Wait til you see her live. Its an experience ! One of my fav concerts for sure. Can't wait to see her live again. Im obsessed too. (Make sure you check out Aldous Harding too!)
The way people just go about making art (broadly), indifferent to end-of-times-malaise, keeps me going. Not to be weird. Glad you found her. I ran into her randomly too.
love the television reference, that was the first thing I thought when I listened to her album, it's like a mix between stereolab, television, and blondie but with that said she is still extremely original and hard to draw comparisons to
I needed something creative and original to listen to, so I just clicked by chance. My God I'm glad I did, I just adore her style. Time to check her album out. Thanks for this.
What a gorgeous woman. At the second high "OOoohhh" on the first track she almost starts laughing but manages to control herself! She's playing in Portsmouth (unfortunately not 'til September) and i will definitely be going.I only heard of her 10 minutes ago,but you just know when someone's good!!!
Everything about "Duke" -- from the lyrics to the melody to the guitar parts to the general off-kilter feeling to all of them -- reminds me strongly of Stephen Malkmus.
Great stuff - I love it! A little reminiscent of the Velvet Underground and Nico, though not copy cats. I love the simple arrangement with distortion and beautiful voices. Thanks NPR!
The combination of the vocals and the clean electric guitar tone is intoxicating. For me there's very little music as pleasing. In around 40 years of appreciating music I don't recall accumulating so much from a musician/ group in such a short time; Mug Museum, Me Oh My, Cyrk, Crab Day, and from her Tim Presley collaboration Drinks; Hippo Lite and Hermits on Holiday.
+Joseph Kammerer o yes friend, wonderful car. My 16 valver is parked in the drive and looks alot like the picture. She is in need of a moderate restore. Can't let it go yet. Best intentions to get it done, but life gets in the way! All the best mate.
Fantastic. Cate le bon and H. Hawkline are fast becoming favourites of mine proving that the best stuffs from Wales (see Gorky's/Euros Childs also) And no, I'm not even Welsh.
Interesting to learn that she is is Welsh, I was wondering about it, her accent, I I thought she might be Belgian or even French. I discovered her not so long ago (better late...) and like her very much. There are many things in her songs that make her both classic and also quite original. I am not a musician myself but there are really somethings that catch my ear.
Love! How glad am I stumbled across this beauty, In a strange way the accent kinda reminds me of Nico sometimes... Gonna share this with my little things.. keep them straying from the path of shyte muzak. Thank-you!
interviewer: 'why do you sing with american accents?' john: 'it pays better' that said the less rock n roll stuff they tended to do with their own accents; it makes sense to sing 'octopus' garden' that way but not so much 'yer blues'
Really cool, distinct, interesting, low-key sound of voice + guitar! Didn't expect the last note! Will look up now if there are versions with drums too out of curiosity cause I like what drums add. A lot of comments mention similarities to Velvet Underground. Gonna give VU another listen, has been awhile.
not a siiiingle soul doing it like her--an all time favorite, forever
Mug Museum is the most underrated album I can think of in recent history
+Kayleigh Saum Check out Homeshake
+Christian Lee I have actually seen Homeshake live and met a few of the band members! I like them.
+Kayleigh Saum it's the best album i have heard in the last 5 years
I couldn't agree more. I came back here to check if she had gained some momentum, but still nothing! Mug Museum is one of my favorite albums.
have y'all heard of Hiatus Kaiyote? amazing neo-soul from my homeland of Australia?
this is one of my all time favorite Tiny Desk's. y'all should press this to vinyl
"Discovered" her just yesterday and to say I'm a bit obsessed is an understatement. Amazing.

I like that they're jamming in their sweaters. Looks cozy.
Are you with me now is probably one of my favorite songs ever. Cate is a gem.
A voice as old as the hills, but as new as the sandwich I'm about to eat. Lovely. Just as beautiful live too.
She's too cool. i'm feeling velvet underground vibes for sure.
Agreed.
Niko Jr.
yeah, but she has her own swing to it for sure
Check out Nico's solo album "chelsea girl" if you have not done so yet!
Totally, Nico 3000!
Unique,beautiful,original,authentic,Welsh and wonderful......
This performance of Duke is so fantastic, Cate is so awesome.
I watched a ton of Tiny Desk Concerts, and finally, I found one I like...

+lordfarquad420 What particular album are you referring to? Her deadpan voice also gives her a Nico vibe.
@@EisforEvil There's a stong John Cale vibe too. Not just saying that because they're Welsh.
wonderful music, enchanting and beguiling
Ugh. She's amazing. So effortless
2019 just got with it now. Made for Tiny Desk and not a thing a miss.
At Greenman festival tomorrow and just discovered Cate - i'm hooked, stunning voice, great guitar playing and compelling songs. Can't wait :-)
She killed it at Greenman! her and Sweet Baboo, cracking!
i am late to the cate le bon party but i have a pretty strong feeling i will be sticking around.
Really love this woman... she's so talented !
Cate Le Bon's voice is the most amazing musical instrument I have ever heard.
Emulating Nico

I got the impression she was grinning at her sideman for hitting the even higher falsetto backing vocal :)
Ian Gustafson that was mine as well

I have been absolutely consumed by a lot of music over the decades - but rarely anything that comes close to this.
Her phrasing is captivating - caru ti Cate
Best example of voice being instrument..wow!
bliss. i have to say that the rhythm section adds a lot to all of the songs on album and live. i enjoy and like both versions.
This live version of Duke is so unbelievably awesome, yet Cate looks like she is hardly trying. truly amazing!
she's so cool and talented for sure
i love her so much :,( the first song makes me cry tears of joy watching her sing it. thanks for this NPR
Thanks Bob Boilen for a beautiful review of a youtube video I just keep coming back to.
Great to see Cate Le Bon on the Tiny Desk! We hope to catch up with her in Boston at some point. Beautiful songs. Nice work!
She has an odd Syd Barrett's solo albums and Nico & The Velvet Underground style to her. I fucking love it.
So much right about that last song!
Excellent versions. Thank you very much!
cate and her voice and words are beautiful
Pure generative creative vibrating souls Celebrate this important event. 🎉
CATE LE BON IS SOOOOO UNDERRATED. PLEASE MAKE HER RATED.
RATED R for RADICALLY PHENOMENAL
i don't want to sound overly familiar but i love when she smiles too. The songs are great and the performance wonderful, of course.
Great music and interpretation. Bravissima e bellissima Cate👏
Timeless performance
thank you radiorox norway for letting me know gems like this still exists.
Great stuff - I love it! A little reminiscent of the Velvet Underground and Nico, though not copy cats. I love the simple arrangement with distortion and beautiful voices. Thanks NPR!
gddamn this is so in-the-moment jamming. cate is THE slept on talent of the 00+s.
I hear VU influences there. Great music! Thanks NPR!
this is my favorite tiny desk concert

love dat accent
Nice to hear andsee some elctric guitars in an "unplugged" desktop session. Sweet!
you'd be hard pressed to find a sonic delight that could top this

Very relaxing. Beautiful. Thanks for the tiny desk concert. Amazing as usual. ;)
I love it. Pure, slack and beautiful.

Cate le Bon is super amazing
Aldous Harding on another level ✌️
Love this album
Great! We are going to see Cate in Cologne next month - can't wait!
I love this Pavement type lo-fi groove

Cate le Bon is a queen 👸
Fantastic voice!
is that a cheeky little tom jones ref? "it's not unusual" love it!

Hey this is about cate le bon & her friend its lovely so so u thku
Great video of a lovely performance. It was super meeting you in Salt Lake City recently.
Folks should check our Katell Keineg - especially her album “O Seasons O Castles”. Another great Welsh singer song writer.
Magic
I loved this. I'm really puzzled by the suggestion that the Beatles sang without accents though.
As well as the suggestion that Cate Le Bon sings without a Welsh accent. C'mon Bob.
@@ericmckeegan9803 He doesn't say that.he says: " Her phrasing is completely tied to her Welsh dialect," I think you mis-read

So fabulous .... wish my Bowie performances were that good on You Tube ... so cool.

What a voice and guitar playing too, as good as Kurt Vile’s.

Really nice. Glad I clicked when I did.
this sounds like nico circa velvet underground daze
I think that does Cate a disservice. Nico sang flat , not that I didn’t like the velvets but Cate has so much more vocal range
Except Cate can sing and has musical ideas.
Love!
I love ! Cate la Bon he's not to bad either. Xx Simon must be gutted that she sings Welsh Folk.
The need to change their band name to
