    love how you didn’t spend the entire time making sure each feature was 100% exact in your line drawing, but instead chose to really focus on establishing value. I think artists can often forget that having the drawing, painting, etc. be exactly like the photo isn’t the important part, it’s making a product that is technically sound and evokes the photo and it’s subject. great video, really good explanations and use of both effective and efficient techniques.

    • @MKLGRMFineArt
      @MKLGRMFineArt 6 років тому +4

      Agreed :) and it feels most people seem to get crazy about colors. Especially in "skin tones". In my videos I try to "tech" people that the color is waaaay less important than the values as the color changes all the time and no one has "one skin tone". - As this changes even when you walk from one room to the next. And bottom line the artsy look I think is important...to give it a handmake look :)

      If you like it, check out graphite washes. You shave off some graphite from a block and you 'paint' and work it with a brush. Some artists actually use water, sponges, and graphite to help make textures for pieces by moving it all over a paper.

    Its artists like yourself [the ones who put their work out there ] that really help me break down the barrier that says you can't do this! And inspire me to try a different area of drawing to work on...manga is fun to draw but if i can get better at realistic drawing then that only adds to my arsenal of what i can offer...time to bust out a new sketch book and continue working on realistic drawing....thanks! !! Already liked and subscribed :-)

    I could say, well Phil you are never going to get that good.What i will say as a 70 year old person...nearly there anyway.How wonderful to have and see young people with such skills .I have drawn for years using the same sort of pencils and buds for softening but envious and respectfully glad that some young people are so talented . It was lovely to watch ,thank you Kristy.

    another dont that most artists do is when the go in and draw the eye they dont pay attention to which way it flick. some eye flick up on the outer side and some flick down. its a small mistake i see in alot of drawing (especially mine. lol)

    To the people saying they can't even do the "don'ts" part: PRACTISE!!!
    Do you think somebody wakes up one day with the sudden talent to draw? You can learn everything you've ever wanted but it takes a lot of effort and tons of time! Don't give up and you'll definitely see results but please please don't dismiss somebody's ability to draw as mere talent!!!! They worked very hard!!!!

      Ray lee - From watching some of Kirsty's tutorials, she mentioned using a kneaded eraser to finely erase some very thin areas if you need to do it. And then carefully brushing away some of the debris with an art brush. And not with our fingers. I may not be totally correct, but that's what I've seen so far. I'm learning under Kirsty's tutorials. She's amazing! And I thank her and others for sharing their amazing artistic talents.

    The shading for the chin came out looking really thick. Then again, it's impossible to notice everything. I walk past pieces two weeks later and notice five things I need to fix.

      Yes you are totally right! I suppose I focused too much on the features and rushed through doing the chin. The line is way to harsh. At least now I know for next time :D
