I'm very patient rn coz I badly want to be good at it. Im planning to buy materials soon once I saved more money, coz I only use one pencil and an eraser. Hahah
To anyone who feels this way: Dont look at it this way. I understand the way you feel (this is how I felt about drawing in my late teens and early 20s) but trust me this kind of perspective is very self destructive. What I mean is that if we know we want to draw but we keep telling ourselves "I can't do it", "this looks terrible" , "I'm never gonna get good" etc then that will keep you stressed while drawing, and the more stressed or unrelaxed you are, the less focussed you'll be. The less focussed you are, the more mistakes you make, and this makes you even MORE stressed. Eventually this kind of mentality will probably result in you quitting. Thats what I did, I quit in my 20s thanks to a self defeatist mentality! Try to see it like this: "I dont suck at this, Im just a beginner, like everybody starts as. Even the masters make mistakes and failures but they didn't let it upset them, now they create amazing art!" Stay positive , never let mistakes/failures beat you down, understand that with daily or mostly daily practice, and time, you simply WILL get better!! I say this from personal experience having only been doing it for 4 month since I finally got back into drawing. You dont suck, you can do it!!!
I would even be okay with starting out at the level my 9yr old is. I think she is amazing and I'm at stick figure level. I couldn't do it in school either
Dude, this wasn't JUST about art or drawing. It is literally about anything you're passionate about. Thank you man. You gave a proper and truly inspiring "speech," if you wanna call it.

Only this time, the quarantine.. I just realized that i should've spent my time drawing everyday and not wasting it on bunch of useless things and if I've done it in the very first place, I think by now I could've drawn more amazing things and improve a lot. It made me realized what an incredible talent I have.
As someone who has been drawing since 8 years old. I never bothered to watch a video because I always thought videos like this had bad advice, but as the years went I became better, during quarantine, I never touched my sketch pad due to stress and depression. Now I'm planning to draw again, thanks for the advice. To those ppl who are new to drawing, this guy is a professional, listen to his advice.
@Sai Kiran: Hes right, it doesn't matter how much you like or dislike the way your latest drawing turned out, because like he said its still a drawing, and every drawing you create is still practice :) And we all know what they say about practice!
I don't know if this is just me but I can copy a drawing perfectly without tracing or anything. But when I try to draw my own thing, I just can't. I think my imagination is broken.
I have a few tips for beginning artists struggling with motivation. First, draw things you enjoy. If you have a favorite movie, show, comic book, or video game character, draw them in plain clothing with a relatively neutral look on their face to start. If you like things like flowers, look at different kinds of flowers and study the perspective. My second tip would be to watch tutorials when drawing something for the first time. There is nothing shameful about it and it will help you understand the object you are drawing. Sometime later, you can try drawing the object in a different pose or position on your own. If you have to watch more tutorials, that's okay! Lastly, if you are just beginning, don't worry about color or shading so much. In fact, I recommend not using color and using minimal shading until you are comfortable with your abilities. Good luck friends, have fun!
I just realize anyone can draw doesn’t matter if your good or not the key is practice, you just have to keep practicing and practicing and you will teach you’re goal, my sister is a nail tech she started off not that well she would make the nails pretty messy and she couldn’t do as much detail, but I seen that she was practicing everyday and I seen her progress and now she really good at doing nails she has many clients everyday all because she practiced everyday, we can do the same but with drawing!! “Practice is key”
I'll tell u what he said #1 draw/practice every day #2 Be patient #3 making mistakes (you'll learn from it) #4 immerse yourself #5 finding a style #6 use everything possible (use every drawing stuff u have if possible) Now if u excuse me I will go cry now Edit: Thanks for 1k likes luv u all! :D
I used to have a drawing teacher when I was bout 9-10. He'd make us draw sceneries everyday for months. I got sick and tired of it. I told him I don't wanna draw sceneries anymore, and he told me to draw a good scenery on my own if I want him to teach me something new. I spent an entire day drawing what I thought was the best drawing. But when I finally showed him, he tore it apart, criticising almost every aspect of it . I was very upset and swore to never come back to him, or even draw at all. Unfortunately I am still very much intolerant to Criticism. I wonder if same thing happened with you?
@@shashemption it happened to me also sth like that. I was trying hours and hours and when I showed it to my techer she made fun of me in front all of my classmates.
Thanks for all of this, i was in a verge of calling myself untalented, and just a trash drawing garbages. I had so many things in my mind and i really want to draw them, it looks like i need to give up on drawing but i still feel happy whenever i finish a work and I didn't wanna give up. This video gave me hope and this means a lot to me, thank you.
Me: *has been drawing for about 5 years* Friend: why is the head so big? Me: *types how to draw for beginners* edit: lmao, a lot of people are agreeing 😅
Lol it’s so true. Your happy with your art style, and then someone points something out about one drawing, then you start to hate it, even if it was only with that drawing!
I am a very VERY emotional person, and listening to advice to someone who knows how to sketch/draw with lots of encouraging words and it makes me feel motivated and confident on drawing better everyday. And it made me tear a bit 😇 tysm for the advice! Now im confident i can be a better artist! 🥰
When people usually see my drawings they say, "wow, this is so detailed, what materials do you use?" I say, "I use a mechanical pencil." then they will look a little shocked and say "well, you must have many right? Like ones with different lead and high quality erasers-" "No, I only have one pencil and a broken polymer eraser." I reply blankly. The truth about drawing is, it's not what you use. You can use a 100$ pencil and draw a crappy flower. It's how you use what's in your hand. Heck I've seen people make amazing art with crayola crayons.
IKR? I draw the same way dan does (realistic) and a people always ask how I do it and I say I watch helpful videos like this one! And yes I’ve seen people make amazing art with crappy dollar store markers and a ballpoint pen!
A lot of ppl trying are trying and trying so don’t give up.I was in fourth grade and a lot of ppl inspired me to draw so as a beginner I started with random papers and started to trace, this kept going on for almost 6 months and I tried tracing Disney characters. It wasn’t perfect but I was proud. So I started to learn to draw by hand, like I drew objects near me or my surroundings. Now I m doing actually great and I m really proud. “Don’t Give Up”
who else has this problem. Your in the middle of class. You have paper in front of you and that's what you need to turn in next. You decide to draw on it for fun. It turn out fantastic so you want to keep it but you have to turn it in by the end of the hour. u cri cuz it gone ;-;. You go home and try to draw almost the something and fail and then sit there and cri again ;-;
I been drawing my whole life learning these exact same fundamentals throughout the journey, Im not only impressed by the way you break it down but happy to hear it in way that makes sense to everything I've done 10/10 video
I was the same, but I try drawing with a fineliner now so I'll have to accept my mistakes when I make them. And it has actually helped me because now I pay more attention to not actually making these mistakes^^
Drawing depends on mood a lot. If you're in a good mood then what you draw looks great. But if you draw when you are in anger/frustration, the drawing looks screwed up. So, that's an other tip. Always draw when you are in a good mood. Have a nice day!
I don't know why but I really like to draw emotional anime pictures and when I'm happy or in a good mood my drawing looks so bad but When I'm sad or angry or in a bad mood my drawing looks So good it happened 7 times! I don't know if I'm the only one 😐
Thank you. I needed a refocus. I stopped drawing due to overwhelming personal crisis. I needed a simple concise straight forward refocus. This vid is it. No pressure, no speaker lauding themselves while lowering themselves to speak with the unwashed. You give real life actual technique advice. The way I did art in the beginning before life knocked hard at my door.
“Man I should draw more often.” *2 months later* Alright, I’m actually getting somewhere! *5 rough and unfinished sketches later* “Alright I should take a break.” *a week later* “I should draw more often.”
Which is sad because I use to draw really well and detail but there was alot of things going on and a couldn't then o tried getting back into it and I sucked, and I really want to draw comics
It is so amazing that this video came in my feed!! I was feeling just the way you say. As I admire so many gorgeous drawings and paintings it just makes me feel discouraged BUT I know better and hearing it here in this video describing my feelings so accurately is to me a sign that the universe is responding trying to help me, to be supportive. It is work, it takes practice and time to get really good. I so much enjoy painting, I am a novice. For most of my life I told myself that I could not draw nor paint. At 62 years old I started painting! It seems to have surfaced as a ripple effect of decluttering my home and to stop buying stuff that I do not really need. I am so much enjoying the therapeutic effect it has on me. At first it was very simple subjects, child like, still fun and cute. I started to watch tutorials and improve my skills a little. This activity is a tremendous teaching for me, about delaying instant gratification, applying myself, enjoying the process, be in the NOW. There is so much to learn, it is never ending really. I cannot allow my monkey brain to sabotage this newly found passion. Thank you 🙏
Ok try this! Dragons, mandala, cars and superheroes! Inspiration! Kim Jung Gi, Mark Crilley, Mikey Mega mega, David Finch! Your favorite artists! Mona Lisa, Popeye, The thundercats, and batman! Your favorite artworks! Slowly but persistent so you can go further each day! Do not stress over the creation of a"style", that will come with time and practice! Look for different styles that come to mind and adjust with your preference!
It doesn't matter if you just draw a doodle or a full piece, as long as you draw everyday it can really help! And it takes a thousand bad drawings to create one. Eventually the number will slowly decline and you'll be able to draw only a few bad drawings to create a perfect one.
I love drawing. Because it surpasses our imagination with a creation and drawing is the only thing that can show us something out of the existence for real!
I myself am not nessicarilly a great artist, but after doing this ever since 3rd grade, (now I'm a sophomore in highschool), I have become a quite decent artist. Ive received multiple art awards from my school, and if I can recommend anything from this video, I recommend drawing every day, even after your good at drawing. I myself put drawing down for about a year due to depression, and since I had done this my skills have heavily decreased, which is why you find this comment here now. Now I plan to go to college for a fine arts degree (after I join the military and hopefully survive, because its really the only way I can get to a college). I just wanna finish this comment with a thank you for reading, and good luck.
When you draw do you just draw it? Or do you go through the steps like drawing the skeleton and mapping? I used to just draw something I was looking at with out any skeleton, if you want to be great and draw faster and better learn how to draw the skeleton. It makes it so much easier I know it's a pain but I swear by it.
try challenging yourself more, getting out of your comfort zone. I only started to improve when I started pushing myself to learn things I was never comfortable with until I could nail them.
I have been drawing for years. I used to love drawing but after some criticism from others saying how my artwork wasn't good, or they could do some much better... After years of not drawing I want to get back into it because I love it. This video really helps btw thanks. :)
I looked at my drawings from 6th grade. I just flipped through it and said "I drew this shit!" It looked like a kindergartner took a pencil and just scribbled over the sketchbook.
This is A simple guide for middle artist, When your'e done your artwork, then turn it opposite. (I recommend use A mirror) Then you will see your mistake on drawing, but dont worry, try to improve the mistake.(this is mostly happen to who are drawing anime especially to draw the other eye). Just practice everyday, and you can draw your dream in your head. I believe. One day', you will find the way, the road to VICTORY 😀😀😀
And from the visual display I can also get another few tips: 1. Your pencils must always be sharp for ultra-fine lining. 2. Try to rub off your mistakes cleanly w/o leaving any unnecessary smudges. 3. No matter how many mistakes you've made, always apply the same amount of pressure as you're drawing with your pencil on areas that require that fixed, specific shade. Do not change it unless neccessary. (Knowing that most people get frustrated after rubbing off their mistakes too many times and finally making too many wrong strokes it's almost impossible to rub it off and the paper's already torn) +(My own personal tip)Play music that matches your mood/the theme of what you want to draw. It always helps. ;3
It does, music can show you what kind of scenario you want to make, and what emotion it should evoke. I usually watch a movie or listen to music when I get my ideas.
Dude , don't ever think that just because you dont get views, your content sucks, because you are one of the most talented artists on youtube and you make amazing content
I am a pretty good artist myself and when you said that talent can only get you so far I was like"Damn that is probably the best advise you can give for beginners"Talent isn't everything.
Remember every piece of artwork has an 'ugly' stage. Keep with it and see it to the end. You'll be amazed by the results. I'm 48 and just learned this. I had lots of unfinished work. Now I'm going back to finish them and I'm being surprised by the final products.
You motivated me so much... My dream is to become an artist but I m not that capable as an artist... I want to practice and improve but I literally don't know what to practice or how to practice... I m searching for videos which would tell me what n how to practice... Today after seeing this video I got a little idea about practice and improvement skills
Idk about y’all but my ADHD has cycles. I obsess about a certain thing for months before I get bored with it and a new obsession comes around. But there are a few core obsessions that always come back around. Drawing is one of those for me, and though I seem to progress overall pretty slowly, I still progress.
I cant no matter how hard I try I cant draw at all. I want to make detailed comics but I cant draw at all . I dont want to make cartoon but that's how my drawings come out they suck I cant focus at all. When I try to start I hate every single line I make I cant draw for shit and I have nothing to do when I'm older. I always judge every single drawing I make. I get made when ever I draw. Every single drawing of a human in make they stand tested and not normally i hate every drawing i make. The only "skill" I have is video games and that doesn't go hard. Every night I let awake judging everything I did, I hate it and I just want to draw better but this video doesn't help, I cant draw at all and I hate it.

Seriously.. I tried drawing hands this morning to practice them since I'm tired of having to hide the hands in my drawings some how, but I had such a hard time even though I only tried drawing them four times and I got fustrated and angry and decided to work on something else, a face, and it went much better and I saw that the way I was drawing the face was making me improve a lot so my frustration went away as fast as it came and I found a way to improve so what happened this morning ended up being beneficial so that's good :)
I’ve recently tried to draw because I wanted to draw my fave anime characters and drawing everyday really helps me improve, as well as looking at UA-cam tutorials and seeking inspiration from them. ☺️
Use COVID as a drawing advantage draw sun glasses and a mask or if you’re like me and draw combat use gas attacks as a advantage and draw protective masks / gas masks
Thank you so much for this video, it really means a lot to me. I was lost when coming back to drawing after taking a break and this really helped me get back on track

OK. I'm 38 and I've nearly always been terrible at drawing. You've inspired me to just do it every day no matter the result as it'll eventually turn into something more palatable with constant practice. It's bugged me for years and drawing is one of the things I wanna get good at.
Im turning 26 this year, been drawing in my elementary and highschool days, and stopped, , i really wanna get back to it as im now realizing its what i really want to. Im just hoping that i wont be too late to learn again.
I have drawn and painted every day more or less non stop since childhood, then I left my home city and haven't done anything - not even a doodle - in seven years. Videos like yours are helping me back to art, so thank you for that, but oh dear I seem to have a style of drawing which I don't remember developing and I don't like it. Much of what I do from now on will be about turning myself upside down and inside out to break the habits I didn't know I had and coming at looking and seeing and interpreting afresh. Thank you for your work.

@@enixanne8146 So you're saying that anyone who has practiced drawing and still can't do it has not practiced "right"? That's an interesting new spin on the no true Scotsman!
@@DelayRGC not really, just the citing the absolute difference between "practice" and "deliberate practice". There's real practice, and there's plain wasting time :D
i think the biggest lie that i have told myself, that kept me from improving, was the idea that every drawing i make has to be amazing. i kept comparing myself to great artists and just didn't see where i went wrong. until i just told myself to at least sketch daily and enjoy the ways of my creativity is taking form, and if i really like the sketch i could always work on it as an improved drawing. Sketching, is important, and sketches are not the final stages of your drawings.
These tips can be applied to literally anything you do in life. Consistency, patience, passion and being completely open to learning at any stage or age in life is so vital to success.
Just wait. Also when he said talent can only get you so far, trust me I know. Through my experience my talent naturally only got me a little ways, I've slowly been learning everything I can about art. Like famous pieces, the color scale, human anatomy, and shading. And that's only a base of what you need to know. There's so many things you must learn, and as you learn them you'll get better.
@@hihehe1517 I'm saying so you know that even the talented have to practice. Like talent can only go so far, and practice can get you the rest of the way.
I'm just a freshman, and I started drawing in the age of 6, but since I made it to the honor students, I barely got time to draw. I need a lot of practice because I want to draw a full body, atleast an anime before I reach the teen age, because I love to draw and I want to be a designer. During my free times in weekends, I always search for drawing tutorials, I try it. But I always think that I can't do it. I am really afraid of doing mistakes. But now I watched this, I now have great tips to bear in mind. You are awesome man. You really have a great talent
Me in every other lesson: *draws on whatever i can find and makes such a good artpiece* Me in art class: *draws the most shit and have my art teacher thinking im horrible at drawing*
It's probably because if you're drawing free-time. you're relaxed. while in art class it's a task, and you need to make a perfect drawing. you're stressed and so, your drawing turns out to be shit
My friend always saw me as a great artist he really likes how I draw the thing is I stopped drawing for a couple of weeks now and the same friend kept scetching the same drawing every day and searching about tutorials and drawing basics he believed in himself honestly I never thought he would come far but one day he showed me his drawing it was amazing the shading looked stunning the overall meaning of this story just believe in yourself 😊

Ever feel like: “I wish I had his talent.” And also: “I wish I’m good at something else.” Thank you so much guys for the replies! Now I’m planning on drawing everyday for a year. Wish me luck!
You're looking at things the wrong way. Instead of envying or coveting the skills of experienced artists and belittling yourself in the process, treat it like this: "this artist is amazing, if I keep practicing (in other words, drawing, daily) I'll be at that level one day". You have to be willing to put in time if you want to get results, thats what I learned.
It's so depressing to think in that way, everybody can draw on that level once day, just focus on how you drew one month ago, one year ago and how good you are right now compering to those days. I recommend you to put down the date when you create your drawing that way you will know exactly how long it takes to see your progress, just keep practice
Do you ever spend all night drawing a drawing it looks good and you go to sleep. The next day, it looks so weird
Haha yup......

Even the masters make mistakes and failures but they didn't let it upset them, now they create amazing art!"
Stay positive , never let mistakes/failures beat you down, understand that with daily or mostly daily practice, and time, you simply WILL get better!! I say this from personal experience having only been doing it for 4 month since I finally got back into drawing. You dont suck, you can do it!!!

You're not the only one.
This!!

I'm here because I used to love drawing but my art teacher kinda killed my love for it. I'm here tho
If you don't mind my asking, what did this teacher do to kill your love for drawing?
I used to have a drawing teacher when I was bout 9-10. He'd make us draw sceneries everyday for months. I got sick and tired of it. I told him I don't wanna draw sceneries anymore, and he told me to draw a good scenery on my own if I want him to teach me something new. I spent an entire day drawing what I thought was the best drawing. But when I finally showed him, he tore it apart, criticising almost every aspect of it . I was very upset and swore to never come back to him, or even draw at all.
Unfortunately I am still very much intolerant to Criticism. I wonder if same thing happened with you?

When people usually see my drawings they say, "wow, this is so detailed, what materials do you use?" I say, "I use a mechanical pencil." then they will look a little shocked and say "well, you must have many right? Like ones with different lead and high quality erasers-"
"No, I only have one pencil and a broken polymer eraser." I reply blankly.
The truth about drawing is, it's not what you use. You can use a 100$ pencil and draw a crappy flower. It's how you use what's in your hand. Heck I've seen people make amazing art with crayola crayons.

When your'e done your artwork, then turn it opposite. (I recommend use A mirror)

@@eileenazora6836 I think he's asking like... why does it work, like, why does reflecting the eye for example, help you draw the second eye.
TeaMMatE11 it is like to make the another eye equal
And from the visual display I can also get another few tips:
(Knowing that most people get frustrated after rubbing off their mistakes too many times and finally making too many wrong strokes it's almost impossible to rub it off and the paper's already torn)
+(My own personal tip)Play music that matches your mood/the theme of what you want to draw. It always helps. ;3

So, 3 months ago... How are you doing?

I keep reading commentw lol
I have drawn and painted every day more or less non stop since childhood, then I left my home city and haven't done anything - not even a doodle - in seven years. Videos like yours are helping me back to art, so thank you for that, but oh dear I seem to have a style of drawing which I don't remember developing and I don't like it. Much of what I do from now on will be about turning myself upside down and inside out to break the habits I didn't know I had and coming at looking and seeing and interpreting afresh. Thank you for your work.

You're right
...and PRACTICE RIGHT.

My weakness:Shapes
@@prestons6876 even though that advice isnt for me.. I'll still thank you for sharing it! 👍
@@hihehe1517 I'm saying so you know that even the talented have to practice. Like talent can only go so far, and practice can get you the rest of the way.
Everyone has a weakness, and yours is clearly to communicate like a sane civil being.
Kazumi Scarlet exactly it is great video! And it helps to make mistakes because every new drawing is better 😊👌

Don't worry- it takes a hundred bad drawings to create one. You can only get better the more you practise!

I'm trying to get better at sketching and everything you said helped me understand how to sketch better and drawing in general.
Wow, what a powerful message. I totally agree.

He is a pro at it.
Yea he coulda been doing this for 4 years
Me in every other lesson: *draws on whatever i can find and makes such a good artpiece*
Me in art class: *draws the most shit and have my art teacher thinking im horrible at drawing*
It's probably because if you're drawing free-time. you're relaxed. while in art class it's a task, and you need to make a perfect drawing. you're stressed and so, your drawing turns out to be shit
Same! I have the same problem
Well atleast you have a good profile pic

My friend always saw me as a great artist he really likes how I draw the thing is I stopped drawing for a couple of weeks now and the same friend kept scetching the same drawing every day and searching about tutorials and drawing basics he believed in himself honestly I never thought he would come far but one day he showed me his drawing it was amazing the shading looked stunning the overall meaning of this story just believe in yourself 😊
Hello there 👋, I think you must be a very talented drawer.
So i wanted to ask you to join our discord server in which people like you draw stuff helping each other grow their youtube channels and make animations faster.
If you don't want to miss out your potentials as a drawer, please let me know!

AcidSpittingLlama Thanks 👍 :)
I’m kind of good and super creative
LookBothWays - chan I can build things and come up with building ideas and I think my drawing skills have improved a bit
I heard from professional artists like SuperRaeDizzle or Vexx (it's night so i can't remember) to never draw from the mind cause it wont look like it, and you'll not enjoy it as much and be really negative about it cause you think it looks bad.

I have been drawing every day for about a month now and started to feel a bit fed up just "copying" but i feel better now..it takes as long as it takes..ive watched a fair few of these "how to get better" videos and honestly this was the best... new subscriber. thanks a lot for this.
lauraglasgow etc thanks Laura, I try to focus a lot of the information I give from my own experience and what I know. Sometimes it might not appeal to some people because everyone’s different. I try to make the advice and videos I make as genuine as possible, thanks for subscribing - hopefully I can provide useful or entertaining content for you in the future :D
if i feel in a funk again im gonna re watch and will be definitely looking at more of your stuff.. thanks again
You should definitely try studying art along side copying it
lauraglasgow etc i think its awesome content but it doesnt grab as much attention because of its slow pace (im not hating just suggesting a reason)
When I draw I think, ay, that's pretty good. Then my friend sends me his drawing.... ._.

Ever feel like:
“I wish I had his talent.”
And also:
“I wish I’m good at something else.”
Thank you so much guys for the replies! Now I’m planning on drawing everyday for a year. Wish me luck!
no
You're looking at things the wrong way.
Nah, some are different. Like they have no other things in mind but to just draw cuz its the only thing that fits them( like me).
So considering a one pencil man training
