@@te9591 What other bands have you been listening to lately??? Are you familiar with the 90s NY alt-metal band Pist On at all? Check out the song 'Turbulent' sometime (such an ethereal, haunting, and beautiful chorus). Also...bassist Val was a 90s metal-goddess!! Pist On were good friends of Type O Negative (Val sang on the Type O song 'Burnt Flowers Fallen' on October Rust and Type O keyboardist Josh Silver recorded the Pist On demo and debut album 'Number One' (1996). It's actually a favorite album of mine from back in my 8th Grade days -ha. Lots of other great catchy and gloomy songs on 'Number One' too ('Down And Out' 'Grey Flap' 'Exit Wound' 'My Feet' 'I'm Afraid of Life' etc). -Devon
Great track, along with the second album. I remember seeing them on this tour in Bristol with Mary My Hope supporting (bought their album after, they were good too). Funny story, before leaving my home I threw a bag of flour over myself to look like my heroes (hey I was a teenager). Only as I walked to the stop, it started to rain. In the end I looked like what I can only describe as a walking doughboy, a human piece of black leather bread. The bus driver's face as the doors opened was just priceless. Amen.....Pray now.
I feel you mate. Did a similar thing rolling about in a new white gravel parking lot. with a new leather jacket n jeans. No dough exactly, but a very streaky white finish that was not quite what I was looking for. More Dulux gone bad than 'just rolled in off the plains!' Was a brilliant night though. Cliiffs Pavillion, Southend '89 if I remember correctly. Peace to you and blessed be!
As magnificent in 2021 as it was a third of a century ago! Fields of the Nephilim always deliver, lost count of the times I've seen them live, not once disappointed ever. They forever remain head and shoulders above their contemporaries. Long may they continue.
I played Earth Inferno to.people who only listened to hair/glam metal bands and Guns'N'Roses. They were blown away by The Nephilim"s rythmn section and bass beats. They were " how come we never heard of them at that time ? : .. I said " That's a long story ! "
@@dorianleakey from what I understand he just uses a delay pedal and his own tapping technique to do those riffs.. (not that I've ever been able to emulate it perfectly..)
Karl does a lot of burying of musical elements. It creates a texture that you can break apart that almost appears as a type of "noise" to me at first glance.

The funny thing is, the leader of the group has never tried to change himself. The band in the past and now are no different. Except for the heavier sound.
No, Carl sounds like a cement mixer now, and the band sounds like a cover band. lacking the creative spark they had in the 80s. Listen to last exit for the lost 2018 live to Dusseldorf 1991 live. A world of difference. They ride the coat tails of the original band, is my opinion.
Definitely look up the awesome dark sci-fi movie Hardware (1990) sometime...it features Carl McCoy as a cool desert-drifter and it was written/directed by Richard Stanley (who directed a few of early Fields of the Nephilim music videos as well). Dust Devil (1993) was also inspired by somewhat by Carl's character in Hardware (also by Richard Stanley).
A Shamanic Masterpeice! All members of this band deserve credit! 👍🍄🗝

Saw them 13 times and they never disappointed. Awesome band
Good count.

Tony Pettit was perfect to accompany Carl McCoy.

They were all freemasons, just so ya know! real magick!
It’s pretty crazy how Carl can go from a nearly identical Ian Curtis voice to basically death metal vocals.
death metal? really?
Goth Dark
You mean you haven't heard of a vocal range?
@@technicolorgiallo1111 no, never heard of it. Must be a new thing.

His music??
Something tells me that these guys are really brilliant, the song itself is fantastic 💀🦇
30+ years later...my fave band my fave song...
Absolute classic. Brilliant!
Tony Pettit. Amazing bass player. 3/16 delay to create this effect but even so, you have to be precise AF. Great band.
FotN, the Carl and Tony show.
I adore his playing on both FOF and in The Eden House

Amazing bass lines
Apparently its impossible to play, it requires a bit of trickery with production tools.
@@dorianleakey There are definitely sequencers at work here. However, Tony cuts it live with hardly any alterations, too.

Son unos maestros del rockgotico , suenan muy bien 😮😮😮 me sorprende cada que los escucho.......
My favourite part of this song is the chord progression, which is almost buried in the mix.
Karl does a lot of burying of musical elements. It creates a texture that you can break apart that almost appears as a type of "noise" to me at first glance.
A visual & aural masterpiece.
I have 2 extended mixes on 12" which came in different covers from the UK. To all out there, you have to hear the extended mix!
I know, right!
I prefer the extended version as well...this song should never end!!
Pray now, for how long?
We're falling from ecstasy
Like changelings
Freedom returned for new souls
Hereafter, well, enrapture me
And I'll change
Stand alone, besides you
I stand alone, in the sky's blues
Let it spill from my mouth
Sweet nectar - for a thousand young
Get ready for this
Here I come
Pray now for hours
A prayer for me - could you love?
We're falling from ecstasy
You deserve us, leviathan
You deserve us, leviathan
Our children now, their curses come
And glory days - our kingdom come
Young and old now turned to stones
Your freedom sold us
Pray now, for how long?
A prayer for me - could you love?
We're falling from ecstasy
You deserve us, leviathan
You deserve us, leviathan
A prayer for me
Let us gather hallucinations
From our private minds
Let us witness the reincarnation of the Sun
May the mountains shake you to the core
Pray for leviathan, leviathan
I hear them call
Zi dingir anna kanpa
Zi dingir kia kanpa
Pray for leviathan
Leviathan
Pray for leviathan
Leviathan
I hear them come
I pray now, I pray now
Yes I do
Pray for me, pray for me

Maravilhoso!!! 🇧🇷
Like much of gothic rock which I love, the song and band express over-the-top melodrama, dark humor, and musical links to spaghetti westerns.
Someone else who picked up on the spaghetti western angle. Viva Sergio Leone!
You know, that Sergio Leone planned "Once upon a time in the West" like an opera.
My wife and me love the Fields, and we love the Opera.
The last great UK 80s Goth Rock band.
