My pear trees are not blooming at the same time. Can I pollinate a tree with itself?

If they are self pollinating, you can. Otherwise you need a pollinizer that blooms at the same time.

Make a paste and then mix water ... finally do spray on the tree

You can probably do this with plums but unlikely to work with apples. Also there’s a risk from damaging the trees to snap off flowers. Could create an entry point for infection

As long as the pollinizer is compatible with the flowers that your trying to pollinate, it will work. The breaking off the flower is not an issue

You need certain varieties to cross-pollinate,,you can't just do it with any flower, or with any tree and if all those flowers turn into Fruit you have to thin them out otherwise you're not going to get very many big fruit you're just getting a bunch of tiny ones that will stress the tree out in the meantime and won,r be good to eat

You can try using a flower from another peach tree and touch them together and hope that it pollinates.

So this method works? Really …. Why would anyone use a paintbrush and such?

    • @growtolearn4545

Hi Tony, yes it really works, and works well. The reason for using something like a make-up brush is that it might hold more pollin in it, and if you didn't want to sacrifice any flowers from the other pollinizer. I have plenty so I just use the blooming flowers. It works very well for me.

@@growtolearn4545 Thanks for showing us. years ago I did this but I don’t remember the outcome because we had so many bees that year. Just made sense and you proved it thank you
