Omg! 7 years ago? Those little kiddos in the background are probably nearly grown now. Awe. This was unexpectedly wholesome. I love the faint little voices in the background playing while he paints.

By the way, if you are ever out of ideas for what to paint, I would love to see a very old redwood tree with a gnarled trunk and lots of interesting shadows and colors in the wood. So hard to see examples of those! But whatever you do, I'll be grateful to see it. Fantastic work, muraljoe!

Very helpful tips with the reflected light, underside being the darkest part, and varying the width of the vertical patterns to create an illusion of roundness. Thank you!

That's a good question. I do use watercolor for some of my renderings. I'm sure you can use the same colors but it might be better to start with the light and end with the dark because of the transparency of watercolor. I don't think the light over the dark would cover as easily.

No problem at all. to answer your question, I am using pure red, pure yellow, black and white latex wall paint. any red, yellow, black and white you can find will work. it's putting them in order that really makes the difference. Thank you for watching.

Amy way, I’m wondering if I sent you a photo could you give me a critique. I’m just not getting this trunk to look “right”. Thanks.

Try mixing many colors to from a “black”that isn’t really a real black,it will be less harsh but if you want a true black use it!

I really enjoy your channel, and I've seen almost all of your videos. I'm an artist as well, and I have been painting seriously for the past 8 years. I paint homes for a living as well because it is therapeutic to me, but I've never done paintings on a large scale. what advice would you have for someone looking to paint on a surface as large as a wall? I'm nervous about getting my proportions wrong. what should I practice? and what should I practice on? thank you, and keep up the great work! your an amazing artist!

Forget Hillary and Bernie - It's all YOU!
I've painted murals in acrylic on walls and vehicles, .
and I've painted forest scenes in watercolor, but I'm starting the first paint layers on a friend's kitchen wall, I realized I'd never painted big trees in acrylic. I think other things wouldn't have presented any major problem, but trees-! Infinite color combinations, a multitude of textures, and if you cruelly paint it faithfully in detail with all your heart in the brushstrokes, they'll kick you out after the first tree because it took 9 years. And if you want to do it more quickly, you can't do an exact renewing because it doesn't look real - too many variations to easily make it look unified. If painting a car is like painting a little town, painting a person is more like a state (more complications and color variations), then a TREE isn't a country or even a continent, it's a *universe*.And great fun w/ all possible ways to express brown, but not at all coherent. So THANKS! 👍👏🏽

Why don't you take the time have things move out of your way before hand. It like you are working hard against yourself? How do you deal with using your wall as paint palette? Because I'm thinking that would be a build up of paint and it would be hard to cover over? Did you take college classes to be artist? Thanks for getting my mind to think about how to.
