I don’t feel like it’s just a coincidence this was posted November first. To all my brothers and sisters trying to say no to lust this month (and hopefully forever after the month ends), we got this. Praying over all of you. And please pray for me too. Something that’s helped me too is praying a few Hail Mary’s when tempted. It’s hard to talk to your Holy Mother then commit an act of lust after.
Why dont you simply pray to Jesus? Its much faster! To my brother in Christ (but NOT Mary veneration) thank you for you comment and it would be my privilege to prayer for you!

Eventually the priest I went to confession to one day said to me, “ he said out of blue, “you are going to be all right” it was when I realized he was right, that wise priest, despite confessing over and over the same sin. The the times between those confession got longer as the sins decreased. There came a time where I learned that I was stronger. Praying always, and it did stop. I was free of it. Praise the Lord!

Often the priests in the confessional say to me “just keep trying your best,” and I do, but it’s not exactly the wisdom that provides me with help. One time a priest asked me about, “the script.” I told him how the same thing occurs every time. He said to me, “Put a crucifix next to the place where you commit that sin the most.” Interesting advice! I follow it, but I still fall short. Now this video comes to me! “Re-write the script.” Recognize the script and offer it to the Lord! It reminds me of the quote from St. Leo the great quoted in CCC 1691. Go read it. (It’s too long to copy here.) It also reminds of St. Paul saying that we aren’t slaves to sin anymore! All of this coming together is great. THANK YOU Father!

This is such great advice! I am a new Catholic. During my first confession, I confessed the sin of wrath. The Priest said that he (being Irish, LOL!) also struggled with being easily angered. He learned to overcome it when he stopped having expectations of other people. He only needed to adjust his thinking a little and then Jesus just took the sin of wrath right out of him. He rewrote the script! I've tried to do the same thing, and it really helps! I don't expect people to agree with me all the time, or do things my way. It's a lot harder to make me angry now. I so appreciate my Priest's counsel.

YES. Confession is groundhog day every couple weeks. I leave confession ready to do great. I then have one venial sin, get so down on myself, then I'm like well, might as well get my money's worth and away I go
Oof, I understand that sentiment. It sounds like you have some good awareness though. This just came to me, based one comment that this isn't a game (which I agree with). Thank you so much Fr. Mike. I have finally accepted that I need to go into the RCIA program an cling to Our Lord Jesus Christ. An complete that program
It's no coincidence that this video is the first listed as a suggestion this morning. I have a habitual sin that I was staying away from for a few months. Yay! I was even feeling stronger about staying away because I had started thinking about my guardian angel more. It kind of seems like I had rewritten the script a bit, probably my angel helping me out there. And then something popped up in life that I wasn't expecting, and could be linked to my sin. I had already been telling myself "no" for some days right before that happened (I was really proud of myself too, it felt good to not engage in the sin). Looking back I can see I probably did feel helpless. I just fell into the cycle for a few days and I was getting on myself for not distancing from the problem. Last night I stopped engaging and I felt like I had a better hold, and more confidence I could distance myself again. And here we are. I treasure these moments. God knows and loves us so well.
I was in this situation. The same sin, over and over, however confession over and over. The lord came to rescue me. He just strengthened me over time and I was able, with gods help, to put this away.
I literally just came back from confession. Where i have confessed a nasty habitual sin and my priest gave me penance of asking God to remove this habit. This video is absolutely an answered prayer!
My journey had to go deep. Not only did I have to really appreciate St. Therese of Lisieux - and learn to be honest about being little - but also I had to do some trauma work with a psychologist who appreciated Catholicism. Childhood trauma is a real thing, and it doesn't have to be huge and dramatic to leave a wound that leads you to repeat things that are not healthy. That's the "grooves" to which you refer : the brain is wiring at a fast pace in childhood and wants to be efficient later, so it would rather waltz down the old pathway than make new ones. I do believe that Grace perfects nature so a combination of therapy (to reprogram the grooves, the neural connections) and Sacraments is not problematic. It seems to be working for me, in any case.
Its a wonderful experience to receive excellent practical amd spiritual advice from a holy priest. But it becomes positively transcendental when he has hair as magnificent as Fr. Mike.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one that struggles with this. Best advice yet I’ve heard regarding this. Another one I’ve heard is to be patient with yourself and keep putting in the effort. It does take time to rewire our brains.
Gossip is such a bad one for me. It is my number one sin by far. It feels so impossible to escape - like there’s nobody I can talk to without falling into it! This is excellent advice, thank you father.
This is just what I needed. My very recent confession Father told me to pray and ask God to bring healing in places I may not even know needed to be healed to help see why certain sins, in the work place, happen. Gossip. Anger. Something many struggle with at times. Father Mike's plan is a beautiful extension of what God is asking me to do, too. Praise God for His love and mercy and for the faithful priests He uses to guide us and lead us closer to Him. Lord, help us be the saints you have called us to be.🙏🏽
Thank you for the practical advice. I find that it is easy to find theological reasons to avoid sin, but hardly any practical help for a sinner who wants to be free without being super condescending. Thank you. God bless 🙏🏽
Thank you father for your preaching today because I’m always in the group I’m always try not to send as old as I am at 75Day by day life is very hard to deal with as you get older seems like you lose your patience but God bless you I pray for you pray for me my family pray for your family God be with you peace father peace😂
Thank you Father Mike for this! I will implement this, as I want to be a better version of myself each day, to make our God proud of who I am trying to become! And thank you Lord for your love, patience and mercy you have for all of us! Prayers for everyone!
Thank you so much for this. My anger is always directed at myself and I have such a hard time loving myself after past abuse that I suffered for so long. I pray for Father Mike every day because I listen to the Catechism & The Bible in a year every single day. It’s been a great help to me and to my husband
Well done Fr. Mike! 100% agree. The same works with falling in love with praying the rosary every day. Start with one Hail Mary, then it will come the second, the third one and before you know you finished the entire rosary. And once you turn around you have prayed 3 rosaries in a day. Wanna play music in a car? 10 sec is enough to turn the rosary recording instead of random music. Everything starts with one Hail Mary and Mary's love leads further:)
I glad that I'm not the only one who has this issue. This video, father mike makes sheds light how to deal with this problem .. thank you mike as well as everyone else who commented and sharing your struggles. God bless us all ... till then!!!
Thank you Father, Last couple months of life have taken drastic changes and now adapting. But i still have my personal issues. This is what i needed to hear to help guide me again. Thank you. Many blessings and thank you.
I was just feeling shame for some sin that has been in my life for almost as long as I can remember, when this popped up. Thank you, Father Mike. I have started writing a plan to work through this based on your suggestions. Also, just to let you know, many of us Prots enjoy and grow from a lot of the content you post. I appreciate all that you do.
this video couldn't be anymore spot on in what's going on in my life I pray that with the strength God gives us my partner & I can overcome these sins 🙏🏼

I needed this. Thank you Holy Spirit 🙏 Pray I can make a good confession. I don't want to go and keep sinning and sinning. I need to stop being cold and lukewarm. I am too weak 😭
I do have the same sins. So embarrasing going to my parish priest with the same venial baggage. FYI... I was a teacher. Less sins now that I'm retired. 😊
Ya....working on a sin I did openly and routinely without ever thinking of sin or any of this for over 20 years. My entire world view and expectations were built around it for all of my developing years and then the entirety of my life from that point on as a purely indulged and openly enjoyed matter of habit. Thats a lot of momentum to turn around....God's going to have to be patient on this one....
Thank the Lord because this is exactly what I needed to hear today. I've been trying to escape some habitual sins and start better habits for so long and I couldn't figure out how to do it. Thank you Fr. Mike and all those who make things like this possible!
One of the reasons why I avoid high school reunions is because its a venue for gossip. I love what you said at the end. That's from 2 Timothy 1: 6-7. Stir into flame the gift of God that you have from the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power, love, and self- control.
Father thank u so much for teaching us how to stop from sinning and hurting our lord jesus christ 😊 actually today i was asking god to help me and my sis from gossiping and juz after few hrs i saw ur video thanks
DAILY dolorosary, rosary, fasting, meditation and frequenting the sacraments are indispensable. Most of all... remember that God TRULY loves YOU, and the desire to master this in order to be with Him is a grace that comes from Him... so do not despair. Do not be disturbed. Do not give up, not for an hour; rest in the certainty of God's love.
"You're trimming roses in a fancy garden, while wild weeds out in the wilderness are just waiting for some rain." You're absolutely right, but I'm just really sad.
My mom is a retired teacher and she also indicated she didn't spend much time in the teacher's lounge. Mainly to use the microwave or something like that. When I was a kid there were special days that I could go to school with her, for whatever reason I didn't have to be in school. I remember one specific visit that we did eat in the teacher's lounge. Oof, I sensed something wasn't right. I have no idea what was said at this point, but whatever was said made me uncomfortable. I think inherently I knew what they were doing was wrong. That may have been the time my mom shared she pretty much stayed away.
These are the excatly honts that I needed. UA-cam algorithm is not that band, and certainly God's grace 😆. Thanks you so much. Viva Cristo Rei, e Salve Maria
So many people need to hear this wisdom. How often are we told to avoid sin without instruction for how to do so? Thank you Father Mike for your honest advice.
Thank you for this video. If there is one thing I do agree with in the first minute, it’s that we fail and we fail again to live up to the standards that we determine will lead us to a good life. That standard that we measure ourselves up to though does not have to theologically grounded. That is where I differ here in the first minute. Morality does not need a god to produce its truth or binding obligation.
Habitual Sin sometime you can also apply a Habitual Prayer to that time when it occurs - One of my favorites was "Arise O God - Let Thine Enemies be scattered, Let those who hate Thee flee from before Thy face" This was a most helpful prayer and I overcame a terrible temptation. Gossip is a horrible habit - Many people are gossips and don't even know that is what they are doing because they think of a gossip as intentionally trying to cause harm to one of the subjects but not so, you can gossip about true things - but they are things that don't need to be discussed in present company and mulled over by you and same. So gossip is a constant in this country I think. TO get away from them doing it I used to say " Uh, I don't think we should talk about it" or "I think we should ask such n such and not assume what they were thinking" and yes those kind of responses were terribly hard but people finally got the realization I did not want to hear it. Just do something - try something - God will help you if you put your mind to it.
Most people confess repetitive sins in the majority of confessions. Instances of committing grave sins are generally not common experiences for people. Therefore, it is important to examine the roots of habitual sins. The Catholic Church classifies the roots of sin into these categories: pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth. Examining the roots of one's own sins is crucial for self-understanding, as it is by identifying these roots that one can truly encounter oneself - including one's weaknesses, wounds, and more.
YOOOOOO!!! Father Mike! Thank you for this video, when I first saw the thumbnail and title, I instantly called to mind one of your old sunday homilies on spotify on temptation, my favourite one actually, I really loved that lent series, prototype and I try my best to remember the 4 steps, Expect the Trial, Eliminate the Option, Rewrite the Script and Quote Scripture. This video does dive a little deeper into what it means to rewrite the script and I'm really happy and thankful that you are able to reiterate this message. :D
I have learned the reason we don't get past a certain sin is that we have a block to getting past it - an attachment to it in some fashion. We can even be attached to weakness itself. Pray the Unity Prayer; Jesus to a Saint (If not a saint yet her work was church approved) : “This prayer is an instrument in your hands. By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.” O My Jesus may our feet journey together May our hands gather in unity May our hearts beat in unison May our Souls be in Harmony May our thoughts be as one May our ears listen to the silence together May our glances profoundly penetrate one another May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen
You make it sound sound so easy, you know the script! I will not be able to forget that! WOW Rewriting areas of temptation and no excuses. Prayerfully heads-up O LORD!
This spoke to me so much today i can really feel the love and grace from father mike which is something i need. it seems like im always struggling with something and i have an all or nothing mentality so i get discouraged when i fail and feel ashamed eventually falling back into the same old patterns and i feel like so many other pastors/priests out there only point out what you did wrong like heres the reason why youre in the situation youre in and leave out the part where they give you the tools to grow and get better. long story short i typically feel condemned not only by myself but by other people affirming that and today father mike gave me a new perspective so thank you!

A righteous man falls seven times, and rises again.
I literally just came back from confession. Where i have confessed a nasty habitual sin and my priest gave me penance of asking God to remove this habit. This video is absolutely an answered prayer!
Speaking to my life right now. God bless. Pray for me. I pray for you.
Childhood trauma is indeed a real thing. God bless you in your therapy
It wasn't your fault. Never ever forget that but claim it.
Exactly, Sacraments are to heal the soul, therapy to heal the mind, and they are deeply connected to our general wellbeing.
This is how I deal with anger.
If I am getting annoyed with someone, I try an get the heck away from them.
I’ve also heard that seeing Jesus in everyone is a big deterrent.
@@amellowmanThat's too kind for me.
Pro active avoidance. Good advice Father Mike.
It’s rare to find a soul who selflessly helps so many young, so often, on such deeply meaningful topics. Thanks for all you do Father Mike.
This man is such a legend!! Thanks father Mike!
Thanks Fr Mike, just what I needed to hear tonight ❣️God Less you🙏
This is the best solution to recurring temptations. Thank you Fr Mike, may He continue to use you to the fullest.
Thank you so much for this. My anger is always directed at myself and I have such a hard time loving myself after past abuse that I suffered for so long. I pray for Father Mike every day because I listen to the Catechism & The Bible in a year every single day. It’s been a great help to me and to my husband
You are not to blame for abuse. It's not your fault. It is *not your fault.* Just gotta keep remembering that.
Only by Gods grace can we actually change ❤
Father Mike, you, indeed, are a blessing. Love your talks. 😊
Oh my gosh Father. So helpful. I particularly like specific concrete suggestions. I’m going to try that 30 second thing.❤😊
Father Mike thank you!!!!! You have touched so many people's lives, including mine!!!!❤❤❤
Matthew 23:9 - And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
I glad that I'm not the only one who has this issue.
This video, father mike makes sheds light how to deal with this problem .. thank you mike as well as everyone else who commented and sharing your struggles. God bless us all ... till then!!!
God bless you Fr. Mike.
Yeah I just came from confession today also and this video just popped up.
Same
Thank you Father, Last couple months of life have taken drastic changes and now adapting. But i still have my personal issues. This is what i needed to hear to help guide me again. Thank you. Many blessings and thank you.
Thank you, 3:56 Father Mike, for your wonderful and encouraging words.❤ 😊
I was just feeling shame for some sin that has been in my life for almost as long as I can remember, when this popped up. Thank you, Father Mike. I have started writing a plan to work through this based on your suggestions. Also, just to let you know, many of us Prots enjoy and grow from a lot of the content you post. I appreciate all that you do.
Thank you, Father!
Wow i love this advice, thank you for making it available for all of us to be blessed by your teachings 🙏
God bless you, father Mike
Reprogram ! It works. God bless.Claire.
this video couldn't be anymore spot on in what's going on in my life I pray that with the strength God gives us my partner & I can overcome these sins 🙏🏼
Atomic Habits and Tiny Habits are great books for breaking and setting habits. B=MAP. Behavior = Motivation*Ability*Prompt. Change one of these to alter your behavior.
Super helpful needed this
I needed this.
Thank you Father I just needed this ❤❤
Thank you so much for these videos!! I’m thankful for this channel and I make sure to share with my family and friends
Before the end of this year I'm going to confession. Please pray for me to have courage to do so. God bless you all
Thankyou..listening from the other side of the world 🌎....
"You're trimming roses in a fancy garden, while wild weeds out in the wilderness are just waiting for some rain."
You're absolutely right, but I'm just really sad.
Thank you for your wisdom Father Mike 🙏❤✝️
Thank you for this father mike, this is so good
My first year of teaching, a veteran teacher told me to avoid spending too much time in the teachers' lounge. He said that's not a good place.
Sometimes I get EXACTLY what I need to hear when I turn UA-cam on. Thanks Father!
These are the excatly honts that I needed. UA-cam algorithm is not that band, and certainly God's grace 😆. Thanks you so much. Viva Cristo Rei, e Salve Maria
Over and over again... Im tired of apologizing i can only imagine how exhausted God is hearing the same thing over and over again
The same script never thought about it like that before. Time to rewrite my script ✍
You tackle these subjects with the intellectual thoughtfulness of a therapist and I appreciate it.
Jesus really speaks to guys like us through you dude..May His Blessings rain down on you Fr. Mike! 🙏
So many people need to hear this wisdom. How often are we told to avoid sin without instruction for how to do so?
Thank you Father Mike for your honest advice.
Thank you God. Your discipline came at a perfect time for me! Thank you for using Fr. Mike as your instrument. Love you Lord Jesus!❤
Good evening Father! Bless you for All Souls’ Day !!!
I have tried for years so tired of being tired about my bad habits will keep trying lord son of the father have mercy on me a sinner.
Viva Cristo Rey
I feel very identified by what you say. I am going to follow what you say. Please pray for me.
It can’t be a coincidence how I’m planning on going to confession tomorrow and this was recommended to me!
Father mike, i saw your homily on all saints day!!!!!! May god strengthen and comfort you and your family in your time of grief. 🕊🕊🕊
I really needed this reminder that I am not powerless against the sin. Thank you
This is SO. GOOD.
"Work." There you guys go again. Semper Reformanda!
You're a gift from God Father, Thank you ❤ this is so powerful!
Wow! real practical information that can be used and practiced ! we need more of this type of teaching! Thank you, Father you’re awesome!
This is why I dread going to confession. I’m embarrassed and humiliated the second I’ve fallen again.
There is nothing to dread!
By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.”
O My Jesus may our feet journey together
May our hands gather in unity
May our hearts beat in unison
May our Souls be in Harmony
May our thoughts be as one
May our ears listen to the silence together
May our glances profoundly penetrate one another
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen
Amen 🙏🙏🙏 Thank you Fr Mike I needed to hear this today thank you ❤
You make it sound sound so easy, you know the script!
