And for the god knows how many re-discovering swaths of Nephilim I had since 91 when my sister put a pair of early in-ear walkman headphones on me when I was in my bed saying "you gotta hear this!!" .... I realize their mystique is more fascinating than I even understood when I got to see them once. And the electronic aspect is something I never thought about. Arpeggios. Groove boxes. Occational drum machines.
I'm so happy people still listen to this, and for making these ancient gems accessible to a public who would otherwise probably never have heard of this.
Aah, the narrow minded 'nme'; only interested in trends not music, there just arn't enough swear words to express what I feel about the nme & it's anti-music, all-poseur attitude. Was only Sounds that was fair as a music paper, & of course that folded while nme & MelodyMaker slithered on..
I've been into Fields since 1988. I always missed them when they played the US, and now I'll never see them here :( FOTN haven't been back to the US since 1990.
That makes me really fvcking jealous. I also don't know how I only just discovered them a few years back, considering my favorite bands for a decade were all goth-rock/darkwave bands from this era.
A lot of people tried to slag them off as a Sisters of Mercy clone, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Back in the late '80s when I was a teenager and into "goth" Fields were the ONLY band that sounded like and had vocals like this. Sadly, the classic Fields line-up didn't stay together and there are almost no similar acts out there, not ones that even come close.
Brilliant musicians. Looking back I'm glad I finally left the spells/magic mindset behind - Stop trying to control others, instead control yourself - Find acceptance, love, assertiveness - from the chest!
I can't believe I've never heard of these guys. I only took an interest because I was curious about the singer since he was in the movie "Hardware" and I liked his look.
@@thirdstrike4u so? if anything, you should be happy that a new fan for a rather obscure band has been made. as supposed to...ya know, complaining about how they obviously are not on your level as they just discovered the band? Is that seriously your argument? ya, ok then...
@@Robcatist I was a fan in 1988, but because of school or something else which kept me from seeing them live, I never got to. It has been over 30 years now and Carl barely gets to Europe, much less the western hemisphere.

I'm so glad that I discovered this epic band from the middle 80's, unique in their style. I feel bad that the music from my era (2000) isn't into this kind of music.
whoever came up with the ideas for this video and directed it, all the people who put it together, should win some kind of award, this is a crazy, imaginative, silly work of art! esp the crucified angel? holding up the drums - genius!
Because of the opening scene of McCoy hanging I thought it was the sequel to the "Preacher Man" video. Great vídeo and excellent song, mystical and enigmatic. Authentic dark dusty gothic.
I believe it’s actually the case. In the beginning, we see flashes showing people that look like the mob in the Preacher Man video. This one just shows him in Hell or Purgatory after his execution in the final sequence of the previous video. And he breaks out of his grave, wearing the same strange glove and being adored by the same crowd at the end.
Richard Stanley directed this vid and Preacher Man and also put him in the movie Hardware and although I dabble in the Goth scene, following Stanley got me interested in Fields Of The Nephilim =D
Really, you know Bryan Ferry? Which song is that on. I find the Nephilium to be very unique. I know Bryan Ferry, the Sisters of Mercy and the Nephilium. Really well. So I really don't know what you are talking about. You really sound like a squeaking rubber ducky all right.
I never saw them play live at least 9 billion times back in the 50's before they were even a band. One of the best bands I've never seen. I mean wow. I mean gees. I mean golly gee willickers.
1:16. I remember, back in the early 90's, drawing parallels between Carl Mc Coy in that video and Bob, the character from David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Very, very strange similarities. In that video, Carl seems to be in limbo ( sorts of ) and then is escaping from it. Very dark, mysterious and hypnotising.

This band is ao damn good! Sadly for me I didn't really get into them until more recently. But man they have so many great albums/songs \,,/, There are a few bands today who also rock like this Idle Hands, Rope Sect and a couple more.
Was sent this link by a friend, who gave me the nickname, 'Blue', years ago. He told me this may give me an idea why... "ancient gems" LOL. I was listening to these guys in 1988... way to make me feel like an old fart.
Criminally underrated and ridiculed by a lot of press back in the day. Still sounds great to me 🖤

Yes sisters had a more pop rock style. Nephilim are a band I regularly spin still after discovering them around 1988
Id say mourning sun has Tool style guitar riff influences.
I recommend NFD, especially their early stuff and live album
Merciful Nuns have a somewhat similar feel, you might enjoy them!
Possibly the greatest spaghetti metal band ever
Very important band
God damn. The bass riffs in the 80's era goth rock bands are freaking awesome. They influenced 80's Spanish (from Spain) rock bands so much.
Nephilim were the kings of gothic bass
Heroes del silencio anyone ;-)
Agreed! bassline in Moonchild is awesome
throw me some recommendations for Spanish rock bands please

Thanx for the Lyrics to this awonderful song !

Carl McCoy is a beautiful man. I can't keep my eyes off him. Thank You for posting.
Many Irish people are very attractive. 😉
@The Hanging Garden Does McCoy sound English or Irish?
Raven Knight you look good
@The Hanging Garden He lives in Ashwell, near Royston, so is still in Hertfordshire. He's a nice guy, actually, and extremely intelligent.
He has the most beautiful eyes 🖤
(This is the first time I’ve seen him without his signature hat)
Best cooking programme ever!

"When this night falls" points at the sky and it's clearly noon.
