In this drawing tutorial I explain how to draw realistic lips and mouth. It is a do's and don'ts step by step art tutorial, you will see common mistakes beginners often make and my tips how to fix them to improve your drawings and make them look more realistic. I will explain all the basic steps so you can easily follow them and draw with me! I hope these tips will be helpful for you! Please take these tips only as suggestions when you want to learn to draw realistic lips and mouth. Do not take them as mandatory rules.

Note: I made this tutorial about 2 years ago on my Instagram account, I share it on my UA-cam channel for the first time. In the meantime, there have been few don'ts and do's videos on UA-cam, but I decided to share my own version of it. This is the way I actually draw lips myself. I try to use little different process, tools and techniques from other artists.

- Graphite pencils
- Blending stump for blending details
- Soft paintbrush for blending larger drawings
- Pencil eraser for precision erasing
- Kneaded eraser for erasing larger parts

Same. I can find very few tutorials that truly help. I find I draw better when I don’t watch tutorials but if I follow along, it just looks like a mess but this one was wonderful. All I need is a white pencil 😂 I think following along to tutorials are an art form in itself. I think it might be easier for people who can already master the fundamentals but for people just starting out like me? Hell nah 😂

Use mongol pencil. The no. 1 is for darker parts cuz, it's the darkest. You're clearly a fellow Filipino peep too so I know u have a mongol pencil

I’ve always identified myself as “someone who can’t do art” for most of my life but deep down, I knew I had visions that I wanted to make through my hands. I just didn’t know how. I’ve just started getting into drawings/sketchings and paintings and I may not be that good but it sure as hell feels nice to be creating something and just be immersed into this.

You don't exactly need the different types pencils, honestly. Changing the pressure of the pencil works just as good. I'm pretty sure you can do it just as good if you believe you can:)

You're a very good teacher. You didn't just demonstrate, you explained why as well as how you used different techniques and tools.
I particularly liked how you compared each lip to a 3D object to explain how to decide where the light source should fall, and where to create highlights and shadows.
It was also useful to see you demonstrate the wrong way to draw. It made sense when seeing my mistakes being made by an artist, in a way that just seeing the correct way to draw wouldn't have done.
Well, I wish I had a brush 😂 I love drawing but I'm still learning without the right materials 😂

In summary -
1. Use a range of soft pencils
2. Blend with a soft paintbrush
3. Take Your Time!!
i literally only used a 2B pencil, a white pencil and a cotton swab. I started drawing very recently and I don't have soft pencils or a soft paintbrush. But I think the lips are good!

I think the most important take-away here is this: good art takes PATIENCE. I’m so quick to rush in my work that I cheat myself out of amazing creations like these. Not only do I need your guiding tutorials, I need to grow my patience.
Exactly! People who never held a paint brush in their hands want to immediately draw hyperrealistic body parts like pros and get discouraged after it looks nothing like they envisioned it. Perfection takes time, developing skills takes time, and the 21st century we live in makes us believe we can achieve anything in 24 hours. It doesn't work that way.

U can use a number 2 pencil and apply pressure for darker lines and less pressure for lighter lines. I make realistic drawings with just a number 2 pencil, kneaded eraser, and a blending stump. Oh and a sharpener 😁 hope that helped

Amazing too quick and could do with you outlining the shading more as I couldn't work out if you was "curving" in a lip shape at the first stage of shading or not.
