When Dave Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990, Paul McCartney was 48 years old. Dave Grohl in this video is 53. It's amazing to see that these two have formed such a friendship, and I can only imagine how valuable a friend like Paul would be when you're mourning the loss of a bandmate and a brother.
i see a tiny bit of sadness in Grohl's eyes too but we all understand why the sadness is there. I admire him for getting on a stage at a difficult time like this.
If anyone doesn't think they were best friends, John said in an interview in the early 70's that Paul was his best friend aside from Yoko ("best male friend") but they didn't see each other anymore. So Paul kind of lost him twice. Started getting their friendship back together in the late 70's and 1980, and then lost him permanently.
You know what? I didn't even read your comment and I got ON the comments section just to say that I SOOO f'ng love that Paul did this and got Dave up there. God, Dave, don't give it up. Taylor would have been devastated if you hung it all up after March 25th. He KNOWS this!

Watching Paul it was clear this performance was designed to do nothing more than try to give Dave a little joy. Paul directed all energies at Dave and he tried a couple times with his unique nonverbal communication skills to help Dave realize that this cal still be fun, and asked the fans to send him that energy as well. I think I detected that Dave was choked up a couple times when he stopped back into the shadows. Paul is just a gift to us all, isn't he? Have you even seen him being anything but honest and kind to people? Hang in there, Dave, It really does get better every day.

Estoy de acuerdo; pienso que Dave iba a volver al escenario por primera vez para homenajear a su gran amigo y hermano Taylor Hawkins; pero a ésta invitación de Sir. Paul, no se podía negar. ¡Inmensos ambos! ⭐
It was great to see Dave back on the stage playing again. It is going to take time for him and the rest of the band. Thank you Paul for helping Dave. What a kind thing to do for a friend.

When Grohl stepped on stage, my heart flipped, and I cried. I was just SO FUCKING HAPPY to see that Dave was OK, following the sadness of Taylor. And I absolutely appreciate Macca being a mentor through such a turbulent time in Dave’s life. A good reminder to have solid friends in your life who will guide you through the toughest of times.

I watched the whole show and it was truly brilliant - Paul McCartney is a living legend - You know you're very special when Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen turn up to jam with you on stage

The energy Paul is still able to put out is amazing. My son and I saw him recently in Knoxville, 36 songs and 2 and half hours later, he was still going strong!
Last set I saw him play end of Dec 2018 was 3 hrs 15 mins, nit even a coffee break! He is incredible! The Beatles usd to often drive past our home in London, didn't even think almost 60 years later Paul would have become the legend he is!
A tear and a smile come as I realize this man has been on my soundtrack for over 50 years. Thank you, Paul, from the deepest part of my heart and soul.
I can't even imagine how difficult it is for Dave to be performing without his partner in crime. My hat is off to him and for Paul helping him heal, and to get back on the horse and ride again as I'm sure Taylor would want him to. Very touching performance. I hope Dave continues his journey in healing!
Dude, don’t try and play amateur psychologist. Dave was probably just trying not to freak out as he is playing Band on the Run with Paul McCartney at Glastonbury Festival
I couldn't click on this fast enough, I'll speak for millions of us, we all need to see Dave on stage healing and continuing the journey, Taylor would've wanted that and I pray the rest of the guys are going to continue the Foo Fighters when they're ready✌️💙

Seeing Dave back on stage is amazing and probably somewhat healing for him. Seeing Macca still going out there and not phoning it in but playing the bass and singing his heart out for 2+ hours at 80 years old…🥺
What a living legend this guy is, and what a true survivor. The Beatles literally changed the face of music in the sixties and created the new sound that directly or indirectly inspired most of the bands of today. It’s been a journey of extreme highs and lows, from the top of the music scene down to losing Linda, John and George, escaping the clutches of a vampire, and yet somehow he rises above it all, and here he a 80 is still doing what he’s always done best. So the voice may not be quite what it used to be, but when it’s Paul McCartney up there performing the soundtrack of our lives, who cares about that!
His slightly faltering voice is better than almost any newer artist today. And he still go effortlessly into the best screaming of any vocalist this side of Little Richard.

100% I know they are mates generally, but I'm so sure that this is why Paul invited Dave to play this set! It's a lovely thing to do. And I'm pretty sure that Paul will show up at the Hawkins memorial concert also!
An amazing collaboration for a phenomenal song. Two brilliant moments for me. First is at 4.21 when Paul pointed to Dave saying the 'town were searching for you everywhere' which I believe was Paul showing his respect to Dave who was fully engrossed in the moment to notice it. And then that eye contact between them both at 4.42 with Dave nodding his head was, just, in my humble opinion, the two acknowledging their regard for each other. Fantastic.
Whatever forces were at work to help Dave feel this would be the safest, most loving space to be out on a stage singing rock and roll again, god bless. This did so many hearts good. Paul 4 Ever.

@@Vinicius-ev5ym Sim. Dave é apaixonado pelo Paul McCartney, e não teve como não aceitar o convite do eterno Beatle. Dave tá muito triste... Adoro os dois. São heróis.
We're all here for you Dave, us the fans. It's such a great gesture from Paul inviting him up to play. What a difficult time must be for all in FF.
Is it weird that I teared up a little watching this.... Welcome back Dave, it's been a tough year. Class act Paul, inviting Dave to play. I've had a hard time listening to any FooFighters songs as soon as Taylor's drumming kicks in. He was such an amazing drummer. I can't even begin to wonder how the band mates and friends feel. Sending love & support from Buffalo!
Hello, it's nice meeting you here today.
Thank you so much ❤️
It's just a great blessing to have your hero cheering you up after a tragedy ... Paul is being a great dad (and friend) to Grohl. These guys are amazing human beings. Respect.
The GOAT. Name a more iconic songwriter who has written THAT many life changing songs?! You cant! Macca is cut from a different cloth.
Macca is THE most successful songwriter of all time and my personal favorite 😎
Easy. John Lennon. Keep in mind he’s had 40 years less than Paul to write the classics he would’ve written in all those decades 🤦🏽♂️ Bob Dylan is also in the same tier
@@hw343434 I'm the biggest Beatles and Lennon fan that there is but even I disagree. Paul was the genius of the Beatles. Imagine is one of the greatest songs if not the greatest song ever written but Macca is a cut above. Wings and his solo stuff was incredible.
I adore Dylan too and my God what a back catalogue but he wasn't an all rounder like Macca and he never wrote Penny Lane or Eleanor Rigby. Haha
@@thedappercook Paul was the genius of the Beatles?! 🤣 MAYBE as much a genius as John giving him the benefit of the doubt. Anybody who says that baseless statement is not a Beatles fan, period. They were all 4 geniuses and even George Martin and Geoff Emerick were brilliant. Paul was a small percentage of the whole genius that was the Beatles and that’s why his solo career is a major drop off from the Beatles. if you think Wings and Pauls solo material is incredible then i guess that’s another story. To each his own. But none of Paul’s solo albums (or Wings) are featured in most top 500 albums ever lists of any music publications. And certainly nowhere near John’s top 2 solo albums “Plastic Ono Band” and “Imagine”. Or George’s debut for that matter. This is not my opinion, just what music sites and publications across the board agree on. In the end, music is subjective and I personally think “Band on the Run” album deserves a spot there and perhaps even Ram, but neither of those albums have the influence of John’s “Plastic Ono Band” and “Imagine” albums
@@hw343434 ohhh brother. You're talking to a Beatles historian bro, I know all their is to know and I can tell you that all the most memorable bits of Lennon/Macca songs are all maccas best bits. None the less he is the GOAT and will remain that way. Once you've written Penny Lane, The Long and Winding Road, Yesterday (the most played and covered song in music history), and the many many other great songs he wrote as a solo artist and Wings it's game over. And like I said I'm a Lennon obsessive and own every solo album, book, memorabilia there is. They have made up the core of my life, they're my everything.
I wish I could bottle the sheer concentration of talent on that stage. It's mindblowing the genius on show here.
Lol
Dave Grohl is not a genius FFS.
@@KevinSmith-wp9qs indeed.
You seriously need to get out more!🤣
@Amanda
The definition of a genius is something truly exceptional creatively, which of course the great Sir Paul McCartney is. Musically, think Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bowie. All geniuses.
Dave Grohl might well be legendary (mainly due to the fact he was the drummer in Nirvana) but he is definitely not exceptional. And most definitely not a genius.
Paul McCartney's been such an uplift for so many years at our darkest times he makes an appearance and lifts us up
Yes 😭♥️
crazy, two of the biggest musicians, one from the biggest band, and one from one of the biggest bands
At 80 he's voice is still gold. I"m definitly amazed.
Why should he? He has no reason to
