Kids Playing Hacky Sack - Just Another Day in the Barangay
Вставка

- Ep 68 - It was just another day in the barangay. Children in the village make their own toys and entertain themselves. I walked to my sister-in-laws house to check on the pig. Then I came home and ate my hopia with a hot cup of Nescafe. Then it rained and I took a nap.
From living in the Philippines to life on Guam, we regularly travel back and forth sharing slices of life from the 🌴 Tropic Shade™ and beyond. I have now logged over 19 years living in the Far East and the Western Pacific, and I still look forward to more adventures. It just wouldn't be paradise without all the beaches, rainbows, waterfalls, fiestas, sunsets, and happy & friendly people!

It is funny how the kids will make toys out of something so simple. They seemed to be very good at keeping it in the air. I was surprised you did not participate with them! It seems you really enjoy it there! I really liked this type of video!
I've tried, but I'm lucky to get 4 in a row. I'll just watch!
One of my good memories playing Sipa in the early seventies. No cell phone, no Internet that time, me and my cousins could play for hours after dinner and goes home tired but happy. I have 2 cats and they're spoiled crazy.
You want some more? ...Cats! lol
Sounds like a fun day..Excellent video, really enjoyed it. It's the little everyday things that make your videos so cool. Have a nice day.
Thanks guys. I enjoy making these kinds of videos.
The little girl selling ice candy is pretty..she can be a Miss Philippines when older...her skin color is nice, exotic ...
😎
Great life you have there, just having a beer while watching this better than watching the television.
Thanks! I think I will have one with you! lol
yep! I remember (sipa) our filipino street version of hockey sack , made of led washer from tin roof and a small piece of plastic bag ..
Have a Happy New Year!
Now that is what's retire life is all about, nice, one day I will be like that... Gracias and Salamat.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Start making your plans now!
Hello! Just started following your channel, look forward to following your daily living in PI.
Hi, happy to have you as a subscriber. I appreciate all my viewers! Thanks.
It appears that you are enjoying your life there. More power Sir.
Thanks and thank you for watching.
"Simple things. Simple toys,. Simple way of life." You just disproved Malcom Forbes's phrase "He who dies with the most toys wins." The smiles of those kids are priceless. (And so is an improvised hacky sack made with a washer and candy wrapper, a fresh cup of coffee and a bite of hopia on a hot humid day in Samar with an occasional shower.) We're all winners. Thanks.
Oh what does Malcom know? Someone has failed to inform him that all graves are the same size! At one time, my wife and I owned three houses, lived in the big one overlooking the golf course, had a sailboat AND a motor home, and a lot of toys. Were we happy? ... not really! My wife does miss Walmart though! lol
Amen from SoCal. Wish to be there soon. Like your videos.
Fan club....kids....hahhaha
😜
I'm here in Destin watching your great videos, thankyou

Usually at around 3am, it's mostly peaceful... until the roosters wake up. 😂
that girl reminds me of my childhood playing "sipa" with that simple toy. and oh I love watermelon! we always get them for free from our neighbors! i love hopia! now I want to go get some from the Asian store! thank you for sharing this video
Thanks for watching!

Nice video. Now we need to see you play "hacky sac". Haha. That takes skill.
Thanks, but you won't see me playing it. I was never good at it.
Eye foot coordination is not one of my strong points either.
Walking and chewing gum is becoming more difficult these days! lol
I can relate to that! Haha.
Life cant get any better then that
Most days anyway! he he
I love the philippines
😎
Love it, only in the Philippines eh.
You got that right! Thanks for watching.
as a kid, its difficult to produce a lead roof washer to be used for SIPA toy. One day while playing sipa , our toy went to the roof, so we bravely climb the roof and to our amazement we saw lots of lead roof washer attach to the nails.. We excitedly detach some old nails and took several Roof Lead Washers, and proudly show to our friends of out unlimited supply of lead roof washers.....when typhoon came...the roof of our school was detached !!!...the school principal was very angry , why the heck the roof was easily detached and why only few nails remains, when the principal realized that the students are the ones detaching the roof nails and lead washer....he banned SIPA in our school....hahha
Destruction of Innocence. That is so funny!
while playing SIPA, our feet usually get some sores and wound due to lead washers, so we cover our feet with foam or slippers so that it will not hurt and the bounce is high....but we do not have foam during that time bcoz all our sala set are made of wood our bed is made of banig ....one evening my dad drinking buddy came to our house to have some drinking session driving his old toyota car...while playing on the road, we noticed the seat of his car had lots of foam...so I detach a portion of the foam from the seat and cover my feet and continue playing Sipa. Naturally my friends are envious and complain why I use a foam while they don't. I simply told them that I took it from the car seat . So all my friends 5 of them, detach also some foam from the seat and use it to cover their foot...at 7 PM Sipa game over and all of us went home. After eating I watch the drinking session of my dad and his drinking buddies up to midnight...when they finished drinking...my dad friend went to his car...and suddenly shouting and cursing..." who the fuck detached all the foam in my car seat ? " bcoz his seat had no more foam, what remains are torn seat cover, and exposed metal springs"...am sure it wil surely hurt his ass and balls....hahahaha...of course, all of us kids deny that we took the foam and use it on sipa....hahaha we just keep our silence....hahaha
Lol!
you have many cats..Nice videos😊
Yes, now! We started with two indoor cats we brought with us from the U.S. One passed away and we wound up rescuing two. Then someone took advantage of us and dumped to young kittens on our back steps... and now they have become parents of 4 more! AUGHHH! We have already found a home for one... with more to go.
+Retired in Samar :wow!!🐹🐹🐭🐭
Yeah, wow. It definitely is interesting with the little ones running around!
+Retired in Samar :😊
Hahahhaha, that's life...having the air con on...hahhaha
😎
I really enjoyed this video it reminded me so much of the Barangay that my fiance lives in Caloocan City....Wow I did not know the kids like hacky-sack I will buy a bunch of those to take with me when I retire there, they are cheap here in the states.
I made a couple of them when I first got here and gave them to the neighbor kids. The kids played with them for about an hour and went back to the washer and candy wrapper!
Oh really wow it seems like the washer would hurt their feet compared to a soft sack made from material and cotton.
These kids are tougher than most people will ever know!
+Philo in the Philippines , it will only hit the sole of the feet so it doesnt hurt..
sometimes it inadvertently hit the bone on the foot, that really hurts..
During my days we used plants that grow in the wild called matitas... we tied them to a bunch and kick it that way.. boys kick on the inside of their legs.. girls kick outside.. I didn't know Americans play them too.
mmmm aircon... do you ever get used to the heat there? i been 4 times now and im just a sweat ball the entire time. lol
When I see 80'ish old Filipina women frantically fanning themselves, my answer is no - you will never get used to it! If they can't, you won't either! lol There are good days and better days though.
#thesimplelife
Absolutely!
Hey nice video. I'm in the States now, but was born in Samar, Dolores Eastern Samar to be more specific. Where abouts are you in Samar?
just saw some of your other videos...so you are in Calbayog, Western Samar.
👌
Really nice video, i subscribed! I will go for my first trip to the Philippines this december for 2,5 mounths. I yearn :)
So you will be here for Christmas? At least it is the dry season.
Retired in Samar Yes, first christmas alone haha. Yes, i thought that it is the best time to travel around and explore then!
It is definitely the most busy and festive time of year. Come to think of it, the season begins next month already!
Retired in Samar Okey, but do you Think it is a good time to visit between december 6 - februari 22?
It is a great time to visit. Where are you visiting to?
Every expat dream to have i want this life
Save and plan carefully... take your time and you can build your slice of paradise. Thanks for watching.
I will buddy yea you doing good job there I'm proud of you .you doing something productive not like Otero guys when they go and they mess around. You know what I mean..
Looks like you have a great thing going for yourself there Sir. I'm assuming that you are American? I'm an American also, and I was wondering how things work in regards to our taxes when we retire overseas. Do you receive social security? Do you need to file a federal tax return every year? Do you still have to file a state tax return? Of course I'm not trying to get too personal with you, just trying to learn how retirement works when we leave the USA. Maybe you could make a vlog on the topic? Thanks!!
Yes, I am from the USA. As a retiree anywhere in the world, you are responsible for paying taxes on earned income. If you are vested in Social Security, you can draw your SS earnings when eligible while living abroad. State tax returns are dependent upon your income and the state in which you reside. A good place to start planning is to Google "Tax obligations for Americans living abroad." Visit my blog for more information about planning a move overseas... retiredinsamar.com
Your sister in law is Teri twin :)
No, they are about 7 years apart.
Hello can i ask the title of the song at 2:45 If its ok? I need for my school project presentation. New subscriber here Thanks!
The song title is "Working it" and is done by the "Jingle Punks."
Retired in Samar Thanks!
Yikes, cats.....hhahahaha
😎
It's neat to watch the kids actually playing home made toys in the streets, they are not just glued unto their gadgets like most kids these days..hehe.. and how can you not believe the wife making a run for Wally world.. lol..
Many days the streets are full of children playing with homemade toys and other street games like "Tag" and others. And the wife... if she could have brought a Walmart with her when we moved here, she certainly would have. Thanks for watching!
There are too many fat pills in pinas, puto, suman, bibingka, banana cue, kamote cue, mystery banana leave treats. There no hope to lose weight there haha
I remember 30+ years ago, it was rare to see a matabat filipino... not any more. And don't forget the donuts - Krispy Kreme, Dunkin, & Mr. Donut!
I never liked hopia.when I was in Hagonoy bulacan
Some are better than others.
Yea I love the filipino people.
Mario Alegria There are different types like mongo is one!
Mario Alegria Maraming Salamat 💛
When did you change your UA-cam channel name?
I think it was in Sep 2018. Because we now include Guam in our living and travel, it just seemed more appropriate. Trust me though, I will never do that again... too much like work! lol
Oh, those poor, deprived children, forced to go outside and play in the fresh air and sunshine. Can't we raise some money and get them all cell phones and Game Boys so they can sit indoors texting and playing games till they are all fat and pasty white, just like God intended??? ;-)
PS This is probably my favorite video that you posted. Just a simple slice of life...thanks for sharing it!
Somebody is apparently working on it! The Philippines is dubbed as the "texting capital of the world." Thanks for watching and the nice comment!
You have a nice place there, but neighbors are a lil too close for my liking. The Karaoke drives me crazy. We had to move and found a great place.
Bahala na my friend. That is why we like the corner lot!
we are hearing Karaoke now and it's 2 blocks away. They are getting drunk and they are all the worst singers I have ever heard. LOL
And that is why everyone around them is getting drunk also... so the karaoke sounds better! lol
hehe. Where are you from? I am from New Mexico but lived in Alaska for 20 yrs.
I've been to Anchorage... for about 1 hour! lol
