Brilliant rock composition. The instrumental break's chord progression is avant-garde and intensely dramatic. Both Robin and Rick played it simultaneously. The lyrics are mysterious. The bridge is moody and magnificent. If this song is not in popular esteem, it's because it is too good!
There is something that the young people of today need to understand about Cheap Trick In concert in 1977. This particular song look out is a great example of just how loud a show was at that time. They were opening for kiss at this time. Kiss was boasting a 50,000 to 60,000 watt PA system on tour around that time. At 100 yards the decibel rating was 120. So loud that the signal was distorting in your eardrums which meant it was doing eardrum damage. You could feel songs like Lookout in your intestines and your chest cavity. This might not sound like a lot of fun to most of you. But to a child of the 1970s it was a dream come true to see these guys live. Your ears were ringing till the next day. But you bragged about that. By the 1980s each venue and the city it was located in began to legislate law against decibel levels. No show can be more than 100 decibels for any amount of time recorded at just a couple hundred feet. The difference between 100 DB and 120 DB is quite a bit. What's the difference between a loud conversation and a 747 on takeoff. Another thing that I miss about the 1970s is Festival seating. This means that first come first serve is up front. If you're late you're sitting in the nosebleed section. They're also wasn't as much security back then. Quite often people would be smuggling in bottles of alcohol and fireworks. It got pretty crazy sometimes. But by the end of the show you knew that you had been add a real Rock concert and you would never forget that show. When you checked in at the door and they tore your ticket stub in half, and then you entered the hall, you were now part of the show and Anything Could Happen. It was one of the most exciting things that you could ever feel. ROCK'N'ROLL!

Robin never got the credit he deserved for being a really great rock singer. Freddy Mercury was in a class by himself. Maybe Robert Plant was second. But after those two, I can't think of anyone who was a better rock singer than Robin Zander.
I remember this song!! They kick ass!! If I could've seen them live then I would've, wasn't allowed to. Maybe I'll get them to sign my sleeve when I see them next mth. We'll see. 😉

Love Robin, so hot and his voice is great! I don't think I've ever heard him screw up as a singer. I've seen them in concert a couple times, always good!
One of the best rock bands at the time & here they are in their prime & at the height of their high energy rockin power..and of course, this concert became a huge selling live album..

Each one of them, great musicians, fantastic PERFORMERS!
Words can’t express how good this is. And when Robin Zander winks I am dead ☠️ 💜
Ha!
A band that really earned everything they got.
Had the opportunity to see cheap trick and KISS together one night at the LA Forum 1980
Definitely a LIVE band. So much energy and excitement here. Japanese girls screaming and squealing NON STOP. Tough life....
Who could give this a thumbs down? What kind of idiot? This is a masterpiece.
Forgot how great this song was. Thanks for the post.
i love the way you are Robin....We Love Cheap Trick...
The pride of Rockford, IL
Please take me back! 1979! The 70's :( ---
Creepy world in this age...
One of my top 3 favorite Cheap Trick songs. It's a long list too.
Mine too!
Mine as well! SUCH a GREAT SONG!
Not bad but not catchy
Haven't heard this song... maybe since it was new. She's a beauty of a song. So glad I got to hear it again.
Kicking all kinds of ass with raw abandon.
Bun. E. Carlos. Kicking it!

How this band never became bigger than the Beatles and Jesus is one of the great mysteries of rock music
(1) - Timing (peaked before MTV). (2) They were not a classic hair band with Nielsen and Carlos
these are different mixes from the albums/8tracks I bought in the late 70's. You don't forget this....
Different versions. Only one night was filmed and none of the tracks that made the album were from this night.
If I had a time machine, I would go to this concert.
for the win
I'd go to a show in 1992, where they (maybe the only time) performed In This Country.
Same here. This, Muse at the Zenith in 2001 and Wembley 2007
I would do it once a week.
@R Diaz I'd pick up a Japanese hottie too as long as she's legal 😁
Lookout !!!! 👍👍👍👍☠️☠️☠️☠️⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

Dennis DeYoung
Paul Rodgers
Mickey Thomas. As good as he was 40 years ago, simply incredible how he sings.
Steve Marriott from The Small Faces/Humble Pie is one of the best.
this song is so good and robin is so hot. it’s a literal masterpiece
Probably my favorite on this album.
Lookout!! Cheap Trick coming to a city near you! 2018!!
Great song! So underrated...
Robin is awesome, impossible, If I was born before I’d find this man where he was hahaha
How do they get that incredible Bass and Rhythm riff at 1:07 and 2:38
Youthful Cheap Trick n FUN
なかなかスビーディーで爽やかなナンバーだ。
RIP Mr Bun E Carlos

Kellie Levans Cheap Trick and Van Halen are the two best American rock bands
Pound for pound, best band of the late 70s with five great studio albums and Budokan. They peaked before MTV (ah, what could have been)
Robin looks just like Nirvana frontman RIP. Kurt
just not sure they would be so huge without Rick Nielsen.
Linda Spontak That is rather obvious, seeing he writes the material.
lol and he puts on pretty good show too!!
Maybe he's just possessed by The Dream Police...
Hmmm I'll go with that interpretation.
If not, it's some other spirit I don't want to know about...
Good Day :)
They were super strong at every position. Zander's vocals and guitar play; Peterson very under-rated; and Mr Bun E Carlos (nuf said)
One of my favorite tunes ever. Is there keyboard on this tune? I seem to hear it around 2:12 after the instrumental bridge.
I don't think so. Not 100% sure, but I only hear Bun's cymbals (assuming that's what you're referring to), before the band all kick back in.
#CheapTrick #Budokan
William Tolles best song on Budokan
+Diego Casco How do you pick a best of that album?
#bandfoundthemselves
any relation to Ken?!?!?!
Are you related to Ken Adamany?

Different version from the record...
Before Rick discovered cocaine?
He had discovered it by the time they played Don Kirschner's show.
Watch Rick on that. It's before Budokan.
stereo? in a tin can?
Haven't heard this song... maybe since it was new. She's a beauty of a song. So glad I got to hear it again.
massively underrated song from one of the all time greatest bands.
100%!
Way up there!
Absolutely superb drumming by Bun E. Carlos, play it again and listen to the man.
This is an underated awesome song, The bridge or break is intense and robin's filler's are fun.
The bridge has some of the weirdest lyrics ever! So good! Pirate talk perhaps?
Cheap Trick live are mesmerising. And what a frontman, pretty face with the pretty voice is an understatement
Bun,you're the best.
Love Robin, so hot and his voice is great! I don't think I've ever heard him screw up as a singer. I've seen them in concert a couple times, always good!
Awesome. This is what can happen when bands spend years touring and writing before they "make it" as "overnight" successes. They're ready.
One of the best rock bands at the time & here

Great song, a hidden gem.
Greatest Band t singer ever!
One of their best tunes.
Cheap Trick is the greatest rock and roll band since The Beatles, maybe even greater, since the Beatles were more pop.
Best song ever from the Tricksters!
Neilsen on top of his game. I saw them in Houston back in the 80's. I was floored.
Nielsen at the top of his game,
indeed!!
To reply to Klaatu---They've been peaking for 40 years! Can't wait to see them in Napa next month! (Nov 2015)
That wink and head shake fucking rules me.
Love the way Robin sings 'world' at 2:20. Fantastic song
it’s so perfect the way he does it
great, great band.
Like it a lot
how the hell long have i gone without even checkin these guys out. i suck.
love cheap trick
It's hard to believe this track never appeared on one of their studio records.
It's on a four song EP of unreleased songs called "Found All The Parts"
Rick is a human cartoon. 😂
So good!

Not before eighties
Todd Howarth played keyboards for them also.
