Should we rename antibiotics as antibacterial medication to make it easier for people to understand that it is effective against bacteria and not viruses?
over opinionated antibiotic treat bacterial infections. 🤯 People insist on having one for a virus which does no good . I literally spent years dispensing medication for a living .
Lo Mun Leong people wouldn’t listen . I spent years dispensing medication and they would not listen ! “ Those won’t treat a virus “ Patient : “ I want an antibiotic bc I always feel better!” These same people rarely finish one out when they do have a bacterial infection. Enter super bug and resistance. People think if they are sick they need an antibiotic and their doctors stop arguing and write the script . I was lucky to have a doctor who did blood tests before prescribing one . If you didn’t show infection- you didn’t get an antibiotic. People left him because of that . I don’t take them . One day I might need one and I want it to work . They are over prescribed . People will save left over antibiotics ( even if they are completely different) and then treat themselves for allergies mixing the two .🤯🤯 I guess we need to dumb it down more . “ not for bacteria medicine “ “ not for flu or virus medicine “ Argh!

yeah i didnt agree with their take on that either. the cases all stemmed from one place or travel from that place. then from there its human to human contact. but if the person hadn’t come from there in the first place it wouldn’t have had the opportunity to spread.
What they're saying is, to travel abroad people will hide it and spread it anyways. If no one knows it is being spread it'll spread a lot faster. But identifying the virulence of the disease can allow other nations to be prepared for it. In my country, they've started quarantine centres and check for that disease the minute some people land from those parts of the world where this disease has hit hard and even though we are very close to China geographically there have been very few cases (about 6-10 and no fatalities) as compared to nations far far away from it.
There's a reason Taiwan is doing so well against this pandemic-they called China's bluff and banned travel, instituting quarantine for anyone who had been there recently.
@@ic9310 Thanks for the info. I will preface with the fact I am a total layman (Dunning Kruger's the name). I have heard that it protects both ways. It does stand to reason that a contagious healthcare worker with a mask on is going to project their breath a shorter distance and catch the vast majority of their phlegm in the mask. I can't disagree, just parroting the info I had which I think was given to the general listener such as myself as a simple, stark difference, without adding caveats that would possibly cause confusion ( I know my memory sucks). As I understand it, the problem is that the surgical masks can still let some virus through, especially if the droplets they are carried on are small enough to fit through the weave. Also the seal isn't as tight as on a respirator mask. Which seems confirmed by the fact the healthcare workers on TV (to me) wear the full gear when dealing with a room full of covid patients, to use your logic, surely they wouldn't need respirators if the surgical masks were totally effective. I thought they used surgical masks in hospitals so as to reduce the healthcare workers risk of infection against non airborne pathogens eg spatter, and by extension, the patients risk of contracting further infections when their immune system has already taken a hammering. And to stop one dribbling over one's patients open wounds during surgery. Is this correct? You used the term "we", so assuming you work in healthcare what is it you do? (Maximum respect if you are facing this btw) I work in retail and I am worried about infecting dozens of people if I get this. If you have the time/expertise to answer this; should I wear a p100 rated mask, under the assumption that I don't have the bug yet (no symptoms, being as careful as I can, alcohol rinse between every customer) , and not contracting the bug means all the people who have exposure to me on a daily basis wont get it from me either? I ordered one already before the shortage (part of the problem I guess) was announced. Would be prepared to modify the outflow, thinking hose/tube so it aint blowing into peoples faces and stuffing a wad of gauze absolutely soaked in disinfect up the other end (tape so it doesn't blow out when I exhale). Folly or possible? Also if you are going ot tell me to wear a surgical mask instead, seeing as how unavailable they are at the moment, would you recommend using a high density weave fabric in a wraparound to try and mitigate at least some of the damage? Wash your money people btw, I can wash my hands but my boss looked like he wanted to slap me when I suggested we do the same with our money.

Hell, look at what’s going on between Mexico and USA.
I think the “travel ban” here is a bit misleading. A lot of pathologists in my region suggest a border closure in the very early stage of the epidemic, to prevent the widespread in neighborhood, which cannot not track down the viral origin and is difficult to stop further transmitting. The travel ban only becomes useless if the virus already circulated in a local level.
FYI: The information they provided on travel restrictions is false and can be readily proved as such. Chinese officials have warned the US to not loosen travel restrictions too soon because they noticed a resurgence in infections when they did. They really shouldn't have answered that question, as it's not their field or specialty.
A lot of those questions are not their field or speciality. Many of those informations they give are already debunked by recent research. Not to mention there are things people often do automatically. Without thinking. Your nose itches? Scratch. Did you touch a contaminated surface twenty minutes prior to that? Sucks...

Connda Pierce can you site scientific data on effectiveness of travel bans/border closings? The scientific data I found summarized that travel bans/border closings just other-ize the problem, play the blame game and makes the problem worse as people feel stigmatized. Instead of addressing the problem they just hide it. Hiding a problem usually just makes it worse. It’s very comforting to believe closing a border is a magic bullet to any problem. It just momentarily calms anxiety. I fell for it myself early on in this situation. I have since learned from pandemic researchers, epidemiologists and other scientists that border closings backfire spectacularly.

Apparently that particular virus strand structurally can't pass straight to humans, so they've been looking for an appropriate intermediary, enter the snake theory. Research indicated it was a mammal, not a reptile and as of now the poor endangered pangolin seems the most likely. So the bats give the virus to the pangolin and then they give it to a human who gave it to other humans, like the SARS went from bats to Civet cats to humans. Just in Oct separate research identified a number of viruses hosted by the pangolin that could theoretically be spread to humans. It's smuggled in mostly from Africa via poaching for use in all types of traditional "medicine". They were sold at the Wuhan market, but the market was destroyed before they could systematically test the animals there. The first studies ref the pangolin as possible reservoir came from China and the actual studies have to be published and peer reviewed, but they are also studying it at Baylor in the US and their findings seem to support the theory also. I am no scientist but the problem with the "data" is that it is still too early to tell. The "data" from China is questionable. The real "data" will come out in about a month when the "test subjects" (The ones outside of China, Westerdam passengers, The cases on cruise ships, the other cases currently under observation in various parts of the world, the ones who will pick up the virus unknowingly from human to human or air, surface infection, etc.) This virus takes time up to a month. @@tetsuonabiki this video is just centrists in suits telling the people to definitely not be concerned, the establishment will never be dishonest, especially in the great nation of China
Tetsuo Nabiki This is a little different. That wasn’t engineered to infect humans. They tested whether a specific protein on the surface of a coronavirus found in species of bat could possibly jump ship an infect humans. Now, they bound the protein to the surface of of a SARS-like coronavirus that afflicts mice. Then they tried to infect the mice with this modded virus which worked. It wasn’t a known human coronavirus, but there aren’t too many universities allowed to mess around with SARS or MERS. Interesting research.
This video was put out back when there wasn’t scientific consensus as to whether uninfected, asymptomatic people wearing masks could PREVENT someone else getting infected with coronavirus or not. They DID know an infected person with bad symptoms could help stop the spread to OTHERS by wearing a mask, but for uninfected people without symptoms, there was no concrete evidence that that their wearing masks would do anything. This video was also made before the discovery of asymptomatic carriers of the virus, which of course we all know about now. It definitely sucks to watch this back knowing what we know now, but doctors and public health officials ultimately always follow the science they have. They don’t want to give out false advice, based on any sort of prediction or theorizing, because that could unintentionally hurt people or bring about unforeseen consequences. So they wait on the empirical data. At this point in time, doctors/epidemiologists barely knew anything about the virus and were working off comparisons to other respiratory viruses they had seen so far, like SARS and MERS, but of course the coronavirus turned out to be extremely different than any of the others seen before, as we all now know. They also said the thing about masks because they were concerned that with people rushing out to buy masks, the hospitals and healthcare workers that needed them the most would not be able to access them due to a depleted supply. This, to them, was an unintended consequence they were trying to account for.
Srijana Smith There was global consensus on masks, which is why Asian countries adopted universal mandatory mask policies from the beginning of the crisis (in addition to mask usage being normal already in many Asian countries). In America, we faced a PPE shortage and a strategic decision was made to discourage mask use to preserve PPE for doctors. In hindsight, that was obviously a critical mistake that cost lives. MIT released a study in July that said a mandatory mask mandate in April would have saved 40,000 lives. Scientists and the medical community have long known the importance of masks.
My main take on the surgical masks is that it’s pretty obvious it doesn’t do a lot as there’s no seal, but it stops you from touching your nose and mouth, and doctors wear then in surgery so it can’t hurt to wear one? It’s not going to increase my chances of catching the virus. As long as I continue to wash my hands often
berlingoful It is a mitigation strategy but doesn’t fully prevent the disease. It is also useful for preventing carrier transmission where the transmitter doesn’t show symptoms.Yes, as you said hand washing is extremely important and to not touch orifices that the virus may penetrate. For the “Doctor’s wear them in surgery” yes, but the reason is to prevent the surgeon transmitting diseases to the patient not vice versa.
@@salamonthegreat Yes. I understand the limitations of the mask. It still has a pragmatic value for the masses, i.e. helping to prevent touching their face, reminding them to not touch their face. Thanks for the response.
I already have two N95 respirator masks from about 7 years ago when I was painting in pastels. They are terribly uncomfortable and I could only wear one for about an hour, that's why I still have two in my garage. However, my husband has an immune deficiency and had meningitis three years ago and was in a coma for five days, so he will wear the masks if he will be in a crowd. You can learn on line how to properly wear this mask. We already wash our hands constantly and carry wipes and hand sanitizer and try to avoid crowds. I do think that this is being over hyped, but teaching people how to keep their hands clean and stay home if they are sick( if possible) will help keep all of us from getting sick.
@Meow Milev Really? What I read HIV can't spread via mosquito. Mosquito drink your blood and spread their disease on trombosite blood level, when HIV transmited by leucosite. The mosquito not stab their needle deep enough to reach that HIV vein levels like sringe does.
It's spread via aerosol WHO confirms, which is about 20× as scary if you aren't wearing eye protection and an n95 mask. If you are doing both, then wear some OFF, just to be safe.
@@salamonthegreat I think you're right. In fact, they are having some success treating seriously sick corona patients by transfusion from those who recovered from serious corona infections. Something in their blood fights the corona they recovered from. Now I wonder if mosquitoes might even be able to transmit a bit of immunity from those that recovered. That would be amazing.
Closing borders is not effective? But closing doors do? Isolation, quarantine and social distancing work to decrease the spread. Seems sensible that reducing free travel of asymptomatic carriers would be effective as well.

IF 20,000,000 become "infected as easily as normal flu", in the U.S. = 400,000 deaths in one season
Theres one mistake: if you take coronavirus numbers worldwide, do the same with flu (10 000 is in one country, in germany alone its far more) . Influenza can cause between 250 000 - 650 000 deaths worldwide in a season. Corona has caused 1500 deaths after 2 months. Yet, the numbers increase. After all, the number of infected showing no symptoms is unknown. Depends, of course. Take H1N1 or H5N1 if youre curious to compare.

@@TheDennisgrass okay. Other points used for a comparison of influenza and corona: There isnt "a" coronavirus, but a lot more. This coronavirus 2019 is one that mutated. You can maybe compare it to H5N1 or H1N1. This coronavirus spreads a bit faster than the usual influenza we know, but still is not compareable to a seasonal spread of Masern. And about the influenza, about 3-5 million people get ifnected each year, from which 300 000 - 760 000 people die (15, 2 % death rate of many different influenza, worldwide). Its not that deadly, yeah. But still, I dont think the people should panic. Today (17. February) there are roundabout 72 000 infections since December 2019. With 11 300 recoveries (since January 2020) and 1 770 deaths. Todays death rate: 2,50. The numbers of infected got a peak within a few days because people without symptoms got recorded, plus many more people letting them checked. A fearful disease, yes. But no reason to panic, yet. @al-Haifawi just like he said.. hospital usually dont release recovery data.. and u cant count the disease by calculating the dead.. just like seasonal flu kill more.. like people more likely dead from cow than shark..
"and the 2% who die are the sickest; they're in the hospital already" ...that's not what we're seeing in Italy. The pattern is that the elderly and immune-suppressed clog the medical infrastructure and overwhelm the system to the point where when healthy adults need care, the resources aren't available. We're also forgetting about people who need medical treatment for other reasons, like accidents at home, or chronic health conditions which end up being neglected as they are unable to access the necessary medicines or care. While yes, it's good to tell the general public that this is not an instant death sentence, telling them not to worry about anything since 'the people who are going to die are already in the hospital' is not the way to go about this. Tell them to prepare for self-care at home, give them measures that will help them protect themselves like the knowledge of 60% alcohol-based sanitizers, the lifespan of the virus outside of the human body, examples of social distancing. Now is the time to empower your audience, not just placate them.
Did you make up the myths you're debunking yourself too? Because I haven't heard anybody say that getting it is a death sentence. Some of the claims you make beg for debunking.
Then why did my oncologist insist I wear a mask when going into public spaces and while working at Walmart. I’m listening to my dr he saved my life once so I’m listening to him
@al-Haifawi Whilst I agree that simply stating only 2% of patients that have been admitted into hospital has died isn't a useful measurement, your calculations are not a substitute for fatality rate either, the "real" fatality rate can only really be calculated once we have sufficient data, or after this virus is more or less under control. Your calculations can only be interpreted as, "Of the people that left hospital over the past 3 weeks, with indiscriminate severity upon entry, age, length of stay or pre-existing condition, 15% left in a body bag whilst 85% left alive and kicking". This fails to paint a fatality rate used to generalise the overall survival rate. Ive seen interviews and reports of patients with the coronavirus leaving the hospital in good health and free from lung infection or the virus in 10 days, some passing shortly after entering hospital and some who have been inside for the past 3 weeks and in stable condition, albeit with the virus.

Travel bans DO prevent the transmission of the virus. The passenger can bring it with him to another country.
Mechanical Hibernation got in my country through a guy who went for a business trip so yes I agree with ya
yeah i didnt agree with their take on that either. the cases all stemmed from one place or travel from that place. then from there its human to human contact. but if the person hadn’t come from there in the first place it wouldn’t have had the opportunity to spread.
Mechanical Hibernation your forgetting about illegal immigrants and human trafficking
There's a reason Taiwan is doing so well against this pandemic-they called China's bluff and banned travel, instituting quarantine for anyone who had been there recently.
This really aged like milk.
The N95 is the one to protect yourself, the surgical masks are the ones to protect others. Wasn't quite clear the way you edited that.
Not true, there are studies that prove that surgical masks protect both, why do you think we wear them in hospitals?
(Maximum respect if you are facing this btw)
I work in retail and I am worried about infecting dozens of people if I get this.

Jay Blake EXACTLY! I read somewhere the people who died were mostly older people with already weakened immune system or people with illness/weak immune system already
@iuvenis animo so, if you use infected vs dead, yes. If you use recovered vs dead... Well, you might panic.
@Jay Blake The Coronavirus is agonizing to have, even if you dont die.
So my stock of 25 corona beers won't help me... Those bastards on reddit lied to me
Link in Zelda eats bad soups lol
Effect of Travel ban depends on the people. In our country, since the government didnt take action early, people ignore the fact that the virus is already spreading.
“But we still don’t know” -Disproving everything you just said about packages from China
No worries I’ve been working in a warehouse since before the outbreak, and been handling tons of packages from China. I’m still healthy
Thats a professional talking, I trust their hypothesis to think a virus can survive in a package that is not possible since viruses only survive because of our anti bodies but if it spread in an abiotic factor chances is that it wont survive
I still get 2-day shipping from China. The virus lasts 9 days on surfaces.
Fuckin A. When she starts blaming climate change you should be concerned that this message may be carefully selected.
One day you'll grow old and realize that someone who says "I dont know" is more trustworthy than someone who says "Yes I have an answer for everything."
But the 2% who died must’ve had families and friends.
Dumb post. 15,000 have died of the flu this year.
@@Steve-wm1ol per year lol while covid19 just started in few months. You cant compares it unless you put both covid19 and seasonal flu in same period of time. In that way you can get an precise data.
Covid19 doesn't even show up in general numbers of deaths compared to the last years.
Almost the same amount of people or even less has died this year at this time than any year before...
Flu, colds, pretty much everything can kill you
You'd better get a little more up to date. Current increased testing shows that mortality rate is about the same as the flu. And they are older people are those with major health problems who didn't have much of a future anyway.
Travel bans won't work? Wtf are you saying.
I love how the closing borders argument makes them contradict themselves with cognitive dissonance. Closing borders: bad. Can't work. Restricting travel: good. Only required travel okay. Do you even hear yourself?
Sigh. They stated restrict leisurely travel to places that are most affected by the virus.
Closing borders over something like this is like not allowing anyone in your home to go in and out during flu season. Or the police not letting anyone drive when it rains heavily.
"cognitive dissonance" lol. Nice edumacation mate
And masks don't work....because most people use them wrong. Derp.
By that logic...a book sitting on the shelf contains no information if you fail to read it.
Clearly you are slow. May want to read the transcript. That is not what they said. Amazing how many people just want any reason to live in fear. Have fun with that 😊
there's a difference, closing border doesn't allow any travel.
Krawna : you’re a classic example of someone who thinks they’re much smarter than they actually are.
Now someone make a video busting the myths spread in this video by these two.
“We still don’t know a lot about this virus” but we still can go ahead and debunk Coronavirus 😳 yeah...oooookaaay
Some things are just obvious, like the fact it doesn't come from bat soup.
I expected they would debunk the WHO is functioning.
*W H O* are you talking abt🙃
Oof this needs an update probably, it's being almost 2 years since this came out
3:20 wuhan is a city, not a province, the name of that province is hubei, other than this mistake, great video thanks

@@ea2631 is that sarcasm? I hope it is.
Yep, no misinformation here ... everything really well cited and grounded In science...
The mask myth didn’t age well. Imagine how many people took this advice that they didn’t need to wear a mask and died because of it?
This video was put out back when there wasn’t scientific consensus as to whether uninfected, asymptomatic people wearing masks could PREVENT someone else getting infected with coronavirus or not. They DID know an infected person with bad symptoms could help stop the spread to OTHERS by wearing a mask, but for uninfected people without symptoms, there was no concrete evidence that that their wearing masks would do anything. This video was also made before the discovery of asymptomatic carriers of the virus, which of course we all know about now. It definitely sucks to watch this back knowing what we know now,
but doctors and public health officials ultimately always follow the science they have.
Masks do nothing and it's outrageous that schoolchildren have been forced to wear them.
Yes, it's good for keeping you from touching your face.
berlingoful It is a mitigation strategy but doesn’t fully prevent the disease.
"Mild type of viral infection"
Do you call difficulty breathing "Mild"?
I bet the Netflix or HBO documentary on Covid-19 a few years from now will show all the answers they gave on this video were incorrect.

LOL, scary stuff.
Ebola has at the SMALLEST CFR is nearly 13 times more. Highest CFR of Ebola (ZEBOV strain): 90% or about 45 times more.
This was made a month ago, could we see a replacement video? A lot of this info needs clarified or updated.
Can mosquitoes spread it?
Most likely but not necessarily.
Mosquitos can’t. It’s not a blood-borne pathogen.
Authorities should talk about the cytokine storm from this disease because thats the scary part of this disaster.
This video is lacking an update
Doctors/ nurse in full gear are still getting the virus.
No PPE can 100% protect you from any pahthogen, environmental factors come into play.
but isn’t the only way to protect yourself is to wash your hands for 20secs........? 🤔
did those people not wash their hands..?
why are healthcare providers etc wearing n95 mask then.... if what these 2 doctors suggested are foolproof.... that all we need to do is just wash our hands..
Personal protective equipment is a complement to many prevention practices. Yes, like washing hands. Nothing is 100% foolproof only better.

What do you expect ? The virus obviously came from Wuhan. Close these markets and get better cleaning done, personal and your environment and your people and the world will be safer.
As an M.D. working in the ICU, I've expected really informative and true facts given your credits and work positions, but after two sentences I've just started laughing and asked myself: "Who paid you for making this mockery?". Reality is harsh to except so someone decided to keep the people "in the dark" hiding everything behind your Ph.D.'s. Outstanding work for gaslighting everyone. But I'm not buying it. Hopefully, there are more people like me!

6:20 ~ 7:10 "Let's put things into context." = 400,000 deaths in one season
Normal flu in the U.S., 10,000 deaths/20,000,000 infected = 0.05% death rate
Coronavirus spreads as EASILY as normal flu, which has about a 2% death rate.
IF 20,000,000 become "infected as easily as normal flu", in the U.S. =
400,000 deaths in one season
Theres one mistake: if you take coronavirus numbers worldwide, do the same with flu (10 000 is in one country, in germany alone its far more) . Influenza can cause between 250 000 - 650 000 deaths worldwide in a season. Corona has caused 1500 deaths after 2 months. Yet, the numbers increase. After all, the number of infected showing no symptoms is unknown. Depends, of course. Take H1N1 or H5N1 if youre curious to compare.
Dont use math and stats to contradict the narrative. This is about calming the masses, not informing them, see their citations for their conjecture (it's not there)
@@Jamesvandaele youre fully right. My mistake
@@clairelennar1315 I edited my post to clarify the flu numbers are based only on the U.S. statistics.
@@TheDennisgrass okay. Other points used for a comparison of influenza and corona:
There isnt "a" coronavirus, but a lot more.
Many scientists advice people to stay calm and not to develope a paranoia
they should have stopped holding the "myth" up, or maybe change the text to be the truth whilst they were giving the explanation
They didn't "create it" nice slippery terminology they altered the gain of function ie they took and existing corona virus and tweaked it a little you know those 4 protein strains that are unusual.
If it's not a death sentence ,how come so many people are dying?

"and the 2% who die are the sickest; they're in the hospital already"
...that's not what we're seeing in Italy.
Now is the time to empower your audience, not just placate them.
yeah, the virus is really showing the cracks in the medical system all around the world

Thank you for this information...more people should know about this because there is already too much hysteria around it.
anyone who watches any science or medical UA-camr knows this...it's been out there since January. Medcram's doing a daily update (minus the weekends).
@al-Haifawi Facts can cause panic. Pleas stop

Gatekeeping at it's finest
If masks aren’t important in protecting yourself from the virus medical staff wouldn’t wear them. Maybe fit test stations in should be set up in communities for the public so they can learn how to properly wear the mask and get the right size? The government would do this if they really wanted the public to be protected. Will they? No.
