These obsessive cleaners talked down to the hoarders badly. They've both got problems so neither is really better, but the hoarders were much more understanding and self-aware.

The hoarders are disgusting but, the cleaners are too obsessive and stupid, and the hoarders do need the hard truth you cant sugar coat it is what it is pure filth
What people most of the time doesn't understand is that hoarding is sign of OCD too (it's not just about cleaning, it's much more deeper) and its difficult for them to get over the compulsion of hoarding
This show would be perfect if they actually had mental health experts working with both people, its hard to sit through and watch somone who legitimately would be helped so much by an expert having to struggle through an issue on their own.
So agree with you. And yet, in this show it seems they're trying to keep a positive vibe to everything and people are genuinely kind to each other. There's a similar show from the US on A&E channel and it's just terrible! Using hoarders - people with obvious psychological issues and genuinely in need of compassion and professional help - for their channel's activity, for viewers and judgemental junkies, feeding off people's honest struggles, mostly creating more drama - with barely masked judgements and guilt-tripping, with so-called "experts" acting completely unprofessionally, even rudely at times. Just an awful show, totally appalling! (And so typical of the US). So glad to discover this one is so different!

No, this was ideal.. Lauren needed the lesson that it's not just people being lazy or dirty, but that circumstances in life can have such an impact on humans that things can have such an outcome.. One's home is a reflection of one's mental state.. Lauren had a certain view on people that have houses in this state.. And the moment Sarah shared her story, because Lauren asked about it, Lauren felt horrible for being judgemental at first.. Her empathy showed, where at first it seemed like she had none (but that could've been because of her own anxiety), and she felt really guilty.. If both cleaners would've been swapped, Lauren wouldn't have learned that lesson.. On the contrary.. She needed that.. Because indeed obsessive cleaning can turn to the opposite side when (another) trauma occurs.. It happens more than people think.. People who are fearfull of germs can have phases where they have messy homes because of depression and other factors.. They usually avoid the clutter and live in the places that are clean and try to keep those areas clean to the best of their abbilities, until they feel strong enough to tackle the rest.. It's double the anxiety and stress.. Sarah fits that description, because her house wasn't too bad, it was just full of clutter, but it wasn't extremely filthy like other houses on this type of shows.. It reflected the clutter in her head.. But it also showed her struggle to heal and her fight to still be that woman with the clean home, that she used to be.. It's a double lesson, because Lauren has now learned as well that everyone who lives clean, can unwillingly fall into a life of chaos because of circumstances..
I used to work with Lauren for about 2 years (this popped up on my UA-cam randomly with her in the thumbnail) she was a nasty, ignorant and stupid girl who would purposefully say things she knew were nasty to get a reaction and then pretend like she didn't know what she'd said was offensive. No one liked her and she was also known for putting it about a lot. Bottom line, she deserved the other toilet more than you realise.
@@dcc-randomstorieswithmel7424 Whether we understand or not does not change the fact what is being done is wrong and as the original comment said, dehumanizing. I cannot understand how people use their disabilities as excuse to act a certain way. I think someone like you would’ve been on this Earth long enough to realize that you’re not just your OCD. Both hoarding and induced OCD are caused by the ClA via hypnosis -- that's why no one had a hoarding issue or OCD over 130+ years ago (before the men that created the ClA existed) and, they also induced/caused most of the other modern issues/conditions because they've been secretly testing on everyone and observing their reactions...
The ClA is the organization that has the full control/power and they've been around for over 130 years, and they created all industries/companies and all public figures/celebs and the media and all tech and the Internet -- they control everything and everyone nowadays...
The irony is the amount of health-harming chemicals used by the cleaners!! All those awful aerosol sprays and harsh cleaning products - their lungs must be really dodgy! That being said, I feel really sorry for both hoarders and OCD cleaners - it’s a very traumatic experience having someone come in and tell you to bin your stuff. That lady Sarah who had OCD and is a hoarder I felt was feeling really traumatised and could have done with a trained expert to help her rather than the cleaner Lauren being very judgemental.
I agree. Also I think that bleach is overrated, I started to clean my house using mostly kitchen detergent as a cleaning product and found out that I could clean almost everything with it, kitchen detergent, and steel wool, do wonders (also cheap)
I had a colleague and dear friend at work who had OCD. I first noticed when he would set out his pens in either size or colour order - we used to joke about it. It became progressively worse to the point that he was getting in to work later and later (we could set our own times). It turned out he was having more and more difficulty leaving his house. Having to go back in to re-clean things. Unfortunately, it progressed so quickly and badly that he took his own life. He was the most wonderful gentle man and we lost him through it. This is a disorder that needs to be caught quickly, I just wish I had realised it earlier. RIP Will.
Im very sorry for your loss. Thank you for exposing the debilitating side of OCD. A lot of people make casual jokes regarding OCD but its a true hell for those actually living with it. Thankfully, Ive only had a few episodes in my life but the unbearable anxiety and endless compulsions that come with it are enough to want to end it all. You are doing a real service to your friend and others like him ❤
This! My mum literally laughed at my psychiatrist and said he was wrong about his diagnosis when he told her I have OCD. She replied ''She doesn't wash her hands every 5 minutes. She can't have OCD'. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ My OCD is trichotillomania (obsessive hair pulling) and I have since been diagnosed with Real Event OCD. Neither to do with cleaning.
@@alaurahwillow155 yes it’s so annoying when people don’t understand ocd and how complex it is! I have skin picking disorder which is caused by my ocd so I relate.
Instead of laurel trying to force her to get rid of everything... she could of said "Your children aren't using these things but another child might need them and will love them. It's not all going to waste." Then she wouldn't feel so guilty getting rid of things.
Yes! It is so hard to watch the episodes were both people are struggling and don’t know how to emotionally help the other person. My favorite episodes are when they work together and help each other physically and emotionally. Some people are so good with their words
Yes, the clean and tidy one was in the wrong and the one who child was taken from her for a year because she was too busy getting high was in the right. All hail the druggies and boo to clean, decent people.
I´m very impressed how well Emma took that challenge. Other people, even without OCD, migth have run away. And she wasn´t even judgemental at all, just sweet and very helpful. And besides John´s stomach being made of stainless steel and fit for a circus career - he seems to be a very nice guy who must have loved his mum very much. He wrote a birthday card for her even though she had died many years ago. Never heard of that.
Too true. Emma was actually really considerate and conquered her demons and OCD traits when working with this gentleman. She certainly did much to aid his distress and even strengthened her own abilities when managing her own personal cleaning rituals and habits.

So his mum died 15 years ago aged 85. He admits he's never cleaned the toilet. So he was happy to have his aged mother cleaning around him while HE did NOTHING. Reprehensible.
He's an absolute disgrace. I would've made him scrub his own faeces off that wall. He took advantage, now he'll go another 15 year's before he gets the next person to come in and clean his shit. Honestly, he can't/won't throw his own toilet roll out when it's finished .. shameful!
His mother might have had her share in his personality. There are women who don´t accept others doing household stuff, like my granny. Every time I wanted to help her, she became quite agressive: "Go away, don´t do it, let it go, you do it wrong anyway. I have to do it by myself, nobody knows to do it like me." She even shoved me aside sometimes, lol.
What Lauren said about her having OCD but not being clean made me so angry... OCD isnt just the cleaning stereotype, especially if its appearing with another condition like depression.
Really annoyed how Lauren judged right away. OCD is not just about cleaning its compulsive behaviour that can take over. Yes Lauren did do a good job but should have used this to reflect on her behaviour towards others.
Judgement comes from lack of awareness, so Lauren who probably had no idea hoarding can get this bad was quick to judge. But of course she learned. So let’s not be quick to judge her. I think Sarah needed someone strict like that to let go of her possessions.
Lauren was awful with absolutely no understanding considering she is at the extreme opposite end of the scale, I found it a very hard watch, I think Lauren should has increased her knowledge before going on the programme, she does seem naturally abnoxious, mental health aside.
But I think she did do that towards the end, she obviously gained a lot of empathy and admitted to her own problems and she said she regretted being judgemental towards Sarah in the beginning
@elenavojinovic2407 If you had ANY class you wouldn't sh*t in another persons house in the first place. Try timing your bowel movements so other people don't have to clean YOUR "skid-marks" from THEIR toilet!
One of the best person on the show so far actual took challenge. Emma is a gem. Very nice person. For the very first time I felt she fulfilled her purpose for being in the show.
I like my home clean and clutter free, but this woman Lauren is very judgmental talking down to Sarah like she's five years old; there's really no need for her attitude.
Yip. People must respect her way of living but she has no sympathy for others... I mean making guests use a public toilet etc is not normal... The hoarder always seems to end off better after the clean than the cleaner. They don't change a thing... Which seems a bit hypocritical seeing that both are extreme
I agree, i was looking for this comment. She is not very understanding anyone with common sense knows this is to do with mental health and in this lady’s case also trauma from her drug abuse years where she felt she abandoned her kids
@@ES11777 Not really. Also that selfish kind of attitude is all that is wrong with society. Plus sending guests to use a public toilet I bet she doesn't consider any guest who may have IBS or any other digestive conditions.
Let's not forget Lauren is also a sick person. I feel like she was in shock with the dirt etc. I have OCD and places like that trigger me A LOT as well, I actually understand why she acted horrible to that lady. And you can see as she got to know her more she opened up and actually was quite sweet with her.
When I first started watching this series I thought it was a bit exploitative of the sufferers from OCD. Having followed the show for a while, I realise that both parties have problems and they help each other to confront the fears and the reasons why they are the way they are. I love it.
If I was Sarah's daughter I would throw away things without her noticing lol, specially the things in the kitchen. No way I would prepare my meals on the floor like that
@@djlivvy46 they won't even notice. When my ex husband and I moved in with his mother after his father passed, the house was very similar to this woman's house and I did slowly sort and throw things out one at a time. She never noticed! Very occasionally she would ask about a certain item, and we would just tell her it was packed away in the garage and she was always happy with that answer.
@@MademoiselleCarel my mum is a hoarder not to a dirty extent but still has clutter in her house. Everytime I have gone to help her she would become very upset and anxious because she can't accept things being let go of, especially if done by someone else.
John claims he doesn't get ill from the old food, but has sprays of liquid food poisoning hitting the wall behind his toilet... Lauren is a genuinely good person.
Watching this and then watching a video by Aurikatariina really brings attention to how the filmmakers don't really care about either the OCC's or the hoarders. Both groups are suffering with mental health issues and all are deserving of respect and understanding. Instead, shows like these simply exploit them both in the name of spectacle, sometimes shaming or even mocking them. Aurikatariina, on the other hand, never even reveals the faces of those she helps, refusing to exploit these vulnurable people. The way that she speaks so kindly of them just goes to show how ugly these other shows are and how we ought to be treating each other. With patience, respect and understanding. ❤
Lauren so worried about germs that she doesn't realise all the bleach shes using can cause her harm, she literally said "I use 2 bottles of bleach a day, have to make sure that either your eyes are watering, your nose is runnning or your eyes is stinging" like bruh that's too much bleach!
And I bet her immune systems are shot!!! We need germs and bacteria for a stronger immunity.. I bet if she ever gets a cold she's flat out for weeks and then will blame getting sick on something she failed to scrub 15 times with bleach
her house is actually kinda clean just messy. I'm the same I have sterile mess in my place everywhere lol I clean underneath the books clothes and stuff then put it back on the ground haha
@vanessaruiz4705 considering the house most likely smelled of mould, I understand why, especially with the bathroom. The other woman was just plain horrid throughout the interactions not realising there's more than 1 type of OCD
I mean I have a very slight hoarding problem (cardboard boxes) and my house doesn't stink. Its kept clean and what not. Ofc I don't have as much as these people do.
The fumes of bleach, is actually one of the reasons it's illegal to have it on commercial premises. I know we're talking residential here but it's really horrible and dangerous stuff-in terms of what it actually does to you.
I’m a professional cleaner and there is NO WAY I would shame my customers like that. You catch more flies with honey luvvy. Show by example and build people up.

I always wonder why they do not stress how giving all the new and unused stuff away to charity will make somebody else very happy. There are so many children whose parents cannot affort buying them toys.. I'm sure it would help with the parting process.
I'm assuming you don't have a hoarding problem. Not very much helps with "the parting process" it feels like you're giving away your vital organs. While I'm not as bad as these people.. I do have a habit of.. Collecting cardboard boxes. Especially foreign ones.
@@Kat-mu8wq I also have that habit of collecting boxes or other things like that and I feel like throwing something so special. I get sad when people don´t understand me like my parents. One time my sister was ranting at me that I could just sell a Nintendo 3DS that I had but stop playing in it, the thing was that I was worried if my interest in the console would come back and didn´t have it, she didn´t understand. I also do that with food, strangely enough, I´m scared that I eat all of it and then do not have anything left, so sometimes the food expired so I had to throw it away. It's really hard for me to give something away or throw it in the trash, I always have the feeling that it could become important.
@@nugg_goblin3032 Indeed. My mother doesn't understand my box collection.. She sees it as rubbish, but to me it's important.. I cannot explain why I feel a box is important, they just are..
I get angry that people just assume that OCD is just about cleaning or it’s just about one specific thing. As someone who has obsessive overthinking about my relationship and other stuff, it breaks me that some people are like this. It’s stressful and heartbreaking 😞
Cleaning your things when you bring them home from the supermarket is one thing, doing it daily makes no sense but then again, she clearly has severe OCD issues so it wouldn't make to me who doesn't, so I can accept that we see things differently on that front. That much bleach is terrible for the environment and actually prevents you from having the healthy bacteria you need to be healthy. It must be hard when your OCD is not a cleanliness one and people rubbish your diagnosis because of the pre-conceived notion that all OCD people fit into a perfect little box of "ticks". Lauren started very judgemental but she realised that it was wrong thankfully.

This episode actually made me sick to my stomach at the beginning, but what an adorable episode. I loved the people they helped, and really feel they got some help themselves.
I loved Emma, I didn't mind Lauren but the way she approached with her words was a bit harsh. I know a harsh approach can work, however you can tell it was a struggle for Sarah to let go
i’m a 13 year old teenage girl and i am OBSESSED with cleaning, i totally agree and understand that coming into a clean house makes me so happy!! i absolutely love to clean/organise absolutely everything and anything. it’s so satisfying and fun.
Emma seems like such a sweetheart and quite caring and respectful even with the state of the place where as I found Lauren to be very rude and judgy and really talked down to the lady she was “helping”
They should provide more support and education on mental health when people come on the show. What some people don’t realise is hoarding is also a form of OCD. And with mental health problems lack of compassion and understanding makes it hard for people to recover. I can’t help but think after the show is over they will just go back to their old ways and the real problem won’t be resolved.
This episode was so good, it didn’t feel heavy or anything. I was so happy about how willing they were to help even tho we know how hard it is for them to give things up. The girls was so nice to them, it really made my heart melt ❤️❤️
It's to do with what is acceptable and unacceptable to society. Both the 'cleaner' and the 'hoarder' has a disability but one is seen as acceptable and the other is not. It must be traumatising for both people to deal with the situations they are placed in during this. Using disabled people as entertainment is sickening
What always gets me about the cleaners is they actually don't seem to know anything about germs. She's flushing a toilet without the lid on which sprays germs all over the room. Putting her whole body all over it so she's covered in germs, putting a bottle of hand sanitiser she's just used under her elbow so the germs from that are all over her clothes. The other one was using a hover brush that's been all over the floor on stuff you touch like the remote etc. Bet if you used one of those germ lights over their house it's actually worse than a regular person's
I feel like it’s more about the feeling of control than the actual germs. One of them bleaches his vegetables, which is HIGHLY discouraged. It’s not as logical as the sufferers think.
I agree, the practical tips and cleaning hacks shared in the show are really useful. It's amazing how these professionals handle such challenging tasks with efficiency and expertise.
The hoarder who was struggling to discard of anything was someone who I felt for. We all hold on to things with the intention that we'll use it at some point. Before we've realised it we've accumulated a lot of things. Funny to see her discover some money in her house during the clean-up. Wish I was that lucky here. The most I've found and come across is a few pounds behind the sofa.
It would be more interesting if they made a following episode where it shows how they are coping with the new life style after several months or years…
From watching Hoarders I have classified the situations they deal with into 2 categories: Hoards can either be *wet* or *dry* . Dry hoards can be cleaned up reasonably well by removing the junk, as it's mostly inorganic clutter. Wet hoards contain food, waste products (human or pet) and decaying rats, mice and possibly missing pets. In those cases you basically need to tear everything out.
A little extreme and unsettling when we heard that Lauren sprays her friend before he enters her home because she doesn't like the smell he might have from the pub he attended AND allowing people to use her toilet but only to urinate.
@@PositiveRaincloud Perfectly understand your comment, however, it's not always that straight forward. Sometimes you can feel unable to contain yourself for whatever reason. I would never use someone else's toilet other than to urinate BUT on one occasion I was struggling from something I ate earlier in the day and used a friend's toilet for more than just to pass urine.
I'm an OCD and I suffer psychosomatic disorder as well, and I can't poo in public toilets or other people's toilets, I just don't feel the urge to poo. Only when I'm forced to poo in a public toilet because of something I ate, I'll line the toilet seat with tissues first 😂

I am OCD diagnosed and my house looks only a little better than these homes. OCD manifests itself in different ways. I never buy things I don't need, but have a hard time getting rid of stuff. It is so time-consuming, as I feel like I have to read everything before I put it in the recycle bin, or look it over excessively first, to make sure there isn't anything stuck on it that I want to keep, and to make sure I didn't write a note on it.

And EXPENSIVE!
They die clean LOL! Imagine inhaling 2 bottles of bleach a day!
I think the smells of cleaners can be addictive. It is not healthy at all..
RIP Will.

Correct! It is understood that hoarding is a type of OCD

It can be quite hard to watch an obsessive cleaner who doesn’t think they have a problem . Where as the hoarder knows they do
It's to do with what is acceptable and unacceptable to society.
They bleach and use antibacterial wipes for everything so that negates your logic
also putting dirty gloves near their faces?? ick
I feel like it’s more about the feeling of control than the actual germs. One of them bleaches his vegetables, which is HIGHLY discouraged. It’s not as logical as the sufferers think.

It would be more interesting if they made a following episode where it shows how they are coping with the new life style after several months or years…
Agree! I would enjoy seeing if the hoarder person cleaned up more, and if the cleaning obsessed person was a bit more relaxed in their routines.

I lived with it for years and had no idea it might be OCD because I had grown up with the stereortypical depictions of OCD presented in the media. Being diagnosed and getting help totally changed my life! Hope you're doing well dealing with your OCD.
@@patrickdoherty4527 thankfully, i am in fact doing great dealing with ocd with the help of my therapist alongside with supportive parents and friends. i am grateful i have supportive circles that encourage me and never belittle or invalidate my feelings. i hope you're doing well too! i know we can fight this together
Life is hard, depression is a big thing. It’s rude to judge peoples mess, just keep that in mind.
"If a moth flies out of somewhere that just proves it hasn't been used for years!"
How long does she think moths live for? 😆😆
maybe she's confused it with a vampire bat
"you've got a hairy plug hole"......am I the only one who had to have a giggle at that?
I also had a giggle at Hayley cleaning her mattress, lots of talk of beating and sucking off. She can’t not have realised what she was saying 😂
@@gepardipoju before I met my wife there was a lot of beating but no sucking off 😂😂😂 actually it's still like that lol
cheeeeeeky
My mum's house has always been a mess like Sarah's house but even worse. At 13 my social worker said that I needed to stop being so ungrateful and just be happy that I had a home. I was grateful for having a roof over my head but I once tripped over a pair of my mums boots on the stairs and broke my hand & collarbone. 🤕😖
@Latte Extra I didn’t have friends anyway 😅 but it sucked not having a space to do homework except sitting in my top bunk as only I had my top bunk and a chest of draws as “my space” as the rest of my room was taken up with junk. It was suffocating. I’m a minimalist now 😄
Thats so sad
@@alaurahwillow155 I'm a minimalist as well... that social worker should have called in a cleaning team and made sure you had a safe, clutter free, clean environment
@@alison2984 The social worker knew that my mum was perfectly capable of cleaning it herself as she was a cleaner for a living. They also knew that her friend had been in to declutter the house before but my mum just filled it up again with a couple of months. The social worker just didn’t care.
Mine too and now she is gone into care and I have to clean and clear it so we can sell it. I will not miss it one bit.
I'm a Nurse who suffers from OCD, I'd do a 12 hour shift then come home and scrub for 3 hours. I'm drained. It really is debilitating...
I have a hard time getting started on my cleaning, because I dread the time it is going to take, or I worry about coming across something that will upset me and trigger a week-long fight in my mind to deal with the situation. (I am an HSP -Highly Sensitive Person).
In public, I always feel I am leaving something behind when I leave, so I "over-check" the table, floor, etc. to the point where someone will say, "What the hell are you looking for" ????? It makes me feel out-of-control. 😢
Anyone notice how her toilet was dirty under the rim? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where? What time stamp?
@@ES11777 @2:57
some of the compulsive cleaners are so smug and superior, it really annoys me
Hey Rosie I know, right! There’s no need for it
@@CleaningwithTelma you're so pretty!!! ☺
@@vamparella7092 awww thank you. You are so sweet
Let’s keep connected 🥰
Lauren has a problem
I feel like emma with her kindness was really able to make a change in john
Learning from eachother is the best experience!
That is great how everyone was able to help each other, as well as empathising with one another.
This is such a good show! People are troubled and should be helped, thank god we now know how people struggle. It was so touching, especially when they shared the story about drugs addiction and guilt, I got teary eyed. Thanks for this show, went to clean my lounge room
Trauma. Denial. Mental Decay.
I really hope people ended up receiving support for their mental health after this experience.
A follow-up would be amazing.
(Still not sure how feces could end up on the wall)
Something doesn't sit right with me - both the cleaners and the hoarders have OCD/mental issue. It is good to clean, but cleaning every day everything is a sickness itself - why isn't this addressed?
OCD isn’t just cleaning
It’s about empathy
'my guests can only pee in my toilet, no poo allowed...if they need to do poo i will take them down to the nearest public toilet and bring them back' that is soooooo ridiculous lol.
