This is SO common among house cleaners. Nobody is paying them, nobody to impress, and nobody will thank you for cleaning your own house. You've got to do it for yourself. Great reminder. Thanks for sharing. :-)
I find using a timer and making it a beat the clock game helps me. Work for 5 minutes and stop. Look around and see what you can accomplish in 5 minutes. A lot! Also, psychological tests have shown that routines to accomplish daily chores or anything else necessary to be done over and over, becomes so second nature you are barely aware you are doing them. But, stopping every time before a chore and thinking "I hate doing this; when should I start?; I feel so guilty not doing it...etc., etc." makes it take so much mental energy that it really then becomes mentally exhausting before we even begin! There is something called "Decision Fatigue" that discusses psychological tests on this issue. Helpful life observations from you as always! Thanks Angela!
I do this in the kitchen. I set an alarm for fifteen minutes and GO. It's amazing how much I can get done in just fifteen minutes, and if I need to do more, I'll rest for five minutes and go at it again. This method helps a lot if you find standing for long periods of time to be painful due to knee, hip, or back issues. Fifteen minutes is bearable.
I love cleaning and listening to an audiobook, podcasts or leaving a documentary in the background. It's a time where I can be focused, having kind of my "alone time".
Angela, I have to tell you that this video has completely changed my life. I am so thankful for it. It has contributed to my house being beautiful now and me finally getting it done. You changed my life!!!! I don’t know if you know how significant that is. I was messy for 46 years and now my house is finally becoming more and more beautiful. And also my shower is clean always. A beautiful home is making me more hopeful about life. I am so thankful to you.
Wonderful! This made me so happy...I love this!!! You got this!! Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to write this comment, I appreciate it! 🤗
@@AskAngelaBrown it’s my pleasure. I saw the video months ago and I came back just now to save it to a playlist. It’s such a gem. So many of your videos are. Thank you for everything you do. You stated it so clearly about the importance having a clean home and how to get it done. And it really does change your life. I was raised by my dad and he never taught me basic home keeping skills and something like this may be taken for granted, but it’s so very important for us wildlings born in a barn, lol
I hate cleaning but am trying to embrace it as an act of love towards myself and my family. I asked God to help me with this and He brought me to your channel. Thank you for the helpful advice.
Angela, you are such a gift. I really needed to hear this. " Cleaning as you go " and " Habit stacking ". Also, thank you for being so kind with how you answer questions and for going the extra mile to make concepts relatable and practical by sharing your own personal examples.
Thank you for your words of wisdom... I work in child care so I haven’t been able to find a cleaner I can afford... so I’m slowly learning to establish better cleaning habits!
This may be my favorite video of yours. I've always had problems with transitions - I remember Tim Allen saying that he hated getting into the shower and he hated getting out of the shower. Because those are transitions. So when I go to clean I have to stop doing what I really want to do and transition into cleaning. Your way make so much sense and I think I can do it. Thank you so much.
I love to record “The People’s Court” and play it while I’m cleaning. You learn a lot about laws you never gave any thought to with different types of disputes. I also subscribed to some podcasts on Spotify. There are some hilarious morning shows on there from all across the country that have episodes daily. And of course, music playlists. It feels so much better when you get it done.
I am just listening this video while I am cleaning to stay motivated. I've actually created a playlist of these videos of yours about mental difficulties of cleaning (motivation, depression, clutter, ect...) and play it from waking up 'till cleaning is done 🤣😅🤷🏼♀️ I am thankful Angela🙏 Wish you the best❤
I watch videos of other people cleaning their homes for motivation and inspiration. It also helps to use yummy smelling, non toxic cleaners like Mrs Meyers. I hated cleaning. Now I enjoy it.
I love having upbeat music on while I am doing tasks I find mundane, particularly cooking! It really helps lift my mood. :) I also agree about changing your perspective to a positive mindset helps lots too! Lastly doing the task as you are using the area helps lessen the build-up/overload feeling of "have-to's" I tend to procrastinate on if put off too long and the task becomes more difficult/challenging. Small steps towards doing the tasks like shower cleaning when you are taking a shower, save time in the long run for me! I like to adhere to the "one touch rule" when possible. If I'm using something, don't leave cleanup till later. As soon as you are done using "x" clean it and put it away in it's HOME! Love when every item has it's home! That also is a key for keeping our home clean. Clutter doesn't accumulate if everything has a home that's easily accessible for fast clean up. No complicated systems that in of them selves become chores to maintain. Good info always Angela!
I do! It's called Ask a House Cleaner. You can find it on iTunes, Amazon Music, Stitcher, Google Play, SoundCloud, iHeart Radio and just about everywhere else podcasts are played. We air a podcast 5 days a week. Thanks for asking. :-) apple.co/3mXAhba
Bless your heart, my morning routine takes 90 minutes! If I could get it all done in 22 minutes I would be ecstatic! I need to figure out where I can save time! I do, however, clean as I go, and I swear by it. Every time I dry freshly washed hands on a paper towel, that damp paper towel gets folded into square and used somewhere: wipe down the mirror, snag dust off of a baseboard, polish the spigot, something. It really does add up over the week.
Hi Angela 🇦🇺👩🌾🇦🇺 Thank you for sending me this video .. I find it HARD as I HATE 🙆♀️😩cleaning too . . So I'm falling behind in cleaning .😩👈 You've sent ME 2 videos that I'm meant to WATCH !!!.. great timing 👉 🤗 👈
Great video - I’m one who hates to clean! Ha! I am the clean as you go type - hubby is not. That makes it all more difficult, but I tell myself that after having grown up without a dad because passed away when I wS 8, I would much rather have hubby’s mess to clean than lose him to heart disease, also! Thank again - you are so helpful!!!
A full clean isn’t what Angela means. It’s things like wipe the sink around while you’re standing brushing your teeth. If you’re leaving a room, pick up something on your way out. Take 30 seconds to make your bed. While I’m waiting for my sons breakfast to cook (it takes 3 minutes) instead of just waiting, I always unload the dishwasher. These things soon become habits & they’re life changing. This is from someone who would let it build up & spend all weekend cleaning so absolutely hated it. It ruled my life, I’d always be thinking about it. Making habits & routines is a godsend. It really does work if you stick with it. Xx
Cleaning adds a minute here, minute there - but if you do it every day, the cleaning becomes easier and easier to do because there is not as much build up. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I'm here rooting for you. :-)
My daughter pays for a music streaming service that keeps me going. I have playlists for nearly every cleaning task I have as well as others for my daily walks, elliptical workout, cooking, bathing the dog, gardening, etc....
Ive always been a OCD cleaner, I recently been with Lupus and arthritis. And cleaning has become the hardest thing in life. But even with my disease I don’t have a choice and become a Cleaning MONSTER! My weakness is my porcelain tile the looks like dark wood. I hate it so bad because when I sweep and vacuum. I recently got dark porcelain tile throw out the house. I tried Bona cleaner for tile and it does not look super clean. It leaves this residue of streaks and you can see foot prints? Also have tried hot water and a bit a vinegar and same result. Any tips? Thank you!
Porcelain tile sounds luxurious and out of this world beautiful. If it's showing streaks and footprints I'm guessing it's also high maintenance. Without seeing it my only suggestion is to us ess chemicals on the floor. Porcelain can usually be wiped with a damp cloth and it will remove streaks. Still, I would contact the manufacturer and find out what they recommend since they have the inside scoop on the product. Keep me posted and let me know what ends up working.

Angela Brown oh, thanks for the shower tip! I took a shower after I saw this. I’ve been wanting to mix up some shower cleaner. I thought about what you said, and got out a Mr. Clean sponge I keep in the shower. Wow, that scum came right off! My shower door is clean again! Thanks so much. I also thought about people who don’t like cleaning. I bet she is like me. I hated cleaning-until I began decluttering! Now, more and more surfaces clean faster because less things are on them. They probably have lots of CLUTTER! FlyLady has 15 minutes of decluttering daily. Just enough to not get overwhelmed. You can’t really do the cleaning system until enough is decluttered. You are so right about the bathroom cleaning process. Part of getting ready and I don’t need to think about it. Be well, Angela
