at first i was asking myself why is he destroying a perfectly good sketch and turning it into a grey blob...but then i saw the blob turned into a new sketch, and kept doing that. truly amazing. basically an animation using one canvas
this is why I love UA-cam! Where else would I have been able to see an interesting short work like this? Have you ever checked out what Bob Ostertag and Pierre Hebert do? You will love it. tim
awesome video. But to be honest, what I like most is the grainy quality of Super-8, it gives the whole "movie" some kind of... well, I don't know, but I like it.
I painted this on canvas. It held up fine. The canvas at the end wasn't as thick with paint as you might think. A lot of the strokes I used were relatively quick (time is of the essence).
This is really fantastic! I think the description stated that you haven't gotten around to a more elaborate version. I think you should pursue it though! The animatic looks great on its own!
I enjoyed that but thought the music a little over-powering. I think I would have liked something a little more melodic so that the sketch could speak for itself. I'm really not one to talk though!
Thank you very much for standing up for me, RedcoatMic24. Loveless25, you obviously pulled things from my comment that wasn't meant to be pulled out. Raina0624, I saw what was going on perfectly fine. I just believe there was no rhyme or reason. Maybe the artist would have responded to me and said "The point was simply for a frame by frame test and then I thought of constantly changing it." Etc. It had nothing to do with my ability to decipher "what it meant."
I'm not unimaginative. I have made artwork that is much better than this, I know anatomy of many things because I'm a scientist, I know how to animate because I've been using flash for 6 years and I have been drawing since I could pick up a pencil. I don't think repainting over a picture a million times is amazing, is all.
Loveless - I did not mean to trash it. As redcoat said, I stated it even looked nice. I just did not get the point, the story, etc. And I got flamed for that.
I really shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone. I voiced my opinion, and got flamed for it, even though there are other people who say it sucked and etcetra.
Nice. The ending was a bit bad... I mean showing it again is just a bit stupid. Rather make a real ending or just cut it right before it returns to the beginning. But very cool. And I loved the animations and the confusing sequences in between the artistic animated art... meaning the filmographical art in it. Great job, man =)
how exactly do you make a movie like this? because i want to stop animation kinda thing.. but i dont know how to put it together.. do you just take a bunch of pictures and then put them together er what? what program do you use?
woah,, dats nuts,,,~ it's amazing,, haha yea me too,, if i could frame dat i would put it on my wall too~ gd JOB,, i liked the layering of different pictures,, the transition~ i'm no artist sooo w/e =) hahah! but it's great!
i was looking for this, why the hell not keep on goin with this? if i could figure out how to do it with my cam i would but it would probably suck alot compared to this dynamism...thumbs up.
me like, I kinda don't get it though, is that just pictures taken during the painting proces? I guess huh..frame by frame...sometimes it looks like the paint is IN MOTION but prolly just my eyes...
Again. Trippy. as. Hell. But again, one of the cooler things i've seen on You Tube. I'm sure an awful lot of effort went into making this, and I'm glad you shared it with me. :D Thanks!
My god, coming back here since after maybe 2008! Just found an old email I sent in 2008 where I sent this to someone... amazing.. It was probbaly the video that inspired me the most back then. Proper UA-cam before it became infliencer haven!
Woh! Chat about manipulating one piece!! Took that one to the extreme! Bet you never planned the outcome too! But as an artist thats how deep our imagination work!!! "Keep it up".
This was creative, talented, abstract, and awesome! Considering the artist is never seen is a task in the edit itself. On top of that, it was shot in 1993. Was it edited then too? This is future art.. can't you just see art on your wall that not only changes continuously, but is created in front of your eyes. Brilliant!
ahahhahaha i love the responses to this. you guys are getting so worked up about this its fucking halarious. yes, rachie, i am trying to sound cool because we all know guys who can identify imovie sound effects get all the fucking chicks. i was just saying he used imovie sound effects alot.
Zowie! Real talent here, as opposed to someone sitting in front of a video camera mouthing the words to someone else's song! Tahnks for taking it to a higher level!
Wow, dude, that was really cool! The music was scary, in an awesome way! I feel bad for you though, sorry that you have all these stupid spammers in your comments. This is great! Finally something useful is featured on the main page!
I used acrylic paint. The "time lapse" was accomplished by using a Super-8 movie camera that allows you to shot one frame at a time. I shot one frame for every few paint strokes. Super-8 film runs at 18 frames per second.
wow yeah as everyone is saying the music did go really well with the images what was the music? how long did that take you to do? the painting side of it that is i need answers! lol keep it up man good stuff
Out of the Renaissance came some of the best art known to man, but after that is when artists finally got to break free of the old schooling and explore their dark sides with no restrictions on style or form. Get a clue.
Fok the critics, they're probably not even artists. I've been thinking about doing something like this lately but the stop motion on my camera doesn't work anymore. Did you storyboard this out or just improvise????
Brilliant! I love the concept, the evolution of the painting is fascinating to watch. My only wish is that it were longer! Kudos! Congratulations on being featured, you are one of few who deserve it. *}Peace{* LZ
This is awesome. It gritty, dark and I love it. Anyone who sh*ts on it has no taste. I'm not sure why you started repeating it at the end though, not that I minded, means I got to start watching it again.
pretty awesome. has a very 1990's feel to it. tactile mediums and stuff. before we got all distracted with living our lives on the internet and f'ing facebook...
That was cool. It kinda reminded me of a painting I helped do at an art party. Everyone kept adding their own thing, and it changed about a billion times!
The music went really well with the video. It was very cool. Especially the very beginning when the objects were moving. Very cool.
Really stunning. My brother and I stole our dad's super8 and made many of these stop action films back around 1968
That was truly the most artistic thing I've ever seen.
This reminds me of some of the animated stuff they showed onPBS in the mid-70s. Very, very cool!!
As someone who did the dabble in graff, I gotta say that was SWEET!
Now see, THIS is the kind of stuff worthy of UA-cam, things that are actually interesting to see, and not just some lame kid staring into a camera.
!!!absolutly mind-opening!!!
Wow, great creativity and imagination. I loved it.
at first i was asking myself why is he destroying a perfectly good sketch and turning it into a grey blob...but then i saw the blob turned into a new sketch, and kept doing that. truly amazing. basically an animation using one canvas
I really liked this video, inspires me to paint. very well done. keep up the good work
this is why I love UA-cam! Where else would I have been able to see an interesting short work like this? Have you ever checked out what Bob Ostertag and Pierre Hebert do? You will love it.

i enjoyed this greatly. i love the unique drawing style and everything. it's awesome. ^^
Amazing transformative piece! The evolving images reminded me of Bruce Bickford, who used to do claymation for Frank Zappa. (Yeah, I'm old.)
Dude. Don't stop. I mean...if you were thinkin' of stoppin' or somethin'...don't. Cool work!
that is an incredible job you did right there. I'd love to see you get around to a longer animated job
It´s like a endless nightmare...Congratulations
great work men

Killer video - I like creativity like this.
one of my favourite things on youtube.
awesome video. But to be honest, what I like most is the grainy quality of Super-8, it gives the whole "movie" some kind of... well, I don't know, but I like it.

I enjoyed that but thought the music a little over-powering. I think I would have liked something a little more melodic so that the sketch could speak for itself. I'm really not one to talk though!

Thank you very much for standing up for me, RedcoatMic24.

it'd be better with creepier music... it just has that vibe, ya know?

What was the point? It looked nice and all don't get me wrong, but there was no rhyme or reason to anything.
The song was made in Garageband, I think. I could be wrong, but it's definitely got samples in it from GBand.

ehh... crappy... how is that amazing? its not even eye candy what so ever. Video editing = nice... but the art itself kinda crappy to be honest
Fuck man... that was one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. I posted it on myspace. Hope you don't mind.... It seserves to be seen!
Awesome, love it. Reminds me of a Picasso movie I saw once where he was doing a similar thing, although i think I may like yours better!
pretty awesome. has a very 1990's feel to it. tactile mediums and stuff. before we got all distracted with living our lives on the internet and f'ing facebook...

if u check early comments, he says put own music together using garage band, would like 2 know myself if he sampled other music
