So good to find a painter who knows how to paint pine trees!!! So many claim to be painting pine trees when they are painting spruce and fir. Artists need to learn the difference. These are beautifully done with real needles. Thank you so much!
That landscape seems to be truly beautiful! And the branches near the observer! Uuu they make you feel the distance of the background! You sir are a Master!
I just found you Joe. After two decades of doing murals on and off there are still things I've yet to figure out. Lol. You have TRUELY just BLOWN MY MIND. I am beyond thankful to have finally found this channel!!!!! I have the skills just lack technic and have been 100% self taught. Doing a landscape in a Sherwin Williams locally and have been fretting over the pondi's and here you are maken it so much easier. Man! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Joe, It's always these small, observed details an artist has to correctly capture, right? You not only succeed at doing this, but you are such a kindhearted soul for sharing HOW to recreate them. Thank you sir, and God bless you for helping us along.
You do excellent work, but difficult work. I have been trying to follow your method for painting waves. It's not easy. You have a lot of patience, Thanks for your help.
It pleases me greatly to see that you, unlike other painters, truly know what a pine tree is and how it should be reproduced on canvas. Far too many artists paint a pine tree in a conical shape with limbs angling down.
Thank you for this. I recently had to do a painting and wanted a pine tree in it and had no clue how to approach it. I used your instructions and my own intuition and managed to pull it off. Not sure I would have been as successful without the spun paint brush trick. Thanks again.
This is only my second video I’ve watched. You are an amazing teacher! I’ve learned so much watching you paint and teach. Awesome! Can’t get enough . These videos will really help me in my paintings . Thank you! 👩🏻🎨🎨
Absolutely perfect. I actually thought that you were outside when I first saw your thumbnail of your video. Super great job and thank you so much for teaching and sharing. I had wondered how to do this kind of pine tree. Can't thank you enough.
Thanks again Mural Joe! This technique helped a lot. I have a portrait commission and am adding a soft window scene with pine branches. Thanks for sharing. Loving Flagstaff! Kelley Jean
My dear Joe it is very clear that you are a good observer of nature. This is one of the best ideal to become an artist, when one study how nature complies its growth. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I've never painted before and I can't even draw a decent looking stick figure! I accidently happened on your video and decided to watch it. I am amazed at how simple you made this look and your instructions are easy to follow. I love picture of trees and nature and I've been unsuccessful in finding any that could draw what I want. My hobby is genealogy and I've been wanting to have a village that consists of houses and barns that look like the places my ancestors lived in and the biggest focal point being a shade tree that grows beside the church that my mother and grandparents went to. On the tree I want to write their names and possibly birth and death dates. I just need to decide if I want maple or oak trees and there will be pine trees in the background. I will be watching more of your videos and have hit the like and subscribe button! Thank you for sharing your knowledge it is most appreciated!
Oh my god, thank you! I don't know if they're in the same tree group but here in Australia we have she oaks or casuarinas that have pine needles and I've been struggling with how to achieve the transparent effect of groups of the thin needles with a fan brush (I'm an oil painter) and you've solved the problem.
As usual an excellent tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to create and share your skills. You could always fall back on teaching if you ever needed to as you are a natural at it.
that was one of the most useful painting videos ive ever seen joe! i wish id seen this a couple of weeks ago......but now ill have to do another painting with pine needles to practice your technique! thank you for the tips and vids!
Yes, Definitely. Good question. After you clean the brush, the bristles will relax and go back to normal. Bristles get softer the longer they stay wet so to go back to normal, the brush just needs to be dried out all the way and perhaps wrapped with paper or the original cover if you really want it nice and straight.
So good. I am going to practice and hope to get something painted that looks half a good. I could never paint like you. Love it and thanks for sharing.
YOU ARE A PAINTING GOD!!! This is the first videos of yours I've watched but I already subscribed! This is just beautiful!!! You make it look so easy! I can tell I'll be watching more of your videos!! Great job!
I meant to say, the bristles stay in the position they dry in. So you can put it right back by wrapping it as it dries. That first reply of mine didn't seem clear.
I just watched 3 of your videos. You have very good color coordination and use. Your work shows great depth. I think you really have a special talent. Don't give it up (if you can help it). I think that you could be famous artist, in real time. I mean that, seriously. You color combinations are different -- in a good way -- from anything else I have seen. Don't forget to ask for the buck! :) For instance, on your website, I think that you should update it and you are really under value-ing your work. You really are that good.
Your very skilled I watch your waves video very helpful.i am an abstract painter I do lots of tester and random figures and shapes and chaos iv got my second exhibition coming up and the exhibitor wanted me to do a painting with just blue. for the background I start different blues and it started looking like abstract wave like Monet and it was looking good so l changed the style I usually do and went for a Monet like which is something l never do but I needed it to look a little more realistic. half realist and half abstract was what I was looking for so thank you for the waves
since I only paint as a private hobby, it still doesn't mean I like to suck at what I do...The reason I am watching this video is I painted a really beautiful 'Asian' sun on a gold back ground with a pine branch.....In Chinese tradition, the pine tree represents a 'Gentleman'....the entire painting worked out really great......until I got to the needles.......the best word I can use about what happened starts with a 'F' and ends with an 'up'😋....everything I did wrong is entirely what Joe said what not to do....lets hope a second time is a charm! Ta for the tips.....
Damn Joe , You weren't kidding!! that is a big pine tree.. looks like a Florida long needle pine.. pom pom pine.. lol. Beautiful job though!! It actually looks better than the real ones.. 🌻👍👍

Joe, you are a genius, may the gods of painting be with you!
Joe, It's always these small, observed details an artist has to correctly capture, right? You not only succeed at doing this, but you are such a kindhearted soul for sharing HOW to recreate them. Thank you sir, and God bless you for helping us along.
This has gotta be the most helpful tutorial I’ve seen for closeup pine tree leaves, thanks fam 🙏
Beautiful work, and no crappy music in the background, its' a joy to watch you paint.
Thank you so much. So helpful!
You do excellent work, but difficult work. I have been trying to follow your method for painting waves. It's not easy.
You have a lot of patience, Thanks for your help.
Thank you. I will definitely use this method. Your work is beautiful!
a tip : you can watch movies on instaflixxer. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Wesson Martin definitely, have been using instaflixxer for since december myself =)
It pleases me greatly to see that you, unlike other painters, truly know what a pine tree is and how it should be reproduced on canvas. Far too many artists paint a pine tree in a conical shape with limbs angling down.
A big Canadian high five to you Joe.
I'm learning so much here. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this! I've referred back to this video over and over the last several years. Wonderful work.

Very good lesson. Wanted to learn how to paint pine needles, and ended up learning more. Good job!
Very helpful thanks for being honest of telling us to wait and let the paint dry before topping another coat of paint...
Joe you are the most amazing artist and a fantastic teacher.
Thank you!!!

Thanks again Mural Joe! This technique helped a lot. I have a portrait commission and am adding a soft window scene with pine branches. Thanks for sharing. Loving Flagstaff! Kelley Jean

Brilliant Mural Joe! Thanks : )
