“Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” I read that somewhere. Thinking of God and others more than yourself. That made sense to me.
Like one of my very best friends, St Thérèse of Lisiuex , The Little Flower; one of the doctors of the church!!! Her autobiography, Story of a Soul, he teaches us to do little things with great love. It’s called Her Little Way
Our Lord has blessed me with humbleness…… I’ve farmed for 40 years and admired the incredible beauty of what Gods blessings and bounty bring to each of us. That said I’ve farmed for 40 years and it’s a daily lesson in being humbled believe me… We are nothing without our Lord and Savior
Me too I grew up saying " sorry I can't afford it ," still at age 64 saying .we have to pick names for Christmas 🎄 I still can't even afford little things for all my kids their kids wives etc.
Being reminded every day that nothing happens just because you want it to happen or how you work, your skills, etc. to make it happen, but that you have to rely on God for everything - from the weather, seeds opening at the right time, for crops and herds not to be destroyed by disease or just plain stolen, does have a way of making a person humble because you realize there is only so much you can do to make things work. For all the rest, and it is the majority of what it takes, it is up to God's provision. When you experience that awe, you become humble. Saying it out loud and admitting you experience this humbling in your daily life is a sign of humbleness and acceptance of God's sovereignty and a willingness to share what God has been doing in your life.
I have an extreme level of pride and I was very angry at my family and relatives from the past. I am SORRY GOD!!! I am not better than anyone, and I forgive everyone from my past as they may have made mistakes just as I have made thousands if not millions. I love you God. I am a lowly person not better than anyone. Please forgive my Father God.
Here is a little prayer that I like to say. Your job is not to judge. Your job is not to figure out if someone deserves something. Your job is to lift the fallen, to restore the broken, and to heal the hurting.
"Great question camper" I love how simple he breaks things down and he's so inviting to listen to and doesn't make it feel like a lecture but like a friend giving advice. God bless Father Mike!
I wish I had money to give currently but hubby just got laid off. Just made the step finally to talking to someone about starting RCIA classes and it all started after listening to Fr Mike's Bible in a year podcast. Never thought in a million years I'd be on this path but here I am.
We can donate our time and talent and not just our treasures so don’t worry. Praying your husband can find a job and things work out for you and your family
Thank you all for the prayers. The hubs always gets laid off this time of year due to the nature of his job and so money is always tighter when that happens. It would be cool if he was on this new journey with me but he wasn't part of my original Christian journey to begin with. I'm meeting with a priest of the church I contacted yesterday Friday Dec. 2. I'm so nervous but I'm also excited because I'm one step closer to experiencing the Eucharist.
Fr. Mike your videos have given me so much joy these last 5 years. You seem to pop up just when I need to hear your words! I was born and raised a Catholic and attended 12 years of Catholic school. I haven't been to church in several years mainly because of my health. I have been in and out of the hospital many times because my yet to be diagnosed condition. They can't seem to find the cause of my muscle issue. Today I was at the Cleveland Clinic for a muscle biopsy. Two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I consider myself extremely lucky because I did not have to have chemo or radiation. It was all contained. Because of you and AP I have started praying the rosary every night before I go to bed, something I have not done since I was very young. I have you to thank for the change that has been happening in my life. Someday I will feel good enough to start attending Sunday mass. I wish I could donate more to help with the cost of making the videos, disability pay isn't the greatest but I will continue to donate when I have the extra funds. Thank you for all that you do and have done to make my life brighter. God bless you! Carolyn
God Bless you and heal you! I hope you are watching livestream Masses. My parish has a wonderful Sunday Mass on UA-cam. Christ the King Catholic Church Ann Arbor MI is the title to find the UA-cam channel.
God bless you Caroline . I am great full too .my nicest husband really needs a kidney. I have 2 good ones. I don't have the $$ for surgery ( volunteer) to give him 1. The donor bank wants 5 for 1. ??
@@cindyrobertson3798 My best friend donated one of her kidneys to her husband and everything was covered by insurance. I've never heard of a donor having to pay out of pocket. Insurance covers the donors medical bills. Maybe you don't live in the USA.
Man, thank you for this! I’m stuck in such a miserable headspace and the world and everything appears bleak. I have a lot to be grateful for- if a fraction was taken away, I’d regret ignoring the many blessings I have. I’m really going to give this some serious thought. Probably should write to remind myself when my pride begins to creep back in. Thank you again!
O Lord God, please help me to be holy, humble and patient. Thank you Father Mike Schmitz. I am so, so thankful to Almighty God for my family and all the blessings He has given to me and my family. I personally do not celebrate Thanksgiving. I am originally from Honduras where we do not celebrate thanksgiving. So, I will be working twelve hours day shift at the hospital where I work. Say a prayer for my team. The Unit where I work is Behavioural Health Medicine and Surgical Medicine. Praise The LORD o my soul, praise The LORD o my soul.
Jesus died on the cross so we can be forgiven for our sins so that we can repent and enjoy a relationship with God now and later, Jesus is coming back.🙏🙏🙏
I don't know if you actually look at these comments, Fr. Mike. In case you do - I just wanted to say how much I appreciate what you do. I just discovered and started the Bible in a Year series. I am only on day 14 and I have already learned so much! I wish our faith had been taught like this in school. I may have led a very different life. Your honest delivery of reflections and how they relate to all of us is both refreshing and comforting. I get the impression you can clearly relate to the challenges that I, myself face. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VOCATION. Know that you are making a difference in the lives of many of us. Stay strong and I pray that God will flood you with grace and strength!
“Pride leads me to reject the fact that I am subject to God.” I love how this discusses that someone that feels less of their selves can still be prideful because they are preoccupied with the thoughts of themselves. Even in that situation, we can be prideful because we forget that we are subject to God who promises to help us in all situations so long as we are obedient. We should continue to give thanks for He is on The Throne. Thank you, father, for reminding us that pride is not just an offshoot of self-absorbed narcissism as we know it, but it can also be evident when we are totally preoccupied with the “bad” things about ourselves, or the bad things going on around us in our own lives.
You hit it right on the nail. Simply put, pride is preoccupied thoughts about yourself. That’s how my pride manifests itself in my life. I get embarrassed about things I should not and overthink things when it comes to relationships
I once knew for quite a while that I had a toxic pride building up in me as I experienced high levels of professional success & income that reflected it. I knew then to pray for humility, and I got it. Lost my job, and then took a lesser one where I shared an office with a Catholic and started my road to confirmation. I found freedom on my knees, and true love of self through God’s love for me. Humility is the greatest blessing one person can receive in my opinion. Just my two cents.
Another way to be humble is to love Our Lady as much as you can, since she is the perfect model of humilty. Ask her for the grace to love her, especially with an agape love. The lover desires to be like and imitate the one whom he loves. In other words love her, and you will be like her.

Then you feel grateful and unblinded from arrogance. Then humility is upon you. You can take it a step further, and realize how other peoples strengths can benefit your weaknesses. ❤ God bless
Thank you so much Father Mike. I called my parents yesterday to thank them for some of the gifts they have given me and taught to me. My humility kicked it in like a charm after I realized how grateful I was to them. Thank you
Thank you, Father Schmitz, for being such a gift for everyone who is watching this video. Thank you, Lord, for every single person around here and for every single day we live.

Love it. My favorite prayer is the litany of humility. Pride is my biggest vice, and this coupled with asking Fod to tear me down and cut out of me anything that breaks His heart has helped a lot but I still struggle immensely

Correct. It's just as prideful and egotistical to think I am a failure as to think I'm the best. Gratitude for me is an action of the will. I must say it, and act upon it.
Always happy to help this ministry of the Church any way I can. Ascension Presents is a blessing to everyone who sees the videos you put online each week.
Thank You Fr Mike snd AP! What a great way to start off in the new year in Advent w a greater awareness of defeating pride w Gratitude. “Be Grateful All the Time!” Is a sign on my Apt door so I enjoy reading it every time I go and come…Now w an even deeper awareness. Yes, I agree w the previous person who said You, Fr Mike, just happen to pop up when Need to hear what u are speaking about . FYI about 3-4 yrs ago I heard Fr Joseph MEAGHER’s homily on unforgiveness and he stated “ you forget how much Mercy God has shown you .” He then explained more about The Mercy shown to you has no where to go. It stops flowing due to your resistance in accepting it Mercy! You get the idea,eh!! Thank You again and God bless you & AP!
Thanks for this. Excellent advice. I will start making a practice out of recognizing God's blessings and grace on a daily basis and cultivate sincere gratitude. Amen! ❤
This is great. Ive been too focused on myself that i forgot to be nice sometimes. But i hate it when people take advantage of my kindness, for example. So sometimess i try not to be _too_ nice.
THANK YOU SOMUCH DEAR FR I LOVE YOUR MESSAGES ! This one struck me through and through …..the moment you said the word “ GRATITUDE” it brought smile on my face …..Gracefully 😊 Glory be to God ! I have come across the quote by St Francis Sales “ Nothing is so strong as gentleness “ in your message I felt that strength . ‘Cause sometimes our own mind tricks us by saying that we must work hard , fight hard to overcome a vice as Pride. Your message reminded me the Scripture “ Be still and know that I am God” God works through Gratitude to crush the vice of Pride ! Blessed be His Holy name ! God bless you fr ❤
I want to thank Ascension and Fr Mike.. for two recent videos which have really help open my eyes.. This one and the one on working out. I have to wait but soon I will be making a donation… I hope everyone who can will give. This is priceless food. I am sad to say I have heard this word about humility from the Lord many times before… even at the start of this lent.. and I am almost 70…but my ears opened for a minute and then my hardened heart continued on its way.. what is pleasing to the Lord ? Sacrifice ( for me a lot of prayers) or hearken? I cry to keep the word before me and by Gods grace do it! How many I have hurt by my pride, dear brothers and sisters in Christ.. this is Not honoring the Lords body. Pride is an awful sin to have. I take hope in that grace can abound.. Has God not won the victory over sin? May I cooperate and follow Him.. May I not turn back from this word and I pray for everyone who struggles with it too - May the Lord give you victory!

God has blessed me I'm grateful of where he has put me and all the loving people who are all God's people 🙏🙏🙏thank you Lord
Thank you that one bit where he said be grateful and look for things to be grateful for opened my eyes and I’m grateful for you teaching this to me
Thank You Fr Mike snd AP!
Amen! ❤
Supported $$ :) Thank you so much for all your educational spiritual content and online Masses! Love them!
Thanks Father Mike for your prayers and encouragement in all your homilies. Sorry for your mom's passing. My 🙏 to your family. God bless you.
Thank you, Father, for sharing with us. Great talk!
I will pray for you God Bless
I’ve been struggling with how to show gratitude and have been really stuck on this. Thank you for this lesson 🧡🤠🤘
This is great. Ive been too focused on myself that i forgot to be nice sometimes. But i hate it when people take advantage of my kindness, for example. So sometimess i try not to be _too_ nice.
Thank you so much Fr Mike!! I'm grateful for your videos as it helped me get back to my Spirituality. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Father Mike. I'm still learning to be less prideful but I am learning that I have a habit of being too self-centered and arrogant!
Thank you Father.
THANK YOU SOMUCH DEAR FR
I LOVE YOUR MESSAGES !
This one struck me through and through …..the moment you said the word “ GRATITUDE” it brought smile on my face …..Gracefully 😊
Glory be to God !
Very Well explain Dear Rev Fr Mike Good God bless all of you, I Pray In Jesus Holy Name Amen
