Jaguar: Dead Brand Walking - The Carmudgeon Show with Cammisa and Derek from ISSIMI Ep. 77

- On this episode of The Carmudgeon Show, Jason and Derek discuss the future of Jaguar-the iconic automotive brand struggling to survive in today's market. What brand decisions have made a negative impact on Jaguar Land Rover in recent years, and what problems must be solved as the brand moves into 2023 (and prepares for an electric future?)
All this and more, brought to you by the Hagerty Podcast Network.
Speaking of dead-brand-walking, you guys should do an episode on Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi will never die they’re actually more profitable than ever. They just arent cars they’re tools
Mitsubishi no longer exists as a car company.
@@michaelharrison1093 they’re still around making 5 and 1/2 cars with a 1.9% apr for 36 months
5½ cars, @@ps1hagrid823 ?
What price do they charge for a half car? It would need to be heavily discounted - which might explain the company's teetering prospects for much of the last decade.
Or, are you talking about 5½ cars _per day_ ?
Per week? Per hour?
Or did you mean the half car just a Triton cab-chassis?
😜
@@AsinineComment I meant 5 1/2 models because they have 4 actual cars that they managed to stretch into 6 different models
Jason needs an animated short diary of his adventures and misadventures with cars he's been around with his friends.
I second this! We need someone to animate Camisa
One of the reasons Jaguar's interiors were so amazing and RR / Bentley level is because they used to use Connolly Brothers Leather, which was the leather supplier for RR / Bentley, as well as the seats in the House of Parliament (as well as Ferrari, amongst others).
My 2002 X-Type has Connolly leather!🤦🏼♀️
Very cool i always loved the leather in late 90s early 2000s Britsh Sports sedans and sports cars. As soon as you see it you know it’s British
Loved seeing Jason's completely apathetic cameo in Car Trek. Literally couldn't care less 😂
To have Jason and James from TH featured in your show and not give them a fucking peep of dialogue or camera time is criminal. Car Trek is best when the personalities on it can shine - the more contrived and scripted sections suck eggs.
Jason and James seemed very out of place in that group
It's as scripted as an head of state's tweets. It's so entertainingly boring
@@pradhyudh well said - it's brain mush with some cool cars as the backdrop.
@@tylerbecker3348 i didn't feel what they portray themselves in the show is who they are in their UA-cam videos .
That was an advantage for original top gear when we didn't know who they are in real life.
Please do a SAAB episode. Regular Car Reviews did a hardcore deep dive and I'm sure 3 of us have been waiting for you to argue and banter and cyber-bully Paulo with some sort of SAAB episode since then.
I sell Jaguars, and oof, this is so very true. The LR part gets all the attention, while Jaguar is endangered. But the less attention we get from JLR, the more endangered! The I-Pace is such a wonderful Jaguar, completely normal luxury and handling, just oddly quiet, and that's certainly a wagon instead of SUV.
Anecdotally, I've noticed that the customers who have the most reliable Jaguars (usually in service for regular maintenance) are those who drive high miles and treat their Jags like sports cars.
I can confirm this, 195k miles on my 01 xjr :)
yep, i find that they do better daily driven than not, it’s sorcery, my 99 xk8 drove a year without any issues daily multiple times a day through some of the worst traffic in america (jacksonville), zero issues apart from alternator, sat for a month or two and everything went wrong, bore washing, coolant gone, strange smoking, limp home mode. hope to fix it soon and get transmission rebuilt or serviced
Very harsh review of the F-Type.🤦🏼♀️ The interior is better than any Porsche and the performance exceeds the Porsche of the same price. The ergonomics are perfect in the F-Type. I guess this video was for UA-cam views. My 3.0 2002 X-Type MANUAL is the best sports sedan ever made!
Oddly, they totally failed to mention that Jaguar is going totally electric in 2025 and will put Tesla out of business (their plan). No more luxury or sportiness-just utilitarian.☮️
I agree with a lot of these points, but judging from some of the misinformation in this episode it really seems like you guys haven't had much experience in recent Jaguar models. F-Type is down to a V6 Jason? Since when? They ditched the v6 and only sell the bonkers supercharged v8. And Derek admitted to not having driven a Jag since 2004, so how valid is his take? Also, the XF interior is pretty much IDENTICAL to modern Land Rover Interiors, albeit with a little bit more plastic. Likening it to Daewoo is flat out dishonest hyperbole...
Thanks for this, saved me wasting an hour.
@@LoudModeOn the interior reminds me of a grand Cherokee
Are you simping for a car company right now on practically a comedic car show
Me: Yay! New Carmudgeon episode!
Also me: Noooo! Jaguar can't die until I order enough spare parts to rebuild my XJL when its engine inevitably explodes!
Side note: it is, actually, a damn good car. And fast as hell with the supercharged 5L V8.
LS or 2UR swap that
Inb4 either Stellantis buys them or the Chinese use the badge to sell an EV What they are doing with MG
Or makes a bad copy and gets past trademark lawsuits again... ie: The BMW X5 that isn't an X5 according to the Chinese Government
While I agree Jaguar lacks an identity and it’s interior need the LR updates, I completely disagree about the F Type. I sold my 991 Carrera and picked up a rear drive V8 R Ftype and couldn’t be happier. The 911 is too good, no personality. The F Type is drop dead gorgeous and personality for miles. Also has twice the HP as a base 911. I grin from ear to ear every time I hit the accelerator. Best rear end.
In case no one completed the Lynn quote, "Lynn, Lynn. City of sin. You won't come out, the way you came in." The town is not scary today.
jaguar brand is lost like breitling is in the watch world. couple gems but most are shitters nobody wants.
Not that much into watches but I had no idea Breitling was not that well regarded
@@Charlie-Charlot terrible job managing their brand. their watches are gaudy and oversized playing to a market that shifted away from that 10+ years ago. porsche equivalent would be rolex at this point. mass produced but very high quality product, incredible engineering, iterative design of classics, great margins, great job limiting supply to create scarcity and high demand
The F-Type (especially the R) is not competition for a Cayman/ Boxster, what it is really is a Hellcat that can read and does yoga.
Also on the V6 being the V8 with two cylinders removed means that the manual which was only available on the V6 will bolt directly to the V8 with no modifications. I don't know if anyone has done it yet, but it's something I'm considering as a future project.
Godspeed, sir. You are doing the lords work
Did ftype also comes with manuel
A friend has an F-Type and loves it, he says it’s the perfect car for Texas. After driving it I agree. It’s a great GT, not at all sports car.
Sportbrake owner here and love it. Dynamically great, agree with shit interior, but roofline makes up for it. Sucks having to look at melty cough drop f paces, but the Sportbrake looks and feels different enough for me to stay atop my anti suv high horse.
It's Jag.. wait 3 minutes and someone will buy it... oh wait, it's owned by Tata with Land Rover with a left over taste of Ford. Jag is a more talked about brand than TVR, but has the same track record. "The Jaguar Land Rover subsidiary was struggling by 2019 and Tata Motors wrote down its investment in JLR by $3.9 billion. Much of the financial problem was due to a 50% drop in sales in China during 2019" Correction, It's another Buick... where the existence said brand is dictated by China's sales (Hence why Pontiac went poof in favor of Buick)
Regarding the XF it should be said that Jaguar also stopped offering it with compelling engines. They have killed off the 3L Diesel and since it's not getting the inline-6 from the F-Pace, that means we're just left with a bunch of 4 cylinders
I’m sure Kanye would love an SS
I’m a loyal listener, love y’all and the show, but after 75 episodes the ‘not knowing how to do an intro’ bit is really tired. jason you’re a professional speaker please just do a good regular intro 🙏🏻🙏🏻
In your discussion of wanting a wagon like vehicle or for SUVs to become more sleek and longer you forgot to discuss that Jaguar already sort of makes this - the IPace. The car no one remembers even while it is still in production. I would love to hear your opinions on the IPace as it is actually a fantastic car overall that was so poorly marketed it could only be a flop. Fast? Check, Gorgeous? Check. Range Rover adjustable height suspension? Check. Luxury Interior? Check. Reliability issue? Mostly sorted... I have nearly 40k miles on mine currently and have no idea what to replace it with.
I own two v8 jags (f-type R and XFR) and I agree entirely… jag is left for dead. The product line is not competitive and vastly over priced.
What a bunch of bullcrap this is a witch Hunt and ill-informed I have a 2014 f type it's been an extremely reliable car fantastic to drive and get a lot of looks I love the thing their SUVs are quite nice to this is all perception lag and and a myth that gets perpetuated.
Here to see Paolo do his thing while laughing
Paolo* ;)
😬 Eeeeeeewww..!!
Jgauar for the most part has not been special for awhile at least Maserati can borrow a Ferrari V8 and make a underrated banger from time to time what does Jag have a 2nd or 3rd rate luxury brand and some dried up glory for the 50s and 60s and now the F-type
Straught six RWD mazda 6? If you can get a manual that would be perfection
First comment! You guys are awesome. Thank you for doing what you do ❤
I was today years old when I learned why the v6 in my ftype looks so far forward lol learn something new every day 😂
Now you can tell people, " Technically its a v8 🧐 "
As I'm currently on my second Jaguar (an F Type here in the US after previously having an XE in the UK) I can't disagree with most of what you are saying. I will say one thing about the F Type versus the XK and this is circumstantial based only on my own experiences but the F Type probably has a much lower average age of buyer than the XK did (I'm guessing the average age is somewhere between 35-50 instead of the 50-70 of the XK). Personally I think Jaguar should become more of a niche brand rather than trying to directly face off against BMW/Audi/Mercedes with the LR of JLR providing the volume.
I've had 2 X150 XKRs and a Ferrari, and you're right about the average age. But I'm only 36, and I love everything about the XKR. I especially love that they're more rare than F-Types - production numbers over the 9 year run is a good deal lower than the ~7 year run so far of the F-Type. There's just nothing else like them. I'd like to get an F-Type R in the future at some point but I see it as such a different car that I don't consider it an upgrade or successor.
Speaking as a Brit and a Jaguar owner (a proper Jaguar, not a Hyundai Lookalike). The reason Jaguar is failing is that they deliberately went away from their design heritage. If you produce cars that look like Hyundais then you cannot charge premium prices for them. Simple. Even the top of the range XJ looked like an old Ford Granada from late 80's early 90's. So if they themselves don't give a damn why should we?
Agreed. Jaguar made uniquely beautiful cars through the 1960s, but the recent XF and XE look generic. And Jason and Derek are correct - Land Rover has an enviable reputation in the SUV segment. No reason for Jaguar to build them. There are wait lists for Porsche 911s, Ferrari sports cars. There is a market!
Neighbor down the street bought 2 Jag SUVs earlier this year. Don't know why, but she just had one flatbedded to the shop. Old legacy coming true - buy 2 so you have one to drive while other one is in the shop.
In addition to the handbrake test of the Mitsubishi Mirage, I was hoping y'all would do a Pontiac Endurance test of it on Willow.
Do what I've done I keep my F Type purely to admire in the garage and have the Lexus and Honda standby for when i need a car. Seriously this video reaks ofa witch hunt . If you go out looking for something, you're gonna find something.
I think you guys did the F-Type very dirty by saying it doesn't "drive like it looks", and then giving a 718 Boxster as an example. I thought the 911 comparison that everyone has made since it was launched was misguided, but comparing it to a Boxster is so much more illogical it almost sounds like you're intentionally trying to make the F-Type look bad in all cases. It really does not look like a Boxster or 911 competitor whatsoever. Jaguar was never trying to make the F-Type a back-to-basics sports car. Think of it as a Lexus LC500/BMW M850i competitor and it makes total sense, which it looks very similar to.
Stop trying to make Genesis happen. It’s not going to happen. There is no “desirability” there’s just “oh this is a cheap version of what I actually want.” Also I love the “well when you build 100k cars…” has Genesis made 100k cars yet? They sell like 100 G90s per month. They’ll hit 100k of those in, carry the one…83 years at this rate.
I think you’re being too harsh on Jaguar (particularly the F Type). I’ve driven many fast cars over my lifetime including the the v6 and v8 f types. Porsche’s certainly are more dialed in and planted than an f type but almost to there detriment. Porsche’s have become so capable that they seen sanitized (meaning they are not fun to drive unless you get them to there limit which requires very high speeds. Basically they’re only fun on the track. F types and cars like the f type are way more fun at lower speeds.
Jaguar is at its best when it's making muscle cars for high-society bankers.
More like high society bank robers/oil painting "collectors".
Holy he'll Hyphen is 40 ?????
Looking good.
Thought he was closer to 350
Kind o f a worn out subject, since the British podcasts have been wondering the same thing: in a sea of SUVs and 2 seaters a fringe market, what happens now? Would hate to see them go, but once everything is EV, the only difference between cars will be a badge.
The interior on my F-Type is tolerable, but the interior on my F-Pace is stunning, way better than the mercedes or BMW equivalent.
From the comments I'm guessing neither presenter has been near a modern Jag any time in the last couple of years? Comparing the interior with Daewoo is laughable and tells me you haven't really got a clue of what you are talking about.
I wouldn’t mind an XE, wasn’t it Jason himself that said it drove really well and looked nice? You rarely see them but it’s a good looking car
I have one and it is really great to drive, specially when taking corners. Mind you, start is slow, but I am not longer into being the first out of the green light. I love my XE.
Try an XJR Vs an S class. As a driver.
I drove an F-Pace jag. I have to say it's one of the best handling SUV's I have ever driven. It's sublime chassis. One can look past the interior
I drive a 2018 F Type R. It literally makes me happy everyday when I get into it. It is not a 911 T. I have driven a lot of 911 and the F Type is more fun and less good on the track. lol
The F-type is so wonderful - so this is sort of sad. Agree, they should have left SUV's to LR... They should just do an F type and perhaps an F-type shooting brake and call it a day. Then do an EV that is like a panamera granturismo.
Project 8 is simply amazing. Still holds the sedan record at the RING. I own a lot of cars, Porsches, Ferraris, many BMW Ms. My project 8 is in the top 3 for me.
Everyone i know of or ive met who own a P8 has nothing but amazing things to say about it. Jaguar gets hate for no current reason. Its just their old ford owned line up and no one is liking at how good the new ones are. Jag need to get back into F1.
The current lineup XE, F-Pace etc. have had a major interior overhaul on the same level as LR interior. Was super impressed, bit late also since the ext looks almost the same
jaguar has been dead for a while
What will TATA do for a Luxury halo brand?? 😯
A bit of history on Jaguar's early development of disc brakes on the C-type: ua-cam.com/video/OVnyRa79EA0/v-deo.html
And for the record, Jaguar's reputation for reliability was pretty dodgy well before the late XJ6. At age 70, my grandfather bought a 1963 XK-E (!). That car couldn't go by the dealership without needing to turn if for repairs. It epitomized the many jokes about Lucas electronics. My mom had to drive it once when dad was in a nearby hospital for a power saw accident. She was doing 100 and said trim bits were flying off the car - but it would do 100! But, damn, the E-type was just sex on wheels - in the class of the 250 GTO for pure looks.
Oh, this is one of the episodes from the Q&A, didn't expect it so soon
Heartily endorsing the wagon ethic, here!
I've always thought the compromises were the fewest, and the advantages the greatest over sedans and SUVs. It's _especially_ so over SUVs, and *triple especially* over 2WD SUVs. 😫
Have owned 3 wagons in my 8 cars, over 35 yrs. 🙂
Interesting podcast, very much enjoyed it.
I cannot argue the points the two raised regarding
a) reliability - fondest memory of the XJS was up on the hoist at the Jag dealer, we seemed to share ownership 60/40 (dealer biased)
b) interiour - before the interiour of the 80/90's cosseted you, now with the F type, it urges you out of the car
c) build quality - significantly better in the last 5 years than when I had the XJ series 3 and XJS
All that said, fab to drive, when it did.
Thanks for the rundown memory lane, now back to the garage to fix the wiring harness on the V12.
Hey Guys, for your next round of Q&A, would you discuss your thoughts on all the subscription based features that seem to be imminent on a lot of vehicles in the future. To me, it feels like a kick in the teeth that we would have to pay monthly to use an audio system that is already built into a vehicle as a standard feature. What's next... you have to pay monthly to activate your ability to roll down your electric windows? Thanks!
Got an FT-SVR, absolutely in love. I don't even put the stereo on. Open valves and sport mode. The car makes me smile. Got the extra warranty for some piece of mind. Hoping for the best
Unfortunately, I just don't see a future for Jaguar in the US market. There are a plethora (arguably a surplus) of other luxury brands, and Jaguar is stuck in a trap of low volume, questionable reliability, and an old man's car reputation. It might be able to survive globally with a two-car lineup (a new XJ - if they can ever bring it to market - and a sports car) as a complement to LR, but I doubt Jag will ever have enough volume to justify redeveloping the XE, XF, E-Pace, F-Pace, or i-Pace.
For LeMans Porsche 19, Audi 13; Ferrari 9; Jaguar 7; Bentley 6 - As owner of 2 Jags (04 XJ; 69 E) I agree. In the 70s and 80's they were the cash cow for British Leyland. All the money they made was sunk into the rest of BL line. The rest of the line was a money pit of labor unrest. During the 70s the money taken to support MG Triumph Austin should have been spent on new engines, throwing out the long stroke tax dodging design for a more modern short stroke design. I was hopeful that the electric XJ would be a winner. Then the CEO decided sedans were dead and cancelled the car after the design was finished. Sedans do seem dead but in the electric space I think they can more be than competitive. The lower frontal area of a sedans will allow a longer range than SUVs providing a compelling reason to for sedans. Now that the CEO has been canned lets see if they can pull out of the dive they are in.
This is what happens when the comment is written before I've completed the video. (Jason's comments on aerodynamics of electric vehicles).
My dad called Jags the British Buicks. He worked at a shop that got a reputation for fixing them. He hated Jags.
Jag needs to produce that CX75 that was in Spectre. Not as an EV but with a gas V8 in it. Problem solved. You're welcome
min 38-39. (they are talking about the 8 cylinder 6 piston.) What Jag-you-are should have done was make a 2 c. 2 p. Engine that could plug/ fit into the backside of another 2c2p engine in the first place instead.
Can any auto make/engine maker make this a reality, in physical form?
Oh man, hyphen's face at the Mazda straight 6 and then pouty face at the camera van v6. Great episode as always guys.
You guys definitely need to do a show about the wagon issue. I have encountered this several times with car shopping and always end up in the sedan counterpart.
Also, where is the show about the Pontiac Sunfire...the greatest car ever built?
F pace does really well actually. It's been Jaguar's best selling vehicle since launch. As for the reliability, most of the people complaining about them have never actually owned the vehicle. It's all just hear-say...fake news.
I am 44 and love the classic XJ’s, and own two X300’s, one XJR and one Daimler Six LWB and love them. Have owned a XJ40 and a X308 as well. They are great to drive, and many of the issues people experience seems to be lack of servicing, even if they have their weak points (as most cars do). And just so you two doesn’t think I am utterly mad I also own a S124, two C124’s and a C126. That I also absolutely love!
I think bland design and very bland interiors is the problem. Went from the sleekest designs to boxes. And good point, LR have great interiors. So why not Jaguar’s?
I used to work at Jag. In US focus groups, when you asked about Jagwarrr, people would either lean forward an exclaim "beautiful cars!" and then lean back and cross their arms and say "but man they're unreliable". Or the opposite reaction, unreliability mentioned first and then something positive about styling. It was kind of irrational though at times, one guy had two S-TYPEs on lease one after the other with zero problems, but wouldn't consider an XK because of "reliability". I always maintained that the supercharged saloons (sorry, sedans) were the best Jags... trying to sell front-engined GT cars as sports cars was like pushing water uphill against Porsche... trying to sell 'normal' Jags against BMW et al, ditto. It was only the supercharged sedans that had the true expression of Jaguar duality... luxurious and wafty on one hand, taught, powerful and dynamic (when you were in the mood) on the other. The last XJ in 5.0 s/c Supersport form, not XJR, is what sits on my driveway. And yes, it's currently broken 🤣
Down to a supercharged V6? Isn't the only engine this year in the F type the V8 available as RWD or AWD?
The shooting of Tupac Shakur that lead to his death happened while he was sitting in a 1996 BMW 750iL complete with a naturally aspirated V12. That exact same car is currently for sale for $1,750,000 on Hemmings, complete with the bullet holes that were never fixed…. I’m surprised a wealthy rapper hasn’t bought it yet as a display piece… figured I’d mention it since you brought up the car on the podcast 😉👍🏼
Jaguar should do this to be successful 1>Hire Japanese to learn how to make a car reliable. 2>Follow the porsche / BMW model line up (start with ones that sell the most) . Create a rival to the 911 / M3 with both power & luxury unlike the F type more like an XK. Create a good 5 series / 3 series rival. How hard can it be ? You are owned by one of the largest corporations in the world 'TATA' & yes most importantly stop screwing your customers or one day you shall get screwed too.
I feel like I did, and still see, more XJ350 than XJ351. Perhaps had they continued the design thesis of the XJ350 into 351 it would have done even worse, but I think they were trying to “fix” a problem that didn’t exist with the XJ, pandering to journalist that always had to make a joke about the monarchy or the dying British Empire or something equally silly. As beautiful as the 351 was, I just don’t think it distinguished itself enough from the S class or 7 series to justify taking the leap, pun intended. The 350 was a statement, the 351 less so.
The XF and a future crossover were enough to modernize the lineup if buyers wanted it, but they should’ve left the XJ thesis intact. Too bad Jaguar couldn’t pivot and downsize to just focus on building sports and sedans.
I don’t have a problem with 120 degree V6’s or the Alfa Romeo Busso V6…. But past that, I agree, Inline 6 is just far superior power delivery. Packaging can be an issue, but that’s why you build the car around the engine when it’s planned
As you said, the Jags that built the legacy offered cutting edge capabilities and technology for less than competitors. Today, that would probably be an EV more range and performance than Tesla, and a better chassis and interior, for about 80% of the price.
To their credit, they tried with the i-pace, but didn't really beat Tesla.
I bought a new Mercedes E350, and didn't even go to a Jaguar dealer as all I hear is terrible repairs, and the ones I saw looked unimpressive inside. I loved Jaguar as a kid, these days now that I'm able to buy such a car I just don't see an appeal. I feel I just so much more from Mercedes.
Most of these cars that you called SUV are crossovers. All these stupid Polestarses, Velars, ID4s, F***Pace are crossovers. That explains why they're lower and smaller than SUVs. They're not wagons in any way, shape or form.
Dude, you keep complaining about V6s vibrations and saying that inline-6 is the way to go because it's so smooth -- and yet you yourself have said that you want vibrations in a sports car. Hyundai N are talking about adding vibrations to electric N cars. For people who are into old unfiltered car experience, you seem to have horribly contradicting views.
As a side-note, BMW naturally aspirated inline sixes sound like bigger four-bangers to me -- nothing interesting.
I believe Mazda spiked any future (mid-sized) sedans favoring (drumroll) SUV's. But hey, at least the i6 lives on. Maybe Toyota will borrow it.
I love the XJL - when that car flew by you on the freeway, you noticed. Sleek and long and low, looking very expensive.
Another inline six is the Stellantis "Hurricane" I6 in the Grand Wagoneer - rumor is it will make it to the Ram 1500 and possibly the Wrangler, Gladiator, and Grand Cherokee.
XE and XK are capable of competing with BMW and AUDI however they are not German, 4dr saloons in your case sedans are losing way to raised platform vehicles SUV and its parent won`t allow it to build anything close to a Landrover as it may canabalise sales a lot of money has been spent unfortunately it hasn`t worked , the French ceo Bollore has just quit the former ceo was german he was responsible for the XE to survive it needs to be free of Landrover but i would freely admit its over
Ok. The title is an alliterative stroke of genius.
Che drammatico, but clever.
The nice kitty is just resting between pounces. I advise historical worship and pazienza, per favore.
I’ve wanted an F-type since it came out. Haven’t had the money to buy new so I wouldn’t be able to support them. Also would question at the price point whether I should’ve bought a corvette.
Chinese should buy jaguar and create a jaguar ev and call it a day. Beautiful brand that really never had the reliability americans demand. Id love to own a jaguar but dont have the room for a car needing frequent service and one that is expensive to bring in to repair.
A
Ways tempted for the f type v8 or the large xjR yet couldnt pull the trigger because of reliability rumors. For the most part the residuals blow so the lease deals were not competitive with other luxury sedans.
The land rovers are horrible with reliability issues and idiot trips to the dealerships according to friends and relatives...the last was the velar that was so hated for its horrible issues.
Jaguar isnt much better.
I woulda loved to see a comparison with Aston Martin with jag since they started off as rivals then split in direction in the late 80’s and sadly both kinda seem like they are heading for the same fate. Sounds like Stroll is taking Aston over the cliff at this point aswell as the whole lack of identity. The only identity they had left was Bond and now they barley use Aston and when they do it’s the DB5.
JLR are total garbage, still to this day. They are not reliable and JLR does not care about helping the dealerships. I worked there for 3 months as a mechanic and left after 3 months because they are GARBAGE. Just check out what happened to the guys at The Fast Lane Car (TFL) when they bought their Defender 2 years ago. It was a nightmare. Good video. You guys are great.
You left because you are incompetent to work at high pace, litteraly the worst kind if people
@@Ze_Hans Hahahahaha, your face. If by "high pace" you mean "workflow managed like crap", you are correct.
Just got done listening to The Intercooler episode on the same topic. Love Jag but could never buy one due to reliability concerns. Sad to say, it's destined to join MG as a marque to class-up future generic white-box Chinese EVs
My 98 XJR has been surprisingly trouble-free. The new models look so bland and boring.
The genesis dealer experience is horiffic like the kia and hyundai screw consumer modes..
My ex bought a new hyundai and had three engines in it before 6000 miles and they were rude and nasty on top of the waiting 2 weeks to ever work on her car when it was towed in.
She drives a new honda now and has no problems.
So genesis is just a poor joke against car buyers. The dealer experience sucks.. thats part of why people buy higher end cars.
Test drove a used xf sportbrake. Loved the sound system. Was too quiet (wanted a little more excitement) and the center console was miserable
Nothing good comes from a car company that has a 'chief creative officer' with a perm and a scarf, who calls himself 'professor' and has an OBE.
Jaguar, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Citroen and even Lamborghini are dead brands in my mind. Mini as well.
It was interesting that the US-spec 1971 Renault R10 I had in high school had standard 4 wheel disc brakes, but the 69 Dodge Dart I got next had 4 wheel manual drum brakes.
I think the only FWD X-Type were the 2 liter V6 and the diesel. The 2.5 and 3.0 were all AWD
Re Hyundai, my favorite quote of late is: "Looking for car problems on the internet is like looking for sick people in a hospital". With that said, a friend of mine is getting an engine replaced under warranty on her Elantra.

I owned a 2015 F-Type R (RWD). The RWD car was a lot of fun, but it reminds me of early-post Mercedes AMG. I had a lot of fun owning it (and rallying it) but 2 years was enough. It was broken 4 months out of 2 years.
You rallied a F Type R??? What a mad man! Also wow, 4/24 months it was broken. That's really bad for s modern car. What do you drive now?
The MSRP was $31,100 for the 1984 XJ6, which comes to about $90,435 in 2022 dollars.

Building crap to save money only leads to no one buying the product, it's amazing how idiots say "this time will be different". Jaguar could save itself by building quality cars... and GREAT marketing! Start by returning the F-Type to the previous front-end style while adding modern styling cues, then spend the money on a completely new interior design that looks clean and retro but is world-class. People will spend $100+K on a sports car all day long as long as the exterior looks cool and the interior quality is on point. Next, Jaguar needs to ditch the 4-cyl turbo engine in the sedan and also update the interior to look classic Jaguar with high-end materials everywhere!

I don’t think the problem with Jag is themselves but their competition. As a company who competes with BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche you have to have the R&D budget to play. I think the F-Type is the only Jag that enthusiasts really love now.

Three minutes into the vlog and I gave up. Will they ever get to the point? Will they ever get to the topic? Will they ever get over themselves? Will they ( 5 minutes now) ever realise that they are just talking garbage (6 minutes now). Always best to study the topic in question and load yourself with facts to present the vlog. Inane, vacuous and ( 8 minutes now) I just have to give up.
By the way Land Rover Jaguar are amongst the most unreliable cars on the road............
