The irony that you talk about knowing when to end things. The BG series should have ended with Throne of Bhaal where the Bhaalspawn story was completely wrapped up. BG3 shamelessly used the series for name recognition but is really completely unrelated and could have been any generic DnD game.
The game is already more complete/has more content then most games in years. It's good that they are moving on and don't have to milk BG3 for the rest of their lives.
Larian doesn't need to make DLC. They did what they wanted to do, and now they're moving on. The future of the game is in mods, and they know that. Toolkit Unlocked already introduced possible customer campaigns.
Exactly the decision they needed to make. Free themselves to really make whatever they desire. Also your pronunciation of "Joachim Vleminckx" was absolutely hilarious. It's pronounced "Yo-Ach-Eem Vlay-Minx" ;) -Greetings from a very proud Belgian
tbh I get the whole "our heart wasn't in it" bit, but I really wish they would do more with Baldur's Gate. It was such a gem and such a fun dive into the Forgotten Realms done right and we're not likely to get another like it. Whatever they make next will obviously be good, but whatever D&D/Forgotten Realms based video game we get next has a good chance of not being 1/10th as good as Baldur's Gate, and that's a bummer.
There is simply no game like Baldurs Gate 3. It's an amazing game that has a captivating story, fantastic immersive voice acting with challenging, tactical, yet flexible gameplay that has mechanics that conveys the idea of adaptability and freedom in everything you do that will immerse you in the world and will grab and hold your attention all day! Larian Studios has definitely delivered. It's sad to see them move on from this franchise. But onto the next project!
Truly bittersweet but understandable. They didn't predict it's major success and treated it like a passion project. Not continuing makes a lot of sense.
Larian wrapping their heads around how to raise the quality bar even higher. Meanwhile i'm still happy as one can be about the quality bar being picked up off the dusty floor.
You clearly forgot to mention the predatory behavior of WOTC/Hasbro. They want to squeeze every penny from every D&D material, and they want to silence every competition. That's why the GM mode never arrived in BG3 even though DoS2 has it.
Great on them for knowing not to put something out when their hearts not in it instead of pushing something out for money. Let a studios lead its content by passion while being smart about it.
Honestly? Why does it need a DLC? It’s good to make a complete game for once. A hit it and quit it success is refreshing in an industry where if a game does well, it gets drug along for sequel after sequel, to spin off, and then eventual remakes and remasters.
If WOTC had any brains at all they'd offer Larian complete creative freedom, throw money at them and tell them to make whatever they want so long as they take a cut of the profits.
Hopefully after they have moderate success with their next owned IP they need some of that sustainability money and develop the next Pathfinder game for Paizo as revenge.
One of the reasons that BG3 is so good is because of the passion that the folks at Larian had for the project. If they did DLC, it would've just been for the money.
They said goodbye for two reasons one if you’re going to leave a series you leave on a high note and you can’t get much higher than this second if this is the high note that you hit with someone else’s franchise you naturally want to do something similar for your own own franchise. Now you have clout now when your next game drops people are going to pick it up. Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 were amazing games, but they were the springboard for BG3. Literally 10+ years of developing their own engine went into BG3. Divinity represented all of that work all of that understanding and now they’ve said let’s go do it again, but this time put our own franchise behind it because you make more money that way.
Baldur's Gate 3 was launched with a complete and mostly fulfilling storyline. Over seven patches they've added numerous free content and lastly mod tools. Now the mod community can take over and Larian can move on to other projects.
The modders will dutifully handle the task of adding content to this game for years. Larian is smart to move on, let them do what they do best and give us something new.
Played BG3 like crazy last year, then stopped (in the middle of my ..err... 7th play-through, I believe?). Then I caught a nasty cold a couple of weeks ago and while recuperating at home fired up the game once more and... I'm completely immersed again. Yes: I've seen quite a lot of the game during all these runs, but I'm fairly certain I haven't *really* experienced it all - although that could be due to the fact that I loathe playing an evil character, so I kinda limit my experience myself in that way. :) That said: I wouldn't mind some DLC or a good expansion, but we all know how hard those can be to pull off.. especially with a game like BG3 that features such a detailed and rich story that has a definite ending to it. Expansions to a game like this can feel quite anticlimactic - I'm looking at you, Dragon Age Origins Awakening. I guess what we really need is a new, full-blown "module"/adventure, aka BG4 - hopefully with some of the old characters making a return.
I think from a narrative perspective they painted themselves into a corner. A prequel would have to end where the beginning of the base game picks up. This would reduce the number of meaningful choices you can make. A DLC that takes place after would either have to account for every possible ending or nullify those decisions by choosing a “canon ending”. I think the former would have been what they wanted, but it would be a technical nightmare to implement. The best thing for Larian and the game was to let it rest and fill out some of the ending cutscenes like they did.
I don't think Larian needs a D&D setting to deliver another banger. They just need to stay true to themselves. If they maintain the same studio culture, they'll deliver another game to be proud of.
Even in early access it became clear that this wonderful game was the GOAT. With Larian’s farewell gift, I’m curious to see what modders can contribute even more… but that’s all just bonuses at this point.
Dammit Larian. They could make a DLC not about what happened after the main plot, but about what happened before the victory. If only they add a new location within the city, a few quests there, a bit of content for each companion and maybe a couple of scenes for each of them - that would be enough for us to scream "Shut up and take my money!". Pleeeease
It would be amazing to explore Avernus and Upper City (cut content) but I understand devs decision 100%.. if they would be "forced" to make a DLC it would probably be subpar quality, you can't make an amazing story-driven game if the fire is out. Just hoping they make it possible to heavily modify the game (not just items/ simple mods), so it becomes possible to add new maps and stories.. With AI it's even possible to make new voice lines for origin characters. I have an extremely good idea for a dungeon
To be honest Larian did brilliant job and produced magnificent Baldur's gate game . The problem from fan perspective is that the level cap of the adventure is 12th level . That's more than disappointing but in general the game is truly masterpiece !
dropped DLC, gave the players the tools to make OUR own DLCs instead. MFs Legends.... Can't wait for the community to create Baldur's gate 1&2 remake on BG3
I love skyrim and morrowind. I didn't even play baldur's gate 3 (yet, and probably won't until the price is very affordable). Yet i'm really excited about their next game. I can't say as much for any other game.
If the game gets any longer it will become a chore, For me personally its hit the perfect spot of long enough to really get into the game but not too long that you rush to the end just to finish it. Mod support has been added to PC and sometime in October it will be added to consoles, Which adds a massive amount to replay value.
as a D&D fan and player, I'm kinda sad about their decision, they just nailed it, BUT it's kinda understandable that after more than half a decade they want to do something else god speed Larian

@@ecmonkey13 I’m sorry but the other reply you got is right. That game does not even compare. There is a reason BG3 was the first game ever that won every major game of the year award. Like it or not, it’s the game people will hold up as how rpgs should be made for the next decade at least. Unless they outdo themselves with their next release.
@@bencarleto8443 bg3 is better the all of those, by a pretty big margin at that.

Absolutely tragic that we’re not getting more content for this game, but they’ve more than earned the right to move on to something that gets them excited again. Looking forward to whatever they come up with next!
I've just started a new dark urge playthrough and after several hundred hours in this game, there's still new cutscenes and WILDLY different scenarios playing out.
They don't need to do anything extra. Thank you Larian for many years of top CRPGs and many more to come.
Larian being both gracious and fun-loving is such a good quote.
Sven please keep doing whatever you do.
Larian! Best company on the market! Sven the best director! Larian staff the best staff! Sound and loyal staff policy! Sound and non greedy prices for their products and no greedy microtransactions, lootboxes or similiar! Great games in the forefront of the industry! Keep the good work up Larian! You are a great example to the rest of the greedy and shady gamin industry! Looking forward to your next two games Larian and Sven with high anticipations! 🥰🥰🥰 🥰🥰
BG3 was my first real RPG, my first D&D, and now I'm on my third playthrough. Incredible game.
bg3 really feels like what happens when everyone on a project absolutely adores what they're working on.
Congratulations again to Larian and everyone involved. That game changed my life.
Larian made a GOOD game. They're not interested in making a content farm. Wish some people would know when to let things end.
The irony that you talk about knowing when to end things. The BG series should have ended with Throne of Bhaal where the Bhaalspawn story was completely wrapped up. BG3 shamelessly used the series for name recognition but is really completely unrelated and could have been any generic DnD game.
Wizards booted all of the people Larian worked on BG3 with, and that soured the mood is what I've gathered.
The game is already more complete/has more content then most games in years. It's good that they are moving on and don't have to milk BG3 for the rest of their lives.
Let modders do their work, instead of a dlc. Let Larian focus on their next game, which we all want as soon as possible 🍻
If they released a modding kit that would allow people to make their own campaigns… that would probably be more than enough.
@@jesusofbullets a mod was released that unlocks it completely. So if you or a modder wanted to, it can be done.
Larian intelligently listened to the fans and made a banger
And all this led me to a little ship called the Lady Vengeance and my new love of Malady.
This game is so much better than 99% of games
Nothing can beat the bear mating simulator 3 right?
@@threestars2164 I friggin lost it when I saw the stuffed bear with the Italian clown hat, lol. 🤣 (5:30)
Larian doesn't need to make DLC. They did what they wanted to do, and now they're moving on. The future of the game is in mods, and they know that. Toolkit Unlocked already introduced possible customer campaigns.
A DLC from Larian or even BG4 takin us from Lv 12 to 20 A La Bg1 and 2 would be awesome
Exactly the decision they needed to make. Free themselves to really make whatever they desire.
Also your pronunciation of "Joachim Vleminckx" was absolutely hilarious. It's pronounced "Yo-Ach-Eem Vlay-Minx" ;)
-Greetings from a very proud Belgian
Larian has earned life long fans, I’m sure whatever next project they do will sell massively.
As long as Larian never loses their passion, I think they'll do great!
That's for the better. We have already received a masterpiece and in the future I'd hate to see the name ruined by greed
Very good. It's nearly impossible for BG4 to be better than BG3.
We will bring Avenus! The mod toolkit is ours, thanks larian!
tbh I get the whole "our heart wasn't in it" bit, but I really wish they would do more with Baldur's Gate.
The story is a complete and utter joke. Typical fantasy bs - nothing more.
@@threestars2164 Listen buddy, if you don't like fantasy, why did you play a fantasy rpg?
Truly bittersweet but understandable. They didn't predict it's major success and treated it like a passion project. Not continuing makes a lot of sense.
Larian outdid themselves - Baldur's Gate 3 is amazing 1 year later. I'm still discovering new things - amazing!
Larian is proof all is not lost for the games industry.
A rare instance where we got close to perfection and nobody screwed it up.
Larian wrapping their heads around how to raise the quality bar even higher. Meanwhile i'm still happy as one can be about the quality bar being picked up off the dusty floor.
Wizard of the coast probably was the problem.
Great job Larian! They are what Blizzard used to be. Can't wait to see what they come out with next.
TLDR: Clickbait title with no answer in the longwinded unrelated video itself. Typical IGN bullshit.
Larians the best studio out there cant wait till whats next
Honestly? Why does it need a DLC? It’s good to make a complete game for once. A hit it and quit it success is refreshing in an industry where if a game does well, it gets drug along for sequel after sequel, to spin off, and then eventual remakes and remasters.
I mean, I would have loved a little more story, mostly a chance to fully save Karlach. But I am completely satisfied with what we got.
If WOTC had any brains at all they'd offer Larian complete creative freedom, throw money at them and tell them to make whatever they want so long as they take a cut of the profits.
@@JimothyTheGreen WOTC and brains? Let me think about that for a minute…
Rememeber when everybody unironically thought Spiderman was better. That was a comedic time to be alive.
Larian released the full modding tools recently, so we can probably expect plenty of new BG3 content in the form of mods in the coming years.
It’s like progross and process. Things must move on. It’s on to the next. Whether it’s breaking rules or making new rules
You never answered the bloody question.
While I can't say I'm not sad about the cancelled DLC. . .I can say I'm more than happy of what Larian will cook up next
Because Wizards of the Coast is terrible to work with and simply does not respect it's artists, that's why.
Baldur's Gate 3 was launched with a complete and mostly fulfilling storyline. Over seven patches they've added numerous free content and lastly mod tools. Now the mod community can take over and Larian can move on to other projects.
WotC making horrid business decisions and ruining D&D as a product probably didn't help Larian decide to keep developing D&D games.
That said: I wouldn't mind some DLC or a good expansion, but we all know how hard those can be to pull off.. especially with a game like BG3 that features such a detailed and rich story that has a definite ending to it.
Such a great game. Swen is an inspiring guy. Hope to be that kind of developer one day!
They will come back. And we will storm through the years as we wait ♥
The first ever studio in a decade that known when to stop. THey would do great, whatever they do next.
Larian would make my decade if they bought DragonLance from wotc and made that into the biggest CRPG ever made!!!
Give the licence for BG4 to Ubisoft. Watch the poop hit the fan on the internet.
Don’t give them ideas…. Just as bad as modern BioWare
you have literally created a script for a horror movie.
Sony then. They did well with GoW. They could continue BG4 or a new DnD game for consoles
@@jack-boe8751 *Cinematic quick-time events ensue*
Dammit Larian. They could make a DLC not about what happened after the main plot, but about what happened before the victory. If only they add a new location within the city, a few quests there, a bit of content for each companion and maybe a couple of scenes for each of them - that would be enough for us to scream "Shut up and take my money!". Pleeeease
Why would you work with so incompetent company as Wizards of the Coast?
As much as I love BG3 and Divinity 2, I'd love to see Larian do a new genre with their next rpg.
It’s cause they were unleashing Modding to the community so they figured they’d just make the DLC, Larian you did enough thank you for your service
because wizerds of the coast is absolutely off their rocker atm, more so then usual.
I love skyrim and morrowind. I didn't even play baldur's gate 3 (yet, and probably won't until the price is very affordable). Yet i'm really excited about their next game. I can't say as much for any other game.
One of the greatest games ever made, how does Larian follow-up since this is the gold standard?
Divinity Original Sin is an awesome setting, a third game with the tech of BG3 would be completely insane
If the game gets any longer it will become a chore, For me personally its hit the perfect spot of long enough to really get into the game but not too long that you rush to the end just to finish it.
Mod support has been added to PC and sometime in October it will be added to consoles, Which adds a massive amount to replay value.
This is for the best. The game is perfect with tonnes of content, leave it perfect and don't milk it.
good games don´t need updates. Something a LOT of developers have forgotten
So happy the Voice Actors have gotten more famous thanks to BG3 and Larian. They did a GREAT job and contributed in making BG3 Legendary !!
as a D&D fan and player, I'm kinda sad about their decision, they just nailed it, BUT it's kinda understandable that after more than half a decade they want to do something else
god speed Larian
