask such n such and not assume what they were thinking" and yes those kind of responses were terribly hard but people finally got the realization I did not want to hear it. Just do something - try something - God will help you if you put your mind to it.

Most people confess repetitive sins in the majority of confessions. Instances of committing grave sins are generally not common experiences for people. Therefore, it is important to examine the roots of habitual sins. The Catholic Church classifies the roots of sin into these categories: pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth. Examining the roots of one's own sins is crucial for self-understanding, as it is by identifying these roots that one can truly encounter oneself - including one's weaknesses, wounds, and more.

Thank you for this video, when I first saw the thumbnail and title, I instantly called to mind one of your old sunday homilies on spotify on temptation, my favourite one actually, I really loved that lent series, prototype and I try my best to remember the 4 steps, Expect the Trial, Eliminate the Option, Rewrite the Script and Quote Scripture. This video does dive a little deeper into what it means to rewrite the script and I'm really happy and thankful that you are able to reiterate this message. :D

I have learned the reason we don't get past a certain sin is that we have a block to getting past it - an attachment to it in some fashion. We can even be attached to weakness itself. Pray the Unity Prayer; Jesus to a Saint (If not a saint yet her work was church approved) : “This prayer is an instrument in your hands. By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.”
O My Jesus may our feet journey together
May our hands gather in unity
May our hearts beat in unison
May our Souls be in Harmony
May our thoughts be as one
May our ears listen to the silence together
May our glances profoundly penetrate one another
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen

This spoke to me so much today i can really feel the love and grace from father mike which is something i need. it seems like im always struggling with something and i have an all or nothing mentality so i get discouraged when i fail and feel ashamed eventually falling back into the same old patterns and i feel like so many other pastors/priests out there only point out what you did wrong like heres the reason why youre in the situation youre in and leave out the part where they give you the tools to grow and get better. long story short i typically feel condemned not only by myself but by other people affirming that and today father mike gave me a new perspective so thank you!
